My dad was Business Manager for Spirit, among other groups. Ed Cassidy was a great guy, he would park his Nissan in our garage while away on tour. His son in law, Randy California, inspired by Hendrix, also inspired “Stairway” with his song “Taurus.” Mark Andes is legendary for his work with Spirit, Jo Jo Gun, Heart and Firefall. Saw them frequently in the 70s; hugely entertaining.
I think Brian Flon is commenting on how 12 Dreams did not get the attention it should have back in 1970 and subsequent to that period. In my opinion, the album is one of the best concept albums ever recorded. If it hasn’t already, it should be one of those videos where an unaware listener is given headphones to listen for the first time and then we see his or her reaction to it. It really is a gem.
I was very fortunate to spend the last 8 years of Ed "Cass"Cassidy's life getting to know him before he passed. He was still playing the drums a few times a week until he passed . Cass was a great person to know and I feel privileged to have had the opportunity to meet him. FYI he would play Jazz drum beats and sounded amazing!
Their first four albums are fantastic. The songs were imaginative and the production on those albums is first-rate compared to lots of music from that era. Just a really great band.
