I wouldn’t say totally delusional. It’s not like he has a huge quantity of this kind of item to reference his asking price off, and it’s better to start higher and come down then it is to have to climb up from a low price.

The best reaction from a isappointing outcome I've seen on Pawn Stars. This letter is worth more in the actual hands of the younger generations than 8 $100 bills.
Got to say, genuinely surprised that an actual signed letter from FDR was appraised for that low a price. This is one time where the seller was right to keep the item and politely walk away from Rick's offer.

Amazing how Rick’s “friends” always seem to under-value the items after he learns what the seller wants.

There are some items that are priced higher, you havent watched enough pawnstars
Also, it’s reality TV.. if anything was shot in the order you see it in the end product it would be somewhat amazing. Obviously some sequences are in order (you won’t get the expert before the item is scheduled to appear unless an experts schedule required it, and that’s right aside from a few exceptions these are scheduled appearances). The talking heads, the shots where they are just staring into the camera are all shot together when possible.. so when it cuts away to Rick saying, “if the price is right I can’t wait to make a deal” (or whatnot) are shot at a different time.
I don’t disagree with you that there is some shady stuff that happens with certain items. Not just Rick, but anyone in business to resell an item would not pay someone the same price that their “appraiser” tells them an item retails price. I’m just saying the premise that because I saw it in this order on TV that’s how it happened while shooting on the day is fundamentally flawed if you have an understanding of how these shows are made. It’s definitely made to make you believe it’s happening in real time, and with no experience in production, or research into production methods it can be deceiving.
