Fun fact: The Porsche 917K never had a chance to race at the Nurburgring on actual life due to safety concerns.
But during the 1969 ADAC Nurburgring 1,000KM the early version was entered and raced by Frank Gardner and David Piper they complain on how threatening it was while having a jump and sideways.
Despite the scary drive it finished 8th overall, and that was it. Porsche would enter instead their nimble 908/3 open cockpit prototype.
when you say "on actual life" does that mean in real life, or during a real grid life event? im thinking real life but the more i think about it, grid life makes more sense.. hell they both do lol
@@terra6084 they tested it there and the testdrivers said it’s undriveable under Nordschleife conditions.
So yes it drove there a few times, also in the mentioned 1k km ADAC race, but that was the only official race back then.
There is a great German Podcast called „alte Schule“ about traditional car development and race drivers.
In every episode he interviews a different driver or former auto industry executive who are now retired and it’s amazingly insightful!
One of the earlier episodes is with a Porsche Testdriver from that time and he explains in detail what’s wrong with the car on the Nordschleife and why the 908/3 „Bergspyder“ that was also used in the Targa Florio is the better car for that job.
But the podcast is in German and there’s no English translation available.
In 1969 the car was raw and with a lot of flaws, the aerodynamics was poor, the car bounced and got lift in the rear at high speeds instead of down force.
Only in 1970 after the work done with John Wyer and the development of the version K the car became the legend it is today.
And actually the car did run in Nordscheleife, but in the hands of privateers and not the so called works teams. Porsche decided not to run not because of safety issues but because it was not fit to the track. Despite what our youtuber friend said the car was fit to fast circuits, it was considered far heavy and not nimble enough to deal with narrow and twisty courses, and that happened in Targa Florio that year when Vic Elford ended up exhausted after finishing just one single lap. For those circuits Porsche had de 908/3 with a 3L engine (group 6 - spec), much more light and nimble.
GT7 is incredible. Unlike FM, it feels like a game made by adults for adults. It's not meant to be "beautiful" but rather to be PHOTOREALISTIC.
Even with the potential to sell fewer copies, Kazunori continues to believe in his vision for GT. I can't help but wonder what it will be like when he retires...
It hurts to think that this generation of young people is slowly destroying all of this.

The 917 was added to The Crew 2 recently and I absolutely fell in love with it. I’m finally getting a PS5 in a month and I can’t wait to experience it with GT7’s incredible physics, graphics and audio 😃
Such a beautiful car. I got to see one in person in 2017. It was in the Martini Rossi Livery though (but also at the Nürburgring). Just an incredible car. They sadly although understandably only drove the gp course and not the Nordschleife.

The obscene prices wouldn't be so much of a problem if the campaign didn't just cut off and progressed up to higher and higher paying events.
The game also just needs more events in general for different specs of cars. The most expensive cars often have no content to use them in

If such expensive cars had events made for them, preferably with payouts to match, I would agree. As it is, you have to rely on custom races and the only reward is the most basic one (the fact that you like the car itself)

Well, now I am going to go and race it on Assetto
GT7 graphics are amazing! I didn't have PS4 or PS5 because I would need to buy a console and a new steering wheel, so it was a lot of money and I decided to let it go. But I played GT5 and 6 a lot and I love the GT serie (I played 1, 2, 5 and 6).
But, on the other side, I believe that this car is very different in Assetto Corsa. In AC the car looks a lot "older" than in GT7. I know that I'm a worst driver, but I can't take corners and accelerate the way you did in AC. So, if possible, can you compare this car in both games? Just my curiosity.

Ermz, I am a giant motorsports fan turned car enthusiast. Big Honda and BMW guy. That said I am at a point in my life where I want to casually play racing games on a controller and not as much in my Sim rig. I am on PC and Xbox but Forza just isn’t doing it for me in terms of handling and i’ve been bitten by the bug and have considered buying a PS4 Pro and GT7 to grind for and try out cars, learning about them and better appreciate them. I’m not really looking to race online, just the single player campaign. Would the pro be adequate? How does it feel on controller? I don’t have the money for the 5 and I don’t want to hold my breath for a PC release.

Beautiful car, but horrible to drive. It took me awhile to beat the final license. I hated the experience. I had bought an instance for training and sold it afterwards.

Nice vid. I did a version of the 1970 1000km of Nurburgring with Assetto Corsa (twitch realdealgod), reproducing the full grid with the mostly right cars, drivers and weather of the year, but in half distance, a part of the recreation of the championship I did that year to celebrate the Le Mans 50th anniversary and to cheer Steve McQueen.
And the interesting is that in real life this car was not chosen to run in Nordscheleife because it was considered far heavy and not nimble enough to deal with twisty and narrow circuits and was fitted to fast courses like Daytona, Sebring, Le Mans, Monza and Spa. The works Porsche teams ran the 908/3 (group 6 spec) instead. But the 917K did run in the hands of privateers such Gesipa Racing Team.

Does this Game content the Nürburgring historic 1971, the Südschleife, the Gesamtstrecke 1970? No.
Does it allow you to set the time of your drive all around the clock hour by hour? No.
Does it force you to grind hours and hours of pointless races against AI to gain so much credits to afford ridiculous prices? Yes.
Can you set up a race against the AI with practice, qualifying, the time of start, the distance and what not just in the moment
when you're in the mood to have some proper racing fun? No
Does it exhaust you by grinding over and over and even makes you feel depressed by having thoughts of you wasting your time? Yes
Does the driving feel unnatural clean and somehow dull? Yes
Does it have idiots in the community who just ram you off the track intentionally? Yes
So, i'm sticking to ACC and AMS2 and have some good racing, leaving me with a good feeling after turning off the computer.

The car seems no where near as brutal in AC as in GT7. I've never played GT7, but Ermz's gameplay looks like he is constantly on a knife edge, while the car in AC is extremely composed even at high speeds. Of course, most of us (if not all) will never get to drive this thing, but the reality I imagine is somewhere in between the two.

Sadly Gt7 is not a good racing game
But it actually is, great car and tracks, fun game modes, rather good physics model, great weather system, amazing car history,solid online and I could keep on. What other modern racing game compares? AC? Good physics and FFB but the game is relevant only because of mods. Iracing? PC only and way too expensive. ACC good but limited.GT7 has much more to give than those games for $70. It may not be the better "sim" but it is indeed the better game.
