as a French person, what you made is the basis for hot chocolate, except I think you're supposed to mix the chocolate cream with milk to thin it out and make it drinkable
@@RachhLovesLife If you guys want the hot chocolate luxurious feeling, but not something unhealthy nor overwhelming, you can try it the Portuguese way! We use milk, chocolate, brown sugar, a touch of vanilla, and cornstarch - cooking it on the stove mixing nonstop with a wooden spoon (metal on metal wears it out) Can take a few tries in amount of cornstarch and chocolate, to figure out which consistency you prefer (thick, Velvety, but still a drink! So, not making it so thick that it isn't anymore) One can add some cinnamon and a pinch of nutmeg when wanting to jazz it up, it is served in a big mug, meant to nicely warm you up in winter windy days!! Feels like a foxy warm hug from the inside The type of chocolate has to do with personal preference as well! 😌
I remember I. Years back when Christopher wouldn’t go on camera. And then there he was one day. He’s such a nice in and out presence in videos. Love that we get to see the humour between you two now.
We also prepare that type of hot chocolate in Spain. We use it to dip churros not really to drink from the mug, I guess it's a different concept from the hot chocolate other countries enjoy. When we finish eating the dipped churros, we use a spoon to eat the leftover hot chocolate :)
I have used the pretzel wreath as a snack table centerpiece before, huge hit! I did the same method but made the circumference much larger, added more layers, used mini M&Ms for the ornaments, and larger candy canes. It was easy to snap off pieces for your snack plate. It was displayed on a large round charcuterie board
I take little pretzels, melted almond bark, and a canister of peanuts and mix them all together in a bowl. Then dump out on parchment while it's still warm and spread them out. You can sprinkle with red and green sugar sprinkles or tiny m&ms (or both, don't let me hold you back). Let them set up and then break them apart into little clusters. I think it's called Pine Bark. Every Christmas I make this and people eat that stuff up. So cheap and simple, but so addicting lol
I don't know about French people, but that looks and sounds A LOT like the hot chocolate they serve with churros in Spain. It is almost like a pudding that you sip and dip.
Thank you for doing these videos Rachel! I look forward to them EVERY year. 🥰 I surprised my husband, on Valentines Day, with the Raspberry Cinnabons shaped like hearts. He loved them. My absolutely favorite is the Cranberry Jalapeño Dip. No joke, every time I make it people come looking for me begging for the recipe. Thank you for doing this and encouraging us to try new and fun things. ❤
I hate the snow and complain every year about it but honestly speaking Christmas would not feel the same without it❕️❗️ And yes we already have snow here in Alberta ❄️ 🌨 ❄️
In Spain, you order churros (Spanish fried dough in long tubes. You can get them with sugar or salt. ) Then you dip the churros into the hot chocolate, kind of like a dip. The cups are very small.
I am Spanish and aware that we have a lot different kinds of churros deppending on the city or region, but I have never seen or heard of churros with salt. Just being curious here, where did you find that?
@ - You are right, I requested churros - not porros - without the sugar. I lightly salt them, as we did when I was a child living in Torremolinos in 1965. The salt enhances the sweetness of the thick chocolate. Sundays at San Ginés in Madrid.
8:01 Here in Louisville, Kentucky, we got snow the other night. The ground was too warm for it to stick, but I live in a 3rd-floor apartment and it was amazing to see the snow in the light of the street lamps. Made me feel all festive! 🎄❄⛄
I lived close to Lexington when I was in college and I loved seeing the ice storms (dangerous, I know) but it was so pretty seeing everything with a thick layer of ice on it! I live up north and had never seen that before! Just regular snow and icicles. I mean, I've seen plenty of icicles reach from the roof of a two story building down to the ground, but really, I've never seen anything like a Kentucky ice storm!!! Beautiful!!!
Shout out to Rachel and Lo! The gift guide is amazing! Will be using the links for several items for Christmas gifts. Great lists that cover a ton of interests and age groups! Love it!
Hi Rachel! My daughter's and I have been watching your videos for years now and love both of your channels!!! We cant wait to make our own pretzel wreaths this year!! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I make chocolate candies every holiday, a little tip is to put a cookie sheet underneath your parchment paper before you start making the wreath you then can pop it in the fridge for 3 to 5 minutes and it’ll be harden quickly but also you can move it places. I also make homemade hot cocoa every year and my recipe includes powdered milk, powdered creamer and cocoa powder, people have suggested the Trader Joe’s one and I do like that much better. I also buy the freeze dried tiny marshmallows to add in it. I make a humongous bowl of it and then share it with everyone. You could add mini chocolate chips in it or mini cinnamon chocolate chips so on. I personally like the mini because the regular size chips just do not seem to melt as easily. When I do go to make a batch you can use hot water but I still prefer milk it makes it much richer.
I use the pizza crusts to make a pull-apart breadstick Christmas tree appetizer. It is spread with spinach dip (it also add artichokes chopped really fine.) You could do these trees with this recipe.
My girlfriend loves making cinnamon buns, but over the last couple of years she's been making them as knots instead. Like you make the dough, spread out the butter and seasoning, fold it, cut it like you did the pizza and knot them. You can probably do make those into bows instead of knots. To make them even more christmassy you can also add some nutmeg, allspice, cloves and ginger. We also always make Aniseseed buns which are great (do not confuse this with staranise, very different spice)
We drink thick chocolate in Italy but we do it differently. We just add a thickening agent aka cornstarch to make it thick. But it's made with milk, cocoa powder and sugar and of course starch.
Chocolate crack cookies! So I make all my gifts but I bake for all the kids in my life. Chocolate chip cookies, chocolate Crack cookies, brownies and this year's new one is orange cranberry vanilla sugar cookies. Oh I forgot about the hot chocolate bombs. Those too.
I’ve been making the French style hot chocolate for a few years now, I use 3/4c of whole milk, 1/4 cup whipping cream, it makes it a little less thick but still rich. And 4oz of at least 70% dark chocolate and a teaspoon of powdered sugar. Then plenty of whipped cream. It’s delish. Oh also a generous sprinkle of nutmeg lol
We make a cinnamon roll wreath every year. We use 2 cans of the Trader Joe's cinnamon rolls (in the cans), make one roll into a bow shape, then make the others into a circle. Bake, then use the glaze to attach the bow, and pour the rest of the glaze on the wreath. Add Christmas sprinkles etc. It looks even more festive on a cute Christmas serving dish! I love the pizza roll trees, but what about using crescent rolls (pressed into a rectangle), making the strips much smaller? Use cheese and pepperoni as the filling, and serve with marina sauce! YUM! (OK, now I'm hungry!)
I don't remember a Christmas when my Grandma didn't make rice crispy covered marshmallows. Take a regular marshmallow (or larger if you want THAT much of a sugar rush), dip it half way or all the way in melted caramel then roll the caramel coated part in rice crispy cereal.
I love that Chris is so involved in the videos now because I’ve been here so long I remember it wasn’t his thing at first 🤣 we love a supportive husband!! 👏🏼 #ItDefinitelyIsGoodContent 😉
So I didn’t have snow for the first, like twenty-three years of life... and maybe missed it. Now it's every year and hate it... but I have to drive in it, so.. 😮... moving to Texas, so this will be the last year of snow and very excited... I also have horrible arthritis that is terrible in the cold, so I will no longer be in terrible pain. I painted a ton of porcelain masks for presents this and every year for family and friends, so they always get something I make and love it. Love you and the content!!! Happy holidays!!!!
Hello from New Zealand. No snow here as we're heading into summer. I would love to experience a white Christmas at least once but summer Christmas is fun.
Thanks Lo for the gift guide! I’m an organized gifter(oldest daughter here!) but needed one last gift for my brother- found the perfect idea on the list!!!!!
Here it already has been snowing a little bit, but as always it melts away. It became pretty rare for us to have white winters in most parts of Germany. (I'm from Germany)
I'm in Wyoming, and we never have a disappointing snowy holiday season. Weather always comes through, but the wind here is fuggin brutal. Our "real" winter won't start until February/march. That's when we get pounded by mother nature. It's all good though, because that's what makes Wyoming turn into the most beautiful state in spring 🩵💜🩵💜
Wanted to thank you for introducing me to the candle warmer last year. I brought one for my sister-in-law on a whim last Christmas, and it turned out she had really wanted one! So you made me into a mindreader😄
I've never bought anything you've suggested, just love watching your videos, for Xmas I bought myself a car, first nice thing I've ever bought for myself
I used to bake a lot so I have so many amazing recipes to choose from, but every year my mom and I always make Nestle toll house chocolate chip cookies (using the recipe on the back of the bag) and add Christmas M&Ms. We also use a banana bread recipe from an old cookbook from the 80s or 90s. We make both of them in huge batches (the banana bread we made yesterday took 7 cups bananas, 12 cups of flour, etc). So nothing really special with the recipes, but it's still a tradition to make them 😊 We usually have the Rankin Bass Christmas movies playing on the TV while we make the cookies
Suggestion for recipe development: put some of those cute green sprinkles on top of the whipped cream in the hot chocolate. That would just take the visuals over the top!
Add some marshmallows to the pretzels. The marshmallows can be used for your drink. Heavy cream with some Dutch honey for the chocolate with the marshmallow melting will look amazing at adding them by layers then sprinkling the mallows, plop that candy cane bow and voila! Hot salted butter chocolate optional topping crushed pretzel pieces, candy canes !
My two favorite seasonal recipes every year are latkes and sweet potato casserole (the one with cranberries mixed in and oats and sugar crumble topping and toasted marshmallows). I know I could technically make them any time of year, but somehow they only end up made on Hanukkah and Christmas xD
We rarely get snow in central TX, when we do everything shuts down for a day or so (unless it’s like 2021 when we also lost power - I was one of the lucky ones as I only lost power for a couple of hours, while many others were without power for several days).
For the pizza dough, you could try brie and dried cranberries or currants or jam and stick some rosemary on them with honey, add flaky salt or decorating sugar for a little sparkle
For my two youngest nieces ( just turned two and will be 7.5 months), I have been buying since January, at the latest. I currently have a bowl, plate, cup and cutlery set, a hooded bath towel and washcloth (all llama/alpaca/sheep themed), some bibs with sleeves that are dog themed, plus a couple of sleep suits for the younger one, and for the older one, I have a board game where you have to find certain animals, a giraffe hooded bath towel/robe with a little bath mitt shaped like a duck, a little wooden pull along duck with stackable pieces and a duck puzzle. Ideally I would like to get them some books too ( in French for the youngest and in English for the 2 year old). For my older niece (7 years old) and my nephew (4 years old), I have ideas but nothing bought yet. Ithink I will get them some books in French and some art supplies. For my cousins’ kids, I have Lego sets and lunchboxes, all in a space theme. Now I need to get wrapping paper and prepare everything to send off. How is it almost December?
We have been making a pear and blueberry crumble for Christmas the last several years and it is amazing whether you use a crumble mix or make your own from scratch, both are good
This is my first real winter ever (I used to live near the ocean in California and now I live in Alaska) and we've already gotten at least a couple feet of snow!
Love Chris' shirt! LOTR fan here! Also a nice idea the pizza tree, I agree that will be nice to add some tomato sauce and cutting it thinner. Hot chocolate, you can add amaretto for an almond liqueur touch.
Spanish hot chocolate is thick like that too. That with churros is like a typical thing here and mostly on the 1st of january after partying all night.
FINALLY hit a new low of a whopping 65 degrees where i live the other day…but it’s supposed to be back up to 79 tomorrow 🙃 so definitely no snow here 😭 so your videos are the only thing making it feel like Christmas
I live in south Texas so although it does snow here, most years it’s not even enough to cover the grass and often melts on contact. We have significant snow about every 20-30 years. In 2021 we had a major week long storm with enough snow to build a snowman and half the state had no power for a week. It was crazy but the kids will remember it forever as a fun time even though they were only toddlers. I can’t imagine living up north and having to deal with the cold that y’all do. Our high for this week is still in the 80s!
Down here on the South Coast of the UK, we rarely have snow but we had some on Thursday of this week - it was crazy. It hung around till Friday and then storm Bert came in and it got warmer, wet and windy. We sometimes get a bit of snow in February
I live in Portsmouth, England. It snowed for about 20 minutes the other day but didn’t lay. Previous to this, 2010. That’s how often it snows on the south coast. Scotland however , loads of snow every year. I’d like it to snow Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and disappear on Boxing Day
Rachel can you please try making Hungarian chimney cakes. I keep seeing them pop up as a fun treat to try, but would love for you to test the best recipe. I think they are mostly sweet, but I've had a savory one that was great as well.
Thank you so much for trying the candy cane bows!! I saw those and have been waiting to see if you’ll do them in your channel before I commit to making them. I thought they looked cute but am going to rewatch a few times to learn how to do those but smaller for the mini wreaths
i’m making a similar christmas tree pizza thing, but a huge one. i roll out the rectangle the same way, but then i cut it in half into two big triangles and put them together like a christmas tree. then i cut it from both sides into thin strips, leaving the middle uncut. each strip is then twisted a few times. i put some egg wash and sesame seeds on top and bake.
We have snow which makes me sad for one reason. There's a tradition/saying in my country that says "If there's snow/ice on 25th November, there will be no snow at Christmas". Which was true in the previous years... On the other hand I was happy that my 3yo son could see snow and play. Because of the climate change, I don't think he'll see too much snow as he keeps growing... Also, I'm definitely making that christmas tree puff pastry.
We've had a few days of snow already this year and I am in North Idaho! I wonder if the wreath would work better if you staggard the pretzel layers instead of two layers directly on top of each other (lay the top layer over where the pretzels on the bottom layer connect).
as a French person, what you made is the basis for hot chocolate, except I think you're supposed to mix the chocolate cream with milk to thin it out and make it drinkable
Agreed. You would add warm milk or cream until it's perfectly drinkable. And if you like it sweeter you can add powdered sugar to the whipped cream.
I also think that she may have heated the milk up to much which will make the texture way thicker then it should be.
I was thinking the same thing
I also sometimes put a splash of Baileys in it. Just a splash. For the adults.
French here :) I will also add more milk/cream to make it the consistency you want. Shouldn’t be pudding/ganache like.
Why yes, I would love a cup of ganache. 😆
I seriously would love nothing more, it looks perfect. It just needs a bigger spoon😂
😂 My first thought "This is not a hot chocolate, this is ganache.
You could make a box of truffles with all that cream and chocolate.
LOL. My first thought was that is a chocolate sauce not a drink.
You said it before I could🤣
Can we all just have a m😅ment to praise Rachel for opening the pizza dough canisters without even a flinch!!!? Who is this imposter???

For the trees just make spinach pizza dough! Naturally green, might not be super pigmented you could try some green spiralina or something too!
While it's colder, you should do a hot chocolate vs. hot cocoa taste test in a variety of recipes to find the "best" combos.
Or test the “200 year old” hot cacao recipe from the Elf movie
Yesss I would pay to see that video
The Icing Artist just did that today!@@thissarah5228

Yes!

the "Oh yea" was so Canadian! lol Little red hots holly would be adorable
Ooh, I was thinking red M&M's, but the cinnamon candies would be so cute! Plus I love those things!
Favorite part of my weekend, new Rachel baking content!!! Plus it’s a Christmas video what more could you ask for?? Maybe seeing Dibsy in one🎄🍪
Your wreath gave me flashbacks to when I was younger. I remember candy wreaths made with cornflakes and red hots.
Girl that is basically ganache! 😳
That's what I was thinking!
The chocolate I would maybe dip a croissant in it
No snow - but an Australian Christmas is never snow. The trees look like a perfect Picnic food for an Aussie Christmas event!

Chris is RIGHT we used way more milk into hot chocolate^^ i use 2-3 sticks for 1/2 L of milk (depends on preferences) you need to be able to sip it ^^
In Wisconsin we use more milk also.
Irish cream would be good with the ganache "hot chocolate" you made.
I recently found a bottle of Caramel Cream liquor, it would work to!

Thank you for the list 🎄
We have been making a pear and blueberry crumble for Christmas the last several years and it is amazing whether you use a crumble mix or make your own from scratch, both are good
This is my first real winter ever (I used to live near the ocean in California and now I live in Alaska) and we've already gotten at least a couple feet of snow!
“Oh yeah” 🤣🤣 in the most Canadian accent I’ve ever heard in my life had my howling-I love it!!!❤
Love Chris' shirt!
Your videos bring so much joy!!
Smiles all around, all day!!
How great would it be to make a bunch of those trees and wreaths for gift baskets 🎄❄️🎁
Down here on the South Coast of the UK, we rarely have snow but we had some on Thursday of this week - it was crazy. It hung around till Friday and then storm Bert came in and it got warmer, wet and windy. We sometimes get a bit of snow in February
The pudding hot chocolate looks so good
I live in Portsmouth, England.
I fear I would still watch if it was a video of you just opening candy canes 😅 you’re my comfort creator ❤
I absolutely love your cozy Santa vibes of your comfy clothing choices!!!
i’m making a similar christmas tree pizza thing, but a huge one. i roll out the rectangle the same way, but then i cut it in half into two big triangles and put them together like a christmas tree. then i cut it from both sides into thin strips, leaving the middle uncut. each strip is then twisted a few times. i put some egg wash and sesame seeds on top and bake.
Thank you Rachel, you make me smile. 😊
We've had a few days of snow already this year and I am in North Idaho! I wonder if the wreath would work better if you staggard the pretzel layers instead of two layers directly on top of each other (lay the top layer over where the pretzels on the bottom layer connect).
Snow ❄️ here in Scotland 🏴
Right on time for the Christmas markets !! 🎉
Also love you and your videos I love your humor ❤
You can also soften any candy. You lay the softened candy over an upturned container to shape into a decorative bowl.
Yes we have already had snow here in the UK ❄️⛄Those Pizza trees look yummy 😋 Xx
