technically there's nothing to prove or disprove she's been put in stasis- just that she's been hired. we are certainly lead to believe she's been placed in stasis, but that's only because we're used to the fade to black indicating that in hl games
What if the Half-Life: Alyx timeline was the timeline where Gordon Freeman decided to reject the G-Man’s job opportunity in Half-Life? It happened after the events of Half-Life but before the events of Half-Life 2, so could that make sense? Plus he mentioned that Mr. Freeman did not lead up to his expectations, and maybe that’s what he meant in that line?
yeah it's definitely that, in escort sections with Alyx, if she dies you have a similar message at first, but the way it's said (" *the* alyx") it's obvious these are vortigaunts speaking about Alyx's untimely demise. I get the impression that time didnt freeze for the advisor, it just couldnt move. It was fully prepared and ready to kill alyx, but the Gman didnt let it
There’s a theory that Alyx takes the place of a vortigaunt, hence why she kills the advisor with electricity than a regular weapon. So the advisor might be reacting to the vortigaunt that Alyx takes the place of.
And it's also found in the beginning of Half Life 1, on the train ride, explaining Freeman's occupation, etc. Honestly, don't like that theory. HL1 tram ride basically destroys it, as well as HLA.
I think that it is G-Man making a report on Gordon's background and behavior, and in Episode 2 when the Vortigaunts stop G-Man's control over Gordon, the messeges come from the Vorts' perspective.
Here's another explanation considering that one line the All-Seeing Vortigaunt says. The line that goes something like "Eyes far away see through yours". Assuming the All-Seeing Vortigaunt isn't breaking the fourth wall and referring directly to the player, it could be that the 'text report' that flashes on the screen is meant to provide information about the subject to the ones looking through the subject's eyes in order to evaluate them. Possibly the G-man's employers. That would be quite creepy.
Not really "retconned", as they were never part of the core HL story and weren't created by the main writer. I can imagine Laidlaw taking some inspiration from them, but I think it's just as probable that both are simply based on the historical colonialism, which sci-fi writers often allude to when depicting alien civilizations interacting with humanity.
I always imagined Race X as a competing (lesser) empire to the Combine. And they tried to sieze earth before the combine could to prevent them from expanding
i respect you and all, but the only worse hottake i've seen is when one guy was trying to convince me that the Eridians from Borderlands franchise were actually a giant expansion on the concept of Race X. What's stupid is that he was right only to a certain point. the final boss in BL1, The Destroyer was very likely inspired by the Gene Worm. Both are very simular in design (except one isnt just a fucking bullet sponge, jesus christ.), they are both a tentacle monster that comes out of a giant portal and they both seem to only have a part of their body sticking out of the portal. But that's kinda about it.

The game-over texts in HL1 and HL2 are all in CAPSLOCK, in Ep1 it's without CAPSLOCK (broke from GMAN control?). But in EP2 the texts have Vortigaunt-philosphical speaking, which clearly confirms that Gordon is being communicated or used by Vortigaunts. The movie is known for the sexual horror subtext in its alien designs, and its creators in particular have mentioned trying to scare the male audience by evoking homosexual rape imagery with some of the scenes. Russian language is presented there too, but it appears on some bottles of vodka, which presence can be explained as soviet products. Bulgaria has access to the Black sea. And finally, overall look of c17 looks like a soviet Bulgaria (i can be wrong here)

English, Russian and Polish are currently present in the HL universe in City17. 20 years have passed since the events of the cascade resonanse and portal storm, I assume that during this time millions of people have been deported by the Combine more than once. On posters, in newspapers and on products, languages were mixed up so rudely and absurdly, as people themselves moved, logistics chains changed so quickly that new "tenants" could arrive at City17 from far away in a week and even get a job appointment.
I've seen that. There are multiple Nihilanth, not just one, so the theory goes that one of them is the G-Man in Human form, since they have almost unlimited capabilities. Another theory of the same type is that G-Man is an Advisor projecting himself as a human, which I personally believe more. Also Ted Backman stated that the Advisors "were once a race not unlike humans".
I've always liked the idea that the texts you get whenever you die or fail a mission are the reports of the G-Man. Hence why we see stuff as: Subject: Freeman Status: Hired Awaiting Assignment He has 'employers', who authorized him to 'hire' Gordon Freeman so maybe these are the reports he has to send them on his progress.
and in ep2 when G-man is restrained by the vorts, the message is displayed in typical "vortigaunt speak" (ie. more cryptic, referring to 'the freeman' etc.) instead of the 'Subject, Status, Assignment' format associated with G-man
In Half Life: Opposing force, the last thing Corporal Shepard is told by the G-Man is that the G-Man isn't allowed to "Close my report on the matter without tying up all... loose ends." He specifies this means shepard, and while the G-Man liked shepard and wanted to employ him, his employers would only allow them to detain shepard. It is VERY MUCH not even implied, but OVERTLY STATED that he is writing reports. The final "report" on shepard indicated shepard was "detained". It's not even an "idea". This is one of the easiest to confirm things in the half life series. You ARE 10000% seeing the start to G-Man's reports.

That doesnt make much sence since ravenholm is a small mining town, and was used as a secret hideout for civilians and the resistance before being discovered and bombarded with headcrabs by the combine
Actually, Laidlaw has said many times his rejection of conventional ideas of "canon". He only said Race X doesn't apply to HIS thinking about the universe, as in his thought process when he writes. So Race X is just about as canon as Alyx since it wasn't his ideas.

@@cj-3810 ok and? gordons marksmanship abilities, tactical thinking skills, and raw courage are all completely unenhanced by the suit. an ordinairy man wearing the HEV would most likely have died in the black mesa incident unless they got very lucky. (and if they had to fight all ghe same enemies and traverse all the same hazards gordon did? forget it.) also even with the shielding the suit provides you can still die in half life pretty quickly when exposed to gunfire, psionic attacks by vorts and houndeyes, and various environmental hazards. count how many times you die in an average hard mode playthrough of half life and if its any higher than 0, you could not have done what freeman did.
I honestly believe this about the timelines thing: No one really knows how time travels work irl right? People know it's possible, but they dont know how it would affect time and space. So I think it's better for us to not think too precisely about how the HLA ending affected HL2. Imo, what happened was: Gman told Gordon in HL2EP2 to take Alyx to White Forest so she could witness her father's death, and be there at the exact moment that it happened. With this happening, he could use that specific scene as a "show" for Alyx in the past, so that she could get emotional and accept Gman's offer without thinking about the unforseen consequences (you can even notice that in the ending of HLA the scene where you see Eli's death is like a stage, with a big spotlight aiming towards Alyx hugging her father's corpse, just like a theater). So he goes back in time, gets imprisoned on purpose knowing that Alyx would try to enter the vault. By doing that, he would be able to show her that specific "show" scene, causing her to accept his offer without knowing that the price would be working for him. When she kills the advisor in the ending of HLA, in my point of view, it is as if the Alyx from the past teleported to the future and killed the advisor right at the ending of hl2ep2. But, with her being now in stasis, it wouldnt be possible for her to be at the same time in our dimension (im considering the "stasis" as an another dimension), so she simply disappears at the ending of hl2ep2. This DOESNT mean however, that all of the stuff that happened in hl2 ended up not happening, it did, but when gman putt 19 yo alyx into stasis, it would be a paradox for her to be on earth in the ending of hl2ep2, so the universe simply makes her "disappear" as a consequence of what happened. This is shown in the post credits scene, where Eli simply says "she's gone", she simply vanished because it wouldnt make sense for her to be in 2 different dimensions at the same time. Also, when you kill the advisor in the ending of HLA, you can see Eli falling, then looking side to side, looking for Alyx desperately. Too confusing right? That's why I think we shouldnt think TOO much about all of that.
"She's gone, Gordon. She's GONE." From a story perspective, he is bewildered by her sudden disappearance. From a disciplined creative standpoint, dialogue must explicitly move the story forward; filler is a waste of screentime. The reason her absence is emphasized is to drive home the fact that the Alyx we fought alongside and bonded with in HL2 and its episodes is no more. She's GONE. Only the version of Alyx from the VR game exists, now, and she is employed by the G-Man, 5 years in the making. "As a consequence of your action, this entity will continue, and this entity will not." Not only is G-Man refering to Eli and the Advisor, respectively, but also to both versions of Alyx: VR Alyx will continue, and Half-Life 2 Alyx will not.
Could be that there are now two copies of Alyx, either a complete split or the lines or perhaps one took the place of the other, assuming you see time trav as a linear line, and not an endless route of options and outcomes. Supposing that the Alyx now, is the alyx from the past and knows nothing of any future event, and that maybe there is still an alyx somewhere else

Noone ever mentions the light year jump in quality and presentation from beta leaks to retail release. It didn't feel like a beta, it felt like half life 1. Upon release, though, it was a whole other game.
They did scrap the beta to focus on facial animations.They probably decided to utilize the new engine to its fullest intent, allowing them to make up for the lack of enemy variety and such, with scripted sequences, dialogue, and physics. Kind of like Left 4 Dead (minus the physics). Then again, the beta *was* a beta. So things weren’t fully polished and looked more like Half Life 1 as a result.
People are thinking too hard about it, it's probably just some kind of imaginary sovier republic, like in cyrillic, Belarussian soviet socialist republic would stand for БССР, Ukrainian - УССР, so Valve probably just tried to emulate that by inventing some fake soviet republic that would've started with H. You literally start out the level on a train ride so an introduction to which republic it is would kind of make sense to them and add to the post soviet mood.
I like the idea of how futile it is to beat The Combine. Even if the resistance beats The Combine the Earth has been completely decimated to the point that it is almost impossible to repair the damage.
I know it has been a year, but if the Combine ever loses the war, it would have to be either 1. They didn’t care about Earth at all and it would be like if a town with 150 people declaring independence from a country double the size of Russia Or 2. As you are already said, they did unrepairable damage to Earth. The Combine is more interesting and cooler as this unbeatable alien empire beyond human comprehension and i feel like humanity being the only ones to defeat would be just humanity jacking itself off

Talking about the deaf subject, it’d be interesting if they brought it back for Gordon. Lots of fans interpret him to be deaf/heard of hearing, hence why he doesn’t speak. Although they’d then have to animate first person sign, and that would remove weapons actions during his sign. Plus it would then remove the silent protagonist, as Gordon would then have dialogue... hm. In second thought, I don’t think they would.
hlvrai is "other thing", and it's not based on the original half-life story (of the guys who made it only 1 knew the what half-life was about). So hlvrai could have their own iceberg haha
There was one thing you still missed and that was the "Who's playing piano?" part It doesn't refer to the piano playing in half life alyx but rather an ambient sound heard in the citadel in half life 2 (citadel_ambient_voices1.wav) which sounds like a distorted recording of a jazz piano being played in a restaurant or bar
While I appreciate the “G-Man is an Advisor” theory, I think it’d be incredibly lame from a storytelling standpoint if his species and employers were already known. It’s horrifying to think that he may be employed by some group infinitely more powerful than the Combine to an end infinitely more obscure.

I think we can know WHO the employers are without them explaining every little detail about them to ruin any kind of suspense. Just saying "the employers exist, but you'll never see them because boo!" is lame.
"It's all a simulation" I'm 100% sure that is incorrect. Since that text that appears must be something that the G-man wrote and gave to his employers about why Gordon (or any other individual he hired) failed, and sometimes, died.
freeman isn't powerful. the gman himself all but flat out tells alyx this in half life alyx when she frees him. this is further supported by the fact that freeman was pretty unremarkable outside of his academic pursuits before the gman got involved with his life. "the right man" doesn't mean a powerful person, it just means the "right" person. what causes freeman to be able to "make all of the difference in the world" is his possession of certain qualities that gman is able to exploit through his ability of placing freeman at the "wrong place" at the right time and his ability to "nudge" things in freeman's (and by extension his own) favor. freeman is basically a lose bolt that gman puts into just the wrong place to cause massive consequences in the large and complicated machine that is the universe.
I always theorized that Lost Coast took place when Gordon and Alyx are stuck in the teleportation void for a week by the slow teleport in Nova Prospekt.

If G-man is an Advisor, who then are his "employers"? He talks about them in the whole series. I think G-man and his Employers are a fully different alien race whose goal is to use mankind as a fighting force against their enemies - Combine, and against the Xen aliens (particularly Nihilanth) to gain control over the Vortiguants for their psychic powers.
I think valve is very aware of the story situation regarding Laidlaw releasing the story. Thinking about it: making a story that everyone already knows about isn’t really fun or profitable. (Take HL2beta as a good example - they scrapped it almost completely) So they took into account the possibilities of continuing the story without discrediting what Laidlaw had sated. Based on what Eli is saying, he is very aware that G-man took Alyx, and it is now a priority to get her back. So a clone would just complicate the story and pacing, I highly doubt valve would waste time working around something that sounds like it would take more than one game to explain. Knowing them, I am probably right. Idk if they are still going to prevent the borealis. But based on Laidlaw’s story, seems like no matter what happens, Gordon is no longer G-man’s interest. As the events that take place after white forest are directly against G-man’s intentions.
That's actually one of the reasons the recordings are disputed to begin with. The Soviet Cosmos programs during The Space Race only used individuals capable of fluently speaking the Russian language, yet in all the recordings it's very clearly that non of the cosmonauts knew Russian as a primary language for them.
I'd like to share my 2 cents, i don't mind people calling me crazy and such, i also don't know if this has been said before, but, what if G-Man's employers are us, the players, think about it for a second. We get to control Gordon & Alyx, but at the begining of Half-Life we see Gordon's personal data shown on the screen, during the game we see the chapter's names, should we fail a part we see a termination cause, at the end of the game we get to see the closing of said report, so that makes me think that we, the players, are G-Man's employers, since we adquired the game, put money to get to play it, we're paying to "our (imaginary) employee". Great Video!
Half-Life 2 is one of my all time favorite games, Valve has truly made a a timeless classic, the story is so deep, even after all these years still new things to be found, hidden details that add to the lore, the world building is on another level, being immersed in the world, it truly feels like you are in it, The G-Man such a deep, mysterious character, we don’t know who how is, his motives, the fight against the Combine, the gameplay is top notch, the use of the Gravity Gun, environmental physics, just a masterpiece game, Valve are among the best developers in the industry, really hope they make a part 3 some day 👏👏👏

All these "theories" for the ending of HLA only highlights the problems inherent in the ending. Apologists are making up things like a cloned Alyx or an Alyx with a wiped memory in an attempt to fix the paradox that kidnapping a teen Alyx poses for the rest of the story.

What if the Half-Life: Alyx timeline was the timeline where Gordon Freeman decided to reject the G-Man’s job opportunity in Half-Life? It happened after the events of Half-Life but before the events of Half-Life 2, so could that make sense? Honestly, don't like that theory. HL1 tram ride basically destroys it, as well as HLA.
I think that it is G-Man making a report on Gordon's background and behavior, and in Episode 2 when the Vortigaunts stop G-Man's control over Gordon, the messeges come from the Vorts' perspective.
It's in the main game too if an important NPC dies. For example a Barney in Surface Tension that is required to open both inifinite healing doors.

Here's another explanation considering that one line the All-Seeing Vortigaunt says. The line that goes something like "Eyes far away see through yours".
Assuming the All-Seeing Vortigaunt isn't breaking the fourth wall and referring directly to the player, it could be that the 'text report' that flashes on the screen is meant to provide information about the subject to the ones looking through the subject's eyes in order to evaluate them. Possibly the G-man's employers.

Not really "retconned", as they were never part of the core HL story and weren't created by the main writer. I can imagine Laidlaw taking some inspiration from them, but I think it's just as probable that both are simply based on the historical colonialism, which sci-fi writers often allude to when depicting alien civilizations interacting with humanity.

i respect you and all, but the only worse hottake i've seen is when one guy was trying to convince me that the Eridians from Borderlands franchise were actually a giant expansion on the concept of Race X.
What's stupid is that he was right only to a certain point. the final boss in BL1, The Destroyer was very likely inspired by the Gene Worm. Both are very simular in design (except one isnt just a fucking bullet sponge, jesus christ.), they are both a tentacle monster that comes out of a giant portal and they both seem to only have a part of their body sticking out of the portal. But that's kinda about it.

I mean there’s the Stalkers for goodness sake. I get why people like Gabe and that 12 year old liked the idea. At the same time though, most of Half Life’s horror revolves around the near hopeless situation, the aliens and topics like body dysmorphia. Horror revolving around sexuality and isn’t really something that’s been covered in Half Life (unless the suppression field counts???). It’s a step in a different direction, which is probably why some people liked it and others don’t.

I've seen that. There are multiple Nihilanth, not just one, so the theory goes that one of them is the G-Man in Human form, since they have almost unlimited capabilities. Another theory of the same type is that G-Man is an Advisor projecting himself as a human, which I personally believe more. Also Ted Backman stated that the Advisors "were once a race not unlike humans".
And Breen is the Advisor seen in the beginning of Episode 1 when Alyx and Gordon venture back inside the deteriorating Citadel.

and in ep2 when G-man is restrained by the vorts, the message is displayed in typical "vortigaunt speak" (ie. more cryptic, referring to 'the freeman' etc.) instead of the 'Subject, Status, Assignment' format associated with G-man
In Half Life: Opposing force, the last thing Corporal Shepard is told by the G-Man is that the G-Man isn't allowed to "Close my report on the matter without tying up all... loose ends." He specifies this means shepard, and while the G-Man liked shepard and wanted to employ him, his employers would only allow them to detain shepard. It is VERY MUCH not even implied, but OVERTLY STATED that he is writing reports. The final "report" on shepard indicated shepard was "detained".
It's not even an "idea". This is one of the easiest to confirm things in the half life series. You ARE 10000% seeing the start to G-Man's reports.

Actually, Laidlaw has said many times his rejection of conventional ideas of "canon". He only said Race X doesn't apply to HIS thinking about the universe, as in his thought process when he writes. So Race X is just about as canon as Alyx since it wasn't his ideas.

@@cj-3810 ok and? gordons marksmanship abilities, tactical thinking skills, and raw courage are all completely unenhanced by the suit. an ordinairy man wearing the HEV would most likely have died in the black mesa incident unless they got very lucky. (and if they had to fight all ghe same enemies and traverse all the same hazards gordon did? forget it.) also even with the shielding the suit provides you can still die in half life pretty quickly when exposed to gunfire, psionic attacks by vorts and houndeyes, and various environmental hazards. count how many times you die in an average hard mode playthrough of half life and if its any higher than 0, you could not have done what freeman did.
I honestly believe this about the timelines thing: No one really knows how time travels work irl right? People know it's possible, but they dont know how it would affect time and space. So I think it's better for us to not think too precisely about how the HLA ending affected HL2.
Imo, what happened was: Gman told Gordon in HL2EP2 to take Alyx to White Forest so she could witness her father's death, and be there at the exact moment that it happened. With this happening, he could use that specific scene as a "show" for Alyx in the past, so that she could get emotional and accept Gman's offer without thinking about the unforseen consequences (you can even notice that in the ending of HLA the scene where you see Eli's death is like a stage, with a big spotlight aiming towards Alyx hugging her father's corpse, just like a theater).
So he goes back in time, gets imprisoned on purpose knowing that Alyx would try to enter the vault. By doing that, he would be able to show her that specific "show" scene, causing her to accept his offer without knowing that the price would be working for him.
When she kills the advisor in the ending of HLA, in my point of view, it is as if the Alyx from the past teleported to the future and killed the advisor right at the ending of hl2ep2. But, with her being now in stasis, it wouldnt be possible for her to be at the same time in our dimension (im considering the "stasis" as an another dimension), so she simply disappears at the ending of hl2ep2.
This DOESNT mean however, that all of the stuff that happened in hl2 ended up not happening, it did, but when gman putt 19 yo alyx into stasis, it would be a paradox for her to be on earth in the ending of hl2ep2, so the universe simply makes her "disappear" as a consequence of what happened. This is shown in the post credits scene, where Eli simply says "she's gone", she simply vanished because it wouldnt make sense for her to be in 2 different dimensions at the same time. Also, when you kill the advisor in the ending of HLA, you can see Eli falling, then looking side to side, looking for Alyx desperately.
Too confusing right? That's why I think we shouldnt think TOO much about all of that.

From a story perspective, he is bewildered by her sudden disappearance. From a disciplined creative standpoint, dialogue must explicitly move the story forward; filler is a waste of screentime. The reason her absence is emphasized is to drive home the fact that the Alyx we fought alongside and bonded with in HL2 and its episodes is no more. She's GONE. Only the version of Alyx from the VR game exists, now, and she is employed by the G-Man, 5 years in the making.
"As a consequence of your action, this entity will continue, and this entity will not."
Not only is G-Man refering to Eli and the Advisor, respectively, but also to both versions of Alyx: VR Alyx will continue, and Half-Life 2 Alyx will not.
Yeah, this actually sounds pretty on point.
Could be that there are now two copies of Alyx, either a complete split or the lines or perhaps one took the place of the other, assuming you see time trav as a linear line, and not an endless route of options and outcomes. Supposing that the Alyx now, is the alyx from the past and knows nothing of any future event, and that maybe there is still an alyx somewhere else

Noone ever mentions the light year jump in quality and presentation from beta leaks to retail release. It didn't feel like a beta, it felt like half life 1. Upon release, though, it was a whole other game.
They did scrap the beta to focus on facial animations.They probably decided to utilize the new engine to its fullest intent, allowing them to make up for the lack of enemy variety and such, with scripted sequences, dialogue, and physics. Kind of like Left 4 Dead (minus the physics).
Then again, the beta *was* a beta. So things weren’t fully polished and looked more like Half Life 1 as a result.

People are thinking too hard about it, it's probably just some kind of imaginary sovier republic, like in cyrillic, Belarussian soviet socialist republic would stand for БССР, Ukrainian - УССР, so Valve probably just tried to emulate that by inventing some fake soviet republic that would've started with H. You literally start out the level on a train ride so an introduction to which republic it is would kind of make sense to them and add to the post soviet mood.

I like the idea of how futile it is to beat The Combine. Even if the resistance beats The Combine the Earth has been completely decimated to the point that it is almost impossible to repair the damage.
I know it has been a year, but if the Combine ever loses the war, it would have to be either
1. They didn’t care about Earth at all and it would be like if a town with 150 people declaring independence from a country double the size of Russia

2. As you are already said, they did unrepairable damage to Earth.
The Combine is more interesting and cooler as this unbeatable alien empire beyond human comprehension and i feel like humanity being the only ones to defeat would be just humanity jacking itself off

Talking about the deaf subject, it’d be interesting if they brought it back for Gordon. Lots of fans interpret him to be deaf/heard of hearing, hence why he doesn’t speak. Although they’d then have to animate first person sign, and that would remove weapons actions during his sign. Plus it would then remove the silent protagonist, as Gordon would then have dialogue... hm. In second thought, I don’t think they would.

It doesn't refer to the piano playing in half life alyx but rather an ambient sound heard in the citadel in half life 2 (citadel_ambient_voices1.wav) which sounds like a distorted recording of a jazz piano being played in a restaurant or bar
While I appreciate the “G-Man is an Advisor” theory, I think it’d be incredibly lame from a storytelling standpoint if his species and employers were already known. It’s horrifying to think that he may be employed by some group infinitely more powerful than the Combine to an end infinitely more obscure.

freeman isn't powerful. the gman himself all but flat out tells alyx this in half life alyx when she frees him. this is further supported by the fact that freeman was pretty unremarkable outside of his academic pursuits before the gman got involved with his life. "the right man" doesn't mean a powerful person, it just means the "right" person. what causes freeman to be able to "make all of the difference in the world" is his possession of certain qualities that gman is able to exploit through his ability of placing freeman at the "wrong place" at the right time and his ability to "nudge" things in freeman's (and by extension his own) favor. freeman is basically a lose bolt that gman puts into just the wrong place to cause massive consequences in the large and complicated machine that is the universe.
I always theorized that Lost Coast took place when Gordon and Alyx are stuck in the teleportation void for a week by the slow teleport in Nova Prospekt.

If G-man is an Advisor, who then are his "employers"? He talks about them in the whole series. I think G-man and his Employers are a fully different alien race whose goal is to use mankind as a fighting force against their enemies - Combine, and against the Xen aliens (particularly Nihilanth) to gain control over the Vortiguants for their psychic powers.
Evidence for this? It's much more likely that the G-Man's employers are simply other Hatched Shau'ulathoi
I think valve is very aware of the story situation regarding Laidlaw releasing the story. Thinking about it: making a story that everyone already knows about isn’t really fun or profitable. (Take HL2beta as a good example - they scrapped it almost completely) So they took into account the possibilities of continuing the story without discrediting what Laidlaw had sated.
Based on what Eli is saying, he is very aware that G-man took Alyx, and it is now a priority to get her back. So a clone would just complicate the story and pacing, I highly doubt valve would waste time working around something that sounds like it would take more than one game to explain. Knowing them, I am probably right.
Idk if they are still going to prevent the borealis. But based on Laidlaw’s story, seems like no matter what happens, Gordon is no longer G-man’s interest. As the events that take place after white forest are directly against G-man’s intentions.

That's actually one of the reasons the recordings are disputed to begin with. The Soviet Cosmos programs during The Space Race only used individuals capable of fluently speaking the Russian language, yet in all the recordings it's very clearly that non of the cosmonauts knew Russian as a primary language for them.
I'd like to share my 2 cents, i don't mind people calling me crazy and such, i also don't know if this has been said before, but, what if G-Man's employers are us, the players, think about it for a second. We get to control Gordon & Alyx, but at the begining of Half-Life we see Gordon's personal data shown on the screen, during the game we see the chapter's names, should we fail a part we see a termination cause, at the end of the game we get to see the closing of said report, so that makes me think that we, the players, are G-Man's employers, since we adquired the game, put money to get to play it, we're paying to "our (imaginary) employee".

Half-Life 2 is one of my all time favorite games, Valve has truly made a a timeless classic, the story is so deep, even after all these years still new things to be found, hidden details that add to the lore, the world building is on another level, being immersed in the world, it truly feels like you are in it, The G-Man such a deep, mysterious character, we don’t know who how is, his motives, the fight against the Combine, the gameplay is top notch, the use of the Gravity Gun, environmental physics, just a masterpiece game, Valve are among the best developers in the industry, really hope they make a part 3 some day 👏👏👏
clone alyx theory is dumb. Epistle 3 is the end of the original timeline. Valve had nowhere to go from there, so they made a new one.

All these "theories" for the ending of HLA only highlights the problems inherent in the ending. Apologists are making up things like a cloned Alyx or an Alyx with a wiped memory in an attempt to fix the paradox that kidnapping a teen Alyx poses for the rest of the story.
