I’ve had mk5 golfs for years and never knew you could do this! Replaced a door lock module today on mine, but it didn’t fix the issue, so I’ve got a broken wire or communication issue. Leaving my car in a multi story next week which is a few miles from where I’ll be staying, so this comes in really handy. Thank you.
Thanks for the tip. In fact it even fixed the central locking, I guess it wasn't electrical but something got stuck because I don't use that door often.
I sure hope that’s the issue for me too; at least worth a try. I had a blaring alarm with my Jetta. Forums said it was a failing door latch as some my locks unlock and lock probably due to the backdoor
Another great video thanks. We have to leave our car in a public car park mid lock repair. Knowing how to manually lock the faulty door is a godsend. Thanks again.
Amazing thank you! 2008 VW Jetta and constantly have a problem with the rear driver side door not locking. Followed your instructions exactly and was able to lock the door! Life saving hack! 👍😊
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I just went from one heart attack (passenger door is permanently unlocked) to a second one (fixing it on my 2007 Rabbit would be about $500). Given that I need my passenger door maybe 3 times a year, I guess a permanent lock/manual lock when required it is from now on. One word of warning - that rubber grommit is quite sensitive, I managed to push it right into the door - au revoir and auf Wiedersehen! And yet another comment - I was able to unlock the door aferwards with the FOB, just had to hit it twice. However, It wouldn't lock again via the FOB. Long story short - always double check your passenger door while in this state and be prepared to manually lock. Inconvenient, but definitely beats leaving the car unlocked, so again THANK YOU!
Thank you, this really helped. Today I had to leave the shopping mall because car door won't lock. And to leave the car open and to go shop is like leaving your new born unattended......
Thanks for the video,it saved me but do you know what is the problem, what I have to change do work normally?Mine it does open by remote or keys but doesn’t want to close
Well my God, fair play to you... went to 3 garages today and nobody had time and need sorted for tomorrow... 1 minute video and problem solved. Thanks so much
Many thanks for your video. I am leaving my car at the airport for a week very soon. I thought I had better check the locks and found that neither of the rear doors would lock. Adding the cost of repairing the locks to the expense of the holiday did not appeal. luckily I found your video which saved the day. Now I can wait to get them repaired when my wallet has recovered. Thanks again.
I have a problem with my drivers door. The handle outside is showing that the car is not locked.I have tried this trick & it didn't work.Even now my car door is not locked.Pleae help
Hi, My polo battery is dead so my remote will not work in that case and apart from that when i use the key to enter only the driver seat door is locked and unlocked the rest of the doors are unlocked they dont get locked.
@@jxi5671 No mate I had a tempermental door where it would lock itself whenever it wanted. I messed round with that part where the grommet is now the door won't even open to get at the grommet part again
Quick question, do you know if this will solve a alarm issue, my mk5 r32 keeps triggering the alarm because it detects the rear door isn’t locked (according to forums) while nothing has happened to trip the alarm otherwise. Thanks so much for the help with this vid, I accidentally pushed the grommet in when trying haha.
Crazy my new Taos is having this issue. I was told by the Dealer that they could not permanently lock it until they received the replacement part so I haven’t been able to use my car for 3 weeks now.
Golf4/Passat B5 had a way more convenient way of manually locking each door. They had lock notches, which allowed each passenger to lock their doors individually. I hate that VW decided to remove it
i pushed the rubber cap into the door by accident do i need the rubber bit on there? i spent hours trying to lock my car i was getting so stressed then found this video so thankyou sooo much
This vid helped me so much. My car wouldn’t lock at night on a public street in LA. My alarm was activated but the back door wouldn’t lock and I wouldn’t have a car in the morning if this video didn’t help me lock my door. The instructions worked! 🚨
Brilliant. Thank you. Only thing is, I passed the rubber grommet in the door! Also worth noting that various VW forum users don’t even know about this (or at least mention it when you ask for help).
@@endredyrkolbotn3132 I didn't. It's inside the door somewhere. It's been there for over a year and hasn't affected car use. In fact, the lock seemed to fix itself after doing this a few times.
Now I can sleep with both eyes closed
Lol
Same bro 🤣
Great video. This is exactly the info I needed, really clear, super helpful. :-)
Wow, great video, no blathering, no nonsense, just straight to the point.

My doorlock just failed this morning so happy I can lock it over night now bless you good sir 🙏🏻
Thanks, the passenger door on my Rabbit wasn't locking, and this trick at least gives me a way to secure the car.
What about the boot lid please???

If the indicators don’t flash when you lock the car the door is still unlocked

Ur a legend ur worked for me thank you

How do you undo the emergency locking because you can't get at the plastic grommet part when the door is closed?
Watch the full vid lol

Excellent! Worked perfectly.
Does this work on a 2013 passat?
Just discovered mine was unlocked while about to leave the car in a car park for 4 hours!
Invaluable video 👍

I have the same problem whit a Skoda Octavia 2.I will try this process-Thanks
Is there something to worry about, if doing this too often? Lile problems with the alarm or something like this?
Hello i did this and it wont open from inside.
basically it is dead door now. any suggestions about how can resolve this problem?
Thank you for the info, but what about the hatch? There's no manual lock i can see. i have a 2011 Jetta Wagon
Thank you sir so much
I did this and now the door wont unlock even from inside so the door is stuck locked. Any idea how to fix this?
Try to open from the inside first, then open on the outside. Doesn't make sense, but it worked for me
You absolute legend

Thank you so muchhhh
Life saver, works the same on Audi A3 8P
My son did this and now he can't open the door. Is there a way to open the door now?
You forgot to put the Volkswagen Das auto at the end.
very helpful, no shit , just the hack.
Great Video 👍
Thank you from Portugal 😎👍🏼

How do you manually lock a mk5 golf 3-door? Same sequence as shown here but procedure done on driver’s side door?
