How To Cast a Spinning Rod & Reel for Beginners

- How to cast a spinning rod and reel for beginners. Over the years, I've taught hundreds of Bass fishermen how to cast both spinning reels and baitcasters. Many novice anglers begin their fishing journeys with a spinning rod and reel. Why? Because it's easier to learn to use than a baitcasting reel. However, there is still a technique to it. In this how to video, I'll show you:
1. How to hold a spinning rod
2. How to position your casting hand
3. How to prevent mishaps when casting a spinning rod and reel
4. How to control your cast when fishing a cast with a spinning rod and reel
This video is meant for beginners. However, it may help some intermediate fishermen that have never had an opportunity to receive proper instruction.
Let me know what you think...
Also, I apologize for the slight sound issues. I was having problems with my mic.

I can't believe that I waited until I'm over 40 to start fishing 😩, I've been missing out lol. I love fishing now
You’re not alone Bruce. I’m 40 and just bought my rod yesterday.. Better late than never. I’m a firearms guy who loves taking waterfowl and hogs. So I don’t think I completely missed out😁
Same here 41 just started and I’m hooked
Dude! I'm 59 and just really getting into it. Love it!
Bro im 42 I just started a week ago SMDFH
51 here thinking about starting myself
Growing up, I’ve always had a rod with an easy cast button on it. Your video helped me learn the other rod and catch a 13 lb catfish first day out 👍🏼
i accidentally catched a dolphin on my stick and it broke 😩

That's a great video. I'm 58 and have never fished but just moved to a very sweet spot where I can do it every day. It's intimidating to have such basic questions and this kind of video helps make sure that the sport is accessible to as many people as possible.
I appreciate it! Glad I could help
Hello I'm 65 just beginning to fish learning after years.
@@juliusstewart696 im 59 just starting myself
This video contains important information. I learned from it and I have fished for many years. That part about Opening--The--Bail--Away--From--You was a revelation that many fishermen will benefit from. I never even heard of that before, and some of my casts lead to entanglements that I never quite understood. You one smart fella Chuck Pippin!
Read the title and was gonna skip this one for obvious reasons. Then I thought about it and called my son over and we watched it together so he could pick some correct technique. Thank you sir.
A lot of people have skipped it. Lol. Worst amount of views I’ve had for a video in 3 years.
Started up 🎣 fishing. Haven't been since I was a kid fishing with my mom. Decided to buy a pole yesterday on her birthday. She would've been 85yrs. old. I think she's trying to tell me to find simple joys in nature again... who knows, but I will always think of her while I'm on the water. Thank you!
I loved fishing as a kid but used a closed face reel back in the day. I’m planning to pickup the hobby again this summer after 30 years and appreciate the pointers on how to cast a spinner reel.
I started fishing very young but stopped about 12yrs ago. All I used was a basic closed reel rod. Thought I’d try something new like this spinner style. I found this video to be highly informative and very easy to follow.
Awesome... been fighting old mono all afternoon.... loops, twists, unbelievable stress... wasn't any relaxing in my world. Your video was beautiful. I suppose, I need to invest in braided
I don't usually comment on YT videos, but thanks for posting this. I figure a lot of pro's wouldn't feel like they're really doing something worthwhile introducing people to what could be seen as a ubiquitous sport, but I think you just filled in some of my blank spots in learning. I just started at 40, much like a few of your other viewers. I'm looking forward to getting better a tall of it.
Thanks Jacob! Glad I could help. Thanks for watching

I have what I call a 60/30 rod and open face reel, but it goes up 60 feet, out 30, unless I use a side arm cast. I try letting the line go at different times, but overhand casts don't work well. The tips in this video will help a lot. Thanks Chuck.
Very nice Chuck, been up in the NW for 30 years with fly rods, great video, back in the south and your video is very helpful, just getting back into the spinner casting environment. Greatly appreciated, nice video. Thank you
JAK

You’re definitely welcome. Glad I could help.
Very good instruction, thanks for the video
First video I have seen that clearly explained how to cast with spinning reel. In hindsight it is stupid but I never knew to let go of the line from my index finger! After many tangled balls of line I figured this out thru trial and mas errors.
Dam I have been doing the casting all wrong, Thanks for the tips now cant wait trying the new technique. Sydney Aus. 🙏
Thanks. Let me know how it works
Thank you sir ! Gave me more hope for today !
You’re welcome! 👍🏻
Very helpful, thank you!
Thanks for addressing the manual release of the bail after casting 4:45. Folks seem to not clarify that technique or why manually doing so is beneficial.
I appreciate that

Algeria! That’s awesome! Glad I could help.
Awesome video, thanks!!
Need to show how to switch the crank to the right side, like all fishing reels set up for right handed fisherman. Why would you give up the control and precision of using your dominant hand?
Thanks
Thanks so much for the tips. My dads tips are the exact same as yours, the old man was right.
Thank you😊😊😊😊
Nice!
You very good teacher I like❤
Thanks for that 👍

Watched the video and just read the comments. Hopefully Hartwell is treating you well sir
kehi66 practice was insane, but I tanked on day 2 of the tournament. Part 1 of my lake Hartwell video is up now.
Thank you!!😘😘
thanks man
After I cast my line, I have to hold onto the line with one hand and my pole with the other hand, because I'm blind. This way, I feel the bite. By the way, I have a Shimano 7ft spin-rod and reel combo, that I've just purchassed for the upcomming fishing season come Spring time! Thanks for the tip on what line to get! I will be I will be building up my tackle in the interim period.
Awesome!!
Thanks! 👍🏻
thank you sir

GOOD TIPS YO
🙌🏼
Indeed those wind knots in loops can cause problems quick. Thanks for the tips chuck!
Thanks! 👍🏻
I am from Pakistan. Its greag to watch but still sbow a smallest video showing easy way to cast
whats a good decent priced beginner rail for caatching trout, red fish in a lake
First timer here...bought an economical rod and reel wanting to know how much weight to put and where to place the bober and hook
Great instruction, thank you! One issue I have is the line still slips from my index finger unless I pinch it against the grip. Any suggestions?
Maybe try and tighten the drag
Really good video...
It's funny how no one really explains the finger holding the line part and when to release the line with your finger when casting.
It's very difficult to see on the videos
Watching from philippines stay safe and godbless done subscribe master
I've always used a closed covered zepco. Never was able to use open reels. I need to learn.
Spinning reels are pretty easy to get used to.
I watched it because I wanted to see if I had any bad techniques. So far I do exactly as you showed. The one thing I have started in the last couple years when I do throw a spinner is the manual flipping of the bail. I never used to do that and then started to. I also use my left hand to feather and then palm the line as opposed to my right index finger. Thanks Chuck for all your videos. Had another tough weekend on the lake this weekend. Lake Russell, S.C. wind was blowing 20-30Kt and it made for a tough day of fishing. 9 and change won the tourney....i bagged 2 for a total weight of 2.46
Racerxv6 Valvoline thanks! I’m actually up at Hartwell in SC right now practicing for the BASS Open that starts on Wednesday. Super windy the past couple days.
@@ChuckPippinBassFishing Tear them up Chuck,,,,Wish I could come say hello but work is getting in the way.....your onl;y 15 minutes from me...
will you be fishing all three days. if so, I'll try to make the final day weigh in
Jezuz he reminds me of my battalion commander. First SGT pippin.
I get this.. Had a Commander with the same speaking cadence and posture.
Ummm his last name is Pippin
How do I stop casting and ending my cast with a lot of slack. I’ll manually flip the bale but it has too much slack to just start reeling
My boyfriend is trying to teach me to cast, my problem is timing. He holds the line differently, but I think your way w ould help me more. I just need to know, when do you realeasr the line from your finger?
That’s a difficult question to answer. But yes, it’s all about timing. It’s something you’ll just figure out one day. The best thing is to just try not to think about it too much. Keep practicing and you’ll get the feel for it.
How do you fish for eels in the grass?
Loops/birdsnest.... loosen the drag all the way and pull the line off slowly until the loop comes out, this works usually.
chuck be pippin ... pimping haha
Lol. Pippin ain’t easy
Wow, just learned a lot of things. Especially the last one. I always waited till the line ran out. But it always bounced back lol.

What's a good fishing rod that's not epensive?
13 Fishing Fate Black or the Defy Black. Both good and inexpensive
I use my left hand to stop the line when I see it's gonna overshoot my target.
What rod
Sir, Which rod it is.? Please write your rod's name and price .
He tells the name and cost in the video, did you listen?
Hopefully I can finally catch a fish
same
One of these days ill own a van staal. The bail drives me nuts!
