But the question I want to know that they didn’t ask (or maybe they edited it out) is how much would they be worth IF it was signed by John Adams? Is that where the huge difference between asking price and appraisal comes in to play? Or was that lady just shooting for the moon? Makes me also wonder what she paid for them. And was she now gonna try to sell them to someone pretending she didn’t know that it wasn’t actually signed by Adams.

applying hand cream or licking fingers before handling documents. We believe that the
disadvantages of wearing gloves outweigh the advantages:
Different museums have different policies. A common view is that gloved hands make it more difficult to hold and manipulate old books and papers carefully, and actually increases the risk of damage. But bare hands must be squeaky clean and dry.' What drive me nuts about some of the things I see on Pawn Stars, however, is you see sellers, and even the experts sometimes touching the printed area of a page or even touching inked writing. Certain areas of a page or book can be touched, but others never should. As a collector of old books, charts, prints, photographs, etc. myself (some being late 1500s) I usually do not use gloves, but do so for certain items in my collection. Also using archival materials for handling and storage is a must. I store my individual leaves between oversized archival tissue, and usually handle the tissue rather than the leaf - unless I need to turn it over.

Gloves are not always necessary, and sometimes can cause more damage than they prevent.
Besides, I think if she collects rare books, I think she knows how to handle books far better than you.
