I did an experiment based on a Japanese youtuber's recommendation to do a long 10+ hour session in a day of just practice drawings. I liked the idea but I ended up splitting it to two days. I made a video on my channel about my observations and how my art improved after doing it, but like you said art takes time and practice so I'm just going to practice at my own pace, mainly bite sized practice every day and have long sessions when I feel in the mood for it. I used to hate doing practice sketches but now they're about as fun as doing normal drawings, if not a bit more fun because my skills improved. I noticed it was similar to how Japanese got more and more fun for me as I slowly understood it more and basically doing anything in Japanese stopped feeling like study or practice even if it technically was. I guess I'm slowly getting like that with drawing.
Yesss!!! That's exactly it! It's all about a consistent pace. That slowly builds the habit, and the better you get, the more enjoyable it is to practice. It's a positive feedback loop for sure🤙🏽💯I'll check out your video😎
@@RoddVeiler bro what? All they said was to just have a long ass practice session where you don't waste too much time doing finished drawings and instead do a ton of sketches. The video title was something like "improve your drawing skill in one day" idk what you mean by workaholic.
Totally agree. Small steps. Only just dawned on me in last 2 months. Not caring about end result. Just gathering exp points through thoughtful practice. 15 min to 30min study and I’m busted. Brain dead and on some nights frustrated and other nights I’m like it’s ok. After those 15-30min studies which have a goal… I draw what I want and go to bed after or spend an hour watching recorded session feedback I received or feedback other students receive. Hard to be humble and accept I’m not ready to go to next level😅 still gotta finish this level of the dungeon before moving on. Still learning fundamentals. Still learning to “observe”. That’s a hard one to explain- developing observation skills. Did you do a video on how you develop yours, Chris?
100 percent agree! It sounds like you have a pretty effective process there. I have not made a video on observation but I have thought about it a lot. I will look into possibly making a video or two on that in the future! Thanks for the comment and keep up the great work😃🤙🏽
@@ChrisMason_01 thanks man. Yeah if you have time, share your view on observation please. My process is effective when the mood is in place. Not gonna lie. Motivation is great when you’re keen and raring but when “life happens”, like Goggins said in his audio book Can’t Hurt Me, and you have also mentioned in this video… motivation has its limitations. I sometimes have to do like 5-10min cardio ago activate “positive mindframe”. Half the time it is end the end of a mad day at work. Cook dinner for kids. Make sure homework is done and they’re in bed. Then I have 1-2 hours my time before bed. Well sh!t! Can’t give up coz I know what my future 50 year old self will say if I do…
@@Ron_SenseiI've talked a bit about that before but this channel called 'namukir' on UA-cam talks about that stuff in depth! It's a good resource for artists!
