This is exactly what we are doing in June. A lot of the excursions only spent 1 hours at the glacier and I wanted more time there so this looks perfect.
I read that 100 years ago, the glacier went most of the way back to the visitor's center. (And covered the falls) I'll be going there, next June, on the Bliss.
Awesome! Enjoy your Cruise. We sailed there on the Joy, The sister ship and had a wonderful time. And yes, it is sad that the glacier is receding. You can even see that it's gone back over the last few years.
Nice video, thanks. We will be cruising there next June. Trying to map out our Juneau stop to fit everything in as we want to do whale watching as well.
Thank you for this video, you answered 2 questions I have been searching answers to. I use a rollator walker and it looks like I shouldn't have any trouble getting to the falls. Second I was wondering what the blue bus company was called. Thanks again.
Thanks for the info, always looking for info on what port operators offer. I assume this was $45 a person, and do the busses just show up every 30 mins? No set time to leave? Did you happen to catch when their last buses pick up? As research seems like about 45 each way for a cab/uber and since there will be 2 of us, it ends up being about the same price anyways, but lil more organized this way.
Do you recommend the city tour and shuttle bus to mendenhall glacier that have reserved time/seat for $60 per person? I’m concern about the long lines/ long wait in June if we book the anytime shuttle bus for $45 per person.
We were back there a few days ago and they were still selling tours when we got off the ship. But I can't say for every sailing. If your worries about it then book ahead. Worst case you can also take a taxi.
I can only walk but so far. Nugget Falls are out but how far from the parking lot to the Visitor Center and the point where pics can be taken of the Glacier? Don
From the shuttle stop, I'm guessing it is about 500 ft to the visitors center. There is an elevator at the bottom near the restrooms. To the main photo stop it is probably about a 1/3rd of a mile each way. If you go to google maps and search "Mendenhall Glacier Visitor Center" you should be able to figure out all of the exact measurements with the scale. Enjoy your trip!!
Thank you so much for your response. I think that I can do that easily. Will have to forfit trying to get to Nuggett Falls. That's a bit far, especially if there are no benches to stop and rest. Getting old here but want to see and do all that I can. You viseo and response is very much appreciated. Looking forward to the trip , 20 days, 21 hours and 22 minutes, but who's counting. Don
Heading out this coming Tuesday to alaska . Should I book the blue bus in advance? Or do u think once import I can buy? I really wanna go the nugget falls and mendenhall
We were just there about a month ago and you can buy this excursion still as soon as you got off the ship. Worst case you could take a taxi for only a little bit more.
I think it was only about 20min to half an hour to the glacier each way. You could stay as long as you wanted and grab the bus when you were ready to go back. I believe it left every half an hour.
@@NorthernVikingExplorer Greatly appreciate it for the information! That's exactly what I needed to know if the give you enough time to truly enjoy the Mendenhall Glacier and Falls... Thank you so very much!
Very informative video. I do have a question for you. Can we buy the tickets once we arrive there or do we have to pre-purchase the tickets ahead of time?
The main trail at the glacier had lots of people so it's quite safe. If you decide to venture off on your own I would be a little bit more weary and maybe carry bear spray.

Thank you for your kind words! 👍 Hello from British Columbia Canada 🇨🇦
Very informative , thx 🙏
You're welcome 🤗
Great video. Do we have to book in advance for this tour, or you can purchase tickets at the boot anytime? Thank you for sharing.
You would have to look online to see if it's available. If not there are also taxis and lyft available.
Great video! I appreciate this since I would normally be hesitant to sign up with a tour company right off the ship. Thanks!
You're very welcome 👍
12 days before I go there. What time of year did you go??? I saw shorts on people in your Video.
Have an awesome time! This was at the end of June carrying over into July.
@@NorthernVikingExplorer I'm going to bring a few pairs of shorts, in case we get good weather. 12 days from now.
Thanks.
I was getting excited about this excursion until you mentioned the bears 🐻 lol.
Lol 😂 I'm sure you'll be fine.
Sorry , did you buy a commercial tour ? Do they have regular busses to the Glacier?
Yes, this is a commercial tour. They are at the port and available for booking when you arrive.

I think it’s the Blue Glacier Express. Note: if it’s raining, I think a part of the trail can be muddy. I thought I saw that in another.

Yes it was per person and the buses just kept doing loops and showed up every 30 minutes. I don't recall what time the last bus was.
@@NorthernVikingExplorer thanks, keep up the good videos!

Heading there in august. Should I book now ?? Or wait till I arrive? Will they be all sold out?

Did u have time to shop in the city after your tour?
Yes we had time to shop after. It all depends on how long you decide to stay at nugget falls.
Great info - exactly what I was looking for!
Awesome 👍 Thanks for watching.
Is there enough time from docking at 1 leaving at 6:30 to do the tram and the blue bus to the glacier?
I feel like you would be rushed to do both of them. Maybe do the tram second because it's closer to the ship so you know how much time you have left.
This was the best 45 dollars I have ever spent.
Heading out this coming Tuesday to alaska . Should I book the blue bus in advance? Or do u think once import I can buy? I really wanna go the nugget falls and mendenhall

👍👍👍 💖💖💖
Do you pay in cash or do they take debit there?
Thank you for this very informative video. Could you please state how long was this tour?
I think it was only about 20min to half an hour to the glacier each way. You could stay as long as you wanted and grab the bus when you were ready to go back. I believe it left every half an hour.

We purchased them when we arrived but that was a few years ago. I am not sure what there process is now.
@@NorthernVikingExplorer ah OK. Thank you
@@NLMusique You can buy them at the booth.
Will this bus allow wheel chairs to be loaded on the bus?
That's a good question. You'll need to contact the company directly to find out.
We will be arriving on the Bliss in August (port time 7am to 130 pm) do we have enough time to do this?....I dont imagine much has changed
Yes, that would be enough time but it depends on how much sightseeing/ hiking you plan to do.
Is that $45 per person, or was that all together for 2 people?
We paid $45 per person. But that was a couple years ago. It's possible the price is slightly higher now.
$45 dollars 4 years ago, how much does this trip in 2025??
How is this for someone in a wheelchair?
It helped
Perfect 👍
Its 80.oo now..just booked, fyi
Thanks for sharing the update. This was filmed a couple years ago.
👍👍👌✌️
Thanks for watching 🤗
how safe is it to walk around with the threat of bears? thanks for sharing..going to Alaska in a few weeks.
The main trail at the glacier had lots of people so it's quite safe. If you decide to venture off on your own I would be a little bit more weary and maybe carry bear spray.
It’s safe, never has there been a black bear attack, In the 36 years I’ve been going there.
Thank you, I am the bus driver.
Awesome 👍 We had such a great time and can't wait to come back.
how do we book this tour for may 2022?
