one of the greatest episodes in anime history
the tension-the voice acting-the animation-the emotion and the character development
it has it all
The author of HxH, Togashi wrote such an incredible and tense scenario in this one room of the palace. The interesting part of this whole scene to me isn't the anger Gon feels towards Pitou and the frustration he expresses when he has to postpone his revenge fight. The much more interesting part of this episode is how Gon has completely changed as a person and how this tunnel vision of getting Kite back has resulted in Gon pushing Killua away when the two need each other the most. These last couple of episodes in the Chimera Ant arc are probably some of my favorite scenes in all of anime.
Gon Va did such a amazing job
5:55 When the King kills the eagle that was attacking Komugi they also show that window but it is illuminated, perhaps reflecting the King's state as if there was a small light of hope inside him for having saved her, while here the window is all black /dark, implying Gon's state full of anger, evil, the complete opposite of Meruem.
9:27 Nice Catch! I've never seen anyone really talk about the camera angles and shots during these particular scenes. They're amazing.
When killua steps forward towards Gon it Zooms in to close the distance only to switch to a shot of Gon being completely Despondent. Unresponsive to Killua reaching out. Then a landscape shot of just their Silhouettes. Then a greyscale portrait of Killua being real sad. Then Gon walks off screen. Ugh. So good.
Just a small but imo big reason why HxH is just peak and literally nothing else comes close.
The reaction we’ve been waiting for
Zepile once described Gon's characteristic. He really dosen't care about what is right or wrong, he care when it satisfied him or not. He is so dangerous since the beginning.
But no one have seen it coming 😂
When Binolt, a murderer who attacked them in Greed Island and ended up getting caught by Bisky. While they're training with him, Killua had a chance to kill Binolt, but Gon kept Binolt alive not because of he is a good man, but because Binolt can served him as a target to practice.
Binolt being kept alive just because he has some used to Gon, and that's what satisfied Gon.
But Pitou is difference. Pitou is a target to Gon's anger. Even we're all love Kite, but what Pitou did was just to complete its own duties, to get its race survived.
"If you aren't strong enough, the Ants will eat you.", that's what Kite told before.
The writing is so good!!!!
The flow back and forth in the dialogue, how Pitou is cornered and desperate, willing to give more and more guarantees bc she sees everything she says is not playing in her favor but since she can't even understand human emotions yet she doesn't realize why he's so angry, so she's just trying to satisfy Gon ...also the slow realization in Gon and Killua's mind of what it means : Killua is levelheaded despite his anxiety and able to accept that 'it is happening there's no other explanation'.... but Gon even though the truth becomes obvious is just too emotional to accept that this monster could have human emotions (and he's actually not wrong to think that he can't trust her) btw what he wants and the line he can't cross he's also cornered and forced to wait for Komugi to be healed...after everything he went through to get to this point it's so painful
He was wrong to say those words to Killua : Killua can't be in his shoes but that doesn't mean he doesn't care...
Sadly there's nothing they can do to close that gap in that moment...I believe many friendships/relationships go through similar trials irl bc life is just that hard
Killua's decision to go help elsewhere was not only pragmatic but also the right thing to do to protect his feelings in that moment
Everything happening in their minds and hearts is just so realistic for their characters and given the situation they're in, it makes that scene so powerful ...and the voice acting is stellar✨✨

I mean Gon rudely told him to stay out of his business andddd Gon was far too gone at point
As he should? Gon is NOT treating him the way he should. Killua is a better friend to Gon than the other way around
