This was so helpful. I often tell myself "just do one thing" and usually that is enough to get me moving. The biggest bugaboo in my life is seeing to the mail, I just let it pile up. Where did you get your bamboo bathroom shelf thing?
This is the first time I've seen a house that looks messy the same way mine is, and where not everything is brand new and "styled." It made me so so happy. My kitchen isn't perfectly aesthetician pleasing or brand new, but there's nothing WRONG with it and I don't have thousands of dollars lying around to change it. A cleaning video like this I can relate to!
I had the same thought! All the other "clean with me" videos I watch are made by people with all-white, minimalist decor. But Carla's kitchen looks just like mine (although my stove doesn't have that neat cover 👀 I wish it did; my cats like to cause mischief when they're stressed). It's so much more motivating when the space being cleaned looks the way your own house does, not like a showroom someone intentionally messed up just to clean it. :-)
Omg same . My room is such a disaster. I kinda feel better knowing I’m not the only one who has chaos in there . I’m so different at work though . Everything needs to be perfect . I always thought that such an odd thing . How can I be so ocd at work and at home it’s a train wreck
Yes, my thoughts exactly. I was actually trying to find a cleaning video with a house that was more relatable. All these nice new homes and new styles are all blending and looking the same. I want to see a real house with some character because that’s the kind of house I live in. Nothing wrong with the other homes, it’s just refreshing to see a home that is relatable.
It's refreshing to see a real, lived-in home. I hate when people post cleaning videos of homes that are already clean. This shows a home that is lived-in and a video that's actually motivating! Thank you! ❤️
For the first time ever on UA-cam I find someone relatable. I’m so fed up with their perfect big houses and their perfect makeup. YOU are motivational and inspiring.
I feel the same! Their houses are always huge with top of the line everything. Cleaning while looking like they are going to the club. It actually makes me less motivated. I am like doesn't anyone live in house that looks like mine or looks like I do??? So glad I found this channel!
Just wanted to say thank you for this. I’ve been an alcoholic for a very long time and always had a disgusting house. I recently quit drinking and started eating healthier and figured it’s time to finally get my house in order. Seeing something like this really helped motivate me.
Hi there! That is so awesome! My eyes are tearing now, because this is my story as well. I hope things are going well for you!😊 I'm in 7 1/2 months sober. The amount of projects and unused things I've bought is crazy. I've always worked full time, so between that and drinking, poor house, lol. However, I still come home after work and do nothing.😢 another habit I've got to get rid of.😢😢😢
@jordan2735 you are also inspiring for sharing your journey with us and are kicking old habits to the kerb! Kudos my friend and I bet you feel amazing by eating healthier and taking care of yourself and your home. Self care and love are number one! 🙏🏻🫶💐
I'm a housekeeper at a hotel/cabins. I clean all day long, more often than not, 7 days a week. But I can't manage to keep my own home clean. I always feel like a complete failure as a mother. I cry almost daily because between work and home, it's never ending. But your videos have helped me so much, knowing others struggle and have to force themselves as well. You're so relatable, and I appreciate you so much
a comment i can relate to😢 Absolutely non stop never ending circle of work, my kids, housework over and over 😢 Not tryna 'have it all' just tryna get by! x x x x x
This gave me the push i needed. I lost my dog 5 days ago. He has been with me almost my entire adult life and was my best friend. It hit me like a ton of bricks and i have been struggling to keep my surroundings tidy. So thank you for this video. It really helped me🙏🏼
So sorry to hear about your loss. I understand because I lost my cat in 2018 & while I thought I was prepared, it hit me harder than I could ever have imagined. She was 18 & a half & had been though so much with me, she was my baby & my best friend & I wouldn't change a thing about the way she went, she died in my arms & had a long happy life but I've never felt heartbreak like it. I feel guilty saying that because I've lost close family members & friends! But it was a physical pain & I seriously thought it was gonna finish me off too. I let myself sob & grieve for a couple of weeks & then I tried to carry on. Honestly it took a couple of years before I could talk about her without crying but I knew if she was looking down on me she wouldn't want me to be sad. That's what kept me going, although my home got really bad & I was just doing the basics to look after my kids for far too long. Just keep telling yourself what a great life you gave your dog & how lucky you were to be the one who was their best friend. Take your time & let yourself cry when you need to. You'll get there. 🤗
Finally! A “depression nest” that wasn’t clean before the video started! Lol. I’ve been severely depressed for months and my house has gone to hell, but over the past few days I’ve been watching cleaning videos for depression and it’s really been great motivation! Thanks for being vulnerable and transparent enough to make this! ❤❤❤
What your video did for me is realize how important it is for us to be grateful for the shelter we have and to take care of it and keep it clean and organized. This is for our mental and spiritual health. Hope your feeling better. 🙏🙏🙏❤️
“I’ve been realizing more and more that the only way my life gets better is if I am doing a lot of things that I don’t want to do.” That’s an “A-ha” quote for me - thank you!!
It's so warmly human of you to show yourself doing this. Seeing my own mess, I judge myself so harshly. But seeing your mess, I just see it as part of the process, so it helps me bring kindness to myself in those moments. We wouldn't clean if things didn't get dirty, so we cant make it wrong that things are dirty sometimes!
yes it is a natural cycle! this idea of the perfect always clean home is just not reality. glad you are showing yourself some compassion too Ciara!! xo
@@aspreckley1And it's so hard if you're a comment reader, and everyone in the comments acts like their home looks like a pristine, minimalistic art museum 24/7. I'm going to be coming back to this video regularly for sure.
This popped up on the screen and I thought, “How did she know what my house looks like!” I have 11 people coming for thanksgiving and I think I was frozen. I got up and cleaned with you! Still lots to do but I got a good start in that 20 minutes. Thank you!
How refreshing to see brutal honesty. This is my reality, in which I've felt ashamed, which caused depression, as I couldn't understand how "normal" people kept up with what to me felt so overwhelming. I'm slowly learning that self-discipline plays a huge role, something I've always struggled with. Watching UA-cam videos, I've learn to adapt new habits by always being aware of clutter causes, like daily maintenance, catch them immediately, before I lay a popsicle wrapper on the table, throw it in the trash right then, because it's all those seemingly little clutters that quickly become the overwhelming nightmare. I now have a trash can in arms reach in my living room, which helps. More difficult, DISHES, ugh, Never go to sleep with dishes in the sink, or on coffee table, was a hard habit to maintain, but it's a work in progress. My main point here was to thank you for sharing your video. This is the only video I've commented on, as although I got good tips from the ladies with nice big houses and perfect make up, I related to yours more, because you weren't all made-up, and you talked about getting the DRIVE to do it, which I struggle with, but I mean, I clicked on to your video, and I immediately saw myself and my home, lol. I just wanted to let you know how this helped motivate me, and I love the organizing tips like the clear plastic pocket hanger. I've got to get one. Keep on sharing, because people like relatable reality.
I dont always feel like doing the dishes after the evening meal and I will leave it if I am really tired. But most of the time I do them. I put some of my favorite music or I bring my computer close to watch some of my favorites channels on YT, it keeps me entertained and I barely feel like I am losing my time. Then I am surprise, they are all done and the next day I will wake up to a clean kitchen! I congratulate myself each time I do them.
When I don't feel like cleaning I just call a couple of friends or family members on zoom and we all laugh n clean our homes together. Super fun and motivating to know you are not the only one ❤
@@kelleywyskiel8513 lol I promise you it is so much fun. From the music that our friends choose to clean or dance to....to the weird interruptions from our children lol just to see someone else house a mess is whats most reassuring because I swear I think it's just me with a daily mess lol. 😅
Brilliant! Sincerely brilliant! But I would have to clean first before calling my sis's I'd be mortified. This video didn't mortifying me. I'd even have to clean before my kids came over.
Thank you for acknowledging that there a lot of reasons people can't always keep up with cleaning. I have chronic pain and battle depression so it is a struggle and so many channels never address this.
I am in the same situation as you are. I have downsized to a 1 bdrm apt and have greatly reduced my possessions/stuff. This has helped me some already and I plan on getting rid of more. My goal is to only have what I actually need and use on a regular basis. No more putting excess stuff in closets and forgetting I even have it. I will be moving soon into a just built apt and am determined to find the money in my budget to pay someone to clean at least once a month. Our struggle is real and painful…..but I am slowly accepting the changed reality of my life. As I have gotten older my motto now is basically, “it’ll be alright”. I wish you well .
I literally just sat down after what was to be a 30 minute clean that turned into a 7 hour and 12 minute deep cleaning the entire first floor of my home. I was wondering what I was going to watch and this was the first video to pop up, I so needed this!! I love you and thank you so much for sharing your realness, your rawness at a time most wouldn’t, people tend to shy away from “the real” when they’re vulnerable but you chose to share that with us and I thank you. 🥰❤️ Back to finishing the video!!!
I know this is an old video but I’m stuck at home alone with Covid and a dirty house. I’ve been too sick to clean but today I feel like I could clean in short spirts and your video has helped me get started.
This video is medicine for my soul. I’m not sure I can explain it but I just sat here and ugly cried for over 5 minutes and I feel decades lighter. 🙏✌️💕
God, your authenticity is so refreshing and makes your message so much clearer. I thank you for your simplicity (like obviously you're super pretty and your home has clear organizational tools, but still, you have this ability to wear sweats and forget sone stuff and it's amazing). Please keep it up and don't read anything negative, I truly mean all of this as a compliment and as an example for me.
Carla, Please never forget what you do for your followers as well as yourself! It’s not easy to find someone who is an incredible woman as yourself with desire to stay on a self-caring, healthy, organized path! You have a bold transparent, chill take on your desire to live the life you want! It’s not just about organizing or cleaning as much as it may seem! You are authentic, independent and a woman with ideas to lead herself to the way you want to live your life! It’s inspirational! I don’t need Pomp and circumstance! You show us how you think and how you want to live. Such a chill, funky, artful, creative, talented approach to share! I love the talented way you create & edit all of your videos! The travel videos incredible! We love your style! Keep on keeping on! We need The Carla Project! Helps so much in our own!
I’m sure you get this all the time but thank you so much for showing an actual home that’s actually messy. It’s so encouraging for others who are struggling to see someone who has piles of things over people who’s houses are already clean before they even start recording
I honestly wanted to cry watching this. Not a lot of people understand that when you're depressed cleaning can seem like the hardest thing in the world. I'm praying for your healing and everyone else in the comments who is going through the same battle as you.
I just wanted to say thank you. I'm having an awful depressive day, and watching this video made me warm. Not fixed, not better, just a little bit less awful. You're soothing, you're realistic and this was just the content I needed to see this morning.
This is so real and transparent. Kinda brings me to tears. I know exactly what this is like. Depression and feeling down is horrible. I will keep pushing thank you for this video.
I love how raw and honest & vulnerable you were in this video. There’s a lot of shame that comes with depression and not being able to handle daily tasks. I appreciate this soo much
Me too, because this is more real to us suffering isn’t it. Sometimes we just need a little motivation even if it’s just for 30 mins. I hate how difficult it is for me to get off the couch. Big hugs. ❤
100% agree. With both a chronic condition and depression things can get like that every now and again. The hardest part is starting it. I set a timer for 5/10/15 minutes and tell myself when it goes off you can stop if you want. Sometimes it only needs 15 minutes to straighten up. Other times like you say the momentum has started you carry on. In the summer I got a tiny work top dish washer and although big pots still need hand washing, the time it gives me back is massive. And it is so easy to keep the kitchen tidy. X
@@TheCarlaProject my mother-in-law used a portable dishwasher that she kept at the end of the counter and rolled over to the sink to hook up to the faucet when needed.
I've been struggling with depression, healing from a dislocated knee, chronic migraines, and am a single working mama of 2. This gave me the push to catch up on my cleaning. Thanks, girl ❤️
Am going through a similar situation--only it's a congenital knee problem that ultimately wound up with a scope and bilateral partial knee replacements all in the span of 14 months (currently about 3 mos out from the last surgery, both knees are fixed, yay!). Before first surgery, I was in the middle of a kitchen renovation when the left knee went downhill fast. I could barely walk even with a walker (hard to use one since I'm an adult nowhere near middle-aged even and people definitely noticed me). It came down to just accomplish the basics: work, making sure to have clean daily clothes, food, interacting with my child. Wasn't until after that first surgery, when my mom was taking care of the house, I stopped feeling guilt/frustration over not getting 'everything' done because I realized---there wasn't enough me to do all that. (I had quite a lot of guilt about things I wasn't doing). Hopefully you've got some support system, please reach out to them. Even if it's something simple as them just being there. People want to help and are often waiting to be asked. It was/is difficult for me to ask others for help too. Please be kind to yourself ❤ It's ok to have a good cry. It's ok to not get everything done. It's ok to take a break. It's ok to acknowledge you feel overwhelmed at times. The most important thing is you and your kids ❤ I know we don't know each other, but I sincerely hope you are doing well and continue to heal. **hugs**
Thank you for your inspiration. I'm in my 60's, finally retired and then I ended up with 2 types of arthritis and pain. I used to be so active, now I become depressed , especially during Winter time and it's hard to fight through the pain and get motivated . You are a blessing with your videos~ thank you :)
I JUST found your channel. It's so nice to find someone who looks like me and is in a "normal" average everyday home... I am on the same journey as I clean out my grandparents' house that they lived in for 60+ yrs. They were raised during the depression and hung on to everything. I am slowly digging through the clutter (theirs and mine) to make this house my own. The mover I declutter the better I feel and the easier it is to do ... Thank you, taking it one day at a time.
Hi Talya, I am in the same situation! I need to get through my mother's stuff and mine this house is 60+ lived in too. What's crazy is I found my mother's ration card from the depression!
Hi Carla, I totally understand. I suffer from depression and anxiety and it's hard to even get and go out or even clean at times. Watching you is very motivating for me. It shows how real you are. Take it easy and always take it one step at a time cause, we're after all, human. So it's OK to give ourselves some grace. Thank you for sharing. Many blessings to you and Samson.
Yes, that’s what I want you guys to know it’s important to give ourselves grace and it’s OK...we get up eventually and keep moving forward. I feel you on the depression and anxiety. It’s some thing I’ve had off and on since my teens. One day at a time. And doing our best. 💖 much love to you!
This is one of the most important vlogs I've watched in a long time because many people find it an immense struggle to clean/clear their home on a regular basis, and in your video you've made them feel that they are not alone: I heartily commend you for it and for being brave enough to film your own living space. Many antidepressants can actually cause lack of motivation as a side-effect (as I found to my cost) and recognising this is vital so people don't 'blame' themselves for being lax when it comes to doing chores. On a happier note I'd recommend buying an Instant Pot if finances permit: everything can be done in (literally) one pot - no more saucepans to wash up (yay!). It's really helped me. All good wishes to everyone who is struggling with Life and thank you, Carla. xx
I could cry...this was JUST the video I needed. I'm in a depressive slump and I really appreciate your transparency and realness. Thank you for being amazing, vulnerable and sharing your life with us!
It's soooo refreshing to see another person's untidy home (looks like mine!) instead of the sterile pics we always see in magazines and other trendy videos. Getting encouragement from someone who 'gets it' (including speaking into depression/illness/etc.) is massively helpful. Blessings! PS your doggo is so sweet
As a child my parents always TOLD me to clean as I go but they never really showed me that so now when it comes to cleaning up I have to get motivated I am so happy people like you make these types of videos
I have to say this video is right on time for me. I lost my husband in June of 2020 and I fell into such a dark place and have definitely fell way behind on keeping my apartment clean. Lately I’ve been over it and I’ve had moments where I’ve had these strong urges to clean and declutter but I get overwhelmed and eventually give up honestly. Your transparency in this video gave me that push that I needed!!! Thank you for sharing ❤️❤️
Same here love I lost my fiancee to suicide couple month before his 40th bday n my house is messed up n cluttered n have trouble hording stuff hording n through it away my bed😢totaky full mess gonna tackle it moment n do pots cause it making me feel more lost n trapped than I already do I been dark place 3 Yr now Yrr
Needed to do a little rewatch….having a tough time getting very motivated because it’s so disgustingly hot and humid and the window ac can only do so much, but, I’m making lists of anything that I hope to get done on my 2 days off, no matter how small. Helps when I can cross something off the list…now let’s hope the weather changes! Feel like a wimp sometimes but boy does this heatwave take it out of me! Thanks for being a great cheerleader Carla!
Same here. It's difficult, almost impossible to get motivated in hot muggy weather. Been depressed for months and my house is a mess. I'm glad nobody comes over because it's embarrassing. Take care 😊
Depression is so real. Thank you for sharing your process. It's so hard sometimes, but knowing that others are going through the same struggles really helps. It's so easy for others on the outside looking in to judge an unkempt house, or wonder why you cancel plans with loved ones or friends. But it's important that WE not judge ourselves and that WE find the motivation and inspiration to help ourselves. This video helped me. Thank you.
Oh Carla, this was so needed. Once I finish watching this, I’m going to get outta my bed and get at it too. Feelin’ blue is gettin’ me nowhere!! Thanks for the motivation!!
Thank you for this it helps me a lot seeing that other people struggle too it helps me be kinder to myself....you watch enough videos of perfectly together people cleaning already pristine homes and you can start to tear yourself down for being a "failure" and content like this helps it feel "do-able"
Carla, I love how real you are. Other UA-camrs I’ve watched organise their homes and somehow manage to keep them looking good. Mine stays good for a while then always seems to end up a mess again, sometimes I just don’t have it in me to sort it again. I love that you showed us the reality and gave us tips on how to get through it. Your place looked so great at the end. How cute is your dog and the looks he gives too! ❤
This is what I needed to see and hear. You're an inspiration. You're not like the other videos where the person is so phony and excited to clean. Thank you for being real.
I'm so grateful for this video. It's 4am on December 23rd. The kids are at my mom's and I have until tomorrow evening to make my apartment the cozy Christmas sanctuary we all deserve. Their dad was awful to us all and it's been hard for any of us to feel motivated to take care of a space where so much pain happened, but I can't stand hating myself all the time for my failings. We deserve better, and I know I can make this place ours. I know it. I have to.
I work full-time and deal with depression/anxiety on the daily. Sometimes I find it hard to keep my house clean, but this video really did give me the motivation to just start. Thank you for posting and I hope you’re feeling much better! (:
I have never one across your videos until today! I am a sufferer of seasonal depression. It’s getting me lately. I am mentally exhausted and really don’t want to clean. I am so proud of you. You did great!
Hi Carla, I agree with the top comment. It's refreshing to see a video where the poster isn't "put together" for lack of a better term. I've never enjoyed cleaning and now I'm a stay at home mom for the last 14 yrs. Being home all the time is hard enough, but looking around in the morning at everything that's everywhere still and or again is Soo overwhelming. You're a real person like the rest of us sharing the struggle with us lol. Anyway keep doing you, btw love the music
I came across your channel and thinking it was one of those fake one's where they speed up and it's done. Thank you so much because I have mental health issues and no one understands and think's I'm lazy and it's not the case . Thank you for being real and showing us your life 💙❤
A friend sent this to me and it gave me the nudge I needed. I love it that you’re not a perky size 2 plastered with makeup and perfect coiffed! You’re a regular gal doing your best and reaching out to inspire others. Thank you so much!
I hear you, she’s beautiful and really relatable! It made me laugh at your description of the other girl bc that’s me and I suffer from depression/anxiety 💕💕
Carla, it's a great decision to hire someone for help. I had help last year once in 2 weeks and never felt better in my life! Thanks to that I had just to keep up with small everyday tasks and had my time for me. For the time reference, it took me last time 6 hours to clean up my house, and it's not cluttered or messy at all. It was simple cleaning! Time is so important, and do what you really like to do is even more important. If you feel that you would prefer deligate some of your home work - do it! Btw dishwasher is a game changer. Extremely recommended if you think about that. There are also small models, that not gonna take to much space and can be placed under the sink, for example. It's not for big pots, but gonna work great for cups and plates. I load mine standard size during the day, while I'm cooking and after every meal. If there is no extra people except 2 of us, we start it every other day. And unload while my coffee is making in the morning. Such a time and effort saver. Highly recommend.
I agree. I work a lot of hours and never have enough time to do basic things so I finally hired weekly help. I can’t tell you how much easier this makes my life and how much happier I am. Honestly for gifts, I prefer to give a voucher for a few hours of house cleaning (if someone is comfortable with that - because many are not - it doesn’t have to be a stranger, you can offer to help yourself). I found someone who I am very comfortable with and trust. I often clean at the same time she is helping me, I put on music, we have a special treat (like a yummy coffee or shake) and we get it done. Also as I am going through things I offer her anything she wants. This has made cleaning more of a social-fun time. I am very grateful for her help.
❤ I needed this video more than I can even begin to explain! I have always had the hardest time w/cleaning &being tidy. (Even when I was a kid, I always had a messy room!) The times when I finally force myself to clean, I always feel amazing afterwards….but it just never sticks. I always let the kitchen or bathroom-(let’s just be honest- the whole effing house!) get out of control, &then I feel so overwhelmed that it makes it even harder for me to just start. When u said, “It’s progress not perfection” I had this epiphany, like a lightbulb 💡 go off above my head! I swear, just that small phrase immediately brought me a feeling of relief,& I am now going to clean my kitchen! Thank you for making this wonderful video that so many of us can relate to!!! ❤
Hey Carla, I can relate to this 💯 Having chronic health conditions and depression and anxiety I know even the simplest of tasks can feel unmanageable and overwhelming at times,so good on you for getting up & getting it done 💪🙌 I think we all feel so much better in a clean organised space even if we feel rubbish overall - Lots of love to Mr Samson too ❤️
Great job, Carla! Keep pushing, girl. I live with my dog, as well. I'm 68 & have found my groove for a tidy, calm & sensible living space. Yep. Everything. It's not easy, but it's doable. My routines are invaluable. Morning stretches. Bible time. Journaling (& thankful journal, when I'm feeling anything but). Daily 2 mile walk (yes, every day). Lunch, I fast every day till lunch. Volunteer 3 times a week. The rest of my time, I'm tidying, taking care of my yard, home, etc. Cheech, it's hard, but, I've learned, it's easier to " keep up than catch up". Your clobbering it, girl. It's a journey!!
Lordy, isn't that the truth, doing the things you just don't feel like doing is how you get where you want to be and have the life you prefer. That five minute trick has been my go to - just five minutes - and then it's been a day and I've been puttering about getting things done all day - an excellent trick. I loved seeing your sophisticated comfortable home come together. I hope you got to have a cup of coffee afterwards and sat back to soak in your calm space and reflect on how wonderful you were for doing that for you 😊
I agree with you - And if 5 minutes seems like too much - try 'just one thing!' You'd be surprised how many of those 'just one thing's you'll get done, even on your worst days - good luck 🤗
It’s nice to have someone to relate to. Everything you mentioned in the beginning are the exact same problems I have. Your video helped with giving me some motivation. ❤
Thank you. I have been stuck for DAYS and NEED to clean and declutter! I needed someone else to show me their mess so I didn’t feel so alone. Thank you for your honesty. I’m jumping in now.
I'm so very happy I found your channel! I literally have multiple health issues, 45, and have slowed down. I've been so depressed that I don't have as much energy and this really does motivate me. I feel like I am not alone. My name is Tracy and it is nice to meet you Carla!❤
I see getting out of bed and into the couch as a win! Yet I rely on routines “even if” I do not feel it. Decluttering is a constant. My energy is low so some days are only a few minutes. I have also learned to use “follow through” with some tasks. Such as putting away groceries. If I am really low I leave the non perishable items in the car until I can bring them in and out them away. Peaceful inspiring video.
I hope you threw the cool rock outside and not in the garbage. I like how motivational you are, my place is a disaster area and I sit in the middle of it all and can't seem to start cleaning! It's so overwhelming I don't know where to even start.
You're so on time! I was struggling to start my cleaning routine, was like "oh, I'll watch Just One video on UA-cam...", but happily it was Your video 🥳 now I'm full of motivation, started the cleaning while watching 💪🏻 Also you're so right about the decluttering, even after 5 declutter we still have things to remove again and again 🤔 Well, sending strength to the community and to you Carla ❤
omg. Carla, I haven't seen your videos in a minute and I've totally been missing out. I totally needed this. That little push - and also knowing I'm not alone.
So very much needed this… I have been struggling with my mental health and other chronic conditions for a while now and feel everything in my home is piling up around me. My home feels as chaotic as my mind! 😬Tomorrow I’m setting the timer for 10 minutes and seeing where it takes me. I’m also going to have stronger words with my self when trying to avoid tasks that like yourself have such a benefit to my overall wellbeing ❤
This is so comforting to know I’m not alone in the struggle to clean and declutter. It’s a Sunday and I need to do this very same thing…and I am as I watch from my iPad. Thank you for the motivation.
Good job!!! I always feel like once I start the motivation comes. It’s doing just what you said and starting. Always the hardest part of anything to be honest.
I have a deal with myself to clean for 15 minutes a day; just 15 minutes. I don't always remember and when I do I usually go longer. The point is you'd be amazed at how much you can straighten up in 15 minutes. It really adds up. Just a couple minutes more a day and at the end of the week you've cleaned for two hours. And, if your place is already clean, that 15 minutes may be all you need.
Happy to see that you're feeling better! I love you & your videos because you are a real girl just like the rest of us! You show us all how to live our best lives with what we have, content and grateful. It's great seeing your starting point and how not to be overwhelmed to get the job done! Thank you so much for giving me hope plus motivation.
This is the most relatable thing I have seen all day. I have had this same issue, especially dealing with sickness and depression. I didn't realize how many people dealt with their house looking like this too. Thank you so much for your courage for making this video, showing such a vulnerable state, and putting it in the public eye to help people like myself. So much love and respect for you. ❤
Wow, thank you! You are exactly the person I made this video for. I was nervous about showing the side of my life, but so happy it’s helped so many people!!❤️
I'm decluttering now. It makes cleaning sooo much easier! Thanks for all the motivation. It's always nice to see someone else going through the same thing. See you next friend!
Decluttering really does make cleaning easier. My place was never ever ever clean before IDecluttered. It was always a mess. Except for when I had company over and I threw everything in the closet lol.
I'm currently procrastinating on deep cleaning my kitchen lol I have family coming next week for thanksgiving and i haven't given it a good clean since August. I take care of my grandparents with heart issues amongst other things so my time is limited. A load of laundry is almost done and I'm done with my coffee. Perfect timing for this video, Carla. Thank you for the motivation!
Carla! Thank you so much for starting your video on the couch and for speaking to the experience of feeling unable to get up and start. It’s so empowering to press play on a video and have you starting your cleaning and tidying from the same place as me (in your own home, obviously). When I watch a video with a very put-together person doing an intro, sometimes it’s off- putting, because being “put-together” feels so far from where I’m starting, whereas seeing someone in the midst of their version of chaos and owning it allows me to start where I am and work my way along with you. Thanks a bunch for modeling self-care and self-compassion, and for being a companion while I step towards those things for myself.
I just found your channel and it makes me realize I’m not the only person who gets overwhelmed with depression and anxiety. If I can just make myself start I’m good. Thanks for the motivation.
Thanks for the video. We as humans fall into slumps where we are unmotivated, and some of us are more organized than others. I myself am unorganized, so I solved that problem by getting rid of about 60% of everything I own. You see people online with these picture perfect homes, but we all know their homes don’t look like that all the time unless they have house cleaners (especially if they have kids).
Oh Carla this was perfect timing for me! My house is crazy since we’ve all been sick here and just seeing the mess has me feeling depressed. We were in the middle of painting our sons floor in his room when we all got sick so everything from his room is all over our house so we could paint his floor! Lol We couldn’t get the energy to finish it for the past week! So we have that mess on top of the usual mess 🙃 I got up mid way through watching your video and picked up the living room and kitchen real quick and you are so right, once you start the momentum takes over! We will be caught up and back to normal in no time. Anyway, I appreciate you helping me get off my bleep 😇 Glad you are feeling better! I appreciate you! 💚
I live alone here in Los Angeles in a small apartment and this actually helped me get off my ass and clean the place. I know it should be common sense 101 for me, but when you're stuck in a serious depression, you tend to just not care at all. Thank you for the video. Cheers
Your apartment is so nice and inviting! Trees outside your window bring in green to nurture your soul and wooden flooring feels grounded and it didn’t take long to clean/tidy! I think it helps to set some house rules to keep it tidy eg. Always wash up after dinner to wake up to a clean kitchen in the morning, put items away after use in their right place, put dirty clothes straight in the wash basket, wipe down surfaces daily before they get too dirty and a once a week a big clean to keep the household in a routine. Shopping for fresh produce is great as walking and moving, getting out of the house into the fresh air and sunshine is good for mental health and so is cooking a fabulous home made meal from scratch. Incidental exercise like yoga, walking the doggo, walking to the shops, vacuuming, mopping all contribute to daily movement and people can save money by abandoning gym subscriptions. Well done!
Hello from London. Thank you for this. Feeling very under the weather and struggling to keep my beautiful Victorian home organised…not like me, but I go through this now and then. Thank you for the inspiration. You have a lovely voice btw 🌸
I found this very motivating for so many reasons. I loved your advice of just doing 5 minutes and talking about depression and cleaning. And thank you for sharing a piece of reality. so many cleaning videos are of spaces that are barely messy. in my house we totally lose control on dishes and other cleaning, no kids just pets. we just let it get so bad it's overwhelming. I've been trying to just do a few things each night. it's working so far. anyway thanks!
Thank you for this, it’s so real! When my mental health is bad, the last thing I want to do is clean up. But a clean and tidy house helps my mental health! Argh! One thing that has been life changing is something called the 20/20/20. Near the end of the day, you set a timer and spend 20 minutes on “reset” - pick up the things you used around the house, empty bags, put junk mail in the recycle bin, hang up your jacket, clean dishes, etc. Then the second 20-minute timer is for “ready” - get ready for tomorrow and ready for bed. So prep lunches, check your calendar, put together things you need for tomorrow, check the weather, pick out an outfit, change into PJs, do your skincare… And then the last 20 is for a “reward” - have a cup of tea, read a book, dance to music, take a bath, watch a show. My partner and kids and I do this almost every day and it’s almost painless. Almost!
Glad to see I’m not the only one!! All it takes is not feeling good to get the whole big mess started - then it builds from there until it seems like a mountain -Thank you for this inspiration ❣️
The 5 Day Declutter Challenge starts next week! Sign up here: thecarlaproject.com/challenge Thank you for keeping this a judgment free zone! We all need a little push and motivation from time to time. Love y’all ❤❤❤
This was so helpful. I often tell myself "just do one thing" and usually that is enough to get me moving. The biggest bugaboo in my life is seeing to the mail, I just let it pile up. Where did you get your bamboo bathroom shelf thing?
I hope you are ok Carla. Sending hugs to you 💖
I’m so sorry for your loss. Xx
💕
You’re doing great! Good job!
I also really liked that it's just a regular house and she's not pretending the house is always in order.
Yes! This is so real, love it
Yes, my thoughts exactly.
Thank you! ❤️
Yes , she showed real living.❤❤❤
Yes!
Right?! That drives me insane!!!
Right❤
I agree, real home real cleaning.
@@vickicali So true. What about the ones that say their house is a mess and they have one book on a coffee table.🤣
You did a great job!
You're right 👍
So true!!!
Just wanted to say thank you for this. I’ve been an alcoholic for a very long time and always had a disgusting house. I recently quit drinking and started eating healthier and figured it’s time to finally get my house in order. Seeing something like this really helped motivate me.
Congrats on getting sober. One day at a time💗
@@TheCarlaProject thank you! My kitchen is nearly spotless so far!
Hi there! That is so awesome! My eyes are tearing now, because this is my story as well. I hope things are going well for you!😊 I'm in 7 1/2 months sober. The amount of projects and unused things I've bought is crazy. I've always worked full time, so between that and drinking, poor house, lol. However, I still come home after work and do nothing.😢 another habit I've got to get rid of.😢😢😢
Fuffing awesome, you guys, stay strong and don't give up giving up, 👍
@jordan2735 you are also inspiring for sharing your journey with us and are kicking old habits to the kerb!
It really helped me🙏🏼
So sorry for your loss…
@@lindalovelace7767 was going to same the same thing. It will get better x
I am so, so sorry for your loss! It’s truly devastating losing our beloved pets 😔 we are all sending you love and hugs ❤️🩹
So sorry for your loss. Good job in taking care of yourself 🤗 Continue to be kind to yourself. Grieving is hard 🤗
This was like a warm hug 🥹 finally a real home that doesn’t make you feel like you’re doing life wrong. Thank you so much for sharing
Omg! A depression nest! That describes it perfectly! That's what I have, never thought of it like that
Wow yess great words 😮❤
It helps when you write it down. Also write down your todo for the day and recognize small wins. This helps me a lot
What your video did for me is realize how important it is for us to be grateful for the shelter we have and to take care of it and keep it clean and organized. This is for our mental and spiritual health. Hope your feeling better. 🙏🙏🙏❤️
Well said!
“The only way my life gets better is doing lots of things I don’t want to do” wow yes! 🙌🏻
“I’ve been realizing more and more that the only way my life gets better is if I am doing a lot of things that I don’t want to do.” That’s an “A-ha” quote for me - thank you!!
same lol
It's so warmly human of you to show yourself doing this. Seeing my own mess, I judge myself so harshly. But seeing your mess, I just see it as part of the process, so it helps me bring kindness to myself in those moments. We wouldn't clean if things didn't get dirty, so we cant make it wrong that things are dirty sometimes!
yes it is a natural cycle! this idea of the perfect always clean home is just not reality. glad you are showing yourself some compassion too Ciara!! xo
A realistic video , of normal life , so sick of seeing perfect instagram and you tube videos making us all feel crap about ourselves ❤
Thank you!
So happy to help thank you!!❤❤
You go girl
I’m so happy to see a realistic person cleaning a realistic house. This got me up to clean my kitchen and make my fiancé dinner. Thank you.
Aw thank you!! Loved reading your thoughts 💖
I have like zero social life and a huge social anxiety. Lol. This sounds amazing so I envy you.
but I would have an emotional breakdown on zoom 😂
@@kelleywyskiel8513 lol I promise you it is so much fun. From the music that our friends choose to clean or dance to....to the weird interruptions from our children lol just to see someone else house a mess is whats most reassuring because I swear I think it's just me with a daily mess lol. 😅
Brilliant! Sincerely brilliant!
But I would have to clean first before calling my sis's I'd be mortified. This video didn't mortifying me. I'd even have to clean before my kids came over.
I feel like you can live in the most modest of circumstances as long as it is neat and tidy and you will feel like you are living in a mansion!
Reading your post, I thought, "I don't remember writing that...." I have the same issues. ✌️✌️
❤❤❤
Recite darood shareef most of the time and depression will not come near you
Just do a little each time you are in a room. Your efforts will add up. I stuffer with chronic pain too. I know it’s difficult. Be blessed! Leslye
Thank you soooo much!!💗💗
I know this is an old video but I’m stuck at home alone with Covid and a dirty house. I’ve been too sick to clean but today I feel like I could clean in short spirts and your video has helped me get started.
This video is medicine for my soul. I’m not sure I can explain it but I just sat here and ugly cried for over 5 minutes and I feel decades lighter. 🙏✌️💕
❤️❤️❤️🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
God, your authenticity is so refreshing and makes your message so much clearer. I thank you for your simplicity (like obviously you're super pretty and your home has clear organizational tools, but still, you have this ability to wear sweats and forget sone stuff and it's amazing). Please keep it up and don't read anything negative, I truly mean all of this as a compliment and as an example for me.
Thank you for the kind words love!💖💖
Carla,
Please never forget what you do for your followers as well as yourself!

I am saving this as a screenshot. You just made my entire week with your love!!! THANK YOU!!!❤😍
It’s good to see ‘real life’ housework for a change. So much on you tube is cleaning a in massive, minimal and already immaculate home. Thank you
I’m sure you get this all the time but thank you so much for showing an actual home that’s actually messy.
I'm not having a good day today and I totally agree with you. It seems impossible to do anything in the house.
I will keep pushing thank you for this video.
keep going girl ❤️
Yes I have depression also. We lost both our 13 English bulldogs right before Christmas😢
But doing better...my hubby took me on a vacation 😊
@@margaretalbert69I’m so sorry for your loss my condolences 💐
I meant to clarify...our two bullies were 13 years old
I love how raw and honest & vulnerable you were in this video.
I still debate about that dishwasher Laura! Love hearing how much it helps though!!❤
I hear you there. Hugs
👍🙏😘🙏
I'm so glad!❤️
It's soooo refreshing to see another person's untidy home (looks like mine!) instead of the sterile pics we always see in magazines and other trendy videos. Getting encouragement from someone who 'gets it' (including speaking into depression/illness/etc.) is massively helpful. Blessings! PS your doggo is so sweet
As a child my parents always TOLD me to clean as I go but they never really showed me that so now when it comes to cleaning up I have to get motivated I am so happy people like you make these types of videos
Vids like these do help! 😀
You’re the sweetest thank you!!💖💖
I have to say this video is right on time for me.

Getting up is the hardest part! 💖💖
I love your post ! I suffered from depression as well ! I wish you the best.
Hahah they just don’t show when it gets messy!! Peoples homes are not as Pinterest perfect 24/7 as they make it seem online!!
This is what I needed to see and hear. You're an inspiration. You're not like the other videos where the person is so phony and excited to clean. Thank you for being real.
Very very true
The view out your bedroom window is just gorgeous. Green branches. Nice video.
I love that your space is “real”. No bs aesthetic or staging.
Thank you for this!! I might try the dishwasher too but definitely getting cleaning help!❤
This is so very therapeutic for me and takes away a bit of the stress before tackling my own mess I have, thank you darling ❤
Hey Carla, I can relate to this 💯 Having chronic health conditions and depression and anxiety I know even the simplest of tasks can feel unmanageable and overwhelming at times,so good on you for getting up & getting it done 💪🙌 I think we all feel so much better in a clean organised space even if we feel rubbish overall - Lots of love to Mr Samson too ❤️
I love how realistic your videos are. It's not perfectly curated so it's relatable. I am playing this video while I clean in my own home
This is probably the most relatable video I have ever watched. Everything you said resonated!!!! Thank you for your realism!
This is like the Mr. Rogers of cleaning videos and I am here for it. Thank you for this. You have no idea how needed it is. ❤
Omg my friend says the same about my videos!! First time hearing it from a stranger hahaha thank you!!
I hope you got to have a cup of coffee afterwards and sat back to soak in your calm space and reflect on how wonderful you were for doing that for you 😊
Oh, thank you so much! And yes, waking up to my apartment clean and organized is such a gift to myself☺️💖
I agree with you - And if 5 minutes seems like too much - try 'just one thing!' You'd be surprised how many of those 'just one thing's you'll get done, even on your worst days - good luck 🤗
This was such a therapy for me to watch! Been feeling under the weather and losing myself into the abyss. Thank you for this wake up call, Carla! ☺️
I totally understand. one day at a time ... keep going hun❤❤❤
It’s nice to have someone to relate to. Everything you mentioned in the beginning are the exact same problems I have. Your video helped with giving me some motivation. ❤
I’m soooo happy it helped thank you!!💖
My name is Tracy and it is nice to meet you Carla!❤
you are definitely not alone and i totally relate. nice to meet you too tracy!!❤️
I do the same car trick 💖
@@TheCarlaProject not seeing clutter is a boost
Thank you for keeping it real. I’m like this at least once a month. Sometimes, we’re just tired, overwhelmed, and just need a break.
Amen!! It’s normal!
I appreciate you providing raw content to discuss and to motivate others 💪🏽💪🏽❤️
I appreciate you back!!
I hope you threw the cool rock outside and not in the garbage. I like how motivational you are, my place is a disaster area and I sit in the middle of it all and can't seem to start cleaning! It's so overwhelming I don't know where to even start.
Progress over perfection, I needed to hear this as the messiest perfectionist there is! Thank you ❤️
I love your suggestion of setting a short time limit to do an activity. You're so right! Once momentum sets in, we can complete anything. Thank you🥰🤗
You're so on time! I was struggling to start my cleaning routine, was like "oh, I'll watch Just One video on UA-cam...", but happily it was Your video 🥳 now I'm full of motivation, started the cleaning while watching 💪🏻
Also you're so right about the decluttering, even after 5 declutter we still have things to remove again and again 🤔
Well, sending strength to the community and to you Carla ❤
Yessss love to hear it thank you❤!!
I just found your channel and I'm so happy I did! 😢 it's great to know im not alone. Thanks for the support!!
I am in a major depressive episode , my kitchen was getting sooo bad, but now I feel so much more motivated to get it done thank you!
omg. Carla, I haven't seen your videos in a minute and I've totally been missing out.
I totally needed this. That little push - and also knowing I'm not alone.
Yes love you are not alone!! We’re humans and we get up and try try again. All good!💖
So very much needed this… I have been struggling with my mental health and other chronic conditions for a while now and feel everything in my home is piling up around me. My home feels as chaotic as my mind! 😬Tomorrow I’m setting the timer for 10 minutes and seeing where it takes me. I’m also going to have stronger words with my self when trying to avoid tasks that like yourself have such a benefit to my overall wellbeing ❤
Good luck tomorrow! 😀
Yes, a little bit goes a long way! Be kind to yourself and celebrate every little task that you do. It’s a gift for yourself💖
This is so comforting to know I’m not alone in the struggle to clean and declutter. It’s a Sunday and I need to do this very same thing…and I am as I watch from my iPad. Thank you for the motivation.
Thank you for watching ☺️❤️
Good job!!! I always feel like once I start the motivation comes. It’s doing just what you said and starting. Always the hardest part of anything to be honest.
It’s good to see someone who seems normal also has a messy house everyone around me is spotless and it makes me feel like a child or something
Thank you for this video. I have severe arthritis and I struggle with pain everyday. You gave me some very good tips to help me with my cleaning.
I'm so glad!thank you😍❤️
I have a deal with myself to clean for 15 minutes a day; just 15 minutes.
You're the best!❤️❤️❤️❤️
Thank you for this❤ Just said out loud “wow…..I’m not alone.”
The blue and white pots and books on the tile are lovely. Thank you from one Carla to another for this lovely video.
Thx carla 😍
I agree, just getting started is the hardest part. Sometimes that 5 minutes start along with coffee and some good music can get you going. Thx Carla😊
Yes!! Coffee music is a great motivator!
So we have that mess on top of the usual mess 🙃
I got up mid way through watching your video and picked up the living room and kitchen real quick and you are so right, once you start the momentum takes over! We will be caught up and back to normal in no time.
Anyway, I appreciate you helping me get off my bleep 😇
Glad you are feeling better!
Well done!
i love being surrounded by trees so good for the soul!
Hello from London. Thank you for this. Feeling very under the weather and struggling to keep my beautiful Victorian home organised…not like me, but I go through this now and then. Thank you for the inspiration. You have a lovely voice btw 🌸
thank you! enjoy your victorian home it sounds lovely and feel well soon xo
Sorry you’ve been unwell. Must feel good to get your home back in order!
