Well acted. Well shot. Looks great. Sounds great. Hated the story, plot, and theme. Not the worst movie I've ever seen, but not something I'd watch again.
Great review. It seems ironic that people are always fussing that films are all the same now and just routine studio products and every time a film comes out that does something unexpected or unique those same people hate the film.
I can see why,to a certain degree, a lot of people seriously hate it but I thought it was brilliant, i totally loved it. Like the first film I was mesmerised from beginning to end... I think in years to come it will be reevaluated.. Great video by the way 😊 1:30
I like the idea of there being another joker that would be considered the “real” one, but I didn’t like how this one got to the conclusion. I would have preferred the pregnancy storyline to play out. The movie would end with Harley giving birth while Arthur gets the chair, and as the baby is born and crying, Arthur starts laughing. The movie could end there and hint that he never was the joker, but his son potentially would be.
Fundamentally speaking. There’s nothing different they did with the Arthur Fleck character than what happened to Luke Skywalker in the Last Jedi. I think that’s part of the outrage and distain for where the story goes. All love and respect for differing opinions though 🙏🏾
I think they should have just made it a standalone and not a sequel, because that's half the problem right there. I'd have cast Crispin Glover (who actually released a song called Clowny Clown Clown years ago) and Chrystabell as the leads and go in a more Lynchian direction.
the more traumatized a person, the more of an alter ego they will have - we live in a functionally insane society and those living through their alter ego without question or care will not want a mirror held up in front of them that shows them their alter ego, which is the joker 2.
Great review! I don’t disagree with anything you are saying I just fundamentally have never seen a movie more incoherently placed together; it structurally is a staggering failure to me. The lack of narrative cohesion is astounding, that this would even get released in this capacity is solely based on prior success financially. Gaga doesn’t have a pay off in my estimation because there are clearly massive amounts of deleted scenes. There are entire subplots filmed not in this theatrical cut. Looking at the material from the advertisements showcases this glaringly. I also might be projecting but I thought that Lady Gaga had a very subtle facial reaction that could indict she was lying about being pregnant all along in her last scene when Arthur addresses the baby directly to her. Her entire demeanor is defeatist, all the cards have been played and she is showing her true face. I actually also think her work in this movie is incredible and that all of the context is missing in the character through the alleged hackery in the editing room. I actually love a lot of the ideas presented in this picture I also love the idea of dismantling the perspective of this character being lauded in any capacity by the audience. I just think it’s bafflingly inept in a structural sense; there is no engagement or emotionally connectivity between the material and the audience. It’s all just taken for granted and I think that stories put to film fundamentally need to be felt and lived through and have heartbeats. Todd Philips doesn’t know how to craft anything that is real unless he is copying a template previously lauded or telling a soulless comedic story. I don’t see any work done to actually tell a story in this movie. It’s just a lot of money and a lot of different half baked ideas. I don’t want to be one of the sheep hating someone that swung for the fences. I agree with literally all your points. I just actually think irregardless of the good this is such a failure in storytelling I can’t see past it’s shortcomings.
bro if you would never watch this movie again how is it not a bad movie? anyone make this make sense. Original doesn't grant you a point btw people say it for the chance it can work instead of trying something that's already been overdone.
The meanest comment gets a kiss

Yeah, I need to know what happens. After all, I've stopped watching the show and only get the "story" through you!

I haven't seen either of the films. But I think this review makes me more interested in seeing them then i was before.
Thank you for this review. You gave me a lot to think about, cheers!

Revolver is a much better movie about the ego/alter-ego, imo

“Relax. It’s just a movie.”…? 🤔 Go rewatch about 80% of your own reviews, Mickey C. 🤣
I'm trying to mature okay 😂
