Trackmate RC Lap Counter for Our Backyard RC Track - Installation and Review

- Installation and review of the Trackmate IRidium lap counter and timing system for our backyard RC race track. We ordered the standard package which includes 10 transponders, eight IR sensors (enough to cover a 10-foot wide track), the USB decoder, and all USB and RJ45 network cables required to connect everything.
Needed to complete the setup is a PC or laptop computer, and some sort of bridge to span the track in which to attach the sensors. We built ours with pressure-treated wood decking material.
Race management software is available from Trackmate at no charge, but the system works with other race management programs as well.
Our backyard R/C track is sized for 1/10 scale RC buggies and trucks such as Associated SC10, Traxxas Slash, Losi Ten SCTE, RC10GT, RC10B, and RC10T. We also have Kyosho nitro-powered 1/8 scale buggies but they are a bit large and fast for this track.

The counter is a great idea and the bridge looks sturdy enough to take even a senior citizen's misadventures. The closing "buggy eye view" video is pretty choice....
This is the coolest slot car track I've ever seen, the cavities, acronyms and measurements went over my head but I do miss that lady who articulated the bracket races...
Great video, mate. Been looking for an affordable lap counter and you explained everything exceptionally. If I was the company . This is the video I'd be recommending !
Glad the video was helpful. If you do order a Trackmate system, be sure to let them know about this vid. Maybe they'll recommend it.
I have always wondered what it takes to set up lap counter and had never been able to find any videos on it, thanks for posting this.
Not bad for 10 transponders.
Wow, awesome video! Thanks for taking the time to make it! I have a mylaps system for my track but am considering switching to something with cheaper transponders to Make it easier for kids getting started
Somehow I missed this comment when it posted and now found it a year later, so sorry for the late reply. I agree with getting something more affordable, especially for getting the younger generation interested in RC hobbies as you don't want financial barriers. MyLaps/AMB practically has a monopoly on the electronic lap timing market and the cost of their systems and transponders is outrageous. Trackmate is definitely more affordable for the end user (racers) as you can get their transponders for at little as $25 each, and there are even other Trackmate-compatible ones for even less.
@@johnniehobby thanks for the reply! Since making this comment I have started our track in the Green Bay, WI area (RC Sports) with a Trackmate timing system, and have sold hundreds of the trackmate transponders. You can source them in bulk for cheaper from Orangelap RC. I am SO happy with this decision, it's a way better price point for getting kids and beginners into the hobby and works great!
Nice! 🏎🚗🚙
Great video 👍 Good info 👍 Looks like good fun 👍
Awesome video 👍😎
Thank you! Cheers!
Can you use this setup with RC drag racing, Thanks nice work on the track
Can you show us how you guys installed them on painted cars. appreciate your time
Installation on the cars with painted windshields was the same as all the others, which was Velcro the transponder to either the battery foam or the steering servo.
Really nice job on the video very informative. Do you leave your bridge out in the weather even when you are not racing?
We leave it out all the time during racing season but bring it inside over the winter.
@@johnniehobby Ok great thanks very muc.
How did you attach the sensors to the bridge? Velcro? Double sided tape?
The sensors have holes to mount with screws (1:57 mark in the video).
how are you liking it?
So far it's worked flawlessly, no complaints.
How much are these and get them nead everything to come with I have the PC thank you please get back with me😊
The Standard package (the one we have) includes everything you need except the PC and comes with 8 overhead track sensors, enough for 10-foot wide track, and 10 transponders. That kit is $555 US.
