I found that if you put the rod on the lock before reinstalling it's much easier and taking the bolt from the window rack allows for more range of motion. pop the locking rod in then the handle rod. Viola! Thanks for the tutorial though
Now that’s the info I needed! I can’t get the backing plate past the rail. I even called a body shop but will give it another try by looking for the 10 mm you mentioned
Never would have got this apart without seeing this. One thing I was able to notice - if you fully engage the door mechanism into a position that's rotated past fully open, it makes it easier to get the silver bracket inside the door to separate from the handle/lock mechanism. At least that seemed to help for me.

I know I've changed a door handle on one of my other chevy vans, in the past, that was way easier than my 2012. That bracket is a pain. Good vid.
thank you.
I you remove the adjacent window rail, one 10mm and washer, the backing plate will go in or out easily

It worked! Got it in fairly easy after taking out the guide rail bolt at the bottom.

Take window track bolt out at bottom and it gives enough room to remove and replace

you welcome! Thank you for the feedback:)
I removed the window track and still fought it for an hour. I gave up and just cut that silver tab off. Went right in. DONE!!!
What ever makes it work sometimes .
That dreaded silver tab. That's what slowed down the reinstall. I'll cut it off next time
