If your SO’s family treat you like crap, and your SO doesn’t immediately put them in their place, and uses phrases like “That’s just how they are,” “They just need to get to know you,” “Just ignore them,” and the like, or otherwise defends them, and/or you feel you need to somehow impress them beyond a normal scope, you don’t have an in-law problem. You have an SO problem and you need to get out. You will always play second fiddle to these toxic AHs. Also, when the in-laws are constantly trying to set your SO up with someone else, the answer isn’t to stop going to the in-laws dinners. Because that just gives them the chance to push another, approved, partner on your SO in hopes of at least starting an affair to force a divorce or break up. Or in this case, plan to take one of your children. Again, the proper answer would be for the SO to put their foot down, set boundaries and tell them that the minute they insult you or attack you in anyway, you both will leave (or kick them out), no matter the event or circumstances. OP should have left this mess before she married into it.
