    Gosh this song is so dynamic! Playing Mark's tunes in this format reveals a lot of the groove and dynamics, like Romeo & Juliet. You hear the studio version and is amazing, but you hear it like this and you get a better idea of why it is so.

    The sax riff it's amazing, but I also pay atention to the harmony behind it. Good song and lesson.

      Thank you. Yes, the harmony to me is sometimes even more important than flashy solos!

    Wanted to play it in a higher key, and wanted to find a "simple" way to play it (as many open chords as possible).
    I like to play it with capo on 2nd, stating in the Em shape. Just going to write the shapes I play, not taking capo in to account.
    Intro/Chorus:
    | Em [0220000] C [x32010] || Dsus2 [xx0230] Dsus2/C [x30230] |
    | Bm7 [x24232] x2 || Cmaj7 [x35453] x2 |
    | A [x02220] A/C# [x42220] || Dsus2 Dsus2/C |
    | B7 [x24242] x2 || Cmaj7 B7 |
    Verse:
    | G [320003] x2 || G Am7 [x02010] |
    | Dsus2 Em7 [022030] || Dsus2/F# [2x0230] E/G# [4x6400] |
    | Am x2 || Am x2 |
    |F9 [103243]x2 ||F9 or[x87888] x2 |
    Pre chorus:
    |C x2 || Dsus2 Dsus2/C |
    | Bm7 x2 || Cadd9 [x32033] C' [x32013] |
    |G x2 || Em7/B [x20000] C |
    |Dsus2 Em7 || Dsus2/F# B7' [x21202] |
    Not sure about the last B7, but it sounds ok... ish... A lot easier to play this way, and sounds fine, to me :)

    Очень круто, Павел, большое спасибо за такой классный и фанатский разбор!
    Пара мелких идей:
    -- Хитрый аккорд F#m9b5 как вариант -- 2x(2)214, 6 струна большим пальцем, 4 струну по возможности зажимать 2 пальцем вместе с 3 струной.
    -- Когда идёт ход B -> B/A, то для меньших телодвижений можно B сыграть в G-аппликатуре, то есть ход будет выглядеть как 7x444x -> 5x444x (мне показалось, в видео со вторым соло Марк как-то так и играет).

    Wow I just found this. Man, that's great. I've always absolutely loved this album. I received the album as a gift for my 12th birthday on March 15, 1986. At the time, I paid attention to the first 3 songs. Then, not long after, I started listening to the whole album and it is a masterpiece.
    I still own that very cassette tape I got in 1986. It's almost 36 years ago. I think the album was released in 1985??
    Anyway, again, nice playing. Cheers from Miramichi.

    Great, another great lesson with precious tips. I could not help but notice the sequence (LOG, PD and now, YLT), both have something in common, the contruction of it reveal a greater complexity in chords in relation to the songs between 78/80, bring something even more refined. Anyway ... this is the richness of Knopfler's work. Congratulations again, your work is quite learned, because it is an x-ray of each song.
    A hug from Brazil!

    • @PavelFomenkov
      @PavelFomenkov  5 років тому

      Thanks! I have an electric guitar, but for the sake of simplicity I record all my lessons on acoustic, because you - hear everything as clear as possible and I - don't need to mess with a lot of equipment. Just set up three microphones, one for the voice and two for guitars and do it.

    • @patlesage1256
      @patlesage1256 5 років тому

      Yes you're right, the sound of your guitar and your voice are perfect, it's really comfortable to learn and to understand all you explain...more you speak slowly...I' m always impressed by the Mark 's compositions, he always mix simple chords, with some chords really jazzy here...and the result is just spectacular...Mark is a great solo player but a really awsome composer and his knoweldge of chords theory is really without bounderies...Thanx again Pavel and I hope you ll continue to make good videos like these on line ! ;-)

    • @PavelFomenkov
      @PavelFomenkov  3 роки тому +1

      I think any study of chords will do, I never read any books on music theory, and don't have the professional knowledge of it, just the basics. And it's the basics that are the most interesting to learn, just how the chord is constructed. All those additional steps, symbols, names.

    @fernandodelvecchio6549 4 роки тому

    There are only two chords in the 6th compass on the Verse (that you put a E & F#m) were I’m hearing E/G# and A...I know they are pretty similar E with a major 3rd on the bass and A is the major relative to F#m...please hear it again and correct me if I’m wrong. 😉

    • @PavelFomenkov
      @PavelFomenkov  4 роки тому +1

      Absolutely... Right away I say it's a piano song, that means voicings AND chords go all over the place. It can be E/G# and A indeed, because the chords are so similar to E and F#m, the piano (or keyboards) makes this similarity extremely hard to pinpoint, so the result is different chords. The same story with all the classic mostly keyboard songs, they can be played in a lot of ways.
