Great video! It's surreal to see two things that haven't existed since the 90's/early 2000's (rollerblades and malls) in the modern day, but the mall is empty. This video would have been a whole different thing 20-30 years ago. Still, it got me to dust off my old skates and spend a few hours on the bike path. Just as fun as I remember it.
I remember being here since I was a child, and the place has always been eerily empty like that. The Macy’s closes later than the mall, and it looks like a liminal space.
@@vini_renee So if you guys are wondering what happened to the mall it seems the primary problem is 3 of its 4 anchor stores closed. The 4 anchor stores were Sears, JCPenny, Macy’s, and Lord & Taylor. Anchor stores are exactly what they say, they’re responsible for attracting the majority of the customers to the mall. Ppl go to shop at them specifically then kinda wonder out into the mall because they’re already there. It was kinda just unfortunate that 3 of them were from companies going under and closing retail locations. Macys closed in 2023 and with that the mall closed for good shortly after.

This mall opened in 1978, and thrived until around 2005-2010 when it rather quickly started to decline. They lost Penny's, then Lord and Taylor, then Sears. You can't survive as a small shop in a big place with no anchor store traffic. One anchor doesn't move people from end to end, past the little shops. We skated through yesterday, but got tossed. We had a good strategy, though, that worked because I knew where security was located, and what parts would be busy. So we made it through the entire mall before being thrown out.

Imagine how expensive it is to plan, build and then keep such a huge mall running, how much rent must have cost retailers, and it was still worth it for them, they still made money. Now imagine you own all malls not only in the US but in half of the world, and you don't even have to build all these huge expensive malls but still take a 6 - 45% from selling in your store. That's Amazon, and that's why Bezos can build his p*nis rocket just for fun. Now imagine having all that money, saving a ton by not having to build all these huge malls etc. but still treating your employees like sh*t, paying them badly, and steal the best performing products from the people that sell in your store, and sell them at a loss yourself until the original product creator goes out of business to then raise the price again.
This dead mall looks so much better and more visually interesting than the mall in my hometown that is bustling. I lament my city's lack of aesthetic appeal despite it's relatively large size.
oh.. awesome! I live in a very dense country. Having abandoned spots like that, sounds like heaven :) This empty scary feeling i have felt only once in my life. That's when my beloved city Amsterdam got a lockdown because of covid. Not a chinese lockdown, so we were allowed to go outside, just everything was closed. Because covid was a new virus at the time, everybody was afraid. I am not a doctor, but i have some understanding of viruses, biology in general, find it interesting. So i understood what riskful events are and what are not... ;) So i went outside to skate and the roads were mine!!!! It was amazing. At some point, i got this strong feeling that one thing was missing those few days. Zombies. haha Oh, it's not that abandoned, still awesome!! i am jealous! (after watching your vid till the end) hmm.. sorry man, it is depressing.
I've just found out about your channel today from browsing inline skating from excitement of wanting my inlines I've ordered to arrive!! I haven't skated in 2 years, first reason I kept kicking the brake on my decathlon skates and go flying so I sold them to get freestyle ones I really wish I kept the decathlon pair if I had known I could just take the brake out!! My next pair were freestyle but felt loose at the side of my feet in the boot .. I never wanted to part with them since they looked so nice but now I finally have and just ordered some fila inlines!! Watched 3 videos from you already, I appreciate that you have't added background music yet. I really enjoy hearing the natural skating sounds on the floor. Will share the video to my fb. Amazing video.
Awe well I’m glad you have a new pair coming in and I’m happy you like my videos! Toodles!✌🌸
You say to not skate in malls ourselves but here in the UK trespassing is not a crime as it's extremely hard to govern, malls are also classed as "public" (because anyone can come and go as they please and it's an big open area with parks and such) so if security tells you to leave because your skating just let them call the police because it's not against the law to skate in public so they can't do anything.
Incorrect. If you are caught for trespassing you can and will be arrested, followed by court and possible jail time. It IS in fact against the law to trespass and is very easy to govern. Do not lie again. This info is easily found on google and with a bit of common sense which you seem to lack both of.
Please consider sharing this video because it would really help out with the algorithms a lot! 🙏🏼💕🦑

Yes thats how i came across your page and i just picked up skating and I learned alot just from watching you
This dead mall looks so much better and more visually interesting than the mall in my hometown that is bustling. I lament my city's lack of aesthetic appeal despite it's relatively large size.
I think a mall skate on quads would be a pretty interesting curve ball in this series
haha I actually think thats a really good idea too, thank you!
@@Skating_Squid aye nah thank you for the videos. Keep up the good work!
Nice Vidéo ...Nice Place to skate ...
That couple 💀
Grew up going to this mall like every weekend. Kinda eerie to see it in this state now.
Absolutely amazing

up to touching the machines in the "time out zone" this would be a great horror film opener lol
oh.. awesome! I live in a very dense country. Having abandoned spots like that, sounds like heaven :)
This empty scary feeling i have felt only once in my life. Zombies. haha
Oh, it's not that abandoned, still awesome!! i am jealous!
(after watching your vid till the end)
hmm.. sorry man, it is depressing.
YO! This is crazy! I went there as a kid, but after they removed the big playground, I remember less and less people coming.
Would love to see you skate LAX airport! Harry Reid too. They really should just allow it because airports are huge.
On my exploring series I usually never add music so you don’t have to worry unless it’s a transition to a different scene. I only use a lot of music on the rink review series since I can’t use the music that’s played at the rinks. I hope you like your new skates! 🦑
@@Skating_Squid Thank you so much for responding! 😊 The exploring series will always be my fave but i'll check both series out for sure. Just to mention my skates came today! They seem so heavy to lift when skating😅 and the wheels are 80mm they make skating a little different 🤣😂 I havent went out the house yet in them I am gradually getting my confidence back from these videos.
