Man, I wish NASCAR could actually talk like this to the fans and not spit out the same generic stuff to hope everyone will understand. I feel these 26 minutes have made me understand the Next Gen car way more than before.
Matt, I totally agree… I’ve been a fan for 3 decades and have never heard this kind of technical talk. Not even on SpeedTV. This was AWESOME to hear! I admit I don’t listen to all the podcasts, maybe I should if they discuss this level of detail.
I want Nascar to open up the entire door panel for number placement and let teams work it out with their sponsors as to where the number is and where sponsor logos are on the door panel, give the cars a bit more visual variety.
I absolutely love technical discussion about the car like this. I know it's not for everyone, but as a card nerd, I could listen to drivers, crew chiefs and engineers break down, explain and discuss details of car setup FOREVER. from big platform stuff like body, aero, suspension, and engine to finer details like pedal setup and gearing, so much is covered in this episode, and there's a lot of good info and discussion. more like this going forward please!
Man one thing about the CoT was it was really solid car, you really could beat and rub with that car. Gordon's 2011 Pheonix win stands out big time. Pounded the right side and still went up a took the lead late to win.
You couldn’t race with the COT. It was supposed to neutralize aeropush and all it did was worsen it. It never allowed adjustments. The draft never became effective away from Daytona and Talladega and making the draft work at Charlotte at Pocono etc. is a necessity for the sport.
@@LETSTALKENTERTAINMENT You've got to be kidding me. The cars look and sound so much slower in person at the 550 tracks (Imagine that, slowing the cars down by 25-30 MPH and turning 1000 RPM less is noticeable)
@@LETSTALKENTERTAINMENT with more grip (more downforce with under car aero and wider tires) and the same 550/disgustingly large spoiler it’s going to be just as bad, season one will literally only be interesting because cars may be unstable until they figure it out, once they do it’ll be awful…
Yeah, absolutely no excuse for a 358ci engine to run less than 730hp and 9000rpm on the stroke length and rod ratio that they have. 1.36 to 1.43 lb-ft per cubic inch, or in other words, 83-87 lb-ft per liter, multiplied by however much above 5252 that peak power happens is what the cars should be making, with redline roughly 1000-1500rpm above that. So my numbers stem from the low side of the torque range and a 7900rpm peak power. Keeping the peak the same but going with the torque range's high side, we're talking 770hp. If we raise peak power to 8400 (9600-ish redline), now we're talking 780-820hp at the crank. Still down from the supposed 920hp 2014 cars, but much closer to where we need to be, especially compared to a pathetic 550hp. 550hp should be an entry-series limit for the grassroots short-track guys.
For reference. I’m an HVAC/R tech in Arizona. Attics get to be about 155 in the summer. Within a seconds you are soaking wet in sweat. In 20-30 minutes stuff gets weird. Almost funny. Like everything just makes you want to stop and laugh. It’s from the extreme heat. How these guys RACE in heat like that is crazy. I know adrenaline does crazy miracle type stuff. But 150?!?! That’s HOT!
Thank you, Dale, for asking that question about drivers potentially damaging rear diffusers on purpose, in order to upset the balance of a fellow competitors car. To me, that would be low-hanging fruit to rough up a driver running at Martinsville, Dover, and any other tracks where cars run nose to tail a lot of the time. I am not a fan of the sheer number of changes coming with this Next Gen car, NASCAR used to wisely be slower to change things in cars, in attempt to keep NASCAR cars unique from other auto racing series. The massive number of changes: rear diffusers, single-lug wheels, sequential transmission, no more track bars, etc., are just too many changes to the NASCAR unique car platform. The Next Gen car is almost an IMSA Corvette (before Chevrolet removed what made a Corvette a Corvette with the most recent mid-engine design). At what point do you say, someone is just okaying all of these changes, just so they can put their own stamp of leadership on the series? As a 20-year plus dedicated (watching every single race) fan of NASCAR, I don't like how wholesale the changes have been rolling in lately. Clearly, the rise of IndyCar and IMSA racing has happened for them without the "gimmick" of PLAYOFFS, Stages, and wholesale changes to race schedule dates and racetracks. I'm frustrated just waiting for the next string of Spaghetti NASCAR will fling at the wall next!
I wonder what the rear diffuser is made of, maybe it would destroy the fron bumper. I do agree about the amount of changes, ease it in. I almost have no faith in Nascar recovering especially after the CoT, the chase, stage racing, double lines, running to the line after a wreck.....short tracks and new cars aren't gonna fix anything. They are a lot like the NHRA which is dying due to the fact the cars are all the same and rule changes. No innovation just a scramble to survive. I say bring it back to the 60s and 70s when the little man can afford to race
I've said it elsewhere, but I really do think the cars only having 550hp is a major image problem for the sport. There are a LOT of production street cars now that make considerably more power than that, not to mention that many car enthusiasts (who overlap as motorsports fans) have daily drivers that make a LOT more power than 550. I haven't been a fan of what the 550hp package has produced racing wise either to be honest.
Agreed . I’m not a racecar driver but I like to see the big power engines , 700-800 hp . Even these days that’s still considered low power . 7-800 can be built reliable . Leave the driving in the throttle pedal , lot more finesse when they can light the tires up at 1/2 throttle in a turn
604 crates make 400hp race saver 305 sprint car motors make 500 hp and if you watch them race in person if your not aware of the motors the cars are running it’s very hard to tell the difference , tires , suspension, aero etc. have a came a long way and has proven sometimes more power is not the solution , one thing I’ve learned is lower hp cars are harder to drive fast consistent because you don’t have the extra power to muscle a car around to do certain things were a lower hp car has to be finessed and keep momentum
@@brandon42054 Sprint cars and cars running 604 crate motors are running on dirt tracks that are similar in length to short tracks that Nascar runs high horsepower on. The 550 package that Nascar runs sucks for a multitude of reasons, one of them being that the cars are so dependent on aero now, but 550 hp doesn't allow for cars to muscle through bad air, so passing the leaders is near impossible.
This car makes the old car look like a dinosaur and thats crazy in its own sense. This will be a fun season to watch as the drivers adjust. Kind of a wild card season. I remember the issues just going to fuel injection and the issues the drivers had just restarting the car after a stall. Going to be a fun season!
Hey I’m from Mt. Airy to. It’s good to Eric representing us!! The DaleJr download is the best podcast, UA-cam, NBCSN show across the board!! It’s fun to watch DaleJr and Mike really dig deep and get the scoop on what was really going on back in the day with owners, crew chiefs and drivers!! I also love the technical side, the advantage’s the innovation’s that teams dreamed up to go win races. I love the drivers stories past and present.
The gen 6 car was a legend. Consistently shattered speed records in qualifying really glad for the single lugnut safer. 2 many loose wheels every race Harvick had loose wheels.
No kidding. If they miss the lug nut this year, into the wall or another car you go. But at least like you said, no lore penalties or fines for loose lug nuts because you won't finish the race anyway most likely.
@@IanTheMotorsportsMan_YT yeah I don't get the issues with the new car. I mean can't they take what made that car not have the heating and apply that to the new car. That should be something that they could fix pretty easily. I don't understand that why that is an issue, but I'm not and engineer on the cars either, so I don't know.
@@vincentodomscatl24 it may not be quite that simple. What may have worked for the gen 6 might be heavily detrimental to the next gen. Teams will have some things to work out and I don't think we'll see the true potential of the new car until much later in the year as R&D catches up and teams figure it out with experience in the car and working on the car.
Seeing these cars makes me miss the older cars so much more!!They’re making these cars easier to handle and way to much technology in them lol just go back old school lol
Favorite Podcast so far Jr.. I love these technical talks Feels like Inside Baseball. Like giving us fans a window into details we would never know othwrwise
I wanted to hear some feedback from Austin about the new 18 inch tire. How does it feel at or near the breakaway in traction? Dale Jr. mentioned this a few days ago, said it might be like the switch from bias-ply to radial tires in early 90s
It doesn’t seem like they’ve done enough 1.5 mile testing with multiple cars on track. We had that 1 test with Truex and Kurt then never heard anything after that
For a few minutes I thought he was saying"road blocks" not rub blocks. I was thinking wtf are they doing have to drive around with road blocks at Daytona lol
I’m so glad that the Gen 6 is finally dead. But idk how I feel about the Gen 7 since NASCAR keeps taking away more horsepowers for ”entertainment purposes”
This is the first time ive been excited about something in NASCAR since about the same time the last Thunderbird went to a Taurus body 😂 Might end up being underwhelming, but if not for this shake up I may never have come back to watching races.
Best discussion of the new car yet, thank you all for presenting this! I'm excited for the new car, looking to see how it progresses during the '22 season.
Not hyped on the number placement but its nice seein somethin new, next years gonna be crazy for sure. All i know is is that im super excited for the inboards from all the road courses
The car is cool and I think a good evolution for NASCAR, but the car number placement is just ugly and a cash grab, and the one lug tires just take the fun out of pit road. Lots of excitement but also lots of regression too.
The single lug nut is apparently safer and more effective with the new wheels they're switching to. The number placement is absolutely a cash grab, but at least Nascar has been honest about that.
@@tomcurran860 how is it safer? One or two lugs come loose, the others hold it on until you can limp back to the pits. Now when the one lug comes loose, you’re going in the fence!
Number placement is a product of the times. If teams could afford to run with 1 sponsor like they used to this wouldn't be an option but sadly they now need 3-4 which requires space
I watched the 1986 Miller High life 400 at Richmond fairgrounds and thoroughly enjoyed it. It showed me how much nascar has failed to keep races worth watching and why they have lost 75% or more of their viewers. The main thing I noticed was the personality's of the driver's and how much it's changed from real men to little silver spooned boys with no personality's. Jimmy Johnson was one of the worst things to ever happen to nascar, people didn't like him, and the next thing you see is 40 Jimmy Johnson's out there and NO Dale Earnhardt SR's or Darrel Waltrip's left. These men worked their way up from dirt track's and paid their dues and put on a show worth watching unlike modern day bland e-racer's that cut their teeth on a computer!
I agree with the premise of your comment but I actually liked JJ in the end. The key is in the end. The Dale Sr we all know and love was older and more mature when he became the face of NASCAR. Its the same thing now with the Busch brothers. I still hate Kyle, but Kurt is starting to come around to where I actually dont mind him at all, even in broadcast. But still totally agree as a whole NASCAR has made horrible decisions and alienated the fans it had to try and gain more from other sources, which has mostly failed. And we do seem to be in a rut where most of the current drivers are a bunch of young kids with no respect and a lot of learning and growing up to be had. Probably because theyve made the sport so damn expensive, both to watch and to participate in.
I think this comment is essentially 5-10 years out of date. It was valid for a while but there's a new generation of drivers who are winning and showing their personalities, and a lot of them cut teeth at lower levels and earned their way up.
@@vercingetorix444 I still think a lot has to do with the fact that the younger drivers just havnt had enough time to grow up. Give it time and they will come around, hell many of them are early twenties. I dont know about you but I wasnt exactly the most mature person at 20 years old
NASCAR is 4 or 5 times more popular now than it ever was in the 80s. That’s reality, not opinion. Whether you like it or not (myself, not so much these days) is another question.
Everyone loved the idea of the car of tomorrow till they actually raced it. A lot of this car sounds more cute then practical. Will it make racing better?
I still don't understand why they don't use stock production bodies instead of saying, "man this almost looks identical to a stock body." Seems like that would cut costs even more. Carbon fiber bodies are nice, but that can't be low cost.
Spec cars make winning races more expensive, because getting around the rules into the winners circle is harder. The teams with resources will figure it out and the other teams will be left behind. Someone has probably already duplicated the seal tools so they can take them off and put them back on.
@@jarrod1766 My experience would suggest otherwise. For the teams willing to run mid-pack, there may be some cost savings. For the teams that want to be out front, they have a budget, and they are going to use it. They will not settle for "luck of the draw" The whole reason Indy Car fell apart was because of USAC controlling the waste gates for the Indy 500. ( a spec part) The drivers and teams splintered off and created their own champ car series-es and Indy went to poo.
I feel sorry for drivers like CBell, Reddick, and Custer. Their rookie and sophomore season they had no practice and qualifying. They had to learn on race day and by the time they got a "hang" of it they're in a different generation car.
This definitely reminds me when I met Dale at camp atterbury a few years ago. I told him don’t eat the mre before the brickyard they fight back. He laughed and I almost got the courage to ask him if I can drive for him one day 🤣 just such a down to earth guy.
Next year is going to be big for motorsports. Dirt track racing getting the Million at eldora , F1 with new more competitive cars, and as well as nascar. Happy to see the mix of road courses mixed in for next year too to see how racing is gonna be with the next gen car
Hopefully the composite body panels don't cut tires so easy. It sucks when 2 guys are racin' hard, bumpin' and bangin', and one gets a blowout and hits the wall, or a flat and loses a lap.
I’m trying to be a fan, but it’s not the same. Used to go to the track on Tuesday and leave on Monday. Practice, qualifying and the race on Sunday. The Fan Zone isn’t what it was. Now I’ll see the highlights on UA-cam
Fun fact, the fastest speed put up yesterday, at the Charlotte NextGen test with the 7” spoiler, was right at the pole speeds of Davey Allison and Dale Earnhardt at the 600 in 1991 and 92. 😎
To the old school nas-fans Nas-Corp. is like tuning in to an ATT meeting.. Execs. at nascar sending memos to the employees.. soon they will all wear gray uniforms and march to their cars in unison.
@@Dreway No you don’t it was all about speed and areo. They can put nets up and protect the driver. They ran like that for years and with bigger motors and faster speeds.
@@sergeantmasson3669 Nope speed reasons only. You name one time other than a wreck anything came in and hit or killed a driver? Never. It was all about speed and down force that’s all.
Pretty cool discussion. I look forward to these real, honest, unfiltered, unrestricted interviews. Especially when the topic is this new experiment of a car.
One things for sure its going to be different, the question is will it be better. The cars look weird to me from the side I'm not sure why that is maybe a smaller body on the same wheelbase. Maybe the number placement. Maybe because they moved the trans to the rear of the car. Its funny if you go back and look at the pic's from the 40's and 50's front fender numbers were kinda thing back then.
Engine updates needed ASAP. Now that Chevy has a Flat plane DOHC offering, it's time for a Flat plane Coyote (from the GT350/R) vs upcoming flat plane LT6 (C8 Z06) in NASCAR. STOCK cars need to be MORE based on STOCK CARS.
Still say gen 4 shoulda been kept with the COT safety additions and been left alone racing was so much better may not have resembled oem’s but racing was the best
Biggest foul against the new package is the horsepower limits. Been saying it for years, except for the "restrictor" tracks, give them all they can get and LET THEM DRIVE IT.
I agree. Jr said that when exiting the corner the tires just grip. The old cars it was a challenge to control the throttle. Old school american racing is about high horsepower.
did they try the shielding that is placed between the exhaust and body in passenger cars? the cats would really heat up the floors and when they added the steel heat shield to the underside of the floor, it kept the heat away and DO NOT weigh very much. 1 lb or less per sheet.
The number 3 takes any old school Nascar fans back in the days when Dale Earnhardt Sr. was alive and very popular back in the day. R.I.P. to the intimidator.
I’m so excited to get this new chapter started!!!! Really wish they would have used the old car for the clash though, pretty sure they are not gonna want to tear up new cars. Especially if they don’t have A ton of them just waiting at the shop.
After 4 races the ride height and horsepower have been a huge positive in creating good racing! I hate the wheels and low profile tire because it doesn't allow for the drivers to hang the car out and absolutely get rid of that damn diffuser
That’s was good info. No other sport faces this kinda stuff with technological advancements in cars. The basic components of ball sports never change. They do t have to come up with a new football every ten years.
Yeh, like golf never changes, uh, well, and skiing never changes, and tennis, still using wooden rackets, and hockey only has new skates, sticks, pads and head/face wear... The only sports that don't change equipment are baseball and basketball, every other sport has huge tech changes from year to year. Maybe track and field too, but then again shoes... Maybe you should rethink your premise.
Their was one thing that was not covered, was the engine. What amount of horsepower is going to be in that car and what tracks are going to get it. And, obviously it's going to be the same for everyone, but is there any adjustments that you can make. I think also that the gearing in the rear end is going make a tremendous difference on how that car handles.
"It's a tight box" Show up at the track, pick a car from the lot. throw a seat in, number on the side, pick the weeks over the wall crew by lottery and go racing. I hope I'm wrong on where I'm imagining this is going.
Wonder what Dale Sr would of thought about the new ride . Would of loved to see him driving it and beating on other drivers would be the ultimate test but I digress … we will just have to wait and see. We need to see some “iron head” drivers knocking the back door / fenders off
Dale Jr, this is for you buddy, up to your driving the next gen car at Bowman Grey stadium, you had constantly railed against all of the built in downforce in the new car, saying that all of the downforce should be be taken out of the car, even saying they should have "negative downforce" what changed your mind, did the @NASCAR Politboro politely tell you that it's time for you to "get onboard" with the new car? I know that's happened with other critics in the past.
So tried I'm so sick n tired of seeing how people actually feel and nascar coming down on them. As if they're going for something they don't want us to know about
I wonder about the strength of the front suspension. During the LA event and at Daytona seems cars had suspension arm or uprights break when the old car would have survived.
Adding paddles on the wheel for shifting. That's the setup I have on iracing and it frustrates the hell out of me trying to find the gear I need when the wheel has been turned 180 degs. like after a spin. Perhaps real cars have them mounted to the steering column or, one paddle for shifting, forward for reverse, back for 1st gear and so on.
Screw these custom race cars. Make the MFGs start racing their real cars they try to sell us. I wanna see Mustangs, Camaros, and some Camrys out there! Then, we'll see how good their products really are.
Driver, "I can't run into anybody". Owner, "Good. This is a race, not a demo derby". I'm soooo happy nascar is moving towards taking "racing" out of the pits and put it back on the track where it belongs. It will save the teams millions of dollars and make the on-track racing more competitive.
Plus in this video there is a lot of questions that makes everyone think that maybe the car is not ready yet because it's good to be able to not worry about the dirty air but there are more concerns about this car like the aero and other little details that might be a issue in the near future
When would you be taking the next gen car to the rock? Alot has been going on out there as of late. Would be great to see the new car at speedway speeds
I cant wait to see these new cars and to see the difference for the drivers, pit crews and teams. Pretty damn exciting to me. The cars look cool as hell.
Interesting about put road and neutral. Now it's like a motorcycle with the sequential Trans. Like bikes, grab the clutch glide and shift into neutral once stepped
Really simple fix for some of the heat.... move the goddamn exhaust from the driver side.... I'm dumbfounded as to why they would run exhaust near the driver in the rocker panel
The one thing I saw that is concerning to me is how far the safety catch on the wheel nut sticks out. I watch a lot of the Australian Supercars series and when they start rubbing doors it will damage that safety catch and mushroom the head causing the wheel nut not being able to come off.
All of this is great but why cant we just go back to our roots? Why cant we require that ALL cars must be built from an existing factory frame and body? Isnt that where the series started? Not only is this not a "Stock Car" its a purpose-built race car with a shell on it. No different than what we have been doing for decades. Its an honest question. I can only speak for myself but I would find the series more interesting if things went back to the roots. The Enginuity involved would be fascinating. I also find it hard to believe that it would be more expensive. Id love to hear someone with Cup racing experience explain this.
In the 90s, manufacturers moved to FWD, V6, automatics. NASCAR had a choice to make. They could either change to FWD, V6, automatics, or they could keep the 60s tech and make pretend the Lumina and Taurus were RWD, V8, manual transmissions. They decide to go with the illusion and stock car racing on the national scale was dead, replaced by spec racers and spoiled rich drivers.
NASCAR race cars USE to have to fit the templates of factory showroom cars(Monte Carlo, Thunderbird, Lumina, etc) Now they look like cookie cutter boxes, just like cars on the street. They have no personalities anymore. They need to go back more to there roots, when they actually had fans that attended, and watched racing. Moving the number, and eliminating the contingency decals from the front fenders is another big step backwards to, in my opinion. They don’t even look like a traditional STOCK CAR anymore. I haven’t watched, or attended a race for years(had 12 season tickets at Dover for over 20 years) and probably still won’t. With the stupid rule changes, the cars, changing tracks, and lack GOOD racing, good luck NASCAR!!!
Used to be the factory cars going down the road there was no question to whether it was a t-bird, monte carlo or oldsmobile either. Today see a factory car going down the road you almost need to look at the badging on many of them to really know what kind of car it is. Why would you expect Nascar to be much different?
@@billwiley7216 - So true. Gone are the days that designers actually DESIGNED something. There’s no creativity among auto designers anymore, just subtle differences. There’s very few car companies that set themselves apart from others.
I thought at first this was going to end Nascar but the more I see this car and hear about it I like it. It reminds me of Trans Am cars should be interesting
Glad to see they finally addressed the elephant in the room. "Dont touch my car" racing that we had the last 4 or 5 years maybe coming to an end. Will be good for ratings if thats the case.
My worries: it’s a composite body with independent suspension all the way around. On v8 Supercars they rip a-arms off any of the 4 corners regularly with contact current and former generations of cars could largely absorb.
I wonder if with the single lug nuts they will have faster pit stops because they still have to fuel the car and they are usually still doing that when they pit after a long run and are almost out of gas. So if they finish the tires changes faster will they still have to wait on certain stops like I said when they need to fill the tank up when it's almost empty. On short runs I'm sure it won't be an issue, but on long runs son cars my not get filled up all the way if they try to get out a little quicker and if they have a long run to the end we may see more cars run out of fuel.
They should financially figure a way to bring testing back. To hop in a car and start racing at these speeds with no idea what kind of feedback you are going to get at speed is kind of crazy.
I'm getting very excited yet terrified to see this new car, especially at the big tracks with bumping. I feel the 2 car tandem is coming back, hopefully 🙏

A lot of the drivers aren't fans of the 550 package either, but Nascar has a habit of taking what the drivers want and doing the opposite.
Agreed . I’m not a racecar driver but I like to see the big power engines , 700-800 hp . Even these days that’s still considered low power . 7-800 can be built reliable . Leave the driving in the throttle pedal , lot more finesse when they can light the tires up at 1/2 throttle in a turn
Dude I 100% agree part of the appeal is that these cars are gnarlier than what anyone can handle. Plus that high rpm sounds so much better
As an old-timer, I remember when the "Next Gen" car meant your 1962 Impala ended up with a different fin! :-)
Lol, so true ! 😂
This car makes the old car look like a dinosaur and thats crazy in its own sense. This will be a fun season to watch as the drivers adjust. Kind of a wild card season.
2013, 2014, and 2016 were the best years of the Gen 6. It had potential, tbh

Wider thinner tires heat up faster and are naturally more grippy. So I have a feeling that will take a bit of work

The lugnut change was for safety reasons tbf
@@tomcurran860 how is it safer? One or two lugs come loose, the others hold it on until you can limp back to the pits. Now when the one lug comes loose, you’re going in the fence!
Number placement is a product of the times. If teams could afford to run with 1 sponsor like they used to this wouldn't be an option but sadly they now need 3-4 which requires space
@@Jwal98 if I remember right NASCAR had issues with doing five lugs and the structure of the wheel and tire so they went to center-lock.
I dont know about you but I wasnt exactly the most mature person at 20 years old
Completely true
NASCAR is 4 or 5 times more popular now than it ever was in the 80s. That’s reality, not opinion. Whether you like it or not (myself, not so much these days) is another question.
Everyone loved the idea of the car of tomorrow till they actually raced it. A lot of this car sounds more cute then practical. Will it make racing better?
COT cars were eventually proven to be a huge mistake. Without spoilers, and added-on ground effects, COT cars were aerodynamic crap.

@@13Mizzou Power isn't much different than the Gen-6 cars. Gen-7 cars are 200 pounds less weight.
Given the many spec series around the world this is demonstrably false
Which brings everyone else down to their experience level with the car. Talk about good luck lol
Nascar needs to put working headlights an tail lights on these cars for road course the Cota race is a great example!
At least brake lights, and functional wipers would be nice also.

I like the single wheel nut. Pit stops won't take so damn long, or be such a time penalty when ya need one. Guys with a flat might not lose a lap.
Nascar said the pit stops will only be a tiny bit faster, due to having to hold on that nut longer to make sure it's tight.
I think if they put the exhaust on the right side instead to keep the heat off the drivers.
I can't remember the last time tech moved forward this quickly in NASCAR. They're almost at mid-90's touring car levels now.
Still say gen 4 shoulda been kept with the COT safety additions and been left alone racing was so much better may not have resembled oem’s but racing was the best
Definitely need to change the wheels. There has to be a wheel they can make that looks like the last gen with a center lug.
Hey, I noticed that there pinball machine in the back ain't plugged in.
did they try the shielding that is placed between the exhaust and body in passenger cars? the cats would really heat up the floors and when they added the steel heat shield to the underside of the floor, it kept the heat away and DO NOT weigh very much.

@@AstroJoeVino He's right, most sports have a lot of changes going on. They just don't talk about them like nascar does.

Dr. Eric Warren is super interesting and knowledgeable. Great guest.
"It's a tight box" Show up at the track, pick a car from the lot. throw a seat in, number on the side, pick the weeks over the wall crew by lottery and go racing. I hope I'm wrong on where I'm imagining this is going.

Adding paddles on the wheel for shifting. That's the setup I have on iracing and it frustrates the hell out of me trying to find the gear I need when the wheel has been turned 180 degs. like after a spin. Curious as to what they found out this past weekend here in Phoenix. Wish I was able to go check the testing out
The one thing I saw that is concerning to me is how far the safety catch on the wheel nut sticks out. I watch a lot of the Australian Supercars series and when they start rubbing doors it will damage that safety catch and mushroom the head causing the wheel nut not being able to come off.
Any chance in just removing the passenger side window for more air flow? Seems logical.

@@toyotaecw yea good observation. That will be a vulnerability. I'm hoping they can at least go back to low g door bumps without cutting tires.
THANKS DALE AND ALL THIS UPDATE IS FULLFILLING!!!
Yes, the stops are gonna be about the same as this year due to the same fueling process
