I believe that to an extent Porky probably made everything in New Pork City and the Empire Porky Building as a mocking obstacle for Ness to overcome, but because he never showed up, Lucas became the next best thing. First, when you enter the Beauty and Tasty restaurant, it has all the foods you’d expect Porky to like, but the meal that stands out the most is the beefsteak. It’s the most expensive item on the menu and if you remember, Ness loved steak, but Ness’s mom said that Porky hated it. It’s like Porky knew Ness wouldn’t have the money to buy it if he got to New Pork City. However, with Lucas, beefsteak isn’t his favorite food, so it wouldn’t mean anything to him.
Porky didn’t build his crazy rooms (toilet dungeon, fan room, hippo pool, etc.) in the Empire Porky Building because he loved them. He built them to show off all the cool stuff he had to Ness so that if he ever arrived, he could mock him over the intercom like he does with Lucas. The fan room was his way of showing a lot of girls like him, the toilet dungeon was to show off his golden toilet, and the hall of memories would’ve been Porky’s way of saying “Hey Ness! Remember all of this stuff? Well, it’s mine now!” But since it’s Lucas journeying through the building, Lucas wouldn’t have any vehement reaction because it would have no meaning to him. What really makes me think this is true is that in the rooms just before the 100th floor, Porky makes Lucas play silly mini-games against a tiny robot copy of himself. However Lucas needs to lose to the Porky-bot intentionally by a hair, or he won’t be able to proceed. Porky could’ve set up this exact scenario for Ness just so he could glee at the fact that he’s beating Ness.
Once you finally fight Porky, one of very the last lines he says before the fight ends is, “Thank you for playing along with me all the way to the end like this. I’m actually a pretty nice guy, wouldn’t you say? Porky’s messed up, but he’s kind of thanking Lucas and the player for playing his twisted games because Ness wasn’t there. This is likely the most fun Porky’s probably had in years and from a boy who likely reminds him of his long gone next-door neighbor. If you look at it a certain way, Lucas is probably the only other kid besides Ness that Porky’s ever “played” with in his life and it’s basically boils down to who can pull the world-altering needles first.
You did a really amazing job with this video analyzing Porky, along with your previous one on Picky. Porky’s a very tragic and yet despicable Nintendo villain and I wish he got a little more recognition among the other great Nintendo villains. I also wish he was a playable character in Smash Ultimate (or at the very least return as a boss) cause he’s got a lot of potential for a creative move set if his boss fight in Brawl was any sign. I know there aren’t many videos on Porky or the Mother series, so it’s always great to see new perspective videos on those subjects pop out of the blue

I had a wild thought about Porky's fate. Magicaint seems to be created from a combination of overwhelming psychic powers and love. The opposite of that would be what happened to Giygas, with hatred instead of love. What if all the hate in Porky's heart will lead to his body becoming torn apart like Giygas? The absolutely safe capsule would pretty much become a devil's machine for Porky himself if that happened.

This would make a good prompt for a sequel, IMO. Someone finds the way to finally open the Safe Capsule and in doing so unleashes the new ultimate evil. You could even write the plot about rumors of some treasure down there, the villains hoping to use that treasure to take over the world.

I’d think if it was brought back it would be impossible to gut porky but he would request that you do and you could have a choice to end his misery where I feel u should never make a deal with the devil never wanna live forever even without a afterlife it would just show that if u decided to go down that route you’d suffer never be able to be a kid anymore ur body wouldn’t be itself it would be kept alive by machines which it’s just a fitting karmatic ending because of what he made claus go through u see claus slips away at the very end but u see him in the credits with Lucas if u don’t pull the needle I think the credits take place in the afterlife if u do it could take place where they just have to rebuild the world, plays out completely the same either or but they r two verrrry different endings. It’s just u see claus is free from porky turning him into a solider that would hurt his own brother porky is not so lucky he is still in that capsule at the end where eventually he’ll suffer the same fate he gave claus n many of the other animals so it’s a very fitting demise for the antagonist of the franchise

I really do think this whole story of Porky's lore from both the second and third Mother games does hold true to the old proverb that monsters aren't born, they are created. And I greatly think that Porky is a shining example of that proverb. Especially with how parents mistreated and abused him through his whole life.

This video reminds me of just how well-written Pokey/Porky's character is, especially his descent into villainy. It’s pretty scary that some people are just steps away from going down a horrible and dark path. I almost ended up going down a bad path too. When I was much younger, I was very miserable and lonely. People were awful to me, and in my head, it justified me being awful to others. I would lash out constantly and pick on anyone who didn't like me. My friends at the time encouraged me to continue doing bad things and it made me feel important and noticed in a way. Really embarrassing tbh. Thankfully, with the help of family and other, much better friends (who are thankfully still present in my life to this day), I was able to change for the better. But I sometimes wonder what would have happened if I did not have these people to support me. If I didn’t have any guidance or any good role models to teach me, I’d be a completely different person. I think a lot about the people I've hurt in the past and feel horrible about it. I wish I had the chance to give them a proper apology. And occasionally, I think about the friends I had who encouraged my past behavior and hope they changed for the better too.
Anyways this video is peak thank you for this amazing video!!

I really appreciate this video. Porky Minch is one of my all time favorite characters in media ever. He’s just so endlessly interesting. I think part of what makes him work so well as a character, is that he somehow manages to be really simple but also really complex? I don’t know it’s hard to explain. Maybe it’s just that his complexity is conveyed in a simple and upfront manner?
He really does feel like a symbol of humanity, as Itoi said. His life and fate feel like a fable that warns others, and helps them push themselves to be the best they can be.

Porky is an almost perfect mirror foil to Ness. Ness's journey is about realizing his own power and learning to rely on others. Porky meanwhile spends the entire game sucking up to those more powerful than himself and betraying them when he cant' mooch off them anymore. And where Ness and later Lucas manage to succeed by virtue of everyone they helped on their journey coming to their aid, Porky's idea of "winning" is isolating himself forever so that nobody can make contact with him anymore, for all eternity.

You didn't mention his brother, Picky, much. It does say something that the kid is able to remain positive given that he's in the same situation as Pokey. There were people that Pokey could have reached out to if he wanted to escape the pit of despair that was his life. You can blame your parents all you want for eternity, but at some point you need to realize that other people out there have it worse then you, and decide to be good to other people. If you don’t have your bat out when you go to the meteor for the first time in Earthbound, Porky will tell you to equip it. And if you don’t know how to equip your item, he’ll actually tell you how to do it. True, it’s possible he could’ve been making fun of you for not knowing basic game mechanics, but it doesn’t really feel mocking, like the same way he does when he talks to Ness’s mom.

Mother 3 is a masterpiece partly because it completely transcends its medium (old school style RPG video game) and absolutely breaks your heart. And I might be in the minority but my heart absolutely broke for Pokey. Yes, in Mother 3 he is the ultimate bad who we long to see face retribution. But in Earthbound he was just a cute, pudgy little kid from an abusive home who didn't know how to be a friend because he was never really loved. But he still wanted friends. That's why in 3 he has that yoyo under guard. And he still wanted his mama. That's why there are Lardnabots. He just wanted love and attention. Hence why he gave himself all those presents he never bothered to open. But he's so twisted up in all his hurt and anger and, like Giygas before him, he gets lost in it forever. His parents were never there for him, so he gravitated to what paid him attention and gave him "love," Giygas. I know it's just fiction, just a game. But I will always be sad for Pokey. Always.

    I just had a thought.
Porky was essentially lost in time after the world is reset.
The only reason we know about Giygas being Guiege are from either Buzz buzz, who came from the future to Ness probably sent BY Ness in a John Connor moment, and Pokey saying so.
What if Giygas was actually Porky all along, believing he is Giygas due to his own past beliefs, sent by Lucas to 5.5 billion years before Mother and maybe even affecting the real Guiege?
What if the Evil Apple had been the Absolutely Safe Capsule all along and the Demon Machine a way to open it?
It explains quite a lot of Giyhas' dialogue, why he keeps calling for Ness and saying he feels happy they are fighting.
Of course, this renders all the Mother references affecting Giygas being from either that time he affected Guiege or even because Pokey remembers them doing *something*.

Porky going from the moronic rival to pure evil was the insane progression of his character i never knew i needed until we had it.

I do wish there were an alternate ending that before Porky enters the Absolutey Safe Capsule, Ness would be able to intervene with him, stopping him before he puts himself into a fate of no return. And Porky realizes the harm he has brought to the world and himself, along with his abusive parents being the catalyst. While Porky's parents have their custody permanently taken away, he later accepts whatever punishment that's coming for him, and after years of reflection and hard work, Porky becomes ready to pave his own path of redemption.
Also, when is Part 5 of the dark aspects of the Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door remake coming?

I still think that the only way Porky can redeem himself is by dying, and trust me I'm ALWAYS willing to find good in anyone even Dr.Wily or Junko Enoshima because to me everyone does have a bit of kindness and evilness inside them and pure good/evil doesn't exist and the least you can have is 1% (or 0.00001% if you want to be generous with Junko). I do believe that's never late to find the path of redemption but sadly some villains are just too far gone to ever redeem themselves. In other words we can be good and chooses to stay good but most people prefer to switch side and stay in the wrong path

Personally I would have leaned more on referencing Diavolo's fate more than Kars
Because Kars at least got the solace of his brain basically shutting off as he floated through space. "Eventually he stopped thinking" as he turned to stone. This is essentially death as he no longer becomes conscious of himself as he turns into an icy meteor
Whereas Diavolo will never lose consciousness, he's trapped in a perpetual repeating hell where he ironically through the repeating of him dieing over and over in new situations, he too is unable to truely die and he stays conscious of it.
I guess it really depends on after those billions of years, would Porky eventually stop thinking? Or will he still be trapped in the prison of his thoughts

I will not lie, I didn't think someone would make a video like this for someone as heartless as Porky, much less have a softer view of the character. It's super well made btw and filled with stuff I didn't even know was a thing like the interviews with Itoi. While I don't agree with him being the most diabolical Nintendo villain out there (Mostly because I'm not a Mother fan), I think he is 100% high up there with the worst of them. I do agree with him missing the boat on Ultimate (that and an F-Zero villain are long overdue along with me wanting Andross to at least have a boss fight next game). This video was so well made I wish I could like it twice.

Great video! Porky is probably one of my favorite fictional villains of all time. There's just so many layers to him. First of all, you don't see many child villains, and the fact that it only took a few bad days to push him this way. The scene in Happy Happy Village after Ness defeats Carpainter, where Porky apologizes makes me wonder something. In the original Japanese version when Porky takes Ness' silence as rejection, could Ness have prevented what was to come? Granted I think Giygas would have just found another right hand person. I have thought about what it must be like to be stuck in the absolutely safe capsule for all eternity and it's a downright terrifying thought. I think the only other villain in fiction who may have gotten a worse death or on par with Porky was Elder Toguro from Yu Yu Hakusho

    • @ThaneGaming
      @ThaneGaming  8 годин тому

@@kabinovskorner7205 So I think that bit about Porky taking Ness' silence as a rejection is an urban legend, because I checked the scene in Japanese and it plays out almost exactly like the English one (he still turns around and says "I lied"!). Mato doesn't mention anything about it in his book either, which likely means the differences weren't notable enough to be included. That's being said, I think you could certainly read it that way in either version. I do think that there were opportunities for Ness to have prevented (or at least slowed down) Porky's descent, starting with Porky's “refusal of the call” when he insists he isn't one of the chosen boys Buzz Buzz speaks of. Had Ness encouraged him more, perhaps Porky wouldn't be motivated to antagonize and see him as an ultimate rival. I'm not familiar with the fate of Elder Toguro but I've heard of Yu Yu Hokusho so I'll have to look it up!

So, yeah, he deserved his fate absolutely, he missed the chance to redeem himself, so the only way, in my opinion, to save the world and people from his harmful ways is to isolate him from the world in that capsule. There are people who make pure evil actions and their past should never justified their evil actions. @@IAARPOTI I agree that his actions as a dictator are not and should never be justified for the rest of eternity. His evil actions were his own, he is responsible for them and can never be "redeemed" in that sense. I would say a dictator irl like you're describing should be locked away for the rest of their days and we shouldn't feel sorry for them. What we're talking about here though is an impossible fictional scenario where said dictator lives on in isolation for all of time. That is something beyond comprehension to us, because no human has or will ever experience eternal life. In billions of years from now, Porky will have lived more lifetimes than all of our ancestors combined, trapped all alone with nothing to do but reflect on his actions.
