The earthbound “hallow’s end” hack. It’s a Halloween themed hack, but with a lighter tone. It’s also a little more polished with a better story and dialog. The difficulty is a little punishing in the late game, but it’s still a fantastic, unique rom hack.
Hi there! I'm the guy that made the Mother 3 Claus Journey hack and I wanted to say thanks for including my hack in your video! *(I did see you misnamed it as "Claus's Adventure in the description, it's actually Claus's Journey, I would appreciate if you could fix that so it doesn't get confused by another hack that had that name but only changed the sprites and nothing else)*, Admittedly the biggest changes the hack could do is mostly flavor text, as in NPCs talking to Claus differently, Claus actually having inner dialogue when he checks a lot of things, and different conversations happening in the story. *The reason I couldn't make a more ambitious hack to change the story so drastically outside of different conversations is because Mother 3 hacking is so limited that you can't really change story event flags due to the size limit on the GBA. Honestly the way I hacked Mother 3 is probably the most changing you can really do for the game, there's a reason there's no other ambitious Mother 3 specific hacks out there. * Admittedly it hurt to hear you called the hack skippable, but I get it, it's really just for people that want a different lens on the Mother 3 story (it's similar to Rat Race in having a lot of twists and turns dialogue wise to reflect Claus's perspective and Claus even has his own character arc seperate from Lucas which you can see if you talk to everyone and inspect everything). The biggest change I did was the final battle where I actually had way more liberty than I expected to and I was able to add in a lot of dialogue to make the fight fairly different. I changed Lucas and Claus's musical instrument sounds to be their proper ones too. Also, the Porky Statue boss is now defeatable by normal means, you don't need PK Flash or the Thousand Year Rocket to do it either. I think you'd appreciate it the game more if you ever do finish it, but up to you. Regardless, thanks so much for mentioning me as I think my hack didn't really garner much attention to begin with, but I'm still happy to be recognized here and there! >w>b If you have a Discord, I'd be happy to talk with you on there if you ever have any suggestions for how I could improve the hack, or even if you just want to chat about Mother stuff as well, though that's up to you. Just wanted to say that I'm excited to play your rendition of mother 3 ^-^ I really thought that experiencing the game in Claus's perspective is a nice touch especially since I was sad that we only got to play as Claus in the original game only once >,< I'm also interested how Claus's character can affect the game since indeed, the twins have different personalities! I really enjoyed Earthbound beginnings on Wii U. I got considerably far in it before My file got corrupted . I had downloaded the 25th anniversary remake a long time ago , still haven’t given it a shot yet. Great job on this video man!
The best Earthbound hack I have ever played and finished is called "Earthbound: Hallow's End", it offers a lovely halloween-themed story with new enemies and funny dialogue. The bosses were extremely fun as well.

Easily fact checked by the visible shared copyright present on all official Mother merchandise sold through Itoi's personal company Hobonichi. Which operates independently from Nintendo. Even the simple use of the Mother logo on keychains requires Nintendo be credited alongside Itoi. The only reason Itoi retains co-ownership of the IP is because he wasn't a Nintendo employee. The series was a joint project between both parties.

I mean, how is the Halloween hack even good??? I think even Toby Fox said that it wasn't good or he regretted it or something. Hallow's End should've DEFINITELY been on here instead of the Halloween hack.
Hallow's end is one of my favourite eb romhacks, discarding the difficulty and grind (you don't grind for exp. you grind for money) it has a very good story and the bosses are amazing and challenging, and you literally fight MissingNo!
of note: both touhou mother and its sequel have nearly perfect recreations of EB's and M3's battle systems respectively, despite being made in RPG maker 2000 of all things
It's great cuz this is only the stuff that's out now. There's so much more coming. Those of you who've watched the fanmade Mother Direct know there's a lot of Mother related fan projects in development. Personally I'm pretty excited for Mother²
Most people forget Toby also made a few other hacks. His other major one is Arn’s Winter Quest. I don’t think it was as drastic of a hack compared to the Halloween Hack, but it’s another big project he had when he was still going by “Radiation.”
One thing I like mother cogdis is how it re-characterize George, Maria, and Giegue relationship because (Spoilers): Instead of showing George abandoning his family as most people do, it shows him actual trying to escape with his family but Maria is locked into Magicant on their way to the spaceship leaving George the only one to actually reach the escape ship.
I never took George returning to Earth as him being an asshole. Anyone reasonable would want to leave and return home. The way Mother 1 handles this is by keeping it open to interpretation how it exactly went, which lets us fairly imagine that humanity in general is flawed, we're neither inherently bad or good (and neither are the aliens but another discussion)

I helped beta test MaternalBound and will always advocate for and suggest that anyone into Mother/EarthBound should play it. Definitive edition for sure.
My favourite EarthBound hacks (as well as the only ones I've ever played) are Radiation's Halloween Hack, Arn's Winter Quest (also made by Toby Fox but *very* underrated), and Hallow's End
I agree that Undertale shouldn't be considered a "Mother Fan Game" but it did start life as a Mother 2 Hack called "Underbound" before some troll with a stupid joke acidentally helped the project spin off into its own thing

"Infact, some of them aren't even good" I'd say most fangames are pretty bad. It takes a lot to be able to recreate the experience of an official game. Also Mother 25th Anniversery is a Rom hack, so you can simply apply the patch to a ROM file using various applications. You do not NEED an original cart to be able to play it.
When a 14 year old dude made a very edgy rom hack to now his one of the most indi developer with a famous game title of all time. *"WHEN YOU CRAP YOU'LL SING FUCKING BEETHOVEN"* then the infamous song starts to play
I'm not a huge fan of Mother 25th because the enemy sprites got changed for the worse IMO. It sucks, because I think pretty much everything else is a change for the better. The enemy sprites just look weird and smoothed? I liked the original enemy sprites better.
To be honest I prefer the original nes earth bound zero the simple look is a lot more charming and I like the challenge. I don't like how the 25th anniversary look don't get me wrong it's not bad but I'm not the biggest fan of it the characters look chubby and the game is too easy
The mother 1 25th anniversary is NOT the best way of playing mother 1. All the assets are worst and the original had so much charm lost in this version. Also, the game is now a cake walk as opposed to being a real challenge with fun and interesting battles.
The Touhou Mother games are extremely esoteric. It's fanfiction with a bunch of references to Japanese memes and internet subculture. It's meaningless if you don't have a deep appreciation for Touhou. Also you used fan game footage for your representation of actual Touhou lmao.
I disagree with 25th anniversary edition so much. It makes the game completely imbalanced and straight up breaks some aspects of it in the name of making it "better"
I didn't really like The Rat Race very much. What I played of it felt like it was turning into a weird political tract from the author, in the guise of "hey you can play Earthbound as a girl!"
There are also Earthbound hacks that are challenge hacks because putting the word "Challenge" to an Earthbound hack will make will make the game much harder by changing or adding a game play mechanic. For example in the level challenge hack the leveling up mechanic has been changed as all enemies give you 1 XP and every level is 1 XP and then at level 99 your game ends. In the speed challenge hack you have to complete the game in less than 2 hours as a new time limit mechanic has been implemented and if you finish the game over 2 hours your game will get restarted and another new mechanic is that if you get a game over your game also restarts. Because of the nature of the Earthbound hacks being challenges where they're new or changed mechanics, this means you won't beat the game usually by defeating Giygas instead these challenges are for you to see how far you'll go But then today on Saturday November 12th 2022 at 06:07 PM EST I made it to level 99 in the Earthbound challenge hack when Ness reached level 99 in the Saturn Valley caves and then the game has ended. It seems to look like that this location is where the hack when you have Ness always alive as he's the strongest party member and also on this website link here: earthboundcentral.com/2010/03/earthbound-level-challenge-hack/ the screenshot on the right shows the game ending right when Ness first reaches level 99 making this location to get to after defeating 99 enemies as this location for me and in the picture is always coincidencal or it will tell where the most likely location where the game will end when Ness reaches level 99
