Thank you for the excellent tutorial. I ended up getting KH 750 + KH 80 with MA 1 on the computer desk in my study room. I can honestly say this is my end system -- he precision, tonality, and fullness is just perfect. A bonus is KH 750 takes digital input directly from my computer, so no more "middlemen" such as DAC, pre amp, power amp, etc. Since my computer is the sole source so this works extremely well for me.
This is a good demo/ tutorial. Just received the MA1 today and looking forward to calibrating the kh310s to the 750 in my imperfect room. I have eight 703 based bass traps and good absorption/diffusion so it should balance out nicely.
I agree. Got 2 KH310A and after a year I bought a KH750 and MA1. It is so absolutely tight, it is just always correct. Never changed anything in the setup afterwards.
I have just bought a pair of kh310z would you recommend the kh750 sub?? Also what happens when you move rooms or wish to revert back to the original speaker sound pre ma1 treatment?
Ugh, why do I have a feeling that the part at 4:30 and the supposed "bunch of time" at 6:53 is recorded few minutes/hours apart, just with a different shirt?
Sweet water The built in Dsp is a great feature. I believe there should be more options for external DSP for mixing purposes. An extern DSP unit with built-in convoluted reverb would help a lot rooms.
@@RonnieVaiArovo Just so you know this isn’t my idea. While applying filters in external units or software like sonarworks help correct the frequency response they don’t help help with duration of frequencies in a room. There is a mastering engineer on UA-cam that has a series of videos talking about it. I understand room acoustics and the need for acoustic treatment and do not offer the following as an alternative but in addition. Rooms still need to be acoustically treated. if you’ve done any degree of research on room acoustics you will knows that the bass response in a room can be expensive to correct. First, Acoustically treating a room and then taking the impulse response of a room. Then use the information from the impulse response to add a small amount of reverb to help even out frequencies in the time domain within a space.
Great Video. One question: if I were to remove the sub from my monitor controller, will the KH 120 sound at their normal full frequency spectrum or will they sound lighter as a sub is is connected? Thanks for your insight
Hi, Guido! Thanks for your interest. I’m not sure how well the MA1 calibration would work if you were going into the sub via a separate output from your monitor controller. The subwoofer itself is designed to send a processed signal to the main monitors via its outputs. With that said - yes, if you’ve performed the calibration procedure and you then deactivate the sub, the main monitors will still be calibrated as if the sub is connected, so you probably won’t hear their full frequency range. This system is designed to provide the most accurate sound with the sub on, so I’d recommend hooking it up the way Neumann suggests for best results. I hope this helps a bit - feel free to contact me directly with any further questions, and thanks again! Caleb Lowrey, Sweetwater Sales Engineer, (800) 222-4700 ext. 1620, caleb_lowrey@sweetwater.com
When the calibration is done, should I set the switch from Network back to Local? Or should I leave it at "Network" for the calibration to stay active?
Hi there! Once you have calibrated the speakers, you are able to disconnect them from the network. From there, you’re able to A/B between the local settings and the saved network settings. As long as you save the network settings after calibrating, they will be saved into the speakers. I’ve copied a link to the MA1 manual for some further information. See page 10! manuals.plus/wp-content/sideloads/neumann-ma-1-automatic-monitor-alignment-manual-optimized.pdf I hope this helps. Hi I already have the KH80’s and I really love them but would like to further extend the low end with the KH750, will this be ok in compact space of say 12ft x6ft? I would also use the MA1 mic to correct everything and I have some acoustic treatment in the space already. Could this sub work for me?
Hi, Ria! Thanks for your interest. Yes, I'd say the KH750 is a perfect match for the KH80s - and if the room is treated, I wouldn't foresee any issues with bass management. Hey, Frank. Thanks for your interest in the Neumann MA 1. The speaker requirements are as follows: 1 pair of KH DSP loudspeakers or 1 KH 750 DSP Subwoofer in combination with a pair of analog (non-DSP based) KH loudspeakers. Pretty straight forward, but let me know if you have any further questions! Thanks and have a great day. hi hello sir .. I hav an big issue in my room with my set up... please if you could help....I wil explain u in short.... I have apollo twin mk2 sound card and im using Neumann tlm 102 ... whenever now a days im trying to record than I get issue... the moment I put on the phantom power on than there is low frequency coming often and it doesn't stop at all.... now almost 6 month past.... I thought its mic issue but than I don't think so...... now recently two days before I took my sound card cable and mic to one shop and over there its started working properly.... so i took it back and again connected my home so there wasn't any issue... it worked properly and I recorded.... but than after two days I put it on and I found same issue........ could you please help me ?
Hello, I use a pair of kh310 connected to 750 to calibrate. After calibration, I save the parameters and then close the software. After unplugging the network cable, is the calibration parameter written into the subwoofer dsp? I don’t need to connect the network cable every time I use it. Expect to you to answer me , thank you so much.
yes, unplug it and the Correction is written inside every Neumann Speaker wich has DSP insides - in your case the Sub. So you hear the Correction, you set up in the software
The ipad app controls the dsp on the sub through wifi, so potentially the ma-1 software will work. Plug your router directly into the sub and connect your macbook to the wifi
Hello, great question! This can only be used with the Neumann KH80s and KH750 subwoofer. Feel free to reach out with any other questions. Thanks! Jason Filloramo, Sweetwater Sales Engineer, (800) 222-4700 ext. 1281, Jason_Filloramo@sweetwater.com
I'm actually selling mine. I've used it for less than a year. Got it from vintage king June 2020. Selling it for $1000.00 for the pair. I upgrade to the KH310's. I'm in Los Angeles though.
?? So how do you think how this should works ? Its a DSP + Software developed by Neumann. You pay for it to use it. Same as Genelecs SAM Software + Microphone Kit. Its like any DSP / Software like Trinnov, AcourateCV, Sonarworks you pay once and have everytime the possibility to do a new Measurement. How should that work in your mind ? Rent the Software and Microphone and bring it back to Neumann :-D

@@ARCASIAUK you can change the dsp back in the software. It can be recommended depending on your room acoustics.
Would be interesting to have a sweep graph before and after calibration to show the difference.
The measurements will be ruined if the microphone is placed closer to the ceiling than the speaker elements.

Is MA1 still required with this sub and KH 120 II?
Its a shame i cant use the DSP Measurement with

I don’t know.. I mean, what do Neumann know about microphones?
Does the MA 1 with KH 120s cause any latency due to DSP? Or is it possible to not use DSP when connecting a 750 with a pair of KH 120s via the MA 1?
1.5 ms (A-D-A linear phase)
1.2 ms (D-A linear phase)
You can use KH750 with a pair of KH 120s without the DSP off course
