The spider hole was a "Brown trapdoor" spider, which are generally black as the ace of spades...so not sure who named them. You can see in the link below, we had quite a few (130 holes) in our residential back yard. The spoon at the end was possibly what the Chinese used as part of their scales to weigh the gold dust/flakes. ua-cam.com/video/NTeW9h7pQi8/v-deo.html

Those spiders had a creep-out factor of 90. I experienced that same cobweb in the face thing, from an orb spider, when I was a kid. I swear you could sew tents with their webbing it was so tough. I nearly screamed the house down and almost clawed my face off trying to get that stuff off. The spider meanwhile quickly retreated to its seat on a tall grass head and looked properly provoked. No doubt it was disgusted at having its web broken by some prat of a kid, who couldn't watch where she was running through the tall grass.
Always nice to catch the fun on these Aussie video's, but could sure do without the spiders. ...shiver... Have a good one Beau!

I really enjoy watching your channel, it actually motivates me to get out and detect for myself...what I'de like to say is, if you want them gold nuggies youve got to slow waaaay down....remember "low and slow".....and you probably should try out the "super sniper" coil that garrett puts out, it works great with my AT Gold machine on the small stuff!

I'm sure it's Garden spider and they are quite large but they are not poisonous or agressive tp people. We have them here in Massachusetts and will scare people because they're so large. Yellow with Black marking on their back. Love all your videos and I learn so much from them!! Thank you!

The big web builders are orb spiders. Not dangerous but it certainly gives you the horrors to walk into a web.

We call those spiders in the ground Trap Door spider. Mainly hunt at night. Those barstards will make you crook. If you wanted to see her you should have poured water down the hole. But bugger that, she will have big teeth and jumpy legs. Once again Chingg great video mate and Thanks for making me miss home even more. Yeah.... thanks.....

RULE #1 of Aussie bush detecting...ALWAYS wave your pick around in front of your face to swipe away deadly spider webs LOL
And that BIG spider...not really big was a St Andrew Cross I reckon. The ground dwelling Huntsman is about 2-3 times that size...and will take a leg off if startled....;)

Yep . . chasing the dragon , seriously though the Chinese miners went through some serious privations & opium from the old country would'v & did softened the blow . . Chinese opium dens were a 'quiet' common occurrence in Oz China towns across early Australia , the dens & importation of opium from China for Chinese consumption was quietly tolerated as the Chinese did't push it into the western society around them

Your vids have given me itchy feet. I was detecting up in the palmer river last year and ran into those spiders lol. I was using GPZ7000 and did well on the mullock heaps down deep (Yes I fill my holes lol Seen alot of open holes also). The chinese must of piled their rocks on top of virgin ground. Also where the erosion took out banks exposing new bedrock. The SD2300 do really well up those narrow creeks. I haven't tried the Garrett detector yet.

G'day Beau, your real lucky you didnt come across a Tiger Striped Red Bellied Drop Bear.
They killed a few Chinese miners back in the mid 1800's. The local Aborigines used to do massive scrub burnoffs to kill them whenever their numbers got into plague proportions. Thats why theres no longer any native forrests around Ayers Rock, it was all burnt away hundreds of years ago.
