I think my favorite moment from this story arc is when Green Arrow and Batman are in the Bat-plane and Oliver is listing off the things he used to have: the Arrow-plane, the Arrow-mobile, and the Arrow cave. Then Batman quickly retorts "Good God, did you ever have an original idea in your life?" or something along those lines.
Years before this was made, Kevin Smith did an interview in Wizard or somewhere and asked who he would like to write if he wrote for DC, and he said "Green Arrow" and even mentioned "I got a great idea how to bring back Oliver from the dead if they let me." So that's what we got
I think my favorite part of every backissues is when sal makes the other two go "ooooooooOOHHHHHHHHHHH" about something he finally revealed the final piece of the puzzle for a story to. swear to god, its in every one haha.
I wonder if there's ever been an exploration in comics between characters who have "died" before, all sharing their experiences and the conditions for their return. I feel like the fallout of Secret Invasion or Blackest Night could have done this.
@@tjjordan4207yeah in the first episode right after they defeat all the ice themed villains and before they enter the hall of justice paparazzi says it
I love you guys, i love this channel, ComicPop! Is my all time favorite channel on UA-cam. Keep up the amazing work your videos are what gets me through my lunch breaks and regular breaks at work and school. Thanks Sal you're awesome
Yeeees finally a story on the Green Arrow. Thanks guys. Hope you can do Year One in the future. P.S. I love your Kevin Smith impression Sal. Loool Spot On.
There actually is a character who loses his hand and has it replaced with a repeater crossbow. It's also a cannon. He also swings a big ass sword around. He's kind of a big deal. I'm sorry. I let my otaku slip.
I think Nock a pretty good name of a Green Arrow side kick and here's why: The nock keeps the arrow in place and steady while the arrow is being drawn back. Also, the nock is on the rear of the arrow so it could be as though his partner always has his back. Or keeps him on a straight path of not going dark and gritty, possibly slapping him on the back of the head if he ever puts a hood on again.
If you guys ever watched young justice, the first episode when they're goin into the hall of justice you hear the reporters in the background talking about the sidekicks names and how some don't make sense....
He is better now in Rebirth. Lemire I had high hopes for, but it got too gritty and stupid. I hated all the Clan crap, the shield clan, the sword clan, the fly swatter clan, it was very dumb. I dont like when they try to explain a characters "powers" too much, that shouldnt have an origin like that. It reminded me of when Spider-Man was like always destined to have spider powers because he was like an avatar of a spider god or some bullshit. He is awesome now though, they brought back his liberal roots, AND the goatee. AND BLACK CANARY.
+ComicPop! Another brilliant obscure impersonation Sal! Fred MacMurray from the film Pet Semetary! Its like the Pepperidge Farm Guy! "Remember those good ol days when you could possess a hollow and make plans to rape a teenage Star City prostitute? Well Pepperidge Farm remembers! And so does Kevin Smith." Great episode guys, keep it coming! lol Better sidekick name: Projectile? or Torque? or dare i say it: Quiver, because you need to train and 'fill up' your sidekick with knowledge? lol
Kobe Walsh He said it just in time too, I was just about to run out and get some heroine thinking it would get me in as a Green Arrow sidekick. So thanks Sal, you saved my life.
I always liked red arrow & arsenal but you guys said little Jon so I'll say quiver not bc of this episode but it would work well. "Oh no they captured quiver! " Also name for the comic about that kid and his hallow monster " My pet monster" bc nostalgia
Green Arrow's sidekick should be named Quiver. Cause when you're first Ollie's sidekick-in-training, he makes you hold all his shit while you observe. Also, it just sounds fucking rad and is the only reference to archery that everyone in the world knows.
J Richards Also, Quiver should do nothing but follow Green Arrow around carrying hundreds of various trick arrows, handing them to him when he needs one. "I had so many of these stupid things that I had to hire a guy."
I'll have to reread this. I read this back in the day and remembering liking it overall but thinking some of the Writing choices were a tad mystifying...details elude me.
His sidekick should be called Green Green Arrow, because they are green to being being the Green Arrow...Green! Hey, are you ever going to do that Dr Strange, The Oath? No pressure, just you mentioned it some years agone...hang on, if Green Arrow's sidekick specialized in pole weapons, for varieties sake, they could be called Spearmint, because.
Think this is a special comic for me because I'm pretty sure this is the first trade i ever read. Knew nothing about the Arrow but really got into him after this
*Red Bolt* would be a cool name... It goes with his naming convention, his sidekick is known for wearing red, and bolt is another name for arrow but can be conventionally smaller
I think he should be called Fletch; the Fletch is a feather or piece used on the end of an arrow that helps to balance and stabilize it. Fletch would work well for Roy's character since he is essentially a rock for Oliver to lean on during conflicts. The neglect of a fletch(like Oliver's neglect of Roy) leads to a more difficult arrow to fire(Oliver working alone after having Roy by his side).
I love this show. You guys should do Jupiter's Legacy by Mark Millar. For Speedy's name it could be either Cross Bow or Long Bow. Then you could have the Bow and Arrow. I really like the name arsenal.
In the hard cover version Smith says that he was about halfway through it when DC asked him to resurrect Ollie. Apparently the hollow was just going to die in the original ending
With the whole _Superman not washing his costume thing..._ I think they're forgetting that Superman doesn't sweat. Being Superman has many perks for Superman has many powers...
what about CROSSBOW...? that's a cool name for a sidekick. plus, it's not a name like "robin" or "kid flash" so even when they get older and strike out on their own, they can keep the name if they choose and aren't forced to change it to something "edgy and cool". plus: arrows...crossbows...i think it fits
Fletchling because he's like the feather at the end of the arrow. He follows right behind the arrow (Green) like a sidekick should. He also makes sure that the arrow flies straight. No getting sidetracked.
Could call the character "Nock-out" a pun off to he nock of an arrow. His civilian persona could be Will Teller ( named for the Swiss legend of William Tell).
I laughed so HARD at work!! "Here for the orgies, Stayed for the religion" I really want to meme that, but I know I should leave it alone. So funny though.
I think GA's sidekick should have been called Fletcher. I envision her as a Oliver Twist style street urchin with a knack for getting into and out of trouble. She would be a natural pick pocket, spy, and adept at the fast talking con game. She would create an interesting dynamic with Oli as he was born rich and learnt the value of money while Fletcher was born poor and would find it difficult to adjust to being the ward of Mr Queen.
I know this is a little late, but I would have called him Fletching or Fletch for short a Fletching keeps an Arrow flying straight and stabilizes it. Batman needs Robin to balance out his darkness, Green Arrow needs Fletch to keep him on the straight and narrow. Or, better yet, "Flechette" a smaller, sharper projectile in the shape of an arrow that can be thrown like a knife. Given that G.A's sidekicks are all shorter, weaker and younger. This would make sense.
Well if Superman is really really strong and has all of this energy and stamina he won't sweat from working out, and if he can fly into the Sun you won't sweat because its hot, so maybe she doesn't need to wash his outfit. And any dirt and stuff that gets on there he just flies really fast and it blows off.
Sidekick ideas: Guillaume Rouge (a french Will Scarlet), The Fight'n Friar Tuck, The Bowyer (or Fletcher-but someone already said that) could make him cool stuff. Or he could just team up with Shaft (Little Jon Shaft?)
I always wondered why Ollie’s sidekicks weren’t named Scarlet like Robin Hood’s actual Red theme sidekicks named Will Scarlet. Especially since his Zorro is Errol Flynn’s Adventures of Robin Hood where Will is literally Robins sidekick.
Arbalest - A late variation of the crossbow that came into use in Europe during the 12th century or Quarrel (equipment) - A crossbow projectile; also called a bolt
So Arrow just recently introduced Stanley Dover, he was the weaselly Little guy that was always hanging onto Ollie in prison. It's nothing like this Stanley (or Stuart! LOL), but I thought it was pretty awesome!
Green Arrow's sidekick should be more of an Alfred type. He can direct Ollie from a centralized location (like the bat cave) and inform Ollie on where a crime is being committed, and the best route to get there, so Ollie doesn't have to worry about all the little details and just worry about stopping the criminal. They always argue about their ideologies and are usually sick of each other but they both know they work well together. Plus Beaux drives the general lee from dukes of hazard because it makes Ollie mad. Boom. Beaux and Arrow.
Personally, I like the name 'Swift' for Green Arrow's sidekick. To me it invokes imagery of an arrow quickly and precisely finding a target without necessarily implying that the wielder of that arrow is as fast as the Flash. I think Speedy suffers in that regard, but Swift does not; it sounds professional and makes me think of a character that can think on his feet and use his weapon flawlessly, whereas Speedy makes me think of a 'speedster.' I also think Swift could carry that name as he matured into his own hero without feeling like an overgrown sidekick.
I'm gonna semi brown nose and stick with the robin hood theme :p I think simply changing the sometimes used Red Arrow name to the Scarlet Arrow as an homage to the Merry Man Will Scarlet would be great. Hes young, brash, and wears red. Also just found the channel and already hooked, it's just like when I try and explain comics to my friends when they want to see the latest movie or I drag them to a random con.
Great episode i laughed the whole time. And as for a new name for speedy or arsenal how about just "Ammo" to reference the diferent kind of long range weapons he could have not just arrows, well any way fantastic episode keep them coming.
I think the reason that there were no continuing adventures of Stanley and the Monster was that while DC knew there were fans of the two, there probably wouldn't be enough to sustain an ongoing title, at least not at that point in time. Which sucked for fans of the classic Stanley and His Monster series. Stanley's grandson and the beast with no name are a nod to 60's humor/horror comic Stanley and his Monster by Doom Patrol creator Arnold Drake
You could say this story really hits the mark. That's right, Dad jokes and I am not even a dad.
They show Jason Todd in heaven! Which contradicts Under The Red Hood, but it was a cute moment :)
So the Red Hood is hollow?
No it doesn't. When superboy prime punches reality it changes things. Up until that punch Jason Todd was dead dead
@@pebblebrookbooks4852 that actually would be an interesting then for them to do for a story at one point though.

Alternate name for green arrow's sidekick "target", the same name batman wants to give to all of his sidekicks
Right before Sal said "reasons..." I said the same thing aloud, then he said it. Let's just say it was an amazing moment lol XD
But the twist on the new sidekick is that he's an old grizzled Cajun man from South Louisiana, who happens to be very conservative. And his name is Beaux (pronounced Bow). He absolutely doesn't agree with Arrow's viewpoints on politics or why he does what he does, but Beaux knows that Ollie does major good by stopping crimes and helping with the league, so he feels like this is the best thing to do.
