one way of solving the "inner vs outer" colony issue is that the distinction could be about relative wealth rather than distance from earth since that makes more sense.
@@MrChickennugget360 The lore reason has to do with how slipspace works. Just because a location is closer in real space doesn't mean thats the case in slipspace. Much like how the earth is covered in mountain ranges and valleys etc. that you must travel around costing you time the same is true for slipspace travel. Thats why you can get an outer colony thats only 20 ly away but an inner colony thats 30. The distinction is the travel time.

Installations positioned in order is much more satisfying… but who knows, maybe the Forunners assigned their designated locations AFTER their creation?
Pretty much. They were engineered to cover all possible angles to make sure all celestial boddies could get hit from every angle for maximum effectiveness
And you have to take into account that a large portion of the galaxy was filled with Flood Keyminds the size of planets so they needed to put them in place and fire them with enought time to not get destroyed

its people "with no lives" like you that give people like me good videos to watch so i can eat (the cannot eat without youtube syndrome) much appreciated sir. also i hope HiddenXperia sees this
Actually there was many reasons they stopped the 30k halos. The 3 main ones are. 1. Old technology they couldn't fire omnidirectional they could only fire inline with the center of the ring which made many gaps in initial firing and would need multiple directions fired to cover entire galaxy. 2. Nearly all of them got destroyed. 3. The transport of them that late in the war was causing galaxy wide communication and transportation issues. As earlier they were transporting them at a cost but acceptable cost.
If, in a few hundred thousand years (being realistic, because FTL is impossible, and being realistic, _if_ we can ever colonise beyond our own star) we colonise the Epsilon Eridani system, _if_ we don't name any habitable exoplanets orbiting a blue ice giant "Reach" i'm gonna turn into funky space dog food dust and come back and haunt humanity for their sins.
Fun fact: Epsilon Eridani is also where, in Star Trek, a battle took place during the siege of Vulcan, where under Admiral Salok, the 12th fleet, fought to hold the system, along side the 1st fleet under admiral Nacheyev holding the neighbouring system of Weytahn to prevent the encirclement of Andoria, a founding member of the Federation. (This isn't alpha canon btw.) That planet can't seem to get a break, no matter which universe, huh?
@fozzylozzy1131 that system *really* doesn't get a break. Same with Aradia, which is ironic because in Greek mythology, it's a utopic place of peace and refuge. In Star Trek, around the same time as the siege of Vulcan, aka early war, the Dominion advance on the southern front was basically a stream roll. This threatens to directly put the Klingon homeland under siege, and cut off the Federation and Klingon forces. Therefore, General K'Chang basically put up a verdun level defence at the system, incurring massive attrition on both side but manages to halt the hitherto unstoppable dominion.
@nsr-ints Actually I was wrong the I misread the Mass Effect wiki, it was the largest system outside of Arcturus but Reach was still quickly sterilised by the reapers
I believe in the first book talked about the density of slipstream affected how long it took to get to some places. Like alpha centari was a very difficult journey to make, but traveling to reach was an easy one. Also, Delta Halo being on the other of the universe is possible because covenant engines were just faster, and they could pick the streams a lot easier than human ships.
This is my favourite video on youtube. Edit: if you did the location of Mass Effect planets and things then this would also be Shepards favourite video on the citadel

1:10 The whole bad parent analogy thing is actually wrong. In Halo Epitaph a Gravemind confirms that the Flood and the Precursors are not two sides of the same coin, as we'd previously thought, but one and the same. We learn that the Mantle is a false concept, created to manipulate sentient life into becoming better quality food. And we learn that the Precursors create life solely to devour it. We don't know why, but it's been assumed that it has something to do with Living Time. We also don't know how long they've been doing this, but it's implied to be a very long time.
While the Gravemind says the Mantle is purposefully flawed and has, so far, always led to destruction, the idea of it being explicitly designed for the purpose of "better quality food" is a MASSIVE misinterpretation, that's just a side benefit. The Gravemind discusses the Mantle more as a manipulative construct designed by the Precursors to test their creations,. BUT, it is still a test. The Primordial outlines the parameters for failure, hubris, corruption and destruction. That implies the opposite would be the way to pass. The only way to pass is to either reject the Mantle and not be custodians of the galaxy, or to establish a sort of galactic egalitarian society. Equality of leadership among ALL species. By accepting the Mantle, you fail. By rejecting the Mantle, you pass. And I wouldn't trust HiddenXperia at all. While I like him, and generally like his content, he has blinders on when it comes to the Flood and Precursors. He, to this day, calls the Flood corrupted Precursors/corrupted Precursor dust. From what I heard Bungie was kinda divided on whether they should be human or if they should be a different race. In the end, 343i went with the different species idea.
@centurymemes1208 the orginal trilogy makes more sense with Humans being Forerunners though. Halo lore as a whole makes more sense. Mankind is reclaiming our long lost technology. The Covenant are killing the very gods they worship. And its like poetry it rhythms, I personally think it worked. Plus anyways Bungie was 100% on board with Humans being Forerunners no strings attached. At least the guys actually making the story
I’m a creative writer working on a book with a similar setting, and as a fan of Halo and space exploration this is just….the best thing I’ve seen all day. You just earned yourself a new subscriber ❤❤ Thank you for this awesome inspiration and knowledge 🧑🚀
I was following along pretty well during the first 13 minutes talking about Forerunner locations around the Galaxy, but then I think I had a mild Stroke when you zoomed into a 100Ly diameter around Sol, and mentioned the SIXTY THOUSAND estimated Stars in that local space. The scale difference is and always will be astounding. My existence may only consist of less than 100 years, but even if Humanity has tens of thousands of years to develop I fully believe we'll be stuck exploring our Galaxy and only our Galaxy for the rest of time.
This videos reminds me of a project I had been undertaking to recreate the stellar map of an old sci-fi TTRPG within Space Engine. I had hit a big snag early on. While most of the stellar map is based off of real stars taken from a (now outdated) star catalogue, a significant portion is entirely fictional. This wouldn't be so bad, given that the positions of these systems are given. The problem is, they're only given in Cartesian coordinates (X,Y,Z) measured in light-years from Sol's perspective, with no other frame of reference besides the illustrated map included with the game. And Space Engine only accepts Right Ascension and Declanation values for positioning systems. I would need a way of translating Cartesian coordinates into RA and D (and vice versa), but honestly the math is just beyond me. Since it does have real-world systems, one could compare their IRL RA and D values with the game's Cartesian coordinates to presumably extrapolate a function to get one from the other. But this would have to take into account the catalogue's outdated positioning information used for the game (the differences with modern catalogue measurements are slight, but notable), as well as extrapolating a frame of reference for the X and Y values (+Z is definitely above galactic plane, I determined that much). I _believe_ -Y is roughly towards galactic center, and +X is towards the direction of galactic spin, but these are a result of me literally eye-balling it by visually comparing the game's map with Space Engine's. Even if I verified these frames of reference, I still wouldn't know where to begin with translating values. I DO have an old spreadsheet made by someone for their own unrelated project that does a nearly identical task, but it has different frames of references for all three coordinate values and I don't know what the maths are that they used to make their functions anyways. I've been considering asking around on old math nerds and astronomer forums for anyone who could assist me, but I get the feeling I wouldn't have much luck. Besides, I'm unable to work on the project right now do to life circumstances anyways. But this is probably the closest place I've come across that might have someone who would know how to solve my dilemma, so I'm shooting my shot here. If you're reading this and might be able to help or know where I could go for help, let me know!
I was enjoying this video as a one off as something interesting to watch while eating. that throwaway line about the bobiverse sealed and you got a new sub. If you enjoy not having a life anymore perhaps a video on the bobiverse while not popular would be pretty cool

An amazing video story and screenwise well done
Ok you got me, I listened to most of the books through audible while working.. all of them.
You have no idea how much your visualisations like this help with my own worldbuilding, Just from this video i have 2 possible locations for my own project.
Well done sir. well done, never a waist I loved every minute of this and look forward to more. That 12 hour thing sounded ok by me :)
Wow this is incredible. I’d love to see one solely based on the locations in the Star Trek universe.
Jokes aside, dude. Thank you very much for doing this. Your effort is immensely appreciated.
Great video!!! Thank you just subscribed
This was awesome, you've earnt a sub ❤
Loftus would be proud of this effort :) Great work!
Fantastic work!
In the original Bungie lore the big reveal was going to be that the Forerunners were Humans. It should have stayed that way.
Eh
And yeah this video is fantastic
From what I heard Bungie was kinda divided on whether they should be human or if they should be a different race. In the end, 343i went with the different species idea.
more interesting lore with forerunners not being humans imo
nah forerunners being humans is generic and boring af. im glad it wasn’t and even bungie themselves were divided. cope all you want if you deny tho
BANGER video. I love this stuff
I’m a creative writer working on a book with a similar setting, and as a fan of Halo and space exploration this is just….the best thing I’ve seen all day. You just earned yourself a new subscriber ❤❤ Thank you for this awesome inspiration and knowledge 🧑🚀
John Halo :D
Also congrats on 1,000 likes!
This is gold. Thanks for sharing this
YES FINALLY. thank you for making this video because many people wished for it
Helluva a video man. 10/10
If you're reading this and might be able to help or know where I could go for help, let me know!
hey this is a violation of the Cole Protocol
I was enjoying this video as a one off as something interesting to watch while eating. that throwaway line about the bobiverse sealed and you got a new sub. If you enjoy not having a life anymore perhaps a video on the bobiverse while not popular would be pretty cool
Great video, love these
Great video. If you're looking for ideas, I'd love to see a video on the locations in The Expanse.
I appreciate the Mass Effect galaxy map music
Couldn't agree with you more about a good Halo story.
Hasn't been one in decades.
I also really really appreciate a fellow space nerd talking. You use terms like au and LaGrange points like it's common knowledge.
Which, as a fellow space nerd and futurist, I appreciate and understand.
This is fucking awesome, people like you keep my love for halo alive 💓
I am currently writing drafts for my Halo fanfiction and your star map is EXTREMELY important for the worldbuilding process of my series. Therefore, I hope that I can use your map to write my fanfiction series. Also, I am looking forward to seeing more of your HALO related content, my friend.
Bro thus video was AWESOME. 😂 I loved it. And yes, I've roasted you for your pronunciation of some ship names and whatnot that were clearly off. 😂 See its all love.
27:54 made me laugh so hard I spit my drink out and unironically made the same noise as I was ejecting water from my nose and mouth lmao
Absolutely fucking phenomal. Laughed the whole way through loved this man
0:26 yo hold up🤨
A Star Wars Mapped in 3D would be sick
