He's one of my favourite artists ever. This song is actually about his dad who died in the Rwanda genocide. Honestly he's one of those artists that use their life struggles as their inspirations and they always have a message in their songs no matter how sad it is like this one. I went to two of his concerts of his and I always had fun there.
The song don't talk about her dad, but the absence of her dad and the impact in relation. The video choose to oriented this of absence of relationship between a son and her dad, in the angle of son and for a little part the angle of dad who want connect with his son. Finally he mean, worst your parent are... they teach you how live, express your emotion... and it's better than no parents.
Something that makes this song so much more powerful is the story of his father. He was born in Rwanda and was a very successful architect. In 1994, when Stromae was 9, he was killed in the Rwandan genocide...
This was 5 years ago! You'll be glad to hear that the Maestro is back!! And you won't believe what he's done this time! 😁 Check out his new songs : live on TF1 french tv channel, on the news, "l'enfer". He also did a video. And there's another one called "santé", video + performance on Jimmy Fallon's show!
His is one of the best concerts I've ever been to! He's an incredibly talented artist!! Please react to his songs Alors On Dance (which was his breakthrough in Europe) and Formidable as well when you have time ^^
I'm astonished by your WONDERFUL reactions on all STROMAE work: -First you appreciate his music and his clips at the right level ! He is just GREAT! -And woow you must be intelligent, because it's like you always get a good sense of what he's saying in his songs, even though you don't speak french !!... You're really impressive! You deserve more views!! God bless you man ! (from France)
I subscribed to your channel for your BTS reactions, but as french, I'm super happy to see you reacting to Stromae, I love this artist so much, his lyrics and beats are always on point ! Thanks !
i know this is irrelevant but am an arab trying to learn french (and failing miserably) and i just wanted to tell a french person that their language is GÉNIAL!! :DD i look forward to listening to songs in french without translation
It's such a common problem... no dads in the household - more and more children growing up in broken homes. Or fathers just not taking responsibility! Great song & vid...
I really did enjoy the message of this MV and thank goodness for english subs because I wouldn't have gotten the full message. Also what sound system do you have setup because the sound quality coming through your mic is really good.
one day im gonna meet him i hope cause i had 4 dreams with him so i will see him cause thats a sign that he is gonna meet me and im gonna meet him im his biggest fan i love him so mabye i shall see him
As someone else said, his father actually didn't leave just because--he died and his mother always told him his dad was away at work to spare him the truth :( So hard though. What I love about his video too is how every actor was black. That's unusual in a music video (even rap and hip hop vids have white people). Very different.
Actually, his dad left years before he died. He died when Stromae was about 9, but Stromae had only seen him a few times before that. Also, the song is meant to be more than just about Stromae's personal life.
Papaoutai is " papa ou t'es " like " where are you dad "..... Weraryudad A song on the fathers who was here physicly but not in act (Sorry 4 my english ) You have subtitle or this song Stromae ( Maestro ) he's just a fucking genius
I didn't realize that his sadness stemmed from his father being killed in Rwanda's ethnic cleansing. His mom didn't tell him for many years. Not knowing the truth must have been painful for him.
Also, the father figure guy that krumps in the video is tight eyez, he's a legend, definitely look up some of his stuff. Unless you already know him =)
Exactly my reaction when I first watch this mv.. it’s like seriously why with that puppet body .. why why why is he not alive !! Then only I realise the lyrics ... which truly makes me sad ... and I feel shame to only know his songs in 2021 !
his dad was killed in the rowandan genocide his dad was good he was killed and Paul didn't know for a few years because no one had the guts to tell him that's what this song is about
+Naiki Papaoutai was definitely the song that got him noticed. The music video and the lyrics are exceptional, crosses boundaries of nationalities and race without straying far from the original context to alienate the original audience.
Soufiane 47 He was asking where his father went. Then he addresses "you" and says can you tell me where your father is at? His father was in a war when he was younger so he never really got to get memories. The title "papoutai" translates to "Dad, where are you?"
on n'en est pas ) revendiquer la nationalité lol, c'est un belge qui chante français, comme bcp d'autres. Les belges sont un trésor pour la france, et c'est un français qui parle
Love your reaction. Dud could you react Tété please ? It's a french artist who make clip video, compose, and play guitar very well. His musical style is more funk pop, i suggest you "au faveur de l'automne" "La bande son de ta vie", "Ritournelle", "madeleine, bas de laine" "Mon trésor" "Persona non grata" "Love love love" Enjoy :D (sorry for my english, i'm french from french Island. New Caledonia)
I try to translate the lyrics in english: "How that sound "prood of you" in Senegaulois (new word create by Tété: for african second generation born in France) ? someone said that to me ? You can reply too me: "autant sur l'autel de mes regrets" means litteraly: your regret's altar proove there's nothing" but in a poetric way "parents deprived love that you need, and it's make you memory of regrets". How that sound "I love you" in my dad language ? Did i miss this lesson ? What can say my gene ? "Us too, that day perhaps we was on strike (or absent)" Chorus: The sweet Ritournelle (= it's a melody who haunted your memory) i heart voice of... Ritournelle... in my footprint (or walk)... Ritournelle... the blems (problem) the only dilemma it's... how could you said I love you without make a poem." It's only the first and the chorus. But you can discovery a great composer. The question is: How can express love ? real love with real acts...
i have a suggestion ... i think Maitre Gims is more talented than stromae .. he's an amazzzzzzing artist ... i wish we can see your reaction watching his song Sapés comme jamais :) :)
Actually its because the video is showing that he never got to see his dad because he got killed in the Rwandan Genocide, so he never had someone to be like a dad to him, showing how hard it is to be without him.
That's in reality of what happened to him, but in the video and song the meaning is bigger than that. He talking about being a father figure and how hard it is to be a good father with a family and a hard, but good paying job. "Everyone knows how to make children, but no one knows how to make dads."
The lyrics of this song are really deep even though it's composed in a happy tune.
"everyone knows how to make children but noone knows how to make dads" that line is so powerful
This song made me cry
i suggest you "Ritournelle" By Tété a bit more deep i think.
Hairofthewolf Like Polo,...sounds happy, but the innuendo in the text ;).
Hairofthewolf it's done on purpose, Stromae's songs really have many meanings, it's a genius.

@@steefbon2526 His* a son is a male
Stephane Bonneau actually he talked about it in an interview and he said that this song talked about his dad who died in the Rwanda genocide
That's very sad I always thought it was about a deadbeat dad that the real story is much sadder
His father abandoned the family before what happened in Rwanda so the song explores other issues as well.
His dad died in a war 😢 when he was young. So he wasn't really able to make memories with him.❤
Not a war, a genocide, it's an entirely different situation
he did not die in a war he was murdered in a genocide these are two diff things
Some people don't understand the meaning of this song, but you nailed it my friend, thumbs up👍
Meaning of this song can understand anyone without translation.
Something that makes this song so much more powerful is the story of his father. He was born in Rwanda and was a very successful architect. In 1994, when Stromae was 9, he was killed in the Rwandan genocide...
3:19 best African guitar rhythm

You might want to know that his name STROMAE is a composition of "Maestro" (Mae-stro ... -> Stro-mae) , Master. Definitely a master class artist.
The backstory behind why Stromae made this is amazing. After watching the interview on this song, it gives a whole new meaning to this one.
I subscribed to your channel for your BTS reactions, but as french, I'm super happy to see you reacting to Stromae, I love this artist so much, his lyrics and beats are always on point ! Thanks !

You're right! Diversity=wide range of characteristics. Thank you for correcting me. I'll edit my post.
It's a huuuugggee privilege to grow up in a healthy normal family structure.
