- E457: In this episode some new firmware comes out for the A630, a 68030 Accelerator with 64mb fastram . this is to address the weirdness with bootscreens on roms greater than 3.1.4. however it screws up my system, i flash it back and then again, and back and again. then the ram says No sir!. I contacted retrorewind for some orig firmwares, and the creators Archi-Tech provide me with the correct firmware AFTER i recorded this. and it resolved the issue. so flash on your own if you dare. im NOW leaving mine as is...

Life lesson for me. When things go wrong in life emulate Chris when he borks it.
Thanks for sharing this! I might have tried updating the firmware for my perfectly working A630 myself, just to make it "better". I wished I had listened to you about the Furia before picking one up myself and eventually rehoming it via ebay a couple months later. I will listen this time...
Another great video of Chris, pulling, what little hair he has out, trying to flash upgrade an Amiga 600 accelerator card. These developers don't make it easy do they?
No they don’t. You are paying to BETA test 😤 Unfortunately a lot of the developers expect the end users to know their 2 bits compliment and their Hexadecimal notation. Not for the humble starter and beginner. Try and stick to the classic stuff where it should just work.
Another Vid that demonstrates that this new stuff is basically for those who wish to play and become BETA testers 😞 But you the consumer has to pay. Thanks for the Video Dr Chris 👍🏻 PiStorm to replace the 630? Have one in my A1200 with a Pi4B, overclocked to 2ghz. Now have a 68040 88 times faster than a A4000 040 @25mhz with 2GB FastRAM 😳🤗 Not sure what you will get with a 16BIT A600 Though….
I hope you can get it back. I always say a prayer and make a sacrifice to the firmware gods before attempting an update.
oh i did, i wrote it in the description. Archi tech provided the stock firmware and it came back to life as it was before i touched it.
Awesome
Peaked at 7, buy the T-shirt. ;) And here again, the question is asked: Why update? To fix bugs in unfinished software, or get a feature you otherwise can't get. >3.1 can be a rug pull, if not tested with everything. So can a firmware update. Both probably have some bugfixes, which may affect you or not. So, who's "right"? Generally the one who released first - because software can only ever be backwards compatible. OS authors have a great responsibility towards compatibility, and it's understood that part of the reason for >3.1 is to support newer accelerators, which are a great thing, and they can't know and test them all. So that means users become the testers.
Not sure why the Xilinx only works on Win7. Everything including drivers and low level stuff, DX, RTX, Vulkan, sound, MIDI, peripherals HW all bought recently work fine on Win7 here.
Be well, happy pre-Xmas and actually I'm scouting for a feedback video on your new soldering station, if you've had enough quality time with it. :)
Oh i love that soldering station so much so im ordering the desoldering station too
I hate my A630 no end of problems with its very fussy with the RGB2HDMI for some reason power draw possibly?
mine works fine, but i have a new power supply.
Ohhhhh this one is troublesome too.. good to know! Just flashed my furia, it worked vi a pi2.. sadly still cannot get 14.3 firmware to work with my media on 3.2.2.1 (sigh).
As you seem to be very current in the Amiga community I'm hoping to get your advice on what would be the best venue for selling off some of my old hardware. I have several Amiga systems that I should probably see if there is interest in. These include several A500's, an A600, an A1000, an A1200, a CDTV, several A2000's, an A3000, and an A4000 with a Cyberstorm 603 PPC/68060 accelerator. I also have other accessories such as an A530 accelerator, a 286 bridgeboard, and more. In addition, I have a couple of SX64's, a C128D, and a few C64's and accessories. I'd rather avoid eBay if possible but do you have a sense where the best place would be to shop these things around? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
amibay? i dont really know. i do alot of private transactions myself.
Thanks. I'll check that out. I think that's where I got my A1000 from, if memory serves.
he’s not exaggerating either if you even gently blow on the cable while it’s updating, it won’t work
Hey Chris, I bought a 8mb ram expansion for my A600, and it worked for a few days the I had the dreaded Red faulty screen come up and after checking the Ram expansion I concluded that this too had bad ram, I make the TF328 which uses the same Alliance ram chips so I swapped out the first two IC ram chips and and bingo it is up and running again, so are our A600s ram killers ? and are the Alliance ram ICs a bit flakey as I bet they are on your A630( I have one too :)
Well the factory firmware fixed it
@@ChrisEdwardsRestoration Great news, So in conclusion, it is ok to update the firmware but it does not work with OS 3.2 ?
i would leave it be. it does nothing to help with anything.
Where did you get your cfcard adapter?
I believe Dr Chris got it from retro rewind like the 630 card.
Retrorewind.ca. Use my code nocode save 10%
bork, bork, bork.
Do colonists get Muppets reference?
Yup i have the chef in some episodes
Boa noite qual tamanho máximo de HD que o amiga 1200 aceita?
depende de qual versão da ROM você possui sys: sempre sub4g dh1: máximo de 120 GB em 3.14+
Vou depois te envio Obrigado
kind of why I really dislike firmware upgrades...
Looks like all these "modern" Amiga accelerators bring more drama than anything else.
Dish the 600, get a Blizzard card (you know, the real accelerators that work flawlessly no matter what) in a 1200 and live on! 😁😛🙃
Well it works fine i was just trying to correct a bug
GOOD
Is this a reason to use Pistorm as your accelerator as it is being actively developed...... or is the Pistorm more emulator rather than accelerator? Yeah trying to start this debate as I'm having it with myself
Excellent question. Not sure what I am going to put in my A600, but I wan to be able to go back to stock for some retro programming if need be.
Yep. PiStorm would be a good starter. You can soon get the Vampire V4 for A600. Used the Furia in the past (Don’t bother) and the Vampire V2 for A600 👍🏻 The PiStorm only emulates the CPU @ 68040 188MHz. The FastRAM is derived to which Raspberry Pi you use. Max FastRAM is the limit to the Amiga. Don’t confuse the PiStorm with a Vampire which is pretty much just the Vampire and hardly any of the machine. PiStorm is NOT a Vampire 👍🏻
Not at
All I have never had a single problem with this device. I chose to upgraded to fix a screen issue when there is no hard drive attached the unit works perfectly fine, and in the extended description, I stated that the manufacturer gave me the correct firmware, and it is now functioning fine.
