These are great. I gave one a test run and the maneuverability was impressive. I have a Simplicity Synergy that is great. Riccar is not as aggressive on carpet but, less cumbersome design.
Yes, they are definitely maneuverable. While Simplicity no longer makes the Synergy, it is still made under the Riccar brand as the Radiance R40P. Tacony is one one of the few companies where you can really see the cleaning ability improve as you go up their line. For instance, in terms of carpet cleaning R40P>R30P>R25. But in it's price range the R25 is a good value. Look for another R25 video to come! Thanks for the comment!
Thanks for pointing that out! Prices always go up, never down... I still think for the price they fill a very unique niche in the market being a quality but mid-priced upright.
Hello, great video, exceptionally thorough. I have this vacuum and it's been GREAT, just one question the red bag full indicator on the side won't turn off. You mention it at about 26:22. I've had professional cleanings on this vacuum done, changed the bag, all filters and even used dried rice to help clean any sensors, done a thermal reset too. Please tell me how to make the red light turn off? Thank you!
This vacuum is a lot like the Meile U1, with a separate motor for the brush roll. The Meile also has a Twist function that helps with maneuablity. This vacuum uses casters like a canister. Would you say the suction power of the R25 is comparable with a U1?
I'm so glad I have berber carpet throughout my house....all the vacuums I've tried have zero issues... If you see this... now that 3 years have passed.... have you seen many repairs or isuses?
Floats is maybe a generous term. The nozzle rests on the floor using it's own weight. Key to making it work on different carpeting is the two speed brushroll motor and large air inlets in front of the brushroll. It is similar to the old Riccar 8000, 4000 and 2000 series, which did work pretty well on everything up to but not including a high looped pile.
Great video, just bought the R25D. I was using the Fur-Get-It pet hair remover on the wand, to clean cat hair off the steps. Apparently this was causing the motor to heat up and I had to press the Thermal Reset button a few times. Is this a common occurrence?
Thanks for the question! I have actually never run into that issue with the Fur-Get-It tool, but that isn't to say it couldn't happen. Did you check for clogs and a full bag just to make sure there isn't something else that might be starving the vac for air? If it keeps happening, take it to your dealer. If it is a faulty thermal switch the can easily replace that under warranty. But check those other areas first. Thanks for watching!
I think that for someone who has predominantly bare floor and area rugs the Tandem Air machines are overkill. They would likely be better served with an R25. However, if they have carpet of any amount in particularly trafficked areas or they have pets, the Tandem Air is the absolute best carpet cleaner on the market today. It just depends on their needs. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Excellent and thorough breakdown of the features of the R25 series. We just purchased the R25P and the Riccar website specifications stated it has a "bare floor squeegee". Could you explain where that is? Is it a separate tool we were supposed to get? I was mislead about the Missouri origin of assembly on this which slightly bothers me. Other then that is seems well worth the money. Thank you for your help! FYI UPDATE: I examined the underside and found the "squeegee". It is a small strip of felt brushes embedded just behind the roller section. I'm not sure if they can be replaced in the future. Just finished vacuuming our house of mixed hard wood and oriental rugs. Did a great job! Happy with my purchase and save some $ at the local reseller off msrp.
Hi Lance! I see you found the squeegee. It is a synthetic material that is really long-lasting. If it ever needs replaced it is an easy job and the part is available. I'm sorry you were mislead about the COO, that is always a bummer. The good news is that the purchase still supports an American, family-owned company that does make multiple models in the States. Thanks for watching and commenting!
@@louislograno7524 Unfortunately you cannot add the squeegee. But the good news is that since you can turn off the brushroll, kicking debris out the back isn't too much of an issue. Thanks!
Your reviews are so helpful. You mentioned this isn't best on high pile. Could you advise a vacuum for soft, somewhat dense carpet? Trusoft stainmaster nylon.44" pile. I need it not to be too heavy, need maneuverability. I already have a vac for hard floors, but that won't work well on our new wall to wall carpet. I'm OK investing in a good machine, but not interested in going full out $1500 for more than I really need.
Thanks for watching and the question! Trusoft is both nylon and a cut pile. The issue with these soft carpets isn't so much the height of the pile so much as fraying at the end of the carpet strand. The softness comes from both the type of nylon used and also weaving it from finer strands which are more fragile. My recommendation for soft carpet is always a Sebo X-Series upright with electronic height adjustment and the soft carpet brushroll installed. They work well, won't harm the carpet, and while they are high end you can get into one for well under $1000. Make sure that you purchase it from an authorized dealer so you qualify for the free extended 10 year warranty. If you would like a quote on something like that you can reach out at hov@thehouseofvacs.com. Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns. Thanks!
Lovely video. You know your stuff!! As a new homeowner, and new vaccum buyer… wow theres lots to consider. Do you recommend simplicity ezm or riccard r25p for my use? (Or something else?) 1000sq foot, primarily hardwood floors with area rugs, and one higher pile soft rug in bedroom. Also have multiple pets! Was looking for one machine to do it all. Of course on a budget, but willing to invest for the right product as the extra 300 over 8 years would be well spent if I found the right product. I do like the pet tool from riccar but ezm has thier own version. The ezm can adjust roller height I think, but dont think you can turn off the roller like the r25, and also unsure if there is that seal you mention that helps bare floor performance. I was looking bagged vs cannister to capture the pet dander. TY in advance if you can get to this and share your 2 cents!!!
Thanks for watching! For bare floor and area rugs, I would only go with the R25 or a canister like the Sebo K2 Turbo. The EZM has no carpet/floor switch, so you will end up scattering dirt across bare floor. It also has a rubber belt, so if you ever catch the edge of an area rug you can easily break the belt. The R25 solves all those problems. However, uprights are still largely designed for carpet with bare floor as a runner up. Something like a canister will be able to do both with ease. I personally have bare floor and area rugs, and I use a Sebo canister at home. Hope that helps!
Strange question, I want to replace the brush roll in my R25 Standard. Does the metal brush roll fit in that model as well or does the standard only work with the wooden brush roll? I figure since all 3 models more or less use identical parts the metal brush roll would have the same dimensions as the wooden brush roll.
Thanks for the question! The Simplicity S20EZM is one of my favorite entry-level vacuums. That particular design has been labeled as Simplicity, Fuller Brush, Carpet Pro, Clean Max, and now also Titan. Regardless of the labelling, they have been reliable but in a totally different class than the R25. The S20EZM is good for large areas of carpeting with up to moderate traffic and/or pet hair. It doesn't not have a carpet/floor switch so I would consider it's bare floor performance to be poor. It is a value for a bagged machine that will last 8-ish years. The Riccar has more features, can do bare floor, and is closer to a 15 year vacuum for about $200 more. Cheers!
Excellent review. My local dealer misled me; implying all are made in Missouri. Disappointed about China. Also, for a $599 machine I’m disappointed they would use a plastic bottom cord clip and a plastic foot pedal release instead of metal. Definitely waiting to break, but will buy anyway. Btw, just subscribed. Update: Bought the R25D and like it. The shiny black color is classy, if a vacuum can be considered classy. Love all the features which perform as advertised. The only thing I miss is a dirt indicator which I have on my old Kenmore Intuition(which is still going strong btw). The Kenmore is very difficult to push on our large thick dense area rugs even when set at the highest level. This leaves me to believe it has more vacuuming power than the R25D. However, the ease of pushing and maneuvering the R25D is a blessing. The repair man at the dealer eased my concerns about the plastic cord clip and foot petal which he said he has never seen a broken one since the R25D came out. Bottom line, I believe it will give me several years of good service.
I think the price point is good. I have a Meile U1 (also has a separate motor for brush roll) But the price point is like $800.00. Riccar wanted to get to a lower price point to sell more units.
Thank you for making a very informative video on this machine. I had been curious about them since they came out. I'm definitely an upright kind of guy, so I might need one!
I think these are really nice vacs for the middle price-point. You definitely get more for the money than most vacs in this price range. Thanks for watching and commenting!
We are looking at new carpet and it is a smart stand medium triexta. I was so excited until I started looking for a vacuum. Mohawk recommend the soniclean but i am really not Interested in it. Could you share what type might not fuzz the ends of the carpet pile?
Hi Brenda! Congrats on the new carpet. So, with regard to the proper vacuum for triexta (Mohawk SoftStrand) it is important to look at not only the carpets pile height, but also whether the pile is cut or looped. With this kind of carpet both loop and twist piles are popular, which do require some extra care. For a twist or loop, I would personally use a Sebo vacuum with their "soft" brushroll installed. It is a brushroll specifically designed for modern soft and looped pile carpeting. My favorite for this application would be the Sebo X4 or X7 because they automatically height adjust. Essentially, the height adjustment is electronically adjusted so that it is not too low (which can damage the carpet fiber) or too high (which won't clean). They just take all the guesswork out of it. You can also install that brushroll in their less expensive Felix or any of their canisters, although those models do not feature automatic height adjustment. For this kind of carpeting the Riccar R25 is not my first choice because it is not height adjustable at all, meaning you really can't fine tune the setting. That is fine for cut pile carpeting, but not the best for twist or loop. In any case, I would say spend the money on a good vacuum to protect your investment in your carpeting. So many people will get new carpeting and then use the wrong vacuum on it, only to find their carpet isn't holding up after 5-7 years of high traffic. If you have any questions about the Sebos or any other vacs you have been looking at, shoot me an email at hov@thehouseofvacs.com. Thanks!
Unfortunately, no, it is not a sealed system. Since Miele discontinued the U1, the only sealed premium upright is the Sebo X-series. Thanks for question and for watching!
Which would you go with, this or Sebo Felix? They are the same price at a local shop and I am very torn... Love this long hose and wand, but store owner said Sebo Felix is way better.
That is a tough question, they are both very good machines in their own right. Sebo has the edge with reliability and warranty, but the Riccar has a lot of nice features like the 11' stretch hose. I think for me it would come down to 1) how important is the warranty to you? and 2) how important is the stretch hose. Answer #1, go Sebo. Answer #2, go Riccar. Hope that helps!
@House Of Vacuums Thank you for responding!! It does help but also somewhat hurts, lol. I like that Riccar has a light. I tested both at my local shop side by side, Riccar had stronger suction at the hose but couldn't tell which was better at the power nozzle. I love the hose and wand on the Riccar, so it is very convenient. I have a Shark now and a Kirby Avalir 2, which I never use, too much of a hassle. But I always wish there was a longer hose built in that I didn't have to go get, Riccar solves that. Sebo Felix I like the height adjustment, suction adjustment, longer warranty, looks better, removable brush roll, can get extention hose but just can't keep on board so you'd have to go get it. Is there no clear cut better choice between the 2? Let's say hose and warranty didn't matter, all things being equal, which is better? Also, is there anything else in that price range that you would suggest over those 2? Both are $600. Thank you again! By the way, my uncle used to work for electrolex, so he would always have me do repairs with him at home and I just fell in love with vacuums as a child and have always loved them since then.
@@JVIZ20 - all good questions! My concern is about the quality of the filtering, and whether there is any truth to the reports that suction on the Felix drops wayy off after the bag is half-full. Also wish the Felix had a HEPA option for the final filter. The single motor SEBO X series don't work for me as I need a brush roller that I can shut off for wood floors.
Good info! Interesting that this vac has a multi-speed roller brush. Turns out the very inexpensive Eureka Flash also has two speeds.....found that very helpful for some hard floor cleaning. Side note: I really wonder which vac is the best on plush carpet (my Sebo ET1/Miele 238 power heads seem thorough, but Consumers Union's never liked them that much).
Honestly, the best vacuum I have ever used on plush carpet is the Riccar R40/Radiance followed closely by the Riccar R30/Brilliance. The Tandem Air design really doesn't clean incredibly well. They are complex and expensive, but with deep pile carpet or high traffic they are other-worldly.
the twin motor reminds me of the Electrolux discovery 2 the same bag desing is veryyy similar to the discovery bag upright and the main look is more panasonic jet flow fo the 90s tho
I can see that being their reasoning process. But after using it for a few months those hoses will be completely opaque with dirt. Users will never see in there again! Thanks for watching and for the comment!
I agree, Riccar seems to have pretty good manufacturing partners in China. I think it was a little controversial since the previous models were assembled in the US, but they created a new model with better features for the same price, so I'm OK with it. Cheers!
I do like these the more I see and read of them. Have you heard of anyone swapping out the bristles for Riccar's classic nylon bristles like on the Vibrance? I never thought about doing that, but I did move into a house with frieze carpeting and low pile area rugs and wonder how that would work on them.
You can absolutely swap out the bristles on the R25 for the nylon or horse hair. However, for long frieze, it wouldn't be my first choice. It lack height adjust (R30, R40) or a frieze air damn/rake (R10 option). I think those other options would be more properly suited to that particular carpet. Thanks for the question!
I am moving to a new place in northern California beginning of 2022 as early as March or April Would you mind Sending me the model you have under the simplicity brand
It's a good machine, made by SEBO. However, I would purchase the SEBO Mechanical 300 for home use because you get that 10 year warranty from an authorized dealer.
Depends on the parts. It is becoming increasing difficult to source USA made motors, so it's understandable. Ametek has facilities in both China and Mexico, so it may vary depending on when the vacuum was made.
I prefer the older 8000 series. They were made with 2 stage motors, and they don’t have too many bells which makes them easy to repair. I don’t honestly know why Tacony would retire such a good design. The new tandem air machines have too many bells and whistles.
Riccar actually retired the 8000 series because the mold for the plastic nozzle was worn out. If you look at later model 8955 nozzles, you'll see the impression of a seam where they attempted to weld the mold back together. It kept cracking, so they called it a day. If you want to see a great video about the 8000 series check out: ua-cam.com/video/uQWXKPL6Pao/v-deo.html&lc=UgyVc52iJrhmp1FIBbd4AaABAg
Why would they quit using the Duratech 2 stage motor though? Those were better than any of the single stage motors. They performed better, and they were much quieter.
If I'm not mistaken (and I might be!), the Duratechs were made in Mexico. Now that manufacturing has moved to China it is likely that those motors were no long viable from a cost perspective. At least that would be my guess. I will say that the single stage motors they are using now do perform well for their compact size.
@@HouseOfVacuums The Duratechs were always made by Tek Electric in China. The 8850 used a 2 stage Ametek Lamb motor made in USA. They started using Duratechs in 2001 when they replaced the 8850 with the 8955. Both were excellent machines, and both the Ametek and Duratech were fabulous motors.
While I prefer canisters for bare floor, you can build uprights that do a decent job at it. The two key things necessary is the ability to turn the brushroll off and some kind of sealing strip behind the brushroll (either rubber or microfiber) to keep the dirt near the airflow. New machines with these features are much, much better on bare floor than their predecessors, but still not the best choice for someone who has more bare floor and area rugs than carpet. Cheers!
Thanks for watching and the question! The R40P is the absolute top of the line for Riccar, while the R25 is solidly a mid-market offering. The largest difference you will see between the two is the difference in carpet cleaning. The R25 uses a traditional single bypass motor, so it cleans as well as other vacuums in it's class. However, the R40P has the twin motor Tandem Aid system, and it will out-clean pretty much everything on the market when used on carpet. So if you have a lot of carpet and high traffic/pet hair the R40P will show you better performance. However, that certainly comes at a cost. The R40P is still assembled in the USA, but all the R25 models are made in China and I don't see that changing.
@@HouseOfVacuums Thanks for the reply! I got it eventually. Once I got the orientation of it down it went pretty smoothly. I'm shocked that the spring broke it's a pretty stout piece.
Where is the automatic cord rewind? I wish these vacuum designers would be more inventive with there approach to customer convenience. I really miss Panasonic they at least tried to incorporate those features in their vacuums.
Manufactures have played around with cord rewinds in uprights for 30+ years now. They have never caught on, mostly due to the additional weight and space requirements of the mechanism. Riccar certainly could have added one, but it would have interfered with the low lay-down profile of the vacuum at 8". Cheers!
@@HouseOfVacuums Sounds like the lazy way out of adding useable features. My Panasonic had the cord rewind and didn’t weigh much more then the Riccar’s of the vacuum world. They keep on dumbing these vacuums down and charging more.

Thanks!
I happen to like black vacuums. They’re very tuxedo like.
Hmmm, good perspective!
Thank you for the video. Does this vacuum have a sealed system?
Unfortunately, no, it is not a sealed system. Since Miele discontinued the U1, the only sealed premium upright is the Sebo X-series. Thanks for question and for watching!
Is the Sebo G4?
I’m so happy that they don’t have the roller clutch anymore. Where about is your shop located?
I'm glad they did away with that design as well. We are located in Lynchburg, Virginia. Thanks for watching and commenting!
And I should clarify that I meant plush as in not shag.
the twin motor reminds me of the Electrolux discovery 2 the same bag desing is veryyy similar to the discovery bag upright and the main look is more panasonic jet flow fo the 90s tho
I read somewhere , the reason they make that tube a clear color opposed to opaque color, is so you can see if there is a clog in the tube.
I can see that being their reasoning process. But after using it for a few months those hoses will be completely opaque with dirt. Users will never see in there again!
Thanks for watching and for the comment!
Awesome informative video!
Happy to help!
I have a Riccar pizzazz and it was made in the China I’d say the qualities pretty good
I agree, Riccar seems to have pretty good manufacturing partners in China.
Do these new Riccars use a two stage motor like their predecessors?
Hi Garrett! The actually use a single stage motor much like some of the old Vibrance or 8900/8905 models.
Nice video
Thanks for watching and the comment!
I’m still on my blue vibrance
Had several Riccar before that
One was a black 5225 or something I thought that was this at first
Their machines certainly do last!
Where can I get a Simplicity?
Hi Ruben! I do carry Simplicity... is there a model you are looking for? Thanks!
I am moving to a new place in northern California beginning of 2022 as early as March or April Would you mind Sending me the model you have under the simplicity brand
What about commercial Windsor S2 models they sell on amazon for around $550~?
It's a good machine, made by SEBO. However, I would purchase the SEBO Mechanical 300 for home use because you get that 10 year warranty from an authorized dealer.
Why does My Riccar 25pet lean backwards when upright?
Probably a fault with the handle lock pedal. I would take it to your dealer so they can take a peek.
I'm not sure it even matters. The motor in my older supralite says Shanghai and ametek. They basically use foreign parts as is, just like Hoover.

You're right, I totally forgot the Duratech was built in China. I must have mixed that up with the old Ameteks in my mind. Cheers!
I thought uprights were only for carpets.
Cheers!
How does this compare to the Riccar R40P.6? Are the newer models made in the U.S.?
Trying to replace the spring assist assembly on my r25 anyone done it yet?
I have! It's not terrible, it just take a little muscle to get the springs correctly oriented and screw into place. But it's totally doable.
I love your videos. One question I have is why do you not introduce youself by name? You are truely the star of the videos and I really wish you would introduce yourself to your audience by name. But in any case your video's are terrific. Love all of your videos. John in Ohio.
Good feedback, I'll try to start doing that at the beginning. I always get so excited to jump right into the vacuum repair. Thanks for watching!
My central vacuum can go under anything
Also why I prefer canisters!
@@HouseOfVacuums I totally agree
It Comes in three flavors, what do you mean flavors ,it's not food?..‼️LOL
Hahaha, you've never heard of options referred to as "flavors"? Maybe it's just me!
Nice, but made in China =(
It is a little bit of a bummer... but if you want made in the USA there are still the Tandem Air uprights, so that's good! Thanks for watching and commenting.
