  • The Trackmate Racing RC Lap timing system includes hardware and software components. The iridium infrared sensors are highly accurate as long as the lap bar is constructed properly. This video breaks down the components included in a kit. We also discuss some of the competitors: MyLaps, I-Laps, and Robotronic. Finally we breakdown how the technology works and compare Trackmates' infrared overhead sensors to other systems that use underground magnetic induction.
    Ehrhart Racing recommends this system to anyone who is looking to enhance their RC world. This is one of the top RC lap timing systems and for the price it is an excellent addition for a group of RC enthusiasts or family's to purchase to take RC to the next level.
    We have tested this system for 1/24 to 1/10th scale vehicles but believe it would work for even smaller and larger scale vehicles with the right lap bar setup.

    you can take a black spot like the window, rub off the paint and take a black marker if you dont keep the transponder

    Great vid! How did you plug the transponder into the Losi 1/24 esc?

      There is a port accessible but hidden. If you look around the top of the vehicle you will see a hole. A servo plug fits just dandy.

    Do you happen to know how far the lap bar and the transmitters can be from one another? Looking to use this for electric skateboard racing and wondering if this might be a solution.

    • @EhrhartRacingRC
      @EhrhartRacingRC  Рік тому +1

      It's only about two feet. You could design a gate or multiple gates that racers drive through l__l where the transmitters are on the side of the skateboards and the receivers are pointing sideways instead of down.
      Otherwise you are looking at an RFID type system like one used by runners or gocarts
      I feel like this is one of the less expensive options but still pricy:
      www.vostokelectronics.com/product/tdcoderis/
      Works for gocarts, I imagine it will work for skate boards.

    How does the IR knows which direction you are driving to? what if you drive reversed? or drive backwards and then forwards over the finish?

    • @EhrhartRacingRC
      @EhrhartRacingRC  6 років тому +1

      Direction doesn't matter. The system picks up laps if the user drives under the bar. Most racing software does not count laps within X seconds of the previous lap to prevent misreads and such.

    Good info. I went through similar research some time back. It’s a lot to take in when you’re first learning about it... are you still happy with the Trackmate setup? I might be getting this for a local 18th scale track. Thanks

    • @BlaineEhrhart
      @BlaineEhrhart 6 років тому +2

      Yes I'm still happy with the trackmate setup. We use it for 1/28 scale miniz mostly now but it works great for the larger scale as well. I also use the iLap system at our club which has the same performance but I think it slightly more costly. Orange Lap RC makes cheapest transponders and probably equipment but I have yet to try it. It is the same technology and has backwards compatible transponders with the other two systems. I have some of these transponders for the iLap and they work.
      I use both systems because I'm building software that is compatible with both. I am releasing soon and if you are interested in beta testing a download will be available soon here: nextleveltiming.com/
      ** The download buttons won't work for about another week as I'm still working on a few things but if you contact me on that website I can shoot you a link if its not available when you make your purchase.
      Good luck!

    Hi,
    You are the one behind the great NextLevelTiming, right?
    It's the only linux app that supports both USB and serial Robitronic interfaces. I have both of them, but I'm missing cable for rs232 version and Robitronic company was unable to give me pinout. Maybe you could help me? (I guess you've also got both of them if you were able to implement them ;-)
    cheers

      Yes, I wrote next level timing. I do have both devices but I don't know how to get the pinout. Do you have discord? Maybe you could walk me through it?

    Hi so can you put the sensor in the pipe ?

    • @BlaineEhrhart
      @BlaineEhrhart 3 роки тому +1

      Apologies, yeah I didn't really clarify that. You would have to cut large gaps into the pipe so the sensor can see out. You probably don't want to obstruct the vision of the sensors a sun but unless the rain is blowing up at least then you could prevent that. Or if you did water proofing with clear lexan and sealant around the wholes that might work.

      I assume you are talking about the timing system. The answer is no. The track mate software is free. If you want to look at other software that works with this hardware check out Next level timing. It has a free version as well and it's great software. *Disclaimer: I developed Next Level Timing.

    Hi sir. Can it operate on gasoline rc boats?

    • @BlaineEhrhart
      @BlaineEhrhart 6 років тому

      Redzall Reduan I would imagine you could create a waterproof lap bar. I would hit up track mate and ask them if it's been done before

    • @mredzall1
      @mredzall1 6 років тому

      Blaine Ehrhart . Great! The waterproofing issue is manageable. Does the water droplets does affect the sensor reading? Or we might end up with a lot of angry racers..🤣

    • @BlaineEhrhart
      @BlaineEhrhart 6 років тому

      Sorry for the lack of response, I didn't see this. I would imagine they don't as the sensors can shoot through a thin layer of paint. You are probably just going to have to ask the manufacture what the deal is here.
