to have stan lee as a contributor for this documentary, knowing he is from a rival universe, only means the batman really is an icon in the comic industry. not bad for a superhero who has no super powers
Great documentary! Bob Kane sold all the rights to Batman to DC Comics in exchange for having his name as the sole creator of Batman. As we all know now, Bill Finger had a huge role in the original stories and characters with artists like Jerry Robinson who helped define the Batman we know today.
"He's the hero that Gotham deserves, but not the one it needs right now. So we'll hunt him. Because he can take it. Because he's not our hero. He's a silent guardian, a watchful protector...a DARK KNIGHT." - Commissioner James Gordon
Cool documentary I was a big Batman fan as a kid and even today I still like him. Batman is just so s unique and interesting he has no superpowers he just has that style and way he stand out and away from the others and that's what might attract lots of people old and young including myself
Enjoyed watching this. Right now, I am sitting less than one hundred yards from the church where Batman was once an altar boy: St. Malachy's in Forest Grove, outside Pittsburgh, where Michael Keaton attended mass and school for eight years. :-)
there is only one hero that i love to the core and with whom i am obsessed so much, Batman. he is so dark and complex character with tragic but so emotional and powerful origins that made a boy into a man who seeks vengeance to restore purpose to his life. person that sacrifices everything for the welfare of his city by putting his life on the line every day. that is his curse and why i love him so much isnt his suit, gadgets, the wealth or women, its his personality which is cold, strict, dark, brooding and angry man who only wants to see his parents one more time. my favorite moments are when batman is on the top of the building or on a gargoyle watching over gotham with his cape floating, that is so epic. my favorite batman was christian bale who i miss in this role so much but i hope ben affleck will do him justice he deserves. batman is not just a fictional character, he is part of my every day life. he inspires me, gives me hope in better tomorrow, that dreams can come true. he is the proof that one man can make a difference and change the world, that is what batman represents to me.
I mostly love batman because he is one of the few superheroes that don't have and super powers and is very close to an average bystander. I also like his backstory because he gives a bit of mystery to his character when his parents were killed by crime and he vowed basically to avenge them.
JOKER: Oh, Bats! You know I can't live without you, so why shouldn't I narrate your history? It's only fitting since I'll be the one to end it! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!
the JKA, fyi back in the day comics had teams that would brain storm the stores and art work for the up coming issues. Bill finger was just one of many on Batman.
That's not how it worked if you have actually researched the history of Batman. Bill Finger was a ghost writer for Bob Kane, who mostly had other people draw what he claimed was is art, such as Jerry Robinson. But the initial idea of who Batman was came from Bill Finger's ghost writing. He was the person who came up with the ideas that made Batman work. Later stories were told by different people. But this was the original team for much of the first Batman comics.
Curtis Wood I too hold him in higher regard so did most of those in DC and even in the end kane himself said was 50% to 70 % of. the creative force behind batman which is why he is now credited as co creator. as far as ghost writers thier job was to write out the ideas of the crestor. this was due to the high demand but finger helped create the villjans and looks and even the origin story all which are still used in the movies today knowing now what we know of Bob kane has maninly the name and of course the original artist but in all since he was with Bill finger the creator just as Siegel and shuster co created Superman
Bob Kane was virtually the only first-generation comic creator who emerged unscathed with the passage of years. Practically everyone else had to undergo personal or business bankruptcies, got ripped off by publishers, etc.
This video was right about Batman the Animated Series. My kids were young in the 90's and we watched the show together. It kept my interest too. And when Batman Mask of the Phantasm my wife was even blown away at how well it was done. What I would like to see is a Batman movie where the character scarface is introduced.
Mark Hamill is the narrator of this documentary I'm sure of it but iffy if possible if it wasn't it sure sounds a lot like him. I remember him being the voice of Jack Napier/Joker in the animated series from the early-late 1990s. The history of batman is just as large as Superman history itself peace, love, encouragement, respect, and Gods grace and blessings to you all UA-camrs.
He is the single most Influential Super-Hero on the planet. He is the Best/Greatest/Awesome character on all of planet EARTH !!!! And a bit close 2nd is Superman & the third is Spiderman. Others are well debatable.
You know, every time sone one makes a "Chuck Noris" joke they're really talking about Batman. They call him "Chuck Noris" because just saying Batman's name can and has been known to cause people to die from a sheer over-load of awsomeness
At 33:39 I have to disagree with Timm. Even though BTAS is one of the best representations of the Batman-- the BTAS were NOT "doing their own thing" and DID evoke the Burton movies (more than they would like to admit). That show was heavily influenced by the Batman books of the 1970's, but the show did borrow from the Burton movies-- just look at the Penguin's design, the Batmobile, the 1930's/40's atmosphere/wardrobes of the characters, and the opening theme song, its all from the Burton films. Timm and his people may have the Batman mythology down correctly, but unfortunately they went out of their way to try to ruin Superman though. Timm and his people, purposely made the Batman the center of the DCAU. They even went as far as having Superman's love-interests (Lois Lane, Wonder Woman), and gave them to the Batman. They also had Superman dumbed down, and even taking orders from the Batman. And for that they shouldnt be allowed anywhere near, anything related to the Superman mythology, and should only focus on arcs focusing exclusively on the Batman's mythology-- because their bias tends to show.
***** My comment above are proven facts, all one needs to do is watch the Burton movies, and then watch Timm's BTAS, STAS, JLU and then compare it the original source material. Your comment is a matter of opinion... But youre free to elaborate further though, if you feel that what you said is fact. If you see Superman as boring, then blame most contemporary writers of Superman stories for it. How exactly is Superman a stereotype?
***** I respect your opinion, even though I disagree with your reason to why you see him as a stereotype. But given Superman's origin, he was the first superhero to have that origin (he was also the first superhero period). Superman was also alot more rough in his golden age stories (he didnt think twice if he had to smack man or woman on the mouth), than many people know him to be today. The aliens and stories that youre referring to is from the Silver Age (everyone was obsessed with UFO stuff in the 50's), even the Batman had UFO stories during that time-- due to comics being forbidden from writing about street crime. But it seems that the Batman is your favorite character, and that you dont like Superman for his personality traits. I understand, but Im the opposite though. I like Superman because of the reasons that you stated. Superman is supposed to represents the light, where as the Batman is a creature of the night and represents the dark. Im old school so I prefer Batman & Robin together, as opposed to the Batman by himself. The Batman is a very interesting character, but I find him to be boring with the way that he has been portrayed since Timm's bias in his cartoons (Timm had Batman always being shown as having all the answers no matter the problem, and Superman was portrayed like some useless overpowered alien). Since then people think the Batman can solve everything, without any kind struggle. Its obvious that I like Superman over the Batman, but Richard Grayson is my all time favorite character, with Superman being second only to him. I understand that without the Batman, there would be no Grayson-- but without Superman or the Shadow there would be no Batman.
***** I hate how they are trying to turn Superman dark now, I hated "Snyderman" (Man of Steel). Dark and gritty works for the Batman because he is a dark character, but to make Superman that way is just stupid in my opinion (thats like turning Wolverine into a light-hearted character)... Snyderman was a prick in that movie... That new movie will be boring, because now there will be two "dark and gritty" characters instead of polar-opposites. And since I dont like Snyderman, Ill side with Batfleck in that movie.
+Dick Grayson When did they give Lois Lane to Batman? Did I miss something? The only time something like this was brought up was in the first apppearance of Batman on the Superman series, when Lois was smitten by Bruce Wayne, like every woman ever since he's supposed to be a playboy. And if I remember correctly Superman and Wonder Woman weren't an item in the comics back then and only really become one with the New 52.
It makes me happy that Bill Finger was mentioned in this documentary, given that only in just the last few years he was finally officially recognised as the actual driving force behind Batman. Still, I can’t help but feel how weird it is hearing everyone speak of Bob Kane like he was the messiah when we know now just how deceitful he was and the great lengths he went to deny Bill Finger’s involvement. Kane’s wife Elizabeth Sanders claims Kane truly was ‘Bruce Wayne’... but he comes across more as the corrupted Thomas Wayne we see in Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker. It should be ‘Batman created by Bill Finger WITH Bob Kane’ and not the other way around.
Narrator: "And then the Joker was introduced into Batman the Animated Series, and he was like awesome. Seriously. Best Joker ever. At least if you're going by the voice."
+Iz Happy Well for me there was always a bit of darkness to Batman as a character especially when his parents were murdered in front of him. For me that origin at 0:15 when I first saw it impacted me far more than the death of Peter Parker's Uncle Ben decades later. Not that they don't sometimes IMHO lay the darkness a bit thick at times these days and often seem to go out of their way to make it about as subtile as an oncoming train.
From reading lots of interviews with many comic artists and writers for that era... Isn't Bill Finger the one who really did all the work, creating Batman?
The narrator IS Mark Hamill, or the best voice of The Joker available...they couldnt have chosen better. Thats like getting Keith David to Narrate Spawn...which he sort of DID, when doing the same thing in a DC History Bio I watched earlier. When Keith was talking about Spawn in THAT video, it was almost horrible for him NOT to mention that he was the voice in the Cartoon.
..is bob kane's wife is alive? i wonder what her thoughts are that Mr Bill Finger has finally been given his just dues as The Batman's CO-creator, that mostly what bob kane said through the years, and in this video still back then, is what he always said that he was the full creator of The Batman. At least Bill is praised as one of the great writers here. The producers of this video probably had no idea of Bill's major part and contribution to the legend.
Animal spirits are intriguing, and we've seen the power of the wolf (Wolverine - Marvel Comics) and the agility of the spider (Spider-Man - Marvel Comics), but Batman (DC Comics) captures human curiosity about stealth. Bats are nocturnal and exhibit high powers of focused navigation. The rich history of Batman (TV shows, comic books, big-budget movies, toys, etc.) really reflects America's fascination with nature mementos.
but still no mater how awsome batman will be he is always 2nd for me I just find spiderman just more amusing to me XD dont juge plz my love for batman incresed with his arkaham games becouse those made him even more badass
@xNtro G, search the documentary "Stan Lee's super humans" . They're real, but they're not heroes. The ones that are heroes are ordinary humans like Batman.
Actually, nearly every major city has a sub culture of actual real superheroes that dress up and actually prowl the streets looking for wrongdoers. It's not really recommended, but they do it anyway. Oddly enough, to date, none of them have been hurt or killed.
Michael E. Uslan said Bob Kane was really just a teenager when he created The Batman? Bob Kane was born in 1915, Batman was created in 1939. Wouldn’t that have made him 23 or 24? Hopefully Uslan has seen Batman and Bill and now questions Bob’s claim that he made his Da Vinci inspired bat drawings when he was a teen. The whole situation is so sad. Siegel always gave Shuster equal credit despite Siegel coming up with the original concept of Superman. Very happy for Bill Finger’s family that Bill now gets the credit he surely deserves. The next step is to change Batman created by BK ‘with’ BF to Batman created by BK ‘and’ BF.
Bill Finger is the real creator of Batman. BILL FINGER. He’s OFFICIALLY FINALLY being credited for this. They started with the Batman vs Superman movie and with the Gotham series. Almost all those characters were created by Bill! What Batman looks like is BILL FINGER’s idea. Bob Kane took all the credit.
hey correlation does not equal causation. maybe there were other factors that lead to increase juvenile delinquencies post-war and comic books don't cause asthma unless people are allergic to paper
I just can't help but think that the cape would be more of a liability in combat. I know the artists gave him a cape to look cool, and he does, but still. Grab that thing, whip it around his head, then unload on him. Batman can detach his cape quickly, but it would cost him precious seconds, and in combat, seconds can mean life and death. What's you're opinion?
in many situations the cap can be used as a weapon. it is also a valuable resource tht is very accessable. i think the cap is a great accessory for Batman. besides, who really can even reach the thing when fighting Batman?
you make a good point, i guess it depends on the usage of the cape, which is only limited by imagination, it can be used to provide camouflage in poorly lit areas, cloak the front of the body while standing before multiple opponents (deception) or even intimidation, i read somewhere that Bob Kane originally wanted batman to have wings (like the Batman beyond suit) but Bill Finger strongly suggested a cape
The cape is also bullet proof along with letting him glide. It can also allow him to shield others if needed. When you're trained as much as batman the cape would simply be an extension of his body.
to have stan lee as a contributor for this documentary, knowing he is from a rival universe, only means the batman really is an icon in the comic industry. not bad for a superhero who has no super powers
yotep! What makes him what he is today
His superpower is he's rich! Elon take note!
Kane thought up the character, but Finger made it work. Bill Finger's role in creating Batman has been forgotten.
Nowadays we know about Bill Fingers work in batman. This documentary is kinda old back when Bill Fingers involvement wasn't well known.

Kane: “I never said thank you.”

Actually, nearly every major city has a sub culture of actual real superheroes that dress up and actually prowl the streets looking for wrongdoers. It's not really recommended, but they do it anyway. Oddly enough, to date, none of them have been hurt or killed.
Batman beyond
Is it just me, or is that Mark Hamill narrating?i could swear it is...
yes
+Samuraisahsah well a the very end, it says it was narrated by him.

One American native art form he failed to mention: skateboarding.
What is this song
They should do one where Batman is fighting Pennywise the Dancing Clown
Hell yeah!
narrated by mark hamil ironic
he became the arkham knight and held a massive grudge against batman.
even stan lee the creator of dc comics arch nemesis marvel complemented batman 0_0
Arch nemesis? Just because they're competing companies doesn't mean anything. Hell, Bob Kane and Stan Lee were best friends.
One name Bob Kane. Unsung hero.
Too bad Bob Kane died before Spider-man came out, he and Stan Lee would be competing to see who's brand is better
Batman would win
Is Mark Hamill narrating this?
leftcoaster67 Yep it's Luke Skywalker talking about the Dark Knight.
+Tiffany Days It's The Joker talking about The Dark Knight.
Yes, it's Cock Knocker!!
1:05 well, before 2002 the bat logo was a simbol of special force of GRU Russia ;) But anyway, Batman is awesome!
Bacardi Rum is the logo of the Batman.

Batman was just a way for a lot of psychos to prevent from snapping
I've always wanted to meet Conroy, Timm or Dini and say, hi I'm Vengeance and the night.
i feel like Nolan's movies also had some impact on the character's history
batman rules
Bill Finger is the real creator of Batman. BILL FINGER. He’s OFFICIALLY FINALLY being credited for this. They started with the Batman vs Superman movie and with the Gotham series. Almost all those characters were created by Bill! What Batman looks like is BILL FINGER’s idea. Bob Kane took all the credit.
Bob Kane and Bill Finger
7:24 the name of the comic ha
Pls,can someone tell me the name of the soundtrack in the begining?
hey correlation does not equal causation. maybe there were other factors that lead to increase juvenile delinquencies post-war and comic books don't cause asthma unless people are allergic to paper
ok they mentioned him but not as a creator or co-creator they just talk about him briefly as one of the writers who worked on Batman
Actually villains have tried this before if you watch the animated series he still will kick your ass lol
I feel real sorry of bill finger who is the one who came up with the physical attributes of batman
