    As a retired painting contractor I see all the overspray by using an airless. I did a lot of cabinet work in my day but always used an HVLP unit. But this guy is a real craftsman. His prep work is spot on, so the overspray is of no consequence. And he's probably using a double orifice tip with, at the very least a dedicated materials hose, so the finish is going to be smooth. He may even have a spray unit dedicated to his cabinet work. I always preferred the control a conventional could give you. And a dead smooth finish. But this fellow knows his craft. Good to see.

    • @bingobunga8995
      @bingobunga8995 11 місяців тому +2

      Hvlp is better for fine finish than airless. Airless wastes so much material with a 35% transfer efficiency. All that pressure that has to be used to properly atomize the material through the orifice causes bounce back always. You can minimize it but it will never be as efficient as an hvlp. Don’t complain about the speed because you’ll spend all that time fixing the issues with the finish an airless gives you. Yea it’s priming whatever but for the finish coat Hvlp always. The doors you could get away with an air assisted airless but the boxes should be shot with an hvlp. The cabinet jobs make a lot of money it’s worth spending that little extra time with the hvlp to get that money and not have call backs or a tarnished reputation but to each his own.

      @@bingobunga8995 Not really a problem these days with the new low pressure fine finish tips for the airless setups. If you know what you're doing that is. And this guy definitely knows what he is doing.

    • @bingobunga8995
      @bingobunga8995 9 місяців тому +2

      @@sonofamountie maybe not so much but when quality cabinet finishes costs $80 and up for a gallon is it really worth losing 60% of it as overspray with an airless? I think not. Those fine finish tips waste more paint than the old school flat tips. Still I’m reaching for the compliant hvlp when it comes to that type of work all day.

    • @sonofamountie
      @sonofamountie 9 місяців тому +2

      @@bingobunga8995 To each their own I guess. Not sure where you are but in Australia where I live and work a good HVLP system will set you back at least $1500-$2000. So if you already have a good airless and you only do cabinetry occasionally it makes more sense to just use the FFLP tips. But I agree if you are doing this work a lot it would make sense to have both setups.

    • @wildliferox2

      These things go in cycles. In the 50's and 60's people painted their wooden cupboards as a reaction to life before, when everything was waxed and polished wood finish, poorly lit oak panelled rooms with little light etc. Then in the 80's and 90's people started stripping the wood panelling, and painted wooden floors and furniture to show off the really inherent beauty of wood. And now it seems the next generation and back to painting wood again. Its a little like the daughter who was made to go to ballet by her mom and suffered so didn't force her own daughter in turn to go to ballet. Only for that daughter in turn to then insist her daughter did ballet, and the cycle repeats.

This is why I dislike videos of trades on UA-cam the professionals make it look so easy that most people is a days think that it’s not worth what you charge. Everything is work nothing is east and all trades takes time, dedication and persistence in order to be mastered.
