It's 2 months and 13 days. Still closer to 2 months than 3. ...yes. March 1st is 2 months after the start of the year. Month 3, but 2 months, because January is 1, not 0.
I still remember watching Attack on Titan pirated ON UA-cam in my bedroom closet as a middle schooler. This was the show which kicked it off for me. I am so happy I got to experience this decade of entertainment.
Raymond Lim Gigguk really hit the nail on its head, when AOT came out everyone I worked with switched from talking about GOT (during its off season) to asking if you’ve seen AOT. I was so amazed I’ll never forget it.
Anime has never been something that was commonly ridiculed where I'm from, thankfully. Back when Ghibli's movies came out and were in theaters, many people, young and old, went to watch them. At school, anime is often the conversation starter. Even if you've never watched anime, you'd at least have heard of a couple names from others. Naruto, One Piece, Fullmetal Alchemist, Dragon Ball, etc.
*FIVE YEARS FROM NOW* clicks on video titled "Remembering Gigguk" play that line "I'm definitely going to be there to watch it all the way" video maker then ends video by saying "Well I hope he can still watch it from his great big degenerate dumpster fire in the sky" : * (
I'm sorry but the image of a weeb bullying people at school is just too hilarious. A gang of scrawny guys in Miku shirts hassling an innocent beleaguered normal guy for lunch money or whatever. (Of course, bullying is bad kiddos, but the above comment is obviously made up for a joke. Please do not take it as condoning actual harassment.)
@@isnotmimi Now just think of it, when you are invited to a gang hideout and discovered a hell lot of figures, dakimakura, posters in the room alongside with meatcutting axes, shotgun, drug packaging and measurement tools, a lot of weed, and most important of all: Henshin.
No joke. I practically take this man's every word as gospel. He has gone beyond the call of duty for both good culture and degeneracy, and I respect him highly because of it.
@@zacharyromano4599 take it with a considerable grain of salt, but I've read somewhere that Kubo is writing an alternate ending for the anime adaptation.
Gigguk ranks Konosuba only A tier compared to other isekai in Joeys isekai video but in this video he says it’s S tier compared to all anime? HUH? I totally think it’s S tier tho.
Warning: This self deprecating kind of joke sort of works when you're talking to other weebs, but when the listener is a normal person it's just kind of pathetic
I remember when I was in high school and I was wearing my scouts uniform attack on titan shirt. I forgot what brought it up but my dad off handedly mentioned he knew it was from attack on titan and that he had watched some episodes and liked it. I always thought my parents would hate anime because I watched dragon ball and Yu-Gi-Oh among others but I was speechless my dad watched and liked an anime.
This. THIS is why ive been with you since middle school. The hole of wanting to express my thoughts and opinions on something to someone. Of what ive loved. You always have that voice and described everything ive ever felt. The love for anime and its many different aspects from the music the nostalgia and the fucking fandom amvs, etc! I m so fucking happy gigguk that I found your bleach review while looking for rolling star by YUI. It was the first fucking time in my life I felt not alone, someone who loves what I do someone who understands. I felt like being the only fan in my school was less weird and helped me get through my highschool days even if you only uploaded every 5 years. Thank you gigguk not only Anime helped me grow but you did too. You where a huge influence on me and the way I look at the medium. Thank you. THANK YOU.
I onestly think nobody could express better what i feel about anime and this passion than this comment, i realy thank you for putting to words something i couldnt express
I've only been subscribed to him for the last two or three years but anime on UA-cam is what helped me to not feel alone (aside from fanfiction as well). Once my family's days of dial-up internet had finally ended in 2007 (that's right!), I stumbled upon Little Kuriboh's abridged series when he only had about four or five episodes. To take anime, the thing I loved, and to parody it similarly to how I do in my stories as well...it was the emotional boost I didn't know I needed. Discovering more and more anime fans here has just been the cherries on top. I wish I could take this era of anime and tech and hit rewind on those lonely school years but I can't (and honestly, would I really want to redo high school even with the higher possibility of meeting other anime fans? Lol!) All of this is to say, I'm thankful to LK, Gigguk and all other anime fans and UA-camrs who have helped to shape and popularize our community :)
I always wonder how much thought he puts behind the scenes that run while he speaks? Like is it just his editor putting stuff behind it or is he deciding activly what anime/ scene he wants together with his script. Because some just feel like perfect fits ( I mean apart from the obvious ones like a Naruto clip when he talks about Naruto) 15:58 Violet Evergarden "anime would never get to this point" -> peak high quality animation by Kyoto Animation financed a huge company like netflix 16:03 a place further than the universe "my passion for this medium" -> an anime he has talked about in the past as one that changed his life 16:14 one piece "i´ll be there to watch it all the way" -> the dedication to watch over a thousand episodes of a single story or some things poping up again and again through out the video like Kurapika or HxH in general (the blode guy from Hunter X Hunter 1:46 , 7:46 , 15:30 , ) And also the perfect choice of music for every moment. Anyways Im looking forward to the next decade of Gigguk videos :)
Netflix? Netflix didnt do anything apart from purchasing streaming rights. Its the Beauty of the hardwork of the amazing people of Kyoto animation. Give the right people credit please.
Gigguk ranks Konosuba only A tier compared to other isekai in Joeys isekai video but in this video he says it’s S tier compared to all anime? HUH? I totally think it’s S tier tho.
Anime’s To-Do List for this Decade. 1. Find the Treasure of One Piece. 2. Get to The Dark Continent. 3. Make Sakura Useful (Optional). 4. Pump out more Isekai Shows. 5. Ishozoku Reviewers S2. (Not Optional) 6. More JoJo’s. 7. A lot more JoJo’s. 8. Attack on Titan S4!!!!! 9. Demon Slayer S2!!!!!!!!!!! 10. Berzerk?
I missed out on that one (and Battle of Gods) but I did get to see Resurrection F in theaters, as well as Your Name, A Silent Voice, The Night is Short Walk on Girl, and Digimon Adventure Tri Part 1. Gigguk's on point in that decades prior only Ghibli films and MAYBE a few select others would get theater showings outside of Japan, but getting to see these in the US in theaters was really fun.
killerz7770ag yeah it was the first time going to a place where there were other people dedicated to anime there was just one day for dragonball in my city and at first there were 2 screenings but they were booked in 2 days (we got a ticket) and they added and added screening so in the end there were 6 screening simultaniously and so many people and the movie was legendary too omg the animation later we went to bnha and op stampede too but i never thought that a anime movie would be kn theaters (in fcking japanese i even told my collegue who loved dragonball and some mainstream anime at the army (we need to do half a year in my country) and he couldnt believe the screenkng being japanese
I loved that. It was the same for when I saw My Hero Academia: Two Heroes. Everyone was screaming as All Might was busting his way to the villain and Deku being able to keep up with him. Then Heroes Rising came around, the whole audience stayed quiet due to how amazing the final battle was. Watching shounen anime movies in a theater can be a real breathtaking experience and I love it.
@Hidetaka Myazaki Don't you lie to me, god damn it. I know you directed AC4 and AC4A, which happen to be my favorite Armored Core games. Why do you think I want you directing Armored Core 6? Also, if Elden Ring doesn't have Soulsborne-style multiplayer, you'll be hearing from me. That's a promise.
11:57: That is always quite the experience. I recently had to go to court and was passing through security when I heard the security guards chatting. One was saying, "So which type would you like to control?" Another said, "Definitely psychic. If you control psychic, you control everything." It wasn't until someone brought up Machamp that I realized that security guards in a courthouse were having a discussion about favorite Pokemon types.
I guess what really hit me the hardest is... It's been 10 whole years. And just like growing up itself, we've grown past that awkward teenage years of self enclosed bubble of existing... Anime in of itself has too grown beyond that. So much so, it feels like it's an old classmate of ours that we still catch up on every day... but we both witnessed the growth of each other along the way. It's that kind of a feeling.
Well said 😢 and honestly I’m not sure I would have turned out as well as I did if it weren’t for all the lessons I learned from anime as a kid. Not only did we grow up together, but we directly helped each other grow. Anime taught me how to be a better person, and in turn I showed my friends all the shows and movies I loved. Even a flawed show like Naruto helped me out a lot as a kid. Especially the scene with Gaara and “a wound to the heart”. Or any of the many lessons to be learned from Studio Ghibli films. I’m just glad I waited until I was older to watch FMAB because holy shit that show would have ruined me as a kid xD
This just made me realize how long I've watched anime. Like, this makes me so happy to know where I started and where anime has gone. This is the evolution of anime that caused a revolution in society. (OG anime watchers walked so newcomers could run)
Its crazy how time flies, I realized while watching this video that I started watching right before the seasonal anime trend and got a taste of the old ways of searching for a new show to binge after school.
So glad you mentioned the things you did. MHA is a great series that really rode the superhero hype train that took over the 2010s and acted as a great gateway for so many people, I'd argue it's really broken into the mainstream; same goes for OPM, but obviously in a much more parodic way with a genuine, fun sense of humor anybody can get into. And anime films have improved tremendously in quality. For my 18th birthday I saw Weathering With You in the theaters with my (non anime-watching sister) and we loved it; we cried out eyes out. It was a wonderful experience, and we were still talking about it months later. It really showed me how far this industry has come, and I'm so proud.
Attack on Titan is a show that all my close friends/family watched when it came out and we'd eventually end up meeting up to watch the new ep together lol so it has a special place in my memory despite just being a genuinely great show edit: thanks for all the wholesomeness didn’t realise anyone saw this gotta love the anime community :) PS: S4 is really intense so far the show just keeps getting better
My father (51) watches some anime with me (24) and my brother (14), but my mother (45) never took it too seriously, except for Violet Evergarden (she freaking LOVED Violet Evergarden. Hell, all of us did!). So the three of us have been watching Attack on Titan on the weekends, since it's the only time I spend at home because of my job, and we've watched everything until S3 part 2 episode 6 (just before they finally find out about the secret on Eren's basement), so this last sunday we sat down to watch the final episodes and mom comes and sits with us, too, cause the internet was down and she couldn't mess around in facebook. We've always kept inviting her to watch it with us and talking about the show to her, but she kept turning it down, saying she simply doesn't enjoy "shows that are too much action-focused. Also cartoons." Oh well, alright, then. Long story short, she got REALLY invested on the show, has found the story to be superinteresting and is now looking forward to the rest of the story in season 4. Now I'm trying to convince her to watch the previous seasons with me, cause it's been a while since I watched S1 and I feel like I forgot some important bits of the story. But yeah, the hype is now strong with her, too! :D
@@danielbueno8474 Aww, I wish that was me :(( To be fair, I do have my brother and sister to talk about anime to, so I can't complain too much. I want to show my dad AoT, but I'm not totally sure he'd like it. He's not really into fantasy, but I'd really like to at least get him to watch the first episode to see how he reacts. The show has such a strong beginning that I think he'd be into it. Maybe I'll show him Erased first though, because he LOVES murder mysteries and time travel stories.
I still remember when Joey, the anime zone man, was talking about anime as an Industry failing and possibly dying. Like it's still weird to think that at one point anime studios were going out of business left and right. Here's to one piece ending next decade
ngl this makes me so emotional, when i was first introduced to anime when i was 7-my first anime was fairytail, then sailormoon, sword art online and so on. at that time we're only three in our entire school that watched animes (and im always excited when i get to buy my favorite animes). i'm now 16 (9 years of watching animes) and i still can't believe how everything had changed since then. i'm happy that anime got what it's deserved, while sad at the same time because i still and will always miss and love the era i've been even if a new era will come.
This is why I love my mom. My mom was a regular anime watcher and got me into anime at the age of 6. My first series was Bleach, then Sailor moon, and Yu yu hakisho. Also my mom got my name from Sailor moon Darien. Which was her favorite anime series
Shit, my dad go me into yuyuhakusho when he brought a pirated DVD version for me when I was 9, but then he introduced me into the world of literature and history and drag me out of the anime world, it was not until 13 that I start to watch anime frequently.
Attack on titan S4 might just be the best anime when the next 2 arc begins and get a good adaptation. Can't wait for you to talk about it. IT CAN'T BE STOPPED ANYMORE
I've only been watching anime for a few years, but man has it felt like a decade and this video really unleashed some emotions of nostalgia I never thought I'd feel.
I remember that time before when anime wasn’t that big and we would have CDs or USBs of seasons or movies of anime and we would just share them with each other.
@@8007-r7u bro chill wtf But DGZ had his moment of impact waaay before the 2010s, Super had a very shy impact compared of what it did in the 2000s. My aunt who has never seen or know what an anime is started watching Attack on Titan with me today. was just casually rewatching S1 when she said this is so interesting & nice. AoT is gargantuan
Watching this is crazy or makes me realise I've been watching anime for almost a decade. I've known of anime since 2008 but I started watching it properly in 2012 when I started secondary and i had no friends. It was something i would run home to watch, to watch on breaks , watchbefore school, it would always be something I had and could get excited over . I watched pretty much every anime from every season up till 2016. 2016-2018 I stopped watching as much as I grew into kpop but now in 2019 I'm back in it again and 2020 I'm slowly becoming an avid watcher again , aswell as trying to pick up some old manga I love. It's crazy to see how mainstream and how different anime is now. Got heavily bullied for liking anime and now everyone loves it. It's hard but it's nice to have more people into it. It's also crazy watching how youtubers like you have grown with such a huge fanbase glow up . I'm proud how far and accessible anime has come. And I hope to be an avid fan forever
@@5feetaway326 There is truth to this! Some of the first shows I watched were things like Dragon Ball, Sailor Moon, and DBZ. Granted those were really all that were available on television and video stores weren't exactly loaded with things back then. Eventually Toonami came to be and shows like Gundam Wing, Cowboy Bebop, Trigun, and more became accessible. Ahhh, those were the days!
Attack on Titan was definitely a huge sort of "gateway anime" that was a mainstream anime that normal people watched, then were left looking for more. Attack on Titan was MY gateway anime and I've been stuck on a "anime to watch" backlog ever since.
Yeah if we had to pinpoit the animes that really gave a boost to the market, Attack on Titan, One Punch Man and My Hero Academia are def the top 3. Demon Slayer may have caused the nex wave of new anime viewers a few months ago.
@@biazacha As much as people hate it, SAO is up there as well. If you went to any anime con between 2012-2015 I can guarantee you saw a couple dozen Kiritos, a million Asuna's, and infinite members of the scout regiment from Attack on Titan
Agreed, I feel like the pacing in the OG series was better than brotherhood but the ending was hella trash. I’m still scarred from how trash the ending was
i get conflicted about the way that anime has evolved, on the one hand, i love that we can discuss the newest shows with people and that more good new shows are coming out all the time, but i also enjoyed the time where anime was the thing that me and one other friend watched and we could sit down and say, "here are the good anime which exist". we've reached a point where there are just so many shows that i can never watch them all, and as anime becomes mainstream it gets all of the attitudes that come with mainstream media, including massive amounts of toxicity.
I get where you’re coming from and I miss those days too, but what you described was bound to inevitably happen whether we wanted it to or not. There are both good and bad sides to any community, and as a community’s good points causes it’s popularity increase, the bad sides will become more apparent and cause the community to lose its popularity.
I missed the days when I was exploring things now I have like 100 animes in my watchlist that I have wrote down and another 100 anime in my tabs on google And they just keep coming
I mean it got to the mainstream and it didn't. If you mention that you watch anime in a conversation, most people probably still think that you're a weird dude. Heck, two years ago I'd be saying to everyone that I wasn't a weeb and that I just watch JoJo and here I am now
I just hate how when something gets crazy popular it under close scrutiny to not be problematic. Like the fanserice in my hero. Like do people not know that to love ru aired on same magazine? Or how Highshool DXD is also shounen?
@@tylermustappa2982 No, they don't know. The people complaining over things like that aren't anime fans; they just need an excuse to complain about something, anything.
Not really missing out on much, the manga after the anime only has one more fight and a flashback arc before derailing completely and turning into just debating metaphysical concepts.
I started watching anime "seriously" in 2013 I remember I was afraid to talk about anime because I would probably have been called "weird" or "that guy who watches tentacles stuff" So i kept it for myself until maybe 2015/2016 where i met some people who were anime's fan too; i was happy to be able to talk about my favorite hobby with someone without being judged. So i started recommanding some anime even to people who weren't fan ( with little succes tbh ) Now, 2018-2019-2020, all changed. i have went from that strange guy who watches weird stuff to that guy that several times gets asked about "what anime should i watch now?" by his friends Time flies
@@Mellow_Yellow13 it's only a matter of time. I was the same where I reallly got into it 2012 in my first year of undergrad. I would bring it up once in awhile when people asked what shows I watched. The first ever anime I watched sometime back in 2010/2011 (I can`t remember) was Black Rock Shooter, and I thought it SO strange and weird that I could NOT take my eyes off it and had to find more because it was SO crazy I had no idea what I was watching! and yet I needed more! But then 2012 hit and I watched SAO as it aired and THAT was my true gateway that made me enjoy anime for what it could truly give, and I am not ashamed.
Finally watched Your name and A silent voice because i was like "He's using video clips from these two movies alot, i should look them up" I cried. Thanks Gigguk! xD
I remember my first anime being Claymore and it terrified me and then I thought hey maybe watch a different one so I watched berserk and it terrified me again and then I watch konosuba was like huh maybe not all anime is terrifying
b, you described Attack on Titan perfectly. My friend thought it was weird that i was watching anime. Til the day i finally get them to watch AOT.
Lol!)
All of this is to say, I'm thankful to LK, Gigguk and all other anime fans and UA-camrs who have helped to shape and popularize our community :)

I get where you’re coming from and I miss those days too, but what you described was bound to inevitably happen whether we wanted it to or not. There are both good and bad sides to any community, and as a community’s good points causes it’s popularity increase, the bad sides will become more apparent and cause the community to lose its popularity.
I missed the days when I was exploring things now I have like 100 animes in my watchlist that I have wrote down and another 100 anime in my tabs on google
And they just keep coming

I love that you took the time to talk about SnK. It is the most iconic anime of the decade
Its really been a decade huh?
This video is giving me feels somehow, must be nostalgia

Attack on titan was the start of my becoming an anime fan.
I started watching anime "seriously" in 2013
I remember I was afraid to talk about anime because I would probably have been called "weird" or "that guy who watches tentacles stuff"
So i kept it for myself until maybe 2015/2016 where i met some people who were anime's fan too; i was happy to be able to talk about my favorite hobby with someone without being judged. So i started recommanding some anime even to people who weren't fan ( with little succes tbh )
Now, 2018-2019-2020, all changed. i have went from that strange guy who watches weird stuff to that guy that several times gets asked about "what anime should i watch now?" by his friends
Time flies
Man I hope one day I get that moment. Congrats!
@@Mellow_Yellow13 it's only a matter of time. I was the same where I reallly got into it 2012 in my first year of undergrad. I would bring it up once in awhile when people asked what shows I watched. Be proud, even if people make fun of you for it because eventually others who watch anime will come up. A lot of anime fans are the same, they don't want to be judged but when you hear someone else say they watch anime that fear goes away.
@@Mellow_Yellow13 Just speak with confidence, like you are some sort of super villain who will take over the world one day. Lift weights, practice hand to hand combat in your free time, increase your knowledge, take a class on psychology and use it on people. Knowledge + strength = domination!

A friend in highschool 6 years ago showed me SAO in some sandwich shop when I was bandwagon trashing the whole concept of anime. Now 6 years later I’m in highschool he’s in college, and I’m in his position introducing people to anime. I am eternally thankful he introduced me to the culture.
carrying on his legacy i see
Dammit, that ending wasn't even that emotional this time, why am I still tearing up?
The first ever anime I watched sometime back in 2010/2011 (I can`t remember) was Black Rock Shooter, and I thought it SO strange and weird that I could NOT take my eyes off it and had to find more because it was SO crazy I had no idea what I was watching! and yet I needed more!
But then 2012 hit and I watched SAO as it aired and THAT was my true gateway that made me enjoy anime for what it could truly give, and I am not ashamed.
Sao gang 🙌🏻

Thanks Gigguk! xD
I remember my first anime being Claymore and it terrified me and then I thought hey maybe watch a different one so I watched berserk and it terrified me again and then I watch konosuba was like huh maybe not all anime is terrifying
Ouch. That's rough.
Huh, my first anime was Neon genesis Evangelion.. You can kinda guess how I thought what all anime would be like after I watched that.

b, you described Attack on Titan perfectly. My friend thought it was weird that i was watching anime. Til the day i finally get them to watch AOT. They were against anime in every form since they are drug dealers. AOT made them watch a lot of other animes too. That is something I wanna thank AOT for. Damn i love that anime.

This is my life story too. I was the only one who watched anime in my class too and everyone in my class hated anime because it was "Japanese" And it was "Animation" So they said it was weird and stuff. Even my friends and family were disappointed in me for watching anime. Then one kind soul whom I didn't even talk that much took a small interest in anime and asked me for a recommendation and I gave him AOT and he loved it. He recommended it to everyone of my friends and said that it was not weird and that it was a damn good show and more and more started taking interest and started watching AOT and they loved it. Hence AOT holds a special place in my heart too.
