I couldn't save him, and it would be pointless for both of us to die. So I left him there. I turned my back and let him die, while he screamed in agony. Then the Whirligig discharged, and just like that, Pulya was no more, and I was showered in his innards. There was blood and viscera everywhere - it was surreal. I just froze there for a moment, shocked and morbidly amazed that anything could destroy a person so thoroughly. Anything that wasn't man-made, anyway. There wasn't even a body I could drag to camp to bury - just red paste sprayed all over the dead grass, and all over me. I'm pretty sure I'll never be the same after that. The Zone leaves it's mark on you - both physically and psychologically. Just as I'll never be rid of the scars, I'll never be able to forget breathing in the fine red mist that was once my friend. I started my story as a Loner. I did a few missions with a guy called Vanya. He was inexperienced, 14 days in and he was killed by a bunch of bandits near the bridge at Cordon. That made me join Duty. On my first mission to Army warehouses a fellow Dutyer jumped out of nowhere. Captain Koev was a Hardened Master of the zone. Even on the top 100 stalkers. A month would go by and we would do a lot of missions together. We teamed up with other dutyers to tackle most of them. One fateful november day we were sent to recover a PDA from the Red Forest. at 12 PM 5 of us left the base for the red forest. I, Cpt. Koev , Jr. Sgt. Boiko, Sgt. Vorontsov and Msgt. Khaladze. We found ourselves harassed constantly by monolithians from the right and the mercs from the left. By the time we got to the gates, only 2 of us were left. We had a shitton of monolithians chasing us. We could not run the strech without being gunned down, so we decided to hunker down and defend. Droves of them came and we fought them off till the last drop of blood. The Captain used his machine gun while I used a sniper to cover him, Since my assault rifle was out of ammo. We kept fighting them off and that's when I saw a grenade land near my feet. It blew, and I was forced to take cover to lick my wounds. When I Looked back I saw the Captain, Lay there dead among the bodies. I took his patch and counted the monolith bodies. There were 13 of them. I kept the patch and put it in a stash where I kept the patches of all my fallen comrades. Months passed and I would later take these patches to the great swamps after I left Duty to join Clear sky. To Our fallen comrades, They were the BEST Stalkers.
Two days ago my father died, probably on heart attack. In 2 months he should 50 years old. He really enjoyed playing in STALKER series, especially in Clear Sky and Call of Pripiat. Some kids spend their child hoods in Tameriel or Hyrule. But for a special breed of special boys, a chunk of radioactive wasteland deep in Ukraine, that was their home. Always was, always will be.
After a long time spend in The Zone, you finally come back home But it doesn't feel like home anymore The once entertaining sound of city life now makes you irritated Your job which provides you secure and pleasurable life are now nothing but torture Your 'friends' are nothing but some greedy careerist Your food, the one where you always enjoy, now only enough to sate your hunger Your once comforting bed now feels like a stone table,so cold and hard Every night, you always tried to sleep,to get ready for your routine as one of the mllions of soulless cogs Every night, your mind wandered to one place, somewhere so close yet so far Without you realizing you smiled as you drifted off to sleep Only to wake up again by the sound of barking dogs and familiar staccato of gunfire You sighed from behind your mask, realizing it's all just a cruel nightmare Because, when someone has come to the Zone, they always belongs to the Zone Until at last, they will become Lost to the Zone
Whether Freedom or Duty, Clear Sky or Renegade, Monolith or Bandit, we will all meet the same end. We should cherish the moments we have with each other, before the cold, ruthless Zone takes us.

Today... is a sad day. On Christmas 2022, Volodymyr Ezhov, one of the devs of STALKER Clear Sky, was reported KIA in Ukraine. He died in Bakhmut, and served the Ukrainian Territorial Defense Forces. He fought for what is right, and we should never forget him.

As time went on we parted ways over stupid childish things as many friends do throughout school, but then a year later he was gone and even now nearly half a decade later I still feel responsible for his choice like I should've been there for him. So Dalton I'm sorry I know I should've been there but wherever you are I hope you have this song and this game to remind you that you were a good stalker and the best friend.

I love how the comments here are either sombre yet appreciative and bittersweet while recalling the past. It's almost as if we are all around a slowly-dying campfire with someone playing the guitar.
Mutual suffering brings even the worst of enemies together. That is why Stalker has one of the best fanbases. We are already so broken, what's left to fight about? Duty > Freedom
It is said, "In war we are enemies, but in peace we are brothers." What's tragic is the fact that this statement is wrong. We are brothers even in war.
The Zone, you heard stories about it growing up. A place with no rules, no laws, no parents. In your 20's you left home and went to the zone to rebel against society. Months and years went by for everyone else, but not you. Everyday was the same yet so different, life in the zone was hard. You fought just to see the next day, everyday. But you eventually left. Every Stalker does, they leave the zone either by the zone taking them or them leaving the zone themselves. Its been decades since you left the zone, you haven't told anyone about your time there in fear they would think your still a Scavenger, a Trespasser, an Adventurer, a Loner, a Killer, an Explorer, a Robber. A Stalker. But that was a lifetime ago. But even in your old age, you remember everything. Your friends, your comrades, the mutants, the constant firefights with bandits. You remember the campfires and guitar songs that you even learned to play. Stalkers might leave the Zone, but the Zone will always call them back. So, Stalker. Lets have a drink and smoke for the ones that never left the zone. Those are the real stalkers. I miss you Cicero, you were a good Stalker.
Few years ago i played stalker for the first time. I was 14 and played all sorts of games, wether they be mainstream, indie or very niche titles not everyone gets into. I think that sorta helped with me getting instantly hooked into the zone when i woke up in Sidrovich's bunker that one grey afternoon. I played through all of SoC without stopping and i didnt know why. Then played CS and loved it aswell. Then i finally opened up CoP and loved it before installing the CoC mod putting idk how many hours into it. I then realised that The Zone has accepted me, and i have accepted it. We never truly leave The Zone once we enter for the first time. And you know what? i wouldnt have it any other way.
Tragically, S.T.A.L.K.E.R video game developer Volodymyr Ezhov, who was involved in the creation of Alexander (RTS/RPG from 2004), Cossacks 2 (RTS, 2005), Heroes of Annihilated Empires (RTS/RPG, 2006) and STALKER: Clear Sky (2008) - has been killed in Ukraine during defense from the ongoing Russian invasion. The game studio announced during the beginning of the war that a number of its devs were heading off to the frontlines as they were Ukrainian, and further game development would be put on hold. Loki, from Call of Pripyat, is 3D-modeled with (a younger version of) his face. Rest easy, Stalker.
Even if it's just a game i always feel like the zone is real, imagine you are a stalker new to the zone, slowly understanding the zone, meeting with another group of stalkers, some of them welcome you and some not, or the worst they will start attacking you, then you made good friends in the zone and exploring together and sometimes alone, you fight mutants, bandits, risking yourself because of anomalies just for some artifacts, you made a great time but also you will experience the darkest, some of your friends died, you got robbed by bandits, chased by strange mutant and after a long day you found yourself resting at a campfire playing music with guitar and remembering everything that happened in the zone and wondering if you will be alive tomorrow or not, you may leave the zone but the zone will never leave you
I would never thought I'd be here for how sad this song is but... I had a friend, Viktor was his name, a young man full of hope from Donetsk. We used to play Anomaly a lot, we both knew the Zone like the back of our hand. Today I learned Viktor perished in a rocket barrage. I am here to honor his memory for he was a good S.T.A.L.K.E.R. "I saw Pulya get caught in a Whirligig, and there was nothing I could do. He was screaming for me to pull him out, and God, I wanted to... but I knew that if I tried, I'd just get pulled in, too. So, let's have a drink. On Pulya. And this cruel, cold bitch we call the Zone."

Welcome to the Great Swamps,Friend!

So comrades, raise your bottles for the one who shall never return to the Zone, and for the one who will forever stay young
RIP Viktor, he was a good stalker. Ukraine will pay for this.
He was a good Stalker. RIP
