In Shapez one There was no real goal beyond making the requested shape as fast as you could and as autonomously as you could. The primary motivation was just turning it into an idle game. I loved Shapez 1 - It takes Factorio, Satisfactory and many others and simplifies to the most basic element of making. So much of what your saying "This is amazing" over the first 10 minutes is just shapez 1 stuff "Now in 3d".

Not really. The amount of QoL shape 2 has even in the first 10 minutes is insane. Splitters and mergers alone were a pain and now all you need to do is manipulate the conveyor belts. The 2 dimensions are so much more flexible than teleporters. Finally the blueprints is a game changer and intruduced so early is lovely. Dev said he wanted to implement a blueprint save on the first game and never did and shapez2 has it all ready in the demo.

I spent a lot of time with the first game. Stuff could get crazy there; the eventual goal was constructing a series of machines that could read the requested shape for the level and put together parts to build it automatically. Really looking forward to the sequel (and watching people play it :D), and I download the demo as soon as I saw your video showing it was available.

shapez2 is more then a glow up. the mechanics of the game are massively improved. like in shapez you had to manualy place every splitter merger and the directions, a lot more hands on building everthing.
the fact that in a singe stroke you can lay lines and floors of belts is new. the preview image of the shape is prob the best thing and the fact that it calculates it all in real time is awesome.

Yep, the removal of splitters, mergers, and tunnels, and making them part of the basic belt system itself, is a huge plus in my book, alongside not requiring exact rotation on the final shapez delivered, should make for much more compact and potentially complex builds.

I was skeptical when the shift to 3D was announced, but this takes everything that was good from the original and makes it even better! Shapez is one of my favorite factory games because it's so chill. It's automation for automation's sake.

Highly recommend just kinda leaving belts/shapes you’ve already done (even if you no longer need them), and then changing it if you need it for something else. Basically, it’s perfectly fine to leave things going bc you’re gonna need it for something else later. For example, even if you no longer need just half circles, you will need it later to stack on top of the half squares, so there’s no need to re tool your entire factory every time.
Edit: also you can split belts, but I’m just over halfway through the vid lmao, so you may have figured it out later.

10/10 do not recommend doing this in shapez 2, you are very limited in space until space platforms are unlocked.

this is my favorite video covering this game. the wonder in your attitude is contagious. the QOL is amazing. some people are missing the time controls most games like this have. the lack of speed adjustment is intentional. as you need higher quantities you have to build more efficient in order to finish with any sense of speed.

Seeing you clean up your factory between every creation seems crazy. In Shapez 1 you basically had unlimited space so you would just keep adding more factories further and further from the centre and watch with horror the growing spaghetti mess in the middle trying to get all of it to the core 😅 And I see myslef doing it here again even with limited space. But I really love that you clean it every time

    • @TheSkjold86
      @TheSkjold86 8 місяців тому

also you need some of the same shapes later for passive bonuses, so its just waste of time to clean all up

I felt pure agony when you removed the square stacked with circle, instead of using those with splitter- turner for 2x the output for the thrash objective.
Not only is the building intuitive. The tutorial is trying to teach you to work with the shapes you build before.
This already seems like a game im going to love xD

  • @YukoValis

Shapez 1 plays exactly like this only 2D. So you aren't missing that much besides 3D space. This is a good combination of a factory and an idle game. You are free to make something crazy or simple. Whatever you need. It is a laid back experience and quite enjoyable.

I played the first Shapez game for a while, and really enjoyed it, and still dip in now and then, but I really like how Shapez 2 looks and plays. So many enhancements and new features without movjng too far away from the first game. Really makes me want to buy it.
One suggestion I have is to pay attention to the speed of the various parts of your builds to eliminate bottlenecks. For example, one single extractor will not feed a full belt to the next part of a build, so you need two or three extractors per belt, and the tutorial for stackers shows to place four spaced two grid squares apart, then connect then to the full belts to get the most out of them. Remember, if you're not getting a full belt out of a build, you've not got enough of whatever parts you used in that machine.

I've been trying the demo last night as well. I've also played a LOT of the original SHAPEZ. This sequel adds a ton of QOL features; especially the ability of just splitting the flow of shapes by forking the belts (you needed special machines in the original to do that). By the way, one of the first tutorial texts does tell you that it doesn't matter the shape rotation, as long as everything requested is on it.
I should also point out that the original SHAPEZ is on sale right now! I strongly recommend you getting that; it's not just the factory-building main game, but it also has a very nice puzzle mode. Have fun!

I remember the reddit post that first announced the first Shapez game. "I was playing Factorio, but didn't want to deal with buildings and belts costing resources. So I thought: 'I'm a programmer, I can just make it!'"
It started as a web-game, but enough people wanted to play that he made a (cheap) paid version on steam.

This looks really cool. I'd love to see the throwing and catching conveyors right of the factories, going straight into a cut or rotation then launching it to the next step, repeat till complete. I wonder if you could catch something launched on the first floor with a conveyor on the second.

I get the same vibes from this that I get from Creeper World 4 in terms of them really caring about quality-of-life.
Although I'm quite surprised that I'm not seeing a speed-up option, given how much time seems to be spent just waiting for things to get "conveyored" along. All the quality-of-life the game has makes it especially questionable to have speed upgrades instead of having that be core functionality. But this isn't really my type of game in any case, so maybe I'm missing the point.

    • @_miyu

It doesn't have speed up controls because its entirely in your hands. Are you waiting on a shape? Why not make another machine? Why not improve your machine?

Unoptimized designs ought to be slower. It was a lot of fun to design assemblies that use full belts of inputs and outputs, and then later on design different variations to fit different requirements. Some fun designs I remember were fitting it into a 2-wide space regardless of how long it became, and allowing painters to output the uncoloured shape if no paint was being supplied (and that was before wires were added to the game)
