Stromae is dope. I don't understand French very well but I feel his music. He also seems like a good guy. I wouldn't want him to make music in English. Let the masses learn French so they can appreciate his music in its original form. Also, art is very important because it teaches us how to see things from another's perspective. Such a skill is an invaluable asset in any area of life. Artists are just as important as teachers, police officers, etc. It is sad that we in America undervalue art while overvaluing entertainment.
His lyrics are wonderful. I was lucky enough to hear his music early since I lived in France. Definitely worth taking the time to translate some of his songs, especially "Formidable", such a great song!
Great comment! Stromae has kept influencing me to stay in touch with my love for joy or the pain I have felt, that is hardest to talk about. I think though that this interviewer didn't understand him all that well & I don't know would come back for a second one. 'Cause when it comes to expressing anger & in this case through music. I know myself that when you work on a song, you evolve the anger you have can soften as you understand more deeply, so offcourse you need to keep working on it, changing it, so it fits. He couldn't see that, when Stromae explained. I don't understand stand much french myself, but I feel his music too. This is a very humble being.
Punto.
Over the years I've seen many interviews of Stromae, but this one is by far one of the best. You get the sense that the interviewer knows what he's talking about and has actually prepared really well for the interview. Bravo
I'm an Anglophone and absolutely love Stromae's music and his humbleness and honesty. He is a breath of fresh air and I wish more artist were like him.
Wow, amazing interview with very interesnting questions. I admire Stromae not only for his music. He seems to be a nice person with defined thoughts about his career and the way how he wants to rule his life. It's great when beyond the music you can find a person, not only a pretty face or a character; a person who worth.
i've read the article where they wrote that he said that art is "bulls***" and I was like "WHAT?? how can a great artist say that??", but I understand what he was trying to say here in this interview and I almost completely agree with him .. and i'm an art teacher, hahah!!
as a belgian am proud about this man. he knows music & feelings and art he learned to combine all influences white black latino this man is a musical genius
Fantastic interview, incredible musician and human being. He's extremely successful but still maintains his humble attitude and positive outlook on life. My friends ran into him out to eat at breakfast alone before a show, took the time to talk to them and was extremely genuine.
What a wonderful interview: unusual questions, great interviewer and a very pleasant atmosphere! Also such a big increase in Stromae's English vocabulary compared to a couple years ago! Thank you for this, I truly enjoyed every minute of it.
The questions in the interview are so good. They really go deeper than a lot of other interviews. I just feel bad for Stromae that he couldn't quite understand the questions, and therefore couldn't give his best answers. Still, very interesting to hear about his stance on different topics!
+Gabby King i have the opposite view. i think the interviewer didn't understand stromae. for instance, stromae told him a minute earlier that he often tries to distance himself from the song to keep his objectivity. then right after, interviewer asks him about rwanda/loss of his father and how it coincides with papaoutai. stromae had to correct him and tell him that it's about growing up and accept adulthood instead of blaming the past mistakes (childish preconception). the interviewer doesn't know what he's saying. then moments later, interviewer asks him about his success in europe. HE ALREADY ANSWERED THOSE QUESTIONS!!!!
haudace fair enough, i feel like any english interview isn't going to be the best that it could be, simply because of language barriers. i thought it was a good interview for simply seeing an insight into stromae as a person/performer
Very nice and interesting interview. Stromae is very intelligent and I do agree with his opinions and (P.O.V.) Point of view to some Extent. He's a great singer/composer! :)
Don't make an English album!!! be yourself..... everyone has their own speciality. English singers/ Spanish Singers/Chinese singer have their own philosophy. i like your song very much eventhough my french is not really quite good. GOOD LUCK monseiur Stromae ^_^ !
You are Soooooo right about that! don't make an English album at all! keep it French. Mind you I have no idea what he is saying as I don't understand nor speak French. unless there is subtitles
STROMAE DO NOT EVER PRODUCE ANY ENGLISH MUSIC! EVER!!!!!! On a side note, I am so proud that we share the same birthday and I totally feel you my pieces counterpart!
so what he is trying to tell the interviewer is that 'music' is useless in the sense that it's not a concrete thing that can feed you or house you. it's just this intangible thing that we all worship. It brings more to us than food or drinks i suppose. I'm 46 and i've come to realize that 'sound' plays a huge part in creation/evolutions. So that's why we worship music. Sound is more sacred than we all realize.
100% for Stromae 😊👍. A brilliant artist a classy man and honest person. Honesty is often labeled as aggressiveness. Unfortunately. Music is the perfect way and language to communicate and share opinions and feelings. And this language does not require translation. P. S. Remaining % for moderator😁. I'm kidding😁.
It’s always amazing to me how good his English is... but why does the interviewer ask such long questions... using unnecessary words?? Everyone knows when you are speaking to someone who’s first language isn’t English then you simplify your sentences. After he didn’t understand a question the interviewer says ‘I guess I’m remarking on...’ seriously??? Remarking? Simplify the language you use. It’s great how good his English is but don’t confuse people unnecessarily.
I can't speak a lick of French but I'm going to iTunes to get all his music...he has a warm and inspiring personality

"You become an adult when you forgive your father" ... What a quote
👏🏻👏🏻great quote
His father was murdered in the Rwandan civil war.

Stromae is very mannerable I might add! Please and thank you where needed. Such a warm personality. A pleasure watching...

Stromae looks so good.

Lucky enough to go to his concert last night, it was absolutely amazing!!!
I was there too
Small world eh! Ahhhh I loved it sooo much! Much love
This Interview has to be one of his bests! Amazing :)
it is great that he gets the attention that he deserves especially in an era dominated by lazy music that depends on either sleaze or skin...
As usual, great interview by Jian. His work and his charisma is dearly missed.
Very nice and interesting interview. Stromae is very intelligent and I do agree with his opinions and (P.O.V.) Point of view to some Extent. He's a great singer/composer! :)
Anglophone here, but still a big fan of Stromae
I love his shirt.
Jian: "What's wrong with being angry"? Me: Well, its ok to FEEL angry, just not to beat women when you feel angry". :p
He is putting Belgium on the map.
so humble

He won't and your absolutely right !

No, he only produces French songs, and now for other artists.
interesting individual. very eloquent as well
Man, he is a genius
I wish he elaborated more on the question "does it make you feel uncomfortable when you are called a role model" its a really interesting question
Oh God I love him .
I'm going to his concert in Toronto next Saturday. Anyone care to join?

As much as Jian has done terrible things and is in no way a role model to men when it comes to treating women, he was excellent at his job
"Tim Hurt-em" or something mdrrr
He's a UFO! :-)
u
Worst interviewer ever. Had this genius having to explain himself instead of letting us know more about him. Just terrible terrriiiblé
