Curved Screen vs Flat Panel for Gaming

- In theory, a curved gaming monitor offers a more immersive gaming experience - literally wrapping around you to immerse you in a different world. They can fill your peripheral vision and make you feel like you’re really in the game. In practice, there are a number of tradeoffs and things you’ll want to consider before buying a curved gaming monitor over a flat panel like this. In this video I want to talk you through the different factors - so let’s jump straight in.

Clarification on the EVNIA - it's actually 175Hz, not the 240Hz I mentioned in the video. It's still the best gaming experience I've had though!
I watch a lot of pornography on my PC. Are curved monitors better than flat ones?
With electronics you always start off excited about the new tv or headphones or monitor and as you dig deeper and deeper into the endless questions, differing online opinions and data dumps after awhile you just dont even want it anymore.
so real
I'm looking for a cheap 1440p gaming monitor(because in my country everything I'm looking for a cheap 27 inch 1440p gaming monitor(because in my country everything is expensive). And I saw one ViewSonic monitor with good specs for its price, at first I didn't mind the VA curved panel, but now I have watched so many reviews that I doubt buying this one and I think I might go with a cheaper flat IPS 24 inch monitor
@@xnoopyttheres an acer monitor that normally goes on sale on amazon for 199$ usd which is the price for 1080p monitors too at 24 inches, never tried it but its from a known brand
Acer Nitro XV271U M3bmiiprx model name
😆 spot on! Legit been doing research for my ps5 for the last 3 months. panel type -flat or curved -1080 or 1440-60hz or 120.
Every comment on forums or every video like you said everyone has different take. I don’t need the best I just want a solid screen for the price. It’s burned me out and I kinda just stopped thinking about getting one.
Informative, straight to the point, no bs, easy to listen to. Great work my man! Keep it going!
I like to sit farther from the monitor than the average person, so the curve just looks wrong to me.
i realized this after buying a 450 dollar curved monitor
@@thevillain9338ouch
@@thevillain9338 you returned it?
Just bought a curved monitor and it bothers me, I see/feel the curve on screen and I don't like it
@@Bajtjrsame here, setting up loadouts and seeing the weapon bent looks weird
Greatly appreciated your review. I don't know how you come up with the ideas. T.y sir 🙏
Thinking seriously about getting the Odyssey Neo G9 57 inch for the immersion. I'll probably need a stand to raise it to an appropriate height as most monitor stands are too short for comfortable viewing unless I slouch. Will be fun trying to find a stand for it though!
Flat every day of the week for me! Great video bud.
Will say, however, there are a few VAs that buckle the trend in terms of motion clarity and response time!
Curved is made for movie watchers and single player gamers. I dont think its made for competitive gaming. So for sure ill buy either one idc as long as i get a good price
Thanks for the video!
Hey would you recommend the evnia 8600 over the samsung G8?
@TechteamGB samsung neo g7 , 1000 R , 4k 165hz , worth to buy , 32 inch ??? and what is ideal distance for sitting 32 inch 1000R curve ???
Can you please review the HP Omen 32C
I've got a 1440p asus 180hrz 34" curved monitor. this thing is awesome. there is nothing slow about it. there are different curve ratings also. they are not all curved like a boomerang. I was going to buy a flat screen but saw my roommates curved 34", watched his gaming experience and i was converted. I now have a 34" curved and thinking about returning it for a slightly larger one.
you're putting yourself at a disadvantage if you're playing competitive games like Fortnite, CS:GO, Overwatch, League of Legends and the like.
@@Dabby724 how?
@@gueroloco6334 I've gamed on both competitively and the flat screen just allows the best FOV. With the large 30+ inch curved screen your head/eyeballs need to travel further to see targets which will add to the delay of your reaction inputs. That is why pros in the Esports scene play on only flat screens and the max size of a 27 inch screen (which is personally my favorite size). Don't get me wrong, curved screens are the ultimate immersive gaming experience for single player games or casual gaming but I game online and I like winning which is why I went with a 240hz .5ms 27 inch flat screen monitor. 😅
@@Dabby724 yea im just a weekend warrior
This is like round world versus flat world theory, it's just funny to me. 😊
So you telling me that you can prefer to use flat or round world?

I have an Alienware 3440x1440 ultrawide IPS panel and it's perfect for me, couldn't go back
Slight flex
My LG Ultrawide is IPS, shame it cost double a VA UW
I currently have varying resolution monitors, but my main for a long time now is my Alienware 👽IPS 3440 x 1440p ultrawide 3420DW with an 1800R curve. It’s as curved a monitor as I personally would get as i found the 1500R and ~1000R curves to be waaay too extreme for my liking.
Hi, I have always had a flat monitor. Until I got a curver monitor about 2 years ago. The only thing I noticed about it was the picture was slightly better. Because most of the recent flat monitors wherer 1080p And this new curved monitor was 2k. I never noticed the curve of the screen when sitting in front of it. As the picture seemed the same as a flat monitor. The last 1080p monitor was 60Hz and the new monitor was at 2k with a144hz refreh rate. It still did not notice it smooth out the motion on the screen and I was using a 3070 GPU. (Got theat one when Bitcoin miners where taking all the GPU's to mine on.) But after a few driver updates and setting the game up right for the monitor it was fine.
Man, i love the 1000r curve on my 27 inch monitor. So much so that I prefer it to the superior(flat) monitor of my brother. ;]
Don't do geometry on curved screens... Prone to look inconsistent depending on your head Position
Actually not depending on your head position. With a flat panel, there's one correct viewpoint; with a bent panel, none.
To get an accurate display on one of these bent monitors, you need to render with cylindrical projection. GPUs and games are built for rectilinear.
I bought a Dell 27 curved monitor. It's amazing. Don't think I can switch back to flat monitors. Lol
Guess he's never heard of OLED curved monitors before?
that i see at 3:00 this is come on i see it and i want to stop play in my current rig :) wow guys that monitor is there to tell you stop play eny thing ellse :) i mean is very beutifull!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hi bro i am a non fps gamer and i am using flat panel all my life. What would you recommend stay there or buy a curved panel.I don't know but i don't feel very comfortable with curved panels
but what about stuff like qd oled?
qd oled, wled and others is just iteration the same OLED or light emitting pixels.
I went from curved to flat monitor, just a warning, you might see concave after using curved for a long time
what is a concave
What is bro talking about
that happened to me after using a curved monitor for 3 years it was so trippy, concave is the opposite of curved, it makes flat panels look like they go outwards its hard to explain
maybe try focus in your physics class@@shookn
@@zikree ok thanks little bro
This guy sounds like he's in pain..
Why use "in theory" when what you mean obviously is "according to the sales pitch"? The theoretical advantages weren't even mentioned - one of a smaller focal distance spread, the other of using a smaller panel for a given field of view. Of course it comes along with the feature of the number of correct view points for 3D rendered graphics dropping from 1 to 0. Until the displays adapt and report curvature to match the viewer, bent displays remain a complication that simply doesn't improve picture. The one practical advantage is being able to push them further into a corner.
Of course, hearing you go "4 by 3 square"... are you actively trying to be wrong?
Well said sir.
@@jackrussell3084 I missed one other potential advantage, smaller (horizontal) viewing angle spread. This could improve colour consistency near the edges for a close observer, if the display panel has poor viewing angles to begin with.
I love my 34" curved oled monitor
Alienware?
@@rundown132 yup, the F model. Been great so far

I always laugh when reviewers do things in games a normal users doesn't do to be like look see here how bad the black ghosting is when I move the mouse rapidly. I was able to get a GAMEPOWER 27" curved VA panel and was afraid I hate the black ghosting. While it does having it with testing it did not affect my gaming ability. I tested with good ol COD4 and my semi-pro abilities were not affect after I adjusted to the larger 27" from 23". Getting anywhere from 100-180 kills a game depending on how many others are playing. I played several other FPS games and after 5-10 minutes of getting my brain to adjust to the larger screen I did just as good as before on Counter Strike, CODV, BFV, BF2042 and a few others. I actually enjoyed my gaming sessions better with the bigger screen, blacker blacks and more vivid colors than my 23" IPS. I liked it so much I can't go back to an IPS as the colors just look washed out, blacks are gray etc. But hey what to I know after 26 years of being an IT Admin, gaming since I was 9 years old now my 46 year old eyes are not as good but I still kick some ass in most FPS games.
