Angry Video Game Nerd (AVGN) episode 175: The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask. People love this game. People say it's the greatest game for the Nintendo 64. Some say it's the best game of all time. Really? Majora's Mask is an action-adventure game developed and published by Nintendo for the Nintendo 64. It was released in 2000 as the sixth main installment in The Legend of Zelda series and was the second to use 3D graphics. It's set in Termina, an alternate reality to Ocarina of Time's Hyrule, which is to be destroyed along with its inhabitants in three days by a giant falling moon unless the player can save it from imminent doom. But can the Nerd survive this game???

"the year 2020 is upon us...doomsday!"
oh no
"you must wear these masks"
Oh No
At least our masks don’t make us scream in agony when we wear them
@@nothinspecial8004 Oh No............
@@nothinspecial8004 Have you not seen the no mask protests?
"And at the end of the night when you take the masks off they're going to conform to your face like on the Twilight Zones. 😠😠😠"
Except the masks in Zelda actually work
You're old if you remember when Majora's Mask was too modern to be featured in an ANN episode.
It's weird to think AVGN started only 5 years after MM's release.
Damn right, I look forward to seeing him do more N64 episodes. Blues Brothers 2000 maybe? That game was hot garbage.
These days PS2 games are considered "Retro".
New Cult King same for me lol found his Ninja turtles review when I was like 12 and was hooked ever since
oh god... He's Retro.
My favorite part of the game was the fact that there is a lottery you can buy a ticket. Lose. Go back in time with the winning numbers. And win. Which was always a fantasy of mine as a kid if I had time powers. Haha
Why did I never think to do that? It's so obvious!
I remember that! The same thing about the Bombers Code. This game is a geniune piece of work
Lol that's really cool I never thought of it.
It’s like Gray’s Sports Almanac in ”Back to the Future 2”.
Of course you did. If any of us got superpowers, being a hero would be secondary to not having to go to work ever again.
"The one who has nothing to give, but somehow gives too much of it"

Hey said once that he will never stop this series. He said even if it slows down don't think it will stop. Since he said that he's been releasing them way more often then he did about 3 years ago.
he'll be running the nerd for as long as he gets high viewers. Although i will say back in 2013 the nerd would get 2 million views within an hour, this video was uploaded early today and only has 170k views at the moment i type this.
He needs to set a "final" game in stone like The Completionist. With that, I don't have to worry until I see DKC2.
9:41 "You can't beat an entire Zelda game in less than 3 hours."
Speedrunners: "Hold my Rolling Rock."
Zelda speedruns are so impressive to see in action. 👀
We need more N64 from AVGN.
He seems to hate all n64 gameplay mechanics. Even ones I think were done very well. I've already realized he's one of those people who didn't get into the n64 when it was out and will hate it no matter what. He complains his way through games that most people love.
@@shaun8062wtf are you talking about??
@@BrendanJSmith I'm answering you as to why I don't think you'll see a comparatively large amount of n64 from AVGN. He has never seemed very into it and gets specifically frustrated with the mechanics in most of the games which others do not seem to have a problem with.
@shaun8062 there's a James & Mike Mondays episode where James says that the GameCube is the Nintendo console he's the least familiar with and the N64 was the console he was obsessed with getting his hands on. And which N64 games are you talking about?

Yes
I never thought I’d see the day when AVGN would do a Twilight Zone sketch. Pleasantly surprised.
Majora's Mask was the first game where I followed a strategy guide religiously just to get through the game. Over time, I didn't use it as much, and then it got to the point where I didn't need it at all. But I will say, the 3DS version of the game is amazing and it fixes loads of things from the 64 version. The clock is also easier to follow and you can choose specific times to jump to, but only going forward and not back. But it does teach you on how to deal with time and schedule things at specific times. The whole game is a cool idea. It just takes a good bit of time to get used to it.

That's how it would've ended the world
Imagine this: it's the new year everyone is cheering for joy. Suddenly everyone's cheer of joy turns into screams of fear. You look up and realise that the moon is crashing down. As you look at what would be the last thing you would see you, hear the AVGN theme and then, "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA"

@@Marcusianery Obviously he should know the way the path goes before he's ever played it.
Inventory and Rupee problem could be fixed if they implemented some type of Magic Chest that you can store everything in before you save and go back in time. Basically it is an item that exists at all different timelines. Just dump everything in it and then go and get it back. Maybe make it a quest to go find it.
I love this. I know, generic, but this and OoT are generally my favorite older games to play. But as far as the hookshot, you shoot the tree on the turtle because it grabs onto wood. Did you know that Majora's Mask's time limit was originally going to be 7 Days (168 Hours), but due to N64 hardware limitations, design choices, and the fact this idea was in the pre-planning stage, it was slashed down to 3 Days (72 Hours).
Michael Kearney Jesus Christ it would’ve been so much easier lmao. They should’ve added that to the 3DS version

Especially great bay temple
The exact way I feel about the game. Fun watch as usual.
"Or Raid 2020, maybe I'll review THAT in the year 2020" Oh the continuity is strong.
ya at the time I bet no one expected AVGN to still be going strong into 2020
If he did it right, He mentioned it on december 19, 2009. So the 19th of the month would be perfect. I bet he has forgotten. He has had a whole slew of rolling rocks since then.
“It doesn’t erase the past, which is where I take you.”
As does the game. How ironic.
@@PershingDragoon Ironic as of how?
@@genebomb9958 Time travel I guess?
My man predicted 2020
It's incredible how enjoyable I can find an AVGN episode while disagreeing with pretty much all of the criticisms put forth. Sign of a great content creator. Looking forward to seeing you in Portland!
“This game is depressing-I like it.” Story of my life
was the eddie griffith as narrator?
"Goosebumps Man, I got'em....All the R.L. Stine Books"- Greatest AVGN line ever.
"You're going in the ark, you fucknut" from Bible Games is great as well
“The year 2020 is upon us, doomsday.”
You have no idea how close to the nose you were. It was a horrible wonderland.
I disagree that the Nintendo 64's graphics are unsatisfactory. The low poly count and plain textures gave rise to a certain style, as long as you did not zoom in too much to character faces or stared at a wall.
I agree, literally PS1 but better, less grainy
Nintendo 64 imo looks really nice with simple cartoony or pastel art style
The reason why the graphics catch so much hate is because they look at the games that tried to be realistic
