The short film follows an elderly Ezio, living a peaceful life in the Tuscan countryside with his wife Sofia and his children Flavia and Marcello and writing his memoirs.
One day a stranger appears, a Chinese female Assassin called Shao Jun, who came to Ezio in order to seek knowledge of his life as an Assassin. Although Ezio prefers that Jun not stay, due to his desire to leave his days as an Assassin behind, Sofia allows her to stay for the night.
The next day, Ezio catches Jun reading his memoirs and bids her to leave, but relents after she asks him about what it means to be an Assassin.

Embers is an animated short film created by UbiWorkshop. The film is included as a bonus in Signature and Collector's editions of Assassin's Creed: Revelations and in The Ezio Collection. UbiWorkShop released a teaser trailer on July 21, 2011, which was featured at Comic-Con 2011.

According to the developers, the young man on the bench was a manifestation of Ezio when he was young. It was meant to show how far Ezio had come. From a promiscuous teenager to a master assassin. It was a beautiful moment of reflection before Ezio passed away. Goodbye Ezio

My interpretation of the man on the bench:
I don't think anyone can argue that he isn't a Templar or a Templar-in-training. He has the symbol on his vambrace, painted in red. Not only that, but I think Ezio sees the symbol before he sits down next to him. It is, after all, right in his line of view. That's probably why Ezio's face shows concern the moment he takes a seat.
Now, if we look at the man, we see he's almost a mirror image of Ezio, with obvious similarities. They both have a scar on their mouth, but it's on opposite sides. They both have the same eye colour. They both have the same indented cheeks. They're even the exact same height. This means that the man, similar to Ezio in his youth, is, in a sense, Templar Ezio. What Ezio could have become at one point. In essence, he represents the never-ending conflict between the Assassins and Templars, as well as Ezio's inner turmoil, because to him there are only Assassin's and Templars. He has no chance to live an ordinary life, nor does anyone who gets involved with the centuries old war. It's almost heartbreaking, really, because despite everything Ezio's done, the Templars are still a force to be reckoned with, and they never stopped hunting him.
Now listen to the conversation. The mysterious man says he hates Firenze, and that he'd rather be in Rome, where the women are like "grapes in a fine wine". Ezio owns a grape farm, but as he tells Shao Jun, the grapes aren't ripe yet. This leads me to believe that the man knows where Ezio lives, but he's also saying, in a round about way, that he has no interest in his wife and daughter. They're not "ripe", they're not his targets.
Ezio doesn't quite understand, but recognises that the man is a Templar. He says, "I don't think Firenze is your problem." This is definitely where his heart attack hits, but if you look closely, you can see he leans towards his blade, as if to say, "I'M your problem." Whether he's reaching for it or simply keeling over is certainly open to interpretation, but it makes the next part more sensible.
The man stops Ezio and says, "Courage, old man." With this small gesture, he indicates that they don't have to fight. To me, this scene really stings, because it shows that Ezio has been fighting for so long it's become his default. He seems shocked when the man smiles and nods to him. I think he knew Ezio was sick. I think he'd been observing him and waiting for the right moment to strike, but he didn't want to do it callously. After all, Templars and Assassins ultimately want the same thing: peace. Not all of them are wicked and soulless.
Just before the man leaves, you can hear a metallic sound as he puts his hand on Ezio's shoulder. I replayed it a few times with the volume maxed, and it kind of sounds like a puncture. He tells Ezio to rest, almost like "requiescant in pace", and walks away. I think he might have injected Ezio with a fast-acting poison, which explains why Ezio's pain suddenly vanished. Heart attacks are extremely painful and don't normally kill someone that quickly, but right after the man leaves, Ezio smiles to his family and slips away on the bench. In his final speech, addressed to his wife, he doesn't reveal anything about the Assassins, so we can rest assured they'll be safe. All his life and all throughout the episode that's what he feared, that his past would come back to haunt him.
But in this final moment, we see that the Templars will leave his family in peace.
(Not my comment but I think it deserves to be read on the page of its source as it's brilliant.)
Tbf i kinda prefer the idea that he's not really there, or at least significant. That's he's the embodiment of Ezio's younger self's philosophy
I kind of like the idea that ezio imagined him. Still concerned that the templars will get his family, but deep inside he knows they'll be fine
Brilliant. I just wished they leaved the Orelovs alone as well. Nikolai didn't deserve to have his sacrifice rendered moot by his great grand-son Daniel
getting turned into a Templar pawn.
Where is the Templar Symbol on the vambrace? I've been replaying his scenes and I can't see it. Can you tell me where it is specifically?

No one was there. I believe it was a hallucination right before death. A manifestation of Ezio's fears which turn out to be unfounded. He was left alone to die peacefully of natural causes. The message he gives is to an imaginary Templar youth that reminds him of himself. He says 'I don't think Firenze is your problem'; what he meant is your attitude towards the city and life is what's making you unhappy. The real change has to come from within.
Just my two cents
I thought the same. Could be. Others say he is indeed a templat but honestly why they felt the sudden need to end him in the first place? He's just a tired old man. Harmless.
Templars have a code and despite him being an enemy of the templars who had previously killed hundreds of them, it doesn't really justify a sudden attempt to his life, considering that templars in Italy couldn't have been so many, maybe just some spared groups we don't know for sure. Still, open to interpretation
@@alexios9848 I think it, funnily enough, has nothing to do with a "need" to eliminate Ezio, threat or not. It's about the message. Ezio is one of the most prolific Assassin's ever and, to the Templars, comparable to that of a war criminal. When he is suddenly discovered, it's an oppotunity that can't be missed. To be able to say that, in the end and after so long, the Templar Order was still able to overcome and kill Ezio Auditore sends the message that there is no escape for Assassins.
That's just my opinion, at least.
He could easily be real. I see it like this. Ezio gets old, he leaves the Assassin's, the Templars know this and just let him be. It's better to just let him live out his days than to continue to have Ezio Auditore as a continued enemy. However, because of Jun, he gets involved in Assassin and Templar affairs at the end. A decision is made, he can't be allowed to keep influencing the next generation, but since he's old and dying they do it in a simple way. A contact poison. The young man simply walks up to him, does what needs to be done and tells Ezio to have courage. Ezio's knowing eyes, the realization and acceptance as the young man simply smiles and nods to confirm that Ezio is already dead. Much in the way Ezio would comfort his kills before their passing. "Get some rest" (in peace). Then the young man walks away. Ezio knows his time is almost up, he takes one last look at his wife and daughter with a knowing smile on his face and exhales for the last time.

That is what awaits all of us at some point. We can only hope to also feel contentment at the end. But it is hard to know that you’re leaving your children and other loved ones behind. To not be able to celebrate with them when they bloom, not being able to comfort them when they are down. And there sure are obstacles yet to come. Knowledge of this is the hardest part, not death itself.
I can't help but feel like Logan took some inspiration from this. The idea, the way it was structured, while different in many ways, similar in some ways. Retired assassin who spent most of his life fighting and killing, now retreated somewhere hidden from society to live out the rest of his life, but this peace is interrupted with the appearance of a young girl who would soon after carry on his legacy, and he must once again fight and kill, despite his tired old body not being up for it anymore.

So many hidden messages are shown in this movie which has been highlighted throughout Ezio's life. The guy at the end was a resemblance to Ezio himself in the past, he can supposedly be a Templar sent to kill Ezio but noticing he is on his last breath he left him in peace to die with his loved ones, it can be understood by Ezio's reaction that shows a hint of realization that then a simple nod to agree to Ezio's thoughts. Also, Ezio's death perfectly creates a contrast between his life life and end. His entire life he spend in shadows after becoming an assassin but died in the bright sun facing the light.

The legendary Ezio Auditore da Firenze. Cradle to grave, we know him, grew up with him, lived with him, struggled with him, and were there with him when he died. He lived a troubled life, having lost much of his family. Hate, hate can keep a man warm, and it kept him moving forward. He was not without his moments either, for while most grey clouds can have a silver lining, one might say Ezio's flame burned gold. He enjoyed many good years after retiring from the order, able to raise two children, and spend his time with Sofia, without much concern or worry. For all the darkness that followed him, it made the light that remained, that much brighter. Now, we must say our farewells, and be thankful that he was able to live such a charmed life, even with what troubles he had. He became an agent of justice, working in the darkness that he might serve the light. Blessed be that he had a family, and those who were there with him when it all happened, unlike the many broken souls he placed face down into the dirt.

Man said "no" to all knowledge in the world just to be with one girl he loves. At the end it pays out, he passes away peacefully, his family is safe, he has a new successor...
What is interesting to me is that Altair took the opportunity to learn the knowledge that Apple of Eden offered, and it kinda ruined his life, with all the loss of friends, wife, even the sons in some way. But he still passed away peacefully just like Ezio.
I see it as that some people who have been offered the same thing will have same ending, but they can choose with who to spend that time: with your loved ones or for a greater good.
I grew up with these games, and they will always have special place in my hearth ❤️
Ezio: my first impulse was to aim for the head.
Me: take notes thor
Thor is still not killing Kratos.
lmao good one
His father Odin would go for the head😂😂
But, Ezio did not do it also..
Good one.
16:12 that laugh tho, he’s like yup still got it
Yup am still in!
Seeing how good the writing was in the good ole days breaks my heart🥲 I miss actual assassins creed, I miss the creed and the hidden blade and the robes, the fun parkour, the overarching story that progresses with each game until 3, but most of all I miss Ezio😭😭😭
Same 😔🥹
It’s sad to say that we’ll never get another Assassin as iconic as Ezio. He is the true Assassin. Unlike now
Bayek was also good
@@claytonbugeja1125 assassins creed origins: stardust crusaders Egypt arc
No other assassin has ever gotten Ezio's level of character development.
Honestly that's kind of unfair, as Ezio had 3 main games, was directly linked to Desmond (who had 5 games), and has many side appearances or mentions too in other games. I love Ezio, but the way people hail him as the best Assassin seems misguided, as other games have to merely do in 1 game in terms of character progression what Ezio got in 3.
Bayek is a nice character too, too bad he didn't get a sequel, that would've breathed life back in the games.
This is the best ending for Ezio's life, specially that finalle!!!
The Templar sitting by his side that instead of killing him, continuing the eternal war, the way he holds his hand and says to ezio to have courage and then just nodded, regognizing Ezio's as a honorable man and a worthy adversary that deserves to die on his terms, and then his words "Get Some rest!" meaning "Rest now old enemy!!!!"
And then his look in 19:04! He is thinking, I fought, I killed, I lost, I loved and was loved, now... now is time to let go!!!!!
Exactly!! Even at 18:41 he says to him courage old man in italian and then smiles at him and the next thing you see at ezio is an angry face because of getting used to all those years of fightning with the templars going to a more calm face by staring at him realizing that his enemy smiles at him showing him respect and then we see the templar again closing his eyes showing him that he wont attack leaving him to die in his peace and tells him to get some 'rest' huh?, meaning to just relax and stop fearing his enemy for a minute and look around and be happy with what he has achieved so far
Not a Templar tho
Who’s that guy I think I saw him somewhere

Always and forever
Rip Edward kenway aswell he has a shitty ending
Thank you so much for posting this. I just finished AC Revelations last night and felt like I was left hanging and this really brought it all together for me. Ezio is my favorite Assassin and I really loved how Ubisoft allowed these shorts to become apart of the series. Wish they would have done it with their other AC installments.
When his daughter looks as he passes away, what a tear jerker 😞
The guy at the end was a templar sent to kill Ezio, but seeing as he was dying, there was no point. Also he grabs his hand indicating Ezio figured it out and went for his small knife as defense and told him to rest showing he knew he was dying.
If you watched it, you would see that he was having a fit of coughing due to his health. The man grabbed his hand as this happened. So he gave no indication as to being a templar. He said to Ezio, coraggio vecchio which means "courage, old man". Simply giving solace to a dying man.
That doesn't make much sense, since that guy had neither wepons or templar signs. Ezio wasn't a master assassin anymore, so there was no point in killing him
Hyperion the man is a reflection of Ezio as a younger man, it’s basically been confirmed.
I got the feeling the guy was a templar, the expression he gives after kiiiinnda indicates it but that could just be his look as well. If he was a templar, though, he wouldn't have left Ezio sit there alive as he wouldn't have known how long Ezio had left. I kinda agree that he might seem a younger version of Ezio as Ezio was the same when he was that age. Kinda life repeating itself or much like life flashing before your eyes so to speak.
@@TheShortbread123 that guy is no reflection of ezio, ezio is was and still is way more handsome than him

I think this was absolutely the perfect ending for Ezio. He passed on his knowledge and died by his family in Firenze. Magnifique
biggest mistake since the release of this... everyone was crying out for ac in china but instead three most interesting setting of china india and russia became side crawler games....
@Joshua Phillips if only assassins creed was made by a different company then it wouldn’t be in the state it is now
I think they should just make games in those settings anyway and help them inform the plot, its not like many have played them, what a waste of three amazing settings.
@@Conorp77 honestly the ac ip was dead since syndicate may be origin, but after that they arent ac games anymore they are just shit triple a rpg that ubisoft attempted and know its not good enough to compare so they throw the ac title with it and put on the shelf....in reality ac is dead

I cannot describe how much Ezio's last words touch my heart and how much it actually influences how I live my life
It's impossible to describe what Ezio means to me. I've played countless games since I was 10, starting with Commodore 64, PC and console up to PS4. I have never had the same feelings for any other character, truly a masterpiece from Ubi. And also thank so for Lineage and Embers, you really nailed it. A small thing on Embers, as Italian I find incredible that no one in QA realized that there are two mistakes in the final speech: "... and love, most especially, mio caro..". Well, "mio caro" means "my dear" but refers to a male, he is referring to Sofia so he should have said "mia cara" , as it is in the Italian dubbed version. Second, no Italian would sign such love letter with "Ezio Auditore" , just "Ezio", again as it is in the Italian version.
19:05 - the joy and relief on his face in his last moments of seeing his family being alive and enjoying life.
So poetic and coming full circle with him seeing his family's death was the beginning of his way and him seeing his family alive was his end.

I remember the first time I watched this as part of the Collectors Edition of Revelations. Even after all these years, I still cry like I did that first time. There are few characters who are as close to my heart as Ezio Auditore Da Firenze and seeing this is like witnessing the death of a loved one.
I know how you feel still even years later revisiting his games then embers it feels like watching someone close to you die and even though time has passed you still haven't forgotten about him
Shao Jun's character arc was almost like Ezio's though.
She deserves to have her own game.
She does but I don't blame you for not knowing after all ac chronicles wasn't well advertised.
Among the three chronicle games, i really beg ubisoft to make a full length 3rd person game of shao jun, starting the game with her journey from meeting ezio back to china. I really want to see ezio for the last time :(
Just played through the Ezio collection again then watched this... still sobing now, what a amazing set of games and what a amazing character... RIP Ezio auditore da firenze, lost but never forgotten
Shao Jun deserves a new game. A better one
Redziz yeah lol
@Flezie how can u guess that? 😅
@Flezie lol,bruh 😂😂
she kould off become the most iconic assassin's creed character if the made her an open world game
@Vaidex pretty random though but how xD
I keep watching his final letter through the years. As i get older, it keeps getting more emotional. Seeing comments on this video that are new even to this day makes me feel some type of way. I miss these days. "Can you hear me, Cypher?"
*I wish i could erase my memory so i can relive Ezio' s whole life again*
this shows you how much Ubisoft did an amazing job for this game and taught us so much about history into a whole different way
Remember there is no book or teacher to give you the answers or show you the path choose your own way
How great would it be if they make an Assassin’s creed with Shao Yun, and at one point of the game, she comes to meet Ezio.

Probably not the first to say this but a little while ago I realised that we have literally watched Ezio grow up over the years. We have been watching literally from the day he was born to the day he died. From a mischievous teenage kid from Venice to one of greatest assassins in the creed's history alongside Bayek, Altair, Basim etc. He was a good man to the end. RIP.
I love how the animations and scenes relate back to ac2.
that disarm looked like straight out of the game lol
No one(NO ONE)!!! Can be compared to Ezio... He's the one who rules over the heart of people... ❤️❤️❤️
I really loved the subtle detail of him flicking his wrist to extend his hidden blade out of habit only for it not to be there
Easily one of the best video game protagonists ever! And Ubisoft created it and didn't screw up for once. RIP Ezio...amazing character!
It really makes me cry 😭 ezio the best assassin of all time what a story what a beautiful ending with such golden lines your are the true legend RIP Ezio Auditore da Firenze. 💔
It’s really bitter sweet. Just finished the Ezio chronicles. Last time I played his life, I was but a kid. Now as a man, the impact of Ezio’s life has even more meaning. A full life of countless experience that most could only dream of. Yet if he could only go back to his younger day, who knows how different things would’ve been. RIP Ezio, even as I end this trilogy, the memories of playing him will remain in my heart.
I know that Shao Yun already got a game in Assassins Creed Chronicles China, but I would love to see them give her a proper return to form game. In fact I believe she might even be deserving of a trilogy, giving us more informaion about her and her mentor, showing us what we may not have seen in embers, how she reacted to Ezio's passing, maybe even the man on the bench, and I would love to see what was in that box , maybe a feather. The kind Ezio collected for his brother. The restoration of the chinese order and whatever comes after that, as well as a modern day like the original games had. I don't read the comics so I'm not too familiar with Desmond's son, but bringing him along and saying that he's a descendant of Shao Yun perhaps from his mother's side seems like phenomenal fanservice to me, since they are both the next generation for Ezio and Desmond. Ubisoft even has a gimmick already in play with Shao Yun, her foot blade. All in all, I just think that a full blown Shao Yun Assassin's Creed has great potential and would be well received.
On this year of 2024, ezio died 500 years ago. may he rest in peace 🙏 🪦
Requiescat en Pace, Ezio Auditore.
When a legend dies,we can only cry for him/her... Thank you for everything, Ezio Auditore
I got this movie as part of the collector's edition of Revelations and this is the first time I've actually watched it. It's incredible. I prefer the theory that the young man was a Templar sent to kill him but respected him enough to let him die peacefully.
I remember this is the first that I cried at this clip where Ezio passed away, and second one is Arthur Morgan from Rdr2 last year
The fact that i came back to this movie after a while just to see if i still cry to the ending, and i still did, is just amazing. We never met, this man didn't even exist, yet i still mourn to his death after 10+ years.
This movie alone won’t tell you just how skilled and deadly assassin shao jun is in her own game. It’s no surprise that she was trained by ezio.
And just like that I am left, yet again, emotionally overwhelmed by Assassins Creed. There's just something so wonderfully esoteric in the series - Honour, being noble, sacrifice.... Esoteric because in our times these concepts feel abjectly abstract.
I just realized that Ezio's actual last words are "I don't think Firenze is your problem." but the actual last words that will be remembered from Ezio is what he said to Sofia which is "I am home."
"Nothing Is true, Everything Is Permitted"
so his death isn't true and bringing him back in a future game using an artifact of eden would be permitted lmao
@@flukeperfect1880 His death was Permitted.

I love the theory that the young man in the end was a Templar sent to kill Ezio, but he chooses to let him Die naturally, seeing as he was already there to begin with. The respect he gained from both sides cannot be ignored and the young man knows it. He let him die on his terms are of sheer respect for an enemy.
I think he is sort of a grim reaper look at that smile of him I think he wanted to say it's time and he left because he wanted to let him see his family for the last time

@@MrBda241 yeah and i it was true then iam fully satisfied with this ending🙂 I don't like that Templar theory and all bla bla..
