Surprised there was no mention of the “catalog “ where you would unlock rewards like Coin bonuses, pro club items, career mode items by just playing the game. Doesn’t sound that amazing on the surface, but the best part was if you were level 40 on the previous game…it would transfer to the new game. So you would start the new game with all kinds of goodies. It felt like almost a thank you to the consumer for playing the previous game. That’s long gone now and some might argue we still get the same stuff, difference now tho is they decide how and when you get it or even have a chance to get it
You basically had the same level on every Fifa game. Fifa 12, 13, 14... 17... and so on. You could go back to Fifa 12 to level up and you would have the same level on fifa 17
So true mate. 12-15 was the absolute best, 16 was worse but we had hopes for 17. Then 17 came around and it was dissapointing, but it was still kind of fun. 18 rolled around and we realized EA doesn't care about what we want. 19 started pushing more and more micro transactions to survive in UT and in fifa 20 it was the first year I didn't have a team on UT. I just played seasons, and then never bought another fifa again. Kind of sad honestly..

Think it would have been worth mentioning that Fifa 14 was the first mobile version that was free, which I expected to be absolutely massive for EA. I was in middle school at the time and our group of friends had daily conversations on what others did to their team the night before. Infinite fun and excitement when bidding for an 83-rated player, packing the rare 85-rated player and giving a friend the side eye when they packed someone 87-rated. Ratings actually meant something, now it's bloated like college GPA.
Also, 16:35 fifa 18 career mode was SO GOOD and unique. furthermore, as you said, the World Cup gamemode was incredibly joyful and nostlagic. i never enjoyed almost any fifa so much, and i loved my Anderson Talisca's long shot hahaa
2 things you forgot to mention! The first Ultimate Team you would create a player and build around your created player. And 2nd was that you had training items that would give perma stat boosts to players, so the most OP and wanted players on fifa forums were.... Peter Crouch and Nikola Zigic
What killed it for me was the release of promo cards every week. Before, you could actually skip playing the game for a while, return, and your team would still be competitive if you had top players. If you packed an icon, you knew you could enjoy him for the whole game. Now if you don't play a month your team is obsolete.

I was a FUT Founder in 09 played every year and I miss the look, I hate how the 'cards' don't even look like cards. Also the menu's were easy maybe 24 is too old to understand menu's of today. I wish they didn't have to shut the servers down at least so I could see what my teams were back when I was a kid. I also love how people hate women being in UT and they say they should have their own mode but it's 'Ultimate Team' I remember the old intro's were calling for you to mash your team up, but even I just go with a straight prem / single league team. Now I at least sprinkle in some of the Arsenal girls so now I have a Arsenal team of men and women my true ultimate team. Really good video thought this would miss having to pay for the original FUT I even forgot about the UCL one prior to 09, I wish I could just see my teams from back then and maybe play an offline game with them

Fr, there is no point on playing rivals after the victories, seasons you would make your 10 max games and get the coins, you knew if you won enough games you'd climb or win division and get a good amount of coins so you actually played to make coins and grind to create your ultimate team that would usable from january to the end of the game cycle.
as for me, i always enjoyd fifa from the concept of rpg, you start with nothing, slowly enhancing your team, building it up as you want, and tthats by playing fun game modes. it took pretty much time to make your team great, and that's what i liked. by now, EA totally killed this feel, gameplay is no more fun, you can get top team by 20-30 hours of gameplay, while player cards are totaly worthless due to tons of events, which are noone interested in. Good job, EA, you would better actually do nothing with the game (what you are sued for) since like, fifa 17-18, because all you do by now is ruining game, making it more and more simple and mobile-like
FIFA 09 didn’t have divisions only tournaments and single match online. Also didn’t speak to the collection, training players/coaches, contracts with expiring players. FIFA 09 made ea realize demand was there for gambling and got rid of collections and trainings as those were means to get better players without paying for them.

The updated squads and slight change in gameplay are enough for me to buy the game each year. However, I’m so glad I didn’t open FUT in fc24 even once.
It is crazy how awfully executed the minor changes were since FIFA 19. Like the chemistry, felt like something different but 2 years later I hate it. The old chemistry system felt more rewarding. Wild how EA stopped caring right in front of everyone, everyone was seeing the downfall of FIFA by FIFA 20, but 5 years later & nothing has changed. Not even like FIFA 16 days does the new iteration has different UI, graphics. Everything looks and plays the same
The removal of the old division system was for me the biggest decline. The old system was perfect. Instant reward, being able to play as much as you want. You never had stress about winning 6 games in a day, and you were actually able to go up and down in divisions. Making everyone decrease 2 divisions just makes every casual player in the wrong division which makes the division system obsolete.
I will maintain that price ranges were ultimately a good thing. Introducing them in the middle of FIFA 15 was bad, but they did essentially kill coin sellers and end the massive inflation they caused

Here's the issue with the minecraft comparison though...yes like Fifa Minecraft has kept it graphics and mechanics the same throughout...but the difference is that you don't have to fork out like 50-60 quid to essentially pay for the same game like you do with Fifa, Minecraft is a one time buy game. But Fifa charge you ridiculous amounts to just to buy the same game with a different cover on it. EA have shown their true colours over the years, in Fifa 14 in the good old days they added a world cup mode where pack weight wasn't an issue and you could pack the best players if you played enough and build an unbelievable team without spending anything...notice how they don't ever do anything like that anymore?...thats because their corporation is run by people who care only for the producer interest and not the consumer interest...but why do they get away with it? Because EAFC is the monopoly of the footballing game world...yeah you have E football but...its just not that great. So unfortunately EA will continue to make more money, get people to spend 1000s of pounds on Fifa points...and then make it all irrelevant with a new game costing 70 pounds each year
