If you have to switch to Cinema 4D rendering just launch C4D Lite and do your icons over there. Even Lite offers so much more compared to what you can do with those dinky little layer controls in AE directly.
What about blender

what do i do if i wanted to use the 4d cinema function to add depth to the icons like you did in this video but also use DOF on 3d cameras
What if you don't have Cinema 4D software ?
Cinema 4D is a 3D render option in AE and you don’t need extra software for it.

Is there a motion preset or expression for the icon that “bounces” smaller and smaller amounts before coming to a complete stop? (At roughly the 1 to 2 second mark)
