Well there is that , but I suspect it is more the fact that , foldables are still very niche , and the folds have compromises, and they are still hugely expensive , the flips are taking the lions share of sales due their one huge advantage in that they when folded have a tiny form factor and they are substantially cheaper.

This. Go ahead and look up the long term wear of the display and hinges on those fold/flip phones, its not good. Samsung customers may be willing to deal with that but Apple customers? hell no.
I remember Tim Cook a few years ago stating that Apples focus is on augmented reality and not foldables.
A foldable screen is pointless when they have the Vision Pro UI lets you make as big of a screen as you want.

I'm way fine with no foldable. Until I can't tell there is a crease in my screen from it being folded, I'm not really interested and Apple probably isn't either.
Just like the notch. Ppl talked crap about it and such. Now they say they barely notice the notch. Same goes for the crease. Smh.

I think Apple is missing out, especially with the clamshell foldables. A clamshell foldable iPhone would do well among iPhone mini and iPhone Plus users.
No it would be a useless device, only good for tech nerds and no usability besides showing of. Does not solve any real problem

They're not missing out, at the end of the day it's about to bottom line, theyre still making insane profits of regular phones because Foldables really do not have any real advantages over slab phones apart from just being a different design

I like the surface Duo because it is not crazy expensive. I use two monitors side by side with my PC and so a 2 mm wide line between two screens is not a problem to me. One reason that I would never buy a bendable screen is that it would crack within 6 months.

The main reason Apple won't bother is because there's no money in it and there's never likely to be any money in it because it is a niche product that will begin to reach peak coverage and fail to break the volume needed to be sustainable. Add in the complexities and likely reliability in durability issues and Apple will gladly leave this to Samsung and others to fight over what will be a tiny pot of nothingness.
Apple said the same thing about the large screen phones people mocked samsung for the first note phone and look now almost every phone has a large display. Also if you have never tried a foldable phone you are missing out. I went from a 14 pro max to a z fold 5 and will never go back to apple or any phone without a foldable display.
@@justintardif9527 Well the overall phone market eventually moved to larger screens so yes Apple eventually moved to larger screens. In the same time that larger screens caught on, unfortunately foldables have not, it's five generations in and still has a dismal share of the market compared to the larger screen segment when it took off.
And yes I'm using a OnePlus Open alongside my 15 Pro Max, I will definitely always prefer a candy bar phone over foldable. In fact I believe a lot of foldable users return their foldables after giving it a try in return for a traditional candy bar phone.
In regards to the future, I believe Apple has their sights on satellite communication, my guess it'll take over as the new big thing, most companies will probably end their foldables to concentrate on satellite communication capabilities since they already took a step back with Qualcomm dropping Iridium on claims as it's too expensive.
Great points, I agree. Like I told the other commenter, I think Apple is going full Satcom (voice, text and data) that would probably be the biggest innovation in iPhones history, since well... The iPhone lol

@@alphagodvoneven if you forget about it being unprofitable, Apple is focusing on AI, and VR, as the future. Time will tell if they are correct or not, but by then, foldable tech will be much more advanced and Apple can jump on that bandwagon if they are wrong with their upcoming VR/AR, and if they can see profits.

A good foldable is only an iPhone that turns into an iPad. Yes, I’m talking about 2 or 3 folds that fold open into 1 large screen. And that won’t happen anytime soon because in order for an iPhone to have 3 folds and still be thin enough to fit comfortably in your pocket requires some magic tech.

I was an apple obsessive geek for years, but I've switched to the z fold 5 and honestly, it's a game changer. I was a bit meh on foldables until I got one, and now it just makes sense. I'm a programmer and it makes my work so much easier.
the foldable would make a lot of sense in the pro line. I too am tempted by a pixel fold and since this year is the year when I'm going to upgrade from my 12 pro max, I'm quite curious how it stacks up.
@@ndc5544p I'm a big fan of what Google are doing with the pixel phones, however having tried both the pixel fold and z fold 5 (thank god for O2 refresh and being able to change phones every 90 days), I would say Samsung have nailed the foldable better than Google. One ui has been made to work brilliantly with the z fold 5, and the huge bezels on the pixel fold are horrible. My only complaint with the z fold 5 is when folded, the outer display is great, but just a tad too narrow to make it enjoyable for typing.

But then she past away after cervical cancer stage 4. We always celebrated Christmas together. We thought it was the most wonderful time of the year! Truly! Same went from an iPhone 12 pro max to a z fold 5 and am never going back! Also seems like people are going out of their way to hate on foldables in the apple community... like I'd love to see an apple foldable and see how ios would do multitasking with this tech.
If they hit a sales slump, they will. I don't see that happening anytime soon. Found out, the screen will wear out at the fold and it will start blacking out. I'll stick with the regular setup.
