I'm glad you've finally got your grail watch, and it's such a shame that a few rogue elements almost ruined it for you. I'm a huge Omega fan and luckily, I've never had an issue with mine - I bought the black dial Planet Ocean and it was flawless from day one. And I'm pleased you mentioned the wonderful service you got from Omega and the boutique - I've always found Omega's service and professionalism to be excellent, far better than Rolex's considering you're paying less money for the watches. I hope your Seamaster brings you many years of joy.

I totally agree with you that if you're paying this much, you expect a brand new perfect watch. Just bought the same watch (Black Seamaster) early this month and at first glance it was perfect. I got home and was playing with the bezel then I noticed it is ever so slightly misaligned! Slept on it, woke up the next day and I can't admire the watch anymore without noticing the misalignment. Went back to my AD the same day and they will get me a new one. Still waiting for the watch, hoping everything is perfect this time.

I’m so glad to hear you agree with Me, it’s good to hear your doing something about the imperfection as i know how hard it is to see the watch past the imperfection once noticed. I really hope its prefect second time around. However, if that’s not the case I implore you to push for perfection and not settle for any imperfection no matter how small :)

I have the same watch, mine is near perfect, it loses just under a second a day,.. I wear it on a black Isofrane strap for the summer, and the bracelet in the winter. The clasp is a bit of a scratch magnet, but soon rectified with a Garryflex block..
Mine was my retirement gift to myself, and it's just over 2 years old now..
It makes me happy, every time I look at it, and to me, that is priceless...
Sorry to hear you've had so many problems,, I picked mine up from my AD, so I could thoroughly inspect it, and have the bracelet adjusted on the spot..
    All the best, John..

Glad worked out for you eventually. I just acquired a brand new Seamaster 300, I went to set the time and the crown just kept turning and turning, finally I was able to attempt to set the time, but only the hour hand moved while the seconds kept going, I turned the crown back and now it is back to just turning and turning. I’m hoping I can get this resolved quickly. Quite a large amount of money spent to encounter a problem before being able to wear!!!!

I can fully relate with your experience. I have owned a few Omega watches but have had problems with 2 brand new omega watches. 1st was the dynamic which i purchased in 1998. It had a huge speck of dust at the 11 o’clock marker & like you, my focus quickly shifted to that. After 2 weeks, i couldn’t take it anymore so brought the watch to the service centre to have it removed. My 2nd bad experience took place when i purchased brand new planet ocean in 2007. The coaxial movt was new at that time & mine had the infamous 2500A movt in it. I have read about this movt having stoppage issues on watch forums & true enough, my planet ocean died on me one day. But the watch was only about 6 months old. Sent it in to get it serviced & came back running flawlessly. However, 3 months later it stopped again. I was very upset of cos. Finally sold the watch after the 2nd service. But i must say that when the planet ocean was running, it was extremely accurate. The watch only gained 2 secs in 5 to 6 days. That was the only good thing about the 2500 movt.

    • @RipiresReviews
      @RipiresReviews  2 роки тому

I'm not sure that's a complete reflection of this video.
However, I could not size the bracelet in person as we were in a lockdown. The specS of dust were not welcome. And yes, I don't believe I should pay £4 for delivery on an already expensive bracelet.
How did you find your Omega?

@@RipiresReviews I have the SMP300 Chronograph with the Grey dial and blue sub dials. Love it. Purchased new in May 2021 for £5751. (10% discount) although that would represent a 17.5% discount based on 2022 retail prices. The 9900 caliber is incredibly accurate. +0.5 seconds a day. Truly amazing. Interestingly enough, I’ve just bought the official omega blue 21mm (Chronograph lug width) rubber strap and buckle from an authorised dealer. Having to wait 6 weeks for delivery but no delivery charges on top. £260. Looking forward to it arriving.

Wow, provides a nice perspective for someone who recently got into watches. I am a James Bond fan so naturally the Omega Seamaster Diver 300M is one of my grail watches. Honestly, I would lose my mind if I found flaws like those in video as well. Misaligned bezels and chapter rings on considerably cheaper Seikos bother me so find issues like this on a $7400 CAD watch. I would be taking it back everytime. I am still planning on getting one in the future.

@@jean4j_ I was strongly considering the recent model with ceramic bezel and dial with etched wave lines. That being said, I recent looked into the competition and ended up with two dive watches instead of the Omega. I now have a Longines HydroConquest blue and gold as well as a Tudor Pelagos combined for less than the price of a Seamaster 300M. The Longines is my dressy diver (what the Omega would been) and the Tudor is my everyday, tool watch. I still like Omega but their constant price increases are getting obscene.

Maybe try to get the watch at an AD next time. Usually they can give you a discount on the watch and you can look at the watch your purchasing for any flaws. They can size the watch. I have an aquaterra and they sized it twice for me. It also helps for future discounts too if they know you bought with them before. The AD might be intimidating, but well worth it to come in. They are usually nice.

Trust me mate, there is no such perfect brand existing! Whether you buy a brand new Rolls Royce or a Patek Philippe, there will always be some errors or misperfections! For instance; probably Mercedes S Class has "almost" the same quality level as the Rolls Royce Phantom but Rolls Royce charges you triple compare to Benz and still they might have some technical problems. Or world famous crown models such as Sub, Daytona or GMT Master had same dust issues on many models years ago although they charge "at least" double compares to Omega. So, within this price range, SMP still does great job and feels premium enough if we think some crown or Patek models are impossible to get by AD prices and you can get the whole SMP range (now 5 colors with the 2022 green one release) with "1" Starbucks Sub on the grey market price despite Rolex also have some quality issues time to time! Enjoy your fantastic SMP and great Omega service standards at least without any arrogant-tricky staff out there!!! Cheers 😎

Great video…though despite your issues it’s made me start lusting after a new black Seamaster again! I had my eye on this watch a couple of years back, but ended up buying another grail watch instead, a blue 2007 model as featured in my fave Bond film, Casino Royale. I share your insistence on perfection, which is a problem buying an older watch! Amazingly, I found a pristine, unworn example, but as you’ve experienced, this comes with issues too…I only wear it sitting at home as I’m terrified of scratching a watch that has survived 15 years without a single mark! Your rubber strap is a great solution, and I know how comfortable those are from trying on the same model myself. Good that you’ve highlighted Omega’s great service too…I’ve always found their boutique staff enthusiastic and friendly, in sharp contrast to those of a certain other high-end competitor!

      Every company will do this.
What you need to understand is dust can easily hide ANYWHERE. Whenever i put a watch together i quadruple check for dust. Blow it, apply case, check for dust. Remove, spot dust, check again. Four times. You remove ALL the dust then later on, one piece of dust from the lume or hidden under something pops out. It’s impossible to prevent, not everyone can afford maintain or work in a clean room.

I had a QC issue with the seamaster I bought from the boutique in Biel which is right next to the Omega factory and museum. After calling them the staff in Biel contacted the boutique in Zurich where I was staying and told them I would be coming in to exchange the watch. I inspected two new watches with a loop before finding one that met my expectations. Like your experience the staff at both locations were excellent. But if possible I highly recommend going to the boutique and carefully inspecting the watch in person. While the experience was pleasant overall it has made me much more hesitant to buy any expensive watch online.

That’s interesting. Ok, my 2006 IWC Ceramic Doppelchronograph has a speck of something stuck on the rehaut at about 11:30. It has never moved since new and never annoyed me, in fact it’s our little secret; a trace left by a human; the watchmaker who encased it. This watch regulation has recently gone off hence it indicates that the watch requires its first and well deserved service. On that occasion I am wondering if I should not request that this little speck be left untouched… Now coming to Omega, I recently collected the Seamaster NTTD I had ordered from my AD in Paris. It is a beautiful and rather unique and special watch but upon closer inspection, initially without a loupe, I noted that the 12 o’clock two luminescent blocks are a bit dislodged from their titanium box markers… At first it was slightly disappointing but after a thought and realising that there were no chances of collision with the minutes hand I decided to keep it that way until a month prior the guarantee expiration then I shall give it for a remedial service which will be free of charge. Of course, I wrote to Omega advising of the issue and joined a clear picture. They understood. So, all is not that bad. I do like my first Omega !

As im sure your aware there is no way to get one of these on their website or any partnered websites. It is a in boutique thing only, so i arranged one to be delivered to my closest boutique and made the journey to get it fitted. Its still the best thing ive done with my omega and would reccomend the strap, just make sure you specify you want the blue if thats the case :)

I tried the black face 42mm version on today. It is a nice watch and I would like to buy it, but it's annoyingly too small for my 19cm/7.5" wrist! I know they've tooled a 43.5mm version in ceramic (no red highlights, no date, and 1.5x cost!) so why can't they do this model based on that case sizing? For now, I'll carry on wearing my 45.5mm Planet Ocean 600M chrono but I would like a non-chrono watch to wear for a change. I know some people comment hoping certain larger watches could be made for their smaller wrists, but it works both ways! There are a lot of watches I like that are just too small, especially 40mm and under which look like they're made for children!

I’ve had specs beneath the crystals of both my Rolex and my black bay. I’ve come to believe that it’s going to happen to any of them below the $9k mark, give or take. Get up toward Glashuette Originale etc and it tends to never happen.
Fwiw, I dipped mine for like 2 secs through an ultrasonic cleaner and it rattled them somewhere else not to be seen again.

So now what are you going to do when you have it serviced from Omega? I took mine for a battery once and Omega Dealer refused to replace the battery st the store and required it to be returned to Omega for service, So now instead of getting a battery I was forced to get a whole service, which cost quite a huge amount of money, and I was without the watch for several weeks. My sister took it to a local jeweler just this month and got one put in for $12. I love mechanical watches, they are great fun. I own several Rolex models as well, but one problem with these things is there is a limit to how much you have to put up with to own them. It reminds me of a guy who once said, to keep his Harley clean he had to buy a $400,000 house to store it. I try hard to keep any watch collecting down to four pieces max. So if I want a new one, I have to get rid of one. You can only wear one!

@@RipiresReviews I bought a black submariner new in the 1990's. Then I bought an Omega Sea=Master 300M Chrono Diver. Then I bought a steel white faced Daytona in 1999 (an amazing story). Then about 2007 I bought a Platinum Dial Yacht-Master. Then I sold the Submariner to a watch shop in Newport Beach because the Yacht-Master outclassed it. Then in 2018 I bought a Black GMT-II. All these from the ADs. So I have now got an Omega Sea-Master 300M chrono from the 1990's and these three Rolex models. Forget about having new watches, because any of them become old real quick! I am not a fan of selling them, even though I have done it. I believe a watch should be owned your whole life unless you really must sell it or trade it. You will always remember your day buying it and smile. But you won't be smiling when you decide to sell one unless you are trading up to a veritable heavy hitter. Onwards and ever upwards! Life is short.

I'm with you on everythihng except the strap, I mean I get it... it sucks. You got a luxury watch and the straps, buckles and tangs/deployant clasps come at a premium as well, for a replacement strap I spend around $430 OTD for my JLC reverso and thats just the leather. But the fact that Omega acutally sent you a second watch with dust under the dial is embarrasing, they knew that was an issue and didn't QC the replacement. For me Omega is on my S list after the whole moonswatch debacle, was going to buy and aqua terra but after that whole mess and the ceo going back on their word about them being available online I bought myself a Grand Seiko blue snowflake instead.

Yes, the lume is great on the hour markers, but not so great on those skeletonized hands - I had considerable difficulty deciphering the time from your lume shot. The silicone strap prices are ridiculous - a fitted strap of equal quality from Steinhart (complete with buckle) costs about 55 euros. I can see the value in the watch, given that lovely movement, but charging that much for a strap is just price gouging. And is there not a micro-adjustment on the clasp so you could get the fit right without sending it back to the factory? Sheesh!
