What a unit! Sheepscot Pond is a beautiful area in Maine to be cruising around. We are building a 93 Ford Ranger Splash on our channel. We are going to keep the 3.0 V6 but do some modifications to make it run a little harder. Thanks for sharing.
I LOVE IT!!!!! So simple and so so quick. Excellent engineering!!!! I love the early Ford Ranger. I know they do not get much love. But I love them as well. Great video and thanks for sharing. TOTALLY AWESOME RANGER!!!
Sounds like he revved to maybe 4500 no way it makes 500. Though even with under 300 it will be quick since minitruck weigh nothing. 500hp would he a death trap
I disagree on the 500hp? There is no way it's 500hp. My buddy has a 1984 Ford ranger 4x4 with 33 inch all season tires and a 347 stroker Ford v8 and that is making 400hp and it will crank up to 7500 rpm with no effort. My 2006 Ford focus has 10.0:1 compression ratio and its 100% stock. It sounds nice but it's not making 500hp...sorry i have heard LS small block 5.3 with a good intake manifold and gasket matched ports that sound wicked at the race track. We have one guy that races a 1974 Gran torino with a 351 Cleveland and it is just a 3/4 race camshaft with gasket matched intake and exhaust i took it for 3 hot laps around the track and that care scared the💩out of me it was crazy fast with highway gears. It's a cool little truck but not 500hp...I 👍
Thank God it's not another LS swap I'd love to see a Coyote under one of deez bad boys imo or even an I6 2jzgte don't know how a 2jzgte would fit well in a Ranger but would be fun to see but have seen it before in a Toyota pickup so idk why it wouldn't work in a Ranger
I've had cars from every American car company , i currently have a 2003 Ranger Edge and a 1995 Camaro . No need to hate on another brand , it depends on what type of vehicle , and the Ranger happens to be the best small truck ever made . Some folk would argue that their rusty Toyota or Nissan is better , but the Ranger lasted until 2012 . And Toyota and Nissan quit making small trucks long before that , and the Ranger is every bit as reliable as any Japanese car or truck .
With the right heads on a stroker 408 and big enough carb that thing can easily produce 500hp at the crank like it's nothing. Not sure why everyone is doubting it. Look up a 408 stroker and you can see Dyno results all day long.
Maybe if it was a 351 Cleveland and a set of afr heads or even the stock heads fully ported and gasket matched. A stroker 347 cranks harder than this.. I have helped work on Chevy and Ford v8 engines. It sounds neat but it is respectfully only 300hp??
That sounds like a stock 351 Windsor with a mild torque camshaft. Just an fyi Windsor engines have small intake valves and exhaust valves. They only make 150 to 160 horsepower stock... neat but
Exactly. Mild 351w based 408 in my daily econoline makes 460hp and 495ftlbs with only 190cc heads. Plenty of guys up in the 600hp range with NA 408s. Don't know why people think 500 is out of question in this thing
Nice truck 👍 looks like it still drives like a truck engine too. 500hp in a ranger will definitely “spin those tires” lol your probably around 380-400. Did you loose your low end torque? It would be cool to see a dyno and see where it is now.
480hp 477tq at the tire. Fresh build at the time so I wasn’t gunna beat it up out the gate. Also I build it for a lot of bite in the four link and with 26 inches of sticky Mickey’s on the ground. Makes it want to dig and go. 500 will spin the tires when at 5500 rpm I never went above 3500 in this video. Two peak is at 4500
I was about to ask what kind of engine. Kinda figured it was at least a 351w considering how tame it is. I mean you could do it with a 306 but it would be one hell of radical engine. Nice truck
Eh. I have a pretty mild 408 in my econoline and I'm getting 460hp and a few feet shy of 500ftlbs tq. If he has decent sized heads on there (I only have 190cc) I bet he's close to 500 at the fly wheel.
@@19jody72 yeah man, youtube search " 408 4x4 van". That's mine. I have a few videos of startups and stuff from when I did the engine swap. It's ugly as sin, but it crawls up and over anything and will drag a dump truck out of the snow hahaha. There's a few videos of my 302 swapped ranger on there too! Gotta love those little things hahaha.
I have a 2wd 5 speed 4.0 OHV Ranger. It's straight piped , generic specter? intake, throttle cable mod, cat delete, a.c. delete w shorter belt. 2 speed Taurus E fan conversion..xlt w manual windows locks..weighs bout 3100 (Edit.. It also has bout 370,000 miles. Last record was 220,000 miles in 1999 or 2000. Lost track.)
I added a full cage after this. with 8 gallons of gas, mufflers on with me it right after my 11.88 @ 114 pass. it weighed 3150. Again the factory truck weighed 2880 by its self with a 4 cylinder. At the time of this video i had not weighed it and the 3195 i said in with video was a guess. I agree that is still too heavy Phase 2 its gonna be 2600 ish.
What would be considered too light for a truck this size? As far as hooking tires, going too light would cause issues as well seeing that most of the weight is towards the front of the truck.
@@curtis39wayne16 ya but is there like an equation to figure out how much weight is ideal based on the power output of the vehicle. Trucks specifically are notorious for spinning tires because there is alot less weight on the rear of the chassis. I know you can add weight but what is IDEAL.
You'll wanna do a 351. Stronger block. But the explorer bay is cramped by the electronics. I'd know.. I'm gutting one for my ranger as the AWD explorer was a bit underpowered for its weight. Now a 351 is more than capable of the torque to make it a monster. In fact, stock 2000 5.0 explorers made about 300lbs of torque at the crank
Junk yards don't charge that much for original four-cylinder ranger engines I'd say between $250 to $500 you can have the exact same setup as you seen this video 😁💯🤔🙄
Man those old rangers are such a great platform. Too bad it’s so difficult/impossible to make them nice street builds. No room for AC stuff without serious cutting. I miss my old 89. Should have kept it and done something like this with it. Sold it to a crack head for 500 after the head gaskets went.
I’ve got a 92 ranger I’d love to get set up like this. Probably throw a Chevy motor in it though just because it’s cheaper. Would rather do a gt500 swap to it but can’t afford it lol
Those exhaust pipes need to be pointed out away from the rear tires. On a hot day on a longer drive they could get way too hot, and fail. Simply turning them out to the sides of the truck would be much better.
No where near 500 hp. Anyone who has owned some muscle knows you don't do a burn out in first, you have to do it in second. First just goes way to quick for a high hp motor. That thing bogged way down going into second. That and it doesn't rev near fast enough.
Anyone that takes the time to setup the rear suspension knows that having a wide tire an a lot of bite means leaves not spins. Everything was done at 70% tps and below 4000 rpm. Thanks for the comments helps out my cuz!

Dude pointed to that Ford Trucks shirt.... I too happen to randomly wear that exact same shirt right now as I watch.
I'd say that's far from 500hp. Probably lucky to be 280hp. Still like it though 👍.
Mucho Gracious AGREED not even 500 @ the flywheel. Stock Poonstangs have more HP....
Based on his mph in the 1/4 mile and weight of the truck at the time it ran that 1/4 mile. It’s making at least 350whp
