- SAKHA, mentored by Percussion Maestro Taufiq Qureshi on the #LifeIsMusic competition, won the contest when the results were announced at the end of Episode 12 last week. This week, the band performs along with the three maestros, Louiz Banks, Purbayan Chatterjee and Taufiq Qureshi as well as Bass prodigy Mohini Dey and recreates the magic of Pace of Mind.
Listen to the sounds of the Sarod, Sitar, Electric and Bass Guitar mix well with the Drums that complement the stringed instruments. Also watch out for the melodic jugalbandi between Taufiq Qureshi on the Drums and Keyur Barve on the Djembe in this composition. Don't miss Purbayan Chatterjee's ace-Sitar-playing in Pace of Mind Version 2.

Mohini Dey is one naturally talented young lady! To her credit, she had a good teacher, her father as she was growing up. Once she realized she had it in her, she ventured out on her own creating her own style of playing the bass. Now, the world is recognizing her talent and the fans are growing..... where does it all end for Mohini Dey? I pray that she doesnt get sweapt by the intoxication on stage with her passion for performing and end up in ruining her health!! May God help her and keep her focus on her health more than enything else!!

This is a recording of the highest order for out standing performance by Sitar player , sarod player, Guitarist and base guitar maestro Mohini dey. The percussion jugalabandi is out of world. The young boy is awesome
If you're a beginner musician; you're in shock and awe. If you're a well studied and experienced musician; you're in shock and awe. If you're just a listener and don't know much about the art of music; you're in shock and awe. This is truly awesome and I say this as an educated drummer who has been playing for almost 50 years now and I have been around the block a coupe of times.

Well damn, hard assed Indian funk acid jazz but stone sober and it's 80 in the studio but no one broke a sweat in a 15 min set. 🤯

Finally, found a video of Mohini Dey which doesn't just have her shredding the entire time. If she has control over it, she should promote these far more. They are so much more enjoyable to listen to. It's nice to know she can also just lay down a groove.
These are great musicians, a real treat. Very happy to hear great jazz coming out of India, blending the traditions seamlessly.

Mohini is absolutely fantastic on the bass. I think what’s not getting enough love is equal parts the sitar and the freaking PERCUSSION - holy crap that’s some juicy virtuosic groove those two were doing together.

Some of the best Indian Jazz Rock Fusion I have ever heard. Although I didn't even know that genre existed until a week or so ago.

Everybody ate their Wheaties here! A prodigious amount of notes and technical mastery - worth the listen just on that account. Can't help hearing strings of mathematical code and electronica, but somebody has to take these instruments to these crazy heights. As an American, I really enjoy the exposure to eastern instruments and phrasing. True "fusion" on many levels.

I love this. I am a jazz playing sax player from USA and this stuff is awesome, to my ears. I love the looks of pure concentration and joy they have on their faces as they enjoy what they are doing and while they create this virtuoso and completely soulful music! Mohini doesn't look bored, she looks totally focussed and in the zone of this complex and beautiful music!

Wow! Mohini is beyond brilliant. The BEST in the world!!
This is the 2nd time I’ve seen this sitar player. He’s very talented certainly and understands jazz theory equally with Indian classical music (as it seems to me, someone who knows jazz pretty well but Indian classical hardly at all). But he kinda drives me crazy with his Constant looking to everyone else, esp. the electric guitarist for Approval; like he’s Constantly saying, “Is THIS good? How about That? Listen to This, if you liked that”. He’s someone who had a Very Controlling Mother. But hey, we all have problems. He’s a very interesting player. Clearly Indian jazz fusion is Exploding right now. IT’S SO GREAT TO HEAR SOMETHING NEW.
