To be honest, the dryer scene change doesn’t really work because kids are smart enough that if they see it then there is a lesser chance of doing it. If they don’t see it then it will more likely indicate that it’s ok to do it. A niece of mine was hiding in a dryer and it made me think of the original version of LILO and Stitch. Kids are a lot smarter than people think.

i understand the smoking thing, but if it's part of the social commentary, then it should not be censored. Take for example the Pleasure Island scenes in Pinocchio (both the original Disney version and the remake). The entire purpose of that scene is to teach kids about the consequences for bad behavior. If it's emotionally scarring, then it did it's job. How tf is Pinocchio supposed to learn about these consequences when you're spoon-feeding him all of the good stuff. Children need to learn that life can be just as ugly as it is beautiful, they need that balance. Protecting the innocence of the youth is important regarding topics like war and disease, but at some point children are going to become adults and there are lessons they need to learn before that happens.

@@Markimark151 No they did not! You don’t understand the severity of John Lasseter’s sexual misconduct. No matter how much you claim “what he did wasn’t illegal”, sexual misconduct is still a serious issue and a kind of behavior that should not and never be tolerated in any workplace and should be condemned and the person who did the action in question should be held accountable for their actions. John’s had a bad history of mistreating his female employees and hugging and kissing them without their consent while drunk is still not good behavior for someone who’s (or was formerly) the chief creative officer of Disney and Pixar, basically being one of the heads of both companies. And just to show another example of his mistreatment towards women is when he fired Brenda Chapman from her film The Bear and the Bow and replaced her with Mark Andrews which resulted in him rewriting the film into what you know today as Brave and considering how the film has gotten the reputation of being among Pixar’s lesser films, it’s an OBVIOUS indication of there being executive meddling during production as a result of John Lasseter taking away a female director’s passion project which was based on a personal story of her relationship with her daughter. Makes me glad John’s not at Pixar anymore because no doubt, he would’ve done a similar thing to another film directed by a female employee also based on a personal story of her relationship with her mother Turning Red and replaced her with one of his male directors from his “boys club” and resulted in another film, along with the director’s original vision and personal touch, being ruined by executive meddling and made the internet compare it to Brave, no doubt users would’ve referred to it as “the Brave situation all over again” and criticized John for his executive meddling. Despite Disney’s many controversial or stupid decisions they’ve made over the past few years, firing John for his sexual misconduct and poor treatment of his female employees was one of their few smart ones. And seriously, defending John Lasseter for his actions and comparing those victims to the Boy Who Cried Wolf? That doesn’t help prove your argument nor is it making you look so good. I would take a moment to reflect on that last part you said in your reply and think about the seriousness of sexual misconduct and what those female employees you state “cried wolf” went through because if you still insist on refusing to believe what a powerful animation director and producer has done was wrong and that his victims were making up those accusations, then, I’m sorry, but to quote Marlin from Finding Nemo…

It's quite interesting how many classics had censorship for seemingly miniscule reasons. Whether it be the infamous bits in Who Framed Roget Rabbit, the removal of the dryer in Lilo and Stitch, and the removal of the Toy Story 2 outtake with the Prospector and Barbies. The Prospector was true to his word though, Barbie did appear in Toy Story 3. Anyways, this is why physical media rules. So if you wanna hold onto versions of the films before the censorship, hold onto those older releases (whether it be DVD or VHS).
Something else worth mentioning: the Pixar short Knick Knack. The original 1989 version of the short was the one released on the Tiny Toy Stories VHS in 1996 along with the other Pixar shorts available at the time. The original version of Knick Knack showed the Sunny Miami and Sunny Atlantis knick knacks with abnormally large breasts, and Atlantis also had starfish pasties. John Lasseter voluntarily edited the short when it was released in 2003 alongside Finding Nemo, reducing the breast size of both Sunny Miami and Sunny Atlantis, whilst giving the latter a seashell bra (akin to Ariel from The Little Mermaid).

    • @hunterolaughlin
      @hunterolaughlin День тому

The removal of the outtake of Prospector and the Barbies is justifiable considering Toy Story 2’s director John Lasseter’s history of misogyny and sexual misconduct. Besides, it’s an outtake anyways that appears during the credits and not a major scene within the plot of the film itself, so it’s easier to remove or censor. You’re not missing anything significant if it’s removed, especially if it runs during the credits, a part of the film audiences usually start to get up and leave and wouldn’t notice if they chose not to stay for the outtakes. So it’s not as minuscule as you believe.

It's likely because my DVD copy is older, but my copy of Toy Story 2 still includes that scene in the end credits with Stinky Pete and the Barbie dolls... and Woody laughing after his string breaks must've been a recent addition, because it is not in my copy.
    As for PePe?
Yeah, that actress said it perfectly and pointed out the major flaw in entertainment nowadays.
They'd rather pretend the inappropriate behaviour of certain characters in the past was forgotten and ignored, under the guise that THAT teaches their actions as being wrong, when pretending they didn’t happen doesn't do anything but make it seem like someone's trying to hide something.
It's why so many things being edited out actually do the opposite of what those editing them out were trying to do in the first place.
If a character's behaviour is bad and they got punished for their actions, teaching kids that you shouldn't do what got the character in trouble, Removing the scene altogether gives the opposite impression, that the character got away with it, implying to the kids that they’ll get away with it too.
Hardly good teaching methods for kids, if you asked me

There's also that episode of The Simpsons pulled just for having Michael Jackson's voice in it after some documentary spoke ill of the dead
Cutting off ears is bad, but ripping thieves open to take food back is totally okay lol 🤪
The actor in Song of the South agreed to be in the movie, so I guess he didn't find it racist at all
The director of Roger Rabbit said he didn't believe in altering movies on the Back to the Future audio commentary track, and yet Roger Rabbit gets censored, interesting
I thought Disney Plus had a disclaimer message for old stuff, can't they just use that instead of changing stuff they already released 🤔

People are too sensitive these days. Every movie was a reflection of the time it was made.

Media is always a reflection of its time. I think censoring things from our past is just silly, and if you wanna highlight the fact that the material made in the past doesn’t reflect our current values and beliefs; then go ahead and use the viewer discretion warning like they have done with other projects.

1:24 HOW could Cobra NOT hear that and come back to find out what is going on?
As a Social Worker (regardless of it being a cover), having just decided he was not approving Nani raising Lilo, suddenly hearing the child scream like that SHOULD have made him double take.
It was literally less than 2 seconds after he'd closed the door.
He'd have maybe taken 2 steps and DEFINITELY been in earshot.
As for the scene change itself? I honestly think it was silly.
Lilo is in trouble, clearly in the wrong at the time, so her doing that would clearly be seen by kids as something they shouldn't do, as she was doing it to try and avoid punishment.
Also, fun fact: my DVD copy still has the scene as it originally was.
It's an older 2 disc edition version, clearly from before they put the change in
