All is right with the world when Rick Wakeman is playing the piano.
Exactly what I feel ! Greetings from Brasil 🙂
Saw him play piano in Collingswood NJ last night from about 15 feet. Was an out of body experience. Do wish he had played this one. I just hope my 13 yr old looks back 20 years from now and realizes that he was in the presence of a true musical virtuoso.
Did u mean "AI is right" when wakeman is tickling the ivories ;-)

My childhoood without Rick Wakeman & Yes would be unthinkable.
I had the pleasure of meeting Rick back in 1975/76. Super nice gentleman.
I met him too at a restaurant I bartended at in Los Angeles; so great an artist and human being and yet so humble and approachable.
I have been listening to Cat Stevens and Rick Wakeman from Yes and his solo projects since the 1970s, but I never knew Wakeman played that piano part until recently. I am mind-blown.
Likewise!
I find it difficult to believe you could hear this and not want to know who played it. I wanted to know and found out straightaway.
Rick Wakeman is a national treasure.
No. He is an universal treasure.
Which nation?

International
@@Daneel56 One of the best answers ever on the UA-cam!!
I was 7yrs old when i first heard Morning Has broken back in 72. My uncle had bought the 45" vinyl record and I played it until i wore it out. I always thought Cat Stevens had played the piano, but learned it was Rick. I'm glad to hear he finally got paid for his session.
This shows the Mandela Effect (false memory) in operation. I was *sure* that whenever we sang Morning Has Broken at primary school in 1968-70, it was with the Rick Wakeman intro/chords/embellishments. But it can't have been since he didn't compose/play them until 1972 ;-)
I was 7 in 72 also when I heard this on the radio. Same as you, years later I learned it was Rick on the piano. This song is a piece of my musical soul.
Trust me: This iconic piano introduction is nowhere near as easy as Rick Wakeman makes it seem. He's a keyboard genius for the ages.
So lovely! I sent someone a card with the words of the 1st verse on it and they asked about the song. I knew it was a Christian hymn and this led to research. The words are from Eleanor Fargjeon in the 1930s and the tune a Gaelic one called Bunessan. The hymn was only 45 seconds long, and Stevens needed it to be longer. He heard Rick Wakeman in a nearby recording booth, playing what became Catherine Howard for Six Wives of Henry VIII. Stevens asked to use parts of that, but Wakeman's album was not all the way written. Wakeman did develop the hymn to be longer though. So we got Cat Stevens' lovely song. But I never heard this gorgeous version of Wakeman's. I'm a big fan of 6 Wives, like many a hippie, baby boomer, I played it at my late husband's celebration of life service. Thanks Rick for a beautiful album and your great talent!
Thank you for sharing this revealing story, that's a lot of news to me!
Fascinating! merci for sharing!
Superb. He never got the recognition he deserved for his part in this Cat Stevens hit.
Whenever we sang Morning Has Broken in assembly at school (1970s) it was always with the Rick Wakeman intro/chords. I was surprised to learn that Rick Wakeman had written them, because I'd always thought that the whole arrangement (including chords and embellishments) was part of the traditional music for the hymn, and that the only original part was Cat Stevens' singing.
There are piano players and they are musicians this guy is a musician who happens to play the piano amazingly well
I used to tell people that Wakeman could be a 'classical' pianist back when he was key man for Yes. Most of them llooked like they half believed me.
The part I always loved about this song was the keyboard melody...only many years later did I find out that it was Rick playing it!!
Genius...best describes Rick Wakeman
I am so lucky to have lived at the same time as the incomparable Rick Wakeman!
👏👏👏👏🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩
This piece gives me some peace of mind in these most turbulent times. Thank you Rick.
Im going on Saturday to o Rick Wakeman in concert in Portsmouth, i cant wait
Gave me goosebumps when I first heard it back in the early 70's as a young kid....still gives me goosebumps at age 56.
Me too.. Morning has broken, like the first morning..praise for the singing, praise for the morning. Praise for them springing. Fresh from the world.... Thanks. Greetings from Russia.

This man is an absolute genius, and all the rest of us are in awe of his beautiful talent! Thank you, Mister Wakeman, for enriching our lives! You make this world a better place, sir.
No one and I mean no one plays this like Rick Wakeman.
...because he wrote it. Cool video of him talking about it ua-cam.com/video/R7ZwQfK0jQw/v-deo.htmlsi=d2NtXMqyddlSCJKW

A brilliant musician, a stunning pianist, an excellent composer and also a very modest man when he talks of his amazing musical talents.
Wakeman is a brilliant pianist.
And then there are his full compositions -
Myths & Legends of King Arthur, Six Wives of Henry VIII, Journey to the Center of the Earth - all masterpieces.
This man is a genius.
Many of us were fortunate to have lived those 70s also with Moody Blues and ELP.
He makes it look effortless.
It clearly isn't.
A true master.
It only just occurred to me that all the trills and ornaments are a musical representation of the dawn chorus, of *birds singing*. 😲
The way he plays reminds me of the piano genius Wilhelm Kempf who was effortless playing Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata third movement.
Totally calm on the surface, fingers moving at a million miles an hour…

A classically trained musician. Outstanding.
When I was much younger, I saw Yes. I'm 68 & would still love to go listen to him play
I've been playing for 57 years. No formal training at all. Learned a lot from trying to emulate Mr. Wakeman. Was only fortunate enough to see him live twice with YES at the forum in LA. Once worth Donavan and once on the Union tour! He's one of my idols!
God! I wish I could sit down at a piano and do this. It's great.
That piece Rick played .... moved my soul. I have just a handful of piano pieces in my favorite file. That is surely one of them.
Today is his birthday. So glad that he's still with us, and that he still plays like he's 25 years old. ❤️
Anna Maria Delgado he's very good, however he's not as good as when he was on his 20s
I am in tears! I love this hymn. Rick could not play this full arrangement during the recording Cat Steven’s did because of the limits placed by the producer to showcase the singing (which was a brilliant move for that recording). To hear his whole interpretation is sublime!
One can certainly hear Mr. Wakeman's classical training. Beautiful musicianship!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, RICK!
And Rick Wakeman said ;
Yes!😊👍🏼
The master of the twiddly piano keys.I wish he would continue playing forever and not retire.
Morning has broken like the first morning
Blackbird has spoken like the first bird
Praise for the singing, praise for the morning
Praise for them springing fresh from the world
Sweet the rains new fall, sunlit from Heaven
Like the first dewfall on the first grass
Praise for the sweetness of the wet garden
Sprung in completeness where His feet pass
Mine is the sunlight, mine is the morning
Born of the one light, Eden saw play
Praise with elation, praise every morning
God's recreation of the new day
Morning has broken like the first morning
Blackbird has spoken like the first bird
Praise for the singing, praise for the morning
Praise for them springing fresh from the world
After all the praise to Mr. Wakeman, all of which more than justified, i'll just join the queue.
One word through misty eyes…. Beautiful. 🤗
I've heard some of the greatest living pianists from all over the world and this man is as good as any of them....
Rick Wakeman
How could it be Yes
Without
Rick Wakeman ??????
Best piano rendition I have heard of this very special song.
I think I actually prefer Ulrika Rosen's version ua-cam.com/video/RJHi0vvaM5I/v-deo.html Rick's version is perhaps a bit *over* embelished, and he rattles through it a tad too fast for my liking.
You do know that it's Wakeman playing on the Cat Stevens song, right? And he WROTE the piano part for the song.
All the albums Rick played he made them more enjoyable.
There's only one Rick Wakeman. Tremendous keyboardist, and a very funny man.
MrPedal88 my best friend and I saw him at Westbury Music Fair maybe around 2004. His show was half piano/keyboards, half standup comedy. He was (is) incredible. I went in there not expecting that!
I've seen him live a couple times at small clubs and I agree - very matter of fact about his abilities and a great sense of humor
brother the song is a cat stevens song , dont confuse you
"Morning Has Broken" is a Christian hymn first published in 1931. It has words by English author Eleanor Farjeon and was inspired by the village of Alfriston in East Sussex, then set to a traditional Scottish Gaelic tune, "Bunessan". It is often sung in children's services and in funeral services. According to Wikipedia.
We chose this hymn on this Tuesday for my brother-in-law's furnal service, following Psalm 23. And we are in Wales.
🙏🙏
The poem by Eleanor Farjeon has more verses than the Cat Stevens rendition :
Morning has broken, like the first morning,
Blackbird has spoken, like the first bird.
Praise for the singing, praise for the morning,
Praise for them springing fresh from the word.
Sweet the rain's new fall, sunlit from heaven,
Like the first dew fall on the first grass.
Praise for the sweetness of the wet garden,
Sprung in completeness where His feet pass.
Mine is the sunlight, mine is the morning,
Born of the one light Eden saw play.
Praise with elation, praise every morning,
God's re-creation of the new day.
Cool the gray clouds roll, peaking the mountains,
Gull in her free flight, swooping the skies.
Praise for the mystery, misting the morning,
Behind the shadow, waiting to shine.
I am the sunrise, warming the heavens,
Spilling my warm glow over the earth.
Praise for the brightness of this new morning,
Filling my spirit with Your great love.
Mine is a turning, mine is a new life,
Mine is a journey closer to You.
Praise for the sweet glimpse, caught in a moment,
Joy breathing deeply, dancing in flight.

If Rick Wakeman is playing , I am listening.
Sorry about the loss of Queen Elizabeth may God be with the King and all who rule under him. Love this song.
If only you knew.
Best version i've ever heard.
Remember this when i was a kid played in a radio station every morning .....love this song.....
I wonder if Rick did the original tack on the legendary Trident Bechstein?
Such a beautiful song
Rick "The Inmortal" Wakeman
Beautiful Rick, remember singing this to my mom nd dad when i was 7 ❤
I love the sound of that piano. Heavenly
The most heartfelt tribute to David but you can imagine him watching and shouting, more cowbell
Beautifully played .... Beautiful song, killer player .... Just so great ...
I saw him do it live in New Hampshire in April 2023. Enchanting.
Rick played on the original Cat Stevens record so his interpretation is the DEFINITIVE one!
I Never herd that! Surprised....
RICK DID.THANKYOU. CAT STEVENS AN ASS
Agreed.
@@christinamorrison646 Keep your negative energy to yourself. Cat Stevens is a great artist who created much beautiful music. Leave religion out of this.
For anyone interested Rick tells the story here of how he came to record "Morning Has Broken" with Cat Stevens. It's quite a funny story with a nice twist at the end. ua-cam.com/video/Z47JkTlRlEQ/v-deo.html&t= Its easy to see/hear his classical training which he plays beautifully with perfection. My son met him once on a train in Norfolk....sat right opposite and said he was an absolute gentleman, very chatty and pleasant.
Bloody hell, that quite choked me.
What a bloke
One of the best piano player keyboard players of the last century absolute perfection
perfection .That's very very close
So beautiful! I could listen to you all day!!
Rick Wakeman is the greatest rock Keyboard players of all time FACT!
Hmmmmm…. Jon Lord might give Rick a run for his money Oh - also Keith Emerson…. Yeah it occurs to me that since they’re both deceased -I’m gonna have to agree with you.
A Musical Genius!
Just beautiful, thank you for sharing your gift
I never get tired of seeing and hearing Maestro Rick tickling the ivories. Rick was a major innovator with modern technology in the 1970s along with Keith Emerson...I've loved them both immensely, but between the two Rick has been my favorite. I'm sure that Mr. Moog had an incredible appreciation for the 2 of them as well because they basically, in my humble opinion, put Moog on the musical map. Thank you Maestro Rick for blessing us with such incredible sonic sensations.
amazing talented musician
I am right there with you! Rick has been my fav my entire life along with a few others like Sir Elton. I was double pleased when my brother married a Wakeman in 2003!! One of Ricks nieces.
Still stunningly beautiful!
Beautiful! It is an actual hymn, folks.
Wonderful composition and performance. Rick Wakeman is a genius with no equal!
Love this i remember when I was in year seven me and my friends sang this in front of the whole school. Haha
Love you to bits Rick ❤
I recently found out that this version of the old hymn was originally written by Wakeman so I looked up this version and it is gorgeous!
albeit late...Cat paid him (finally) the 10 pounds promised for his help
The 70s produced some great keyboard players, but Rick is head and shoulders above the rest…even Keith Emerson
A wizard on the keys ..put all the very best keyboard players who have ever lived into one person ....Rick Wakeman appears ...🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🎹🎹🎹🎵🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
One of the best songs ever recorded. Thanks for completing this masterpiece with your contributions.
A beautiful rendition of a beautiful hymn.
So freakin beautiful. Thank you.
I like how Rick takes us to beautiful and unexpected places, musically.
Sublime . Perfection personified.
Mine Is The Sunlight Mine Is The Morning! Beautiful Rick Wakeman You Are An Absolute Keyboard 🎹 Wizard!!🎹🎹❤️
J'ai eu la chance de voir Rick à Oxford jouer ce morceau ! Quel talent ! Simply the Best !
I am loving this so much thank you Rick
Rick wakeman foi o primeiro amor da minha vida quando eu era criança e ainda ele toca meu coraçao ...para sempre
Absolutely beautiful ❤️
One of the most beautiful songs and how it was performed made me feel so many emotions! feelings!
I don't what I say.
I think I'm in long way road, a trip on paradise !
Thank you, Master !!
What a star - thank you ...
Cat Stevens may have recorded this song but it is Rick's piano work that makes it a Masterpiece
Completely agree
Few moments in music will equal what a Classically Trained musician can do in music performances. When we allow Classical Music programs to be removed from classrooms due to budget considerations across the Nation we risk the loss of future Rick Wakemans and cape designers. That would be a huge mistake that will take decades to repair. Thank you for posting Rick Wakeman's performance of Morning has Broken ~ Dale B.
They compliment each other.
@@BerrysJSRD I want ALL of Rick Wakeman's capes. Yes. Amen.
Absolutely
Love you! Rick Wakeman! I saw him in concert with the band, Yes. I fell in love with Rick and Yes! Rick Wakeman is a legend on his own.! Beautiful!
GENIUS 👋👋👋👋👋👋👋👋👋👋
What a fantastic musician!
Doesn't get any better than this!
That is just so EFFING beautiful....OMG
His piano playing in morning has broken is phenomenal! I love listening him play this song! I am a new follower of him from this day forward! ❤
Marvellous piano player....a Master !
Morning has spoken.
This was a hymn before it was ever commercialized.
I sang this song in the 80's in my local church.
It is significant, though, that every time we sang this at school or when I've sung it in church, the piano accompaniment has always been the Rick Wakeman version, complete with intro and linking passages. It was a long time before I learned that the accompaniment was not part of the traditional arrangement of the hymn and had only been written in 1971.
I wish I could play HALF as good as Rik. Its a transformation seeing him on stage behind stacks of keyboards in his robes - the sitting down at a concert grand then we realise what a true vertuoso he is of all things with keyboards. Thanks for the music and the laughs - I'll never forget the story you told once about 'sending a sausage to the seaside' I cannot for the life of me remember what contect it was in now but it was hilarious!
Rick .....No te mueras nunca!!!!!!!!!!
Rick, huge respect. Whenever I hear you play it reminds me of how good a player I will never be. Hope to meet you one day.
@Vox Profunda....my son met him purely by chance. On a train in Norfolk of all places and said he was an absolute gent. No diva nonsense or anything like that, but very pleasant and chatty.
You and everyone both!!!
