Hi, my camera seems to have a problem..when i press the menu button, it only show 4 option at the top, not like yours like in the video..can you tell me how to fix it? @@DavidHancock
@@ViviLista It's been some years since I cols this camera, but check two things, 1- your camera mode (on the mode dial) as that can affect menu options and make sure it's in something like M or P. 2- There may be a setting in the available menu options for something like simple or expanded menu, make sure that the option which is not simple is selected.

Thank you and yes there is a cable release for this. For star trails you'll want long exposures, like 30 seconds, worth no gap between them. Then stack and blend them in post.
Just wanted to say, fantastic video. I'm not new to photography, having learned how to develop film in my grandmothers photo studio at the age of 5 in 1959. I have had lots of slr's and digital cameras but this is my first Dslr. I got it off a garage sale site for $40 (hope that's a good deal) because it had no charger and a dead battery so I had no way of verifying it works. Charger is on it's way from Amazon (fingers crossed it works) Great video, very informative. Thank you.

I wanted to use my 1994 EOS500 again, but it shows some problems. To start digital I bought an EOS 1000D in "very good" condition for 140.-, re-using the kit zoom which came with the EOS 500 to find out if taking "real" pictures (instead of iPhone) is somethimg for me. The three video helped a lot to understand what and how to use the 1000D

I have recently found myself trying to learn how to use an old canon eos rebel xs, and thanks to your videos I have been able to do so. However, all of a sudden, the auto focus feature stopped working, it makes a sound as if it’s trying to focus, but stops midway. Any idea what it might be and how i might be able to fix it? Once again, thank you for everything!!
Hmm. That could be something or nothing. Are you trying to use the AF indoors or outside? If indoors, there may simply not be enough light. If outside, try switching to manual focus and if you manually focus the camera can you achieve proper focus?

It might not be. Canon seems to have stopped hosting a lot of their old firmware. DO NOT download it from anyone other than Canon because dinner of the websites hosting the old firmware not hosted by companies like Canon and Sony anymore are actually just hosting malware.

My one and only camera is a Rebel XS that came with the 55 mm lens. I purchased this as a used item. I see it has Version 1.0.6 and I would like to get the latest being 1.0.7. I also appreciate night exposures with starlight and landscapes. A friend sold me his 14 mm f2.8, which I mated to this body. I have long-admired his night shots with this lens. I would like to thank you for your video tutorial for this camera. Your walk through I applied to the camera and will take some shots based on these settings. Could you please steer me in the direction where I could download version 1.0.7 for this camera body? The http link is no longer valid.

Do not download camera firmware from any source other than a manufacturer because that download will execute an extraction program on your computer and if you download that from who knows where then it's possible that who knows what has been added to it. Like any software, only use it if you can verify the authenticity of the source and supplier.

Something 18mm or wider. I think there is an EF lens in the 10-18mm range for a zoom that might work. For a budget option if you're okay with manual focus, the Samyang 10mm is a stunning lens (I have a review about that lens on this channel) and it would work well on this.
This does not. Many of the newer models do, however. There are so many DSLRs, and Rebel DSLRs that doe record video that the list would be too long to share here.
will this be a fun camera to use i already own a sony a7iii but i wouldn't mind having an extra one for fun or for my wife to use on our shoots. Will this be editable on photoshop with raw?
Maybe and yes. I find that using old cameras like these can be a bit limiting. The oldest DSLRs, like the Nikon D1, I love because they're more like film cameras. The generation after that had, as a general statement, illogical menus and features that hint at what cameras are like today, and so I instinctively want them to do more. The XS is on that tail end of that camera age range. Given that the Rebel T3 is usually not much more than these, I would look at the T3 over the XS personally because it has somewhat better capabilities.

I cannot, unfortunately. Firmware updates require software that I don't have and that I am under the impression may not operate on Windows 10.

@@skp54 I forget what version of Windows is needed. If you can get the CD it might run on 7.

I don't think that this camera has live view.
Live View works (when set on in the menue) by pressing the set butom. But only in P, Tv, Av, M mode. Some funktions are shut off. AF does not work

Canon menus are mostly unchaged on the newest cameras. This camera feels modernish for being that old.
Credit where credit is due, Canon has good menu arrangement. No need to fix what isn't broken.
