- Before replacing your lock actuator for $$$, try this!
If it does fail I did replace mine so below is info on how to do it.
Actuator replacement info • 2010 - 2017 Audi A4 (...
Damn. Dude's a hero. Saving people lots of 💰💰💰 I just did this on my A3 hatchback. My wife thinks our son tripped up the lock when he kept trying to open the locked door before I hit the unlock button on the key.
DUDE!!!! I just replaced all 4 door lock modules on my 2009 Jetta Sportwagen. I got all the door lock modules from a junkyard, so there was a risk of all not working, but turned out to be only one that didn't work, the left rear door. I was so bummed after hours of work, but after watching your video, discovered I could manually lock that door!!! So excited! Thank you! (this saves me another trip to the junkyard!)
I have a 2010 Audi Q5 Quattro and one of the back doors wouldn’t unlock using the Key Fob. I pulled that cover off and compared it to the other back door and sure enough, they were in different positions. I turned it to match the other door and now it works perfectly fine! Thank you so much for your short and to the point video.
Literally didn't believe it could be that easy, well done. Saved me $$$ and time. Worked perfectly. Thanks for posting.
OMG! This worked for my A3. I was so bummed out thinking I would have to pay to get my door repaired. Thanks so much!
Worked on my Seat Leon mk3, it was always intermittant, i even gave it to the garage for a week once and they couldn't find the fault. Was planning on stripping the door down today and replacing the actuator but lucky I found this. You sir are a legend!
Had that exact problem and your solution worked perfectly. Thought I was gonna have to spend a bunch too get it fixed. Your the man!
Just tried this on my A4 since my rear door wasn’t locking took me literally 30 seconds and all my doors are locking perfectly! I’m also hearing the chirp sound again when I lock the car. THANK YOU FOR THIS VIDEO!!
I have a 2009 passat 2.0 diesel. Problem is all my doors lock but when I open them the drivers side (uk) doesn't open. It has the rubber capping but underneath it is solid. Help
Hell yeah! Works on my B8 A4! Also side note- you don’t have to use a flat head, it’s made to fit your key inside the fob
This worked on my 2017 VW Tiguan, which was locking the rear door, but not unlocking it with the remote. I was worried it would be a costly repair, but the door in this video looked just like my Tiguan, and when I twisted that thing, it started working again. Thank you!
A big thanx from me too! The rear lock on my 2009 A3 hadn't worked (the actuator worked but the door wouldn't release using the outside handle) for months and I was just about to go to the trouble and expense of pulling the door apart and replace the mechansim when I watched your video. Within 5 mins, it was working again!! Not quite as straight forward as turning the actuator though - I had to turn the actuator 90 degs clockwise and hold it there while firmly pulling on the door release lever on the inside of the door a few times. This seemed to reset something in the locking mechanism. I closed the door, locked it, then unlocked it and tried opening it from the outside with the handle and.... sucess!! :-) Thanx so much - now I don't have to waste my weekend working on my car!
Hmm im gonna try that
My man!!! I had this issue on my Bday, going to dinner with my family. Figured I have to visit the dealer, and dealer pricing right before Christmas. I tried this, and wouldn't ya know...success!!!!!!! Thank you!
Had same problem on my 09 Q5. I park on street and was worried with the rear door not locking and the click sound not chirping. This fixed it.Thank you for this video.
Had the same issue on my wife's 07 Jetta. Same concept, worked great. God Bless You and thank you for taking ur time to post this video. God Bless You All.
My 2016 Q3 has had this issue for gosh knows how long. It gives me a lot of anxiety sitting in parking lots as it wouldn’t lock on either front doors. Figured it would cost an arm and a leg.
Well. Googled it up and I just won some MAJOR points with my husband ;). Went outside at midnight and had him hold the flashlight. All it took was turning one doors “reset thing you showed”. Bing bang boom…
Locked the entire car up like new lol.
My husband is so impressed lol! Ty!
I spent almost an hour looking at videos on UA-cam about people taking apart the door, skin and door card to disassemble the locks and window regs.
I went out to my mk5 golf and tried this and the door is now locking perfectly. Thank you 👍👍
Just a follow up on this. It worked for me fine for a week but then went back to normal. But now, before I lock it I keep my front door open and click 'unlock' on the fob. Then closer the door click lock and all 5 doors lock everytime
Yet another Thank You! My actuator failed in the rear passenger door and it was causing non-stop re-locking behavior every time I hit 10mph because the system knew not all the doors were locked. Locking the doors with fab or door controls did nothing to the rear door. Although the actuator isn't fixed I was looking for a temporary solution since I almost never use that door and this worked perfectly and saved me a few hundred $! The controls you demonstrated got the door to lock when it was closed the first time and the system registered all doors locked when I clicked the door control. As long as that door isn't opened again the problem has gone away. Now I know what to do next time the door is open and it has to be reset. Thanks!!
Thank for that tip - you saved my big bucks! I don’t even want to post how much the local VW shop quoted me to fix that door lock actuator.
Yeah dealers are a complete ripoff. I did replace it myself eventually as ultimately it will fail again.
Thank you! I turned the white knob fully clockwise on my passenger front door which helped ACTIVATE my passenger rear door which was stuck locked after the actuator went out and child lock was ON. THANK YOU!
Thank you, i had this problem today. I was very worried about leaving the car like this over night and about how much i should spend to fix it. You saved me, thank you again.
Worked for me! 2017 A4, rear driver's side door. What you actually found is the emergency door lock mechanism. If you turn that screw to the outside, then shut the door, that will lock the door and prevent it from being opened from the outside until you open it from the inside.
Looks like cycling the emergency lock relieves issues with the electronic door lock actuator, at least temporarily.
For me, it was the driver's door that stopped to lock with the remote. Unlike the other 3 doors, there is no adjustable 'switch' underneath the grommet on the driver's door. What solved my problem with inserting the key to manually lock/unlock the car. After a few times, the chirp came back, even when using the remote.
Worked a treat, was looking for a video on how to replace the lock when this popped up so saved probably £100. 👍👍👍👍👍
Very interesting adjustment feature you've revealed here. What I believe that adjuster does is adjust the setting/triggering of the small micro switch located in that area of the lock. The VW Polo locks can also be troublesome and central locking misfunctions. Quite often it is the micro switch failing to operate properly that causes issues with central locking. It seems on these later locks that an improvement of a micro switch adjuster has been added by the manufacturer.
Brilliantly easy solution - thanks a lot
Holy $#!T this worked.
Just bought a used Q5. A few days later I learned that the rear passenger door wasn’t locking. I spent $100 on a new actuator, took the whole door apart, then realized I needed a triple square bit for the last two screws. I was looking for some replacement screws since mine were already slightly stripped when I came across this video. Decided to give it a try…. Now I actually get a chirp when I lock the doors. Hopefully I still have time to return the actuator I bought.
It may not last a long, but hopefully it buys you some time.
I kept the latch that I purchased just in case. If I don't hear a chirp when I lock the doors, then I'll know to check it again. We'll see what happens. @@mrmanitoba
Great work and thanks for sharing. Worked brilliantly on my Audi Q5 2009 passenger side door - Lock open started intermittent then complete fail - Now fixed! I think these little adjustement dials just move out of place over time
Hi mrmanitoba. Thank you so much. This worked on two doors on my 11 q5. It had stopped chirping when i locked it and two doors wouldn't lock. Your solution fixed the issue in under a minute. You are the man ✌️
I have a 2010 Q5. Passenger door stopped locking and no "chirp".. Tried this and it works fine now! Not sure for how long but for now its awesome! Thank you!
Fixed the passanger door in 2009 A4 in seconds thank you sir not all heroes wear capes
305RIDER same problem rn , with the same car , with the same door lol
I just tried this on my 2008 S8 and it worked! Crazy. Nobody explains this anywhere....!!
Wow!! Got my 06 VW Rabbit passenger door lock working in about 30 seconds. Awesome tip!! Thank you!!
I have the same issue with my 2010 vw passat. Tried this and it works..now I need to find out what that adjustment is for future reference. Save me lots of time and money because I was planning to remove and replace the actuator..Thank You
Did u ever figure it out?
This works! I was preparing to spend a bunch of money to fix it but you just saved me!!
You are f-ing awesome!!! This fixed my issue on my rear driver side door on my 2010 A4. So glad I didn't have to spend $$$ on yet another repair. :)
That little trick has made my day, I will update here as and when I do this mod
Perfect! I had this same issue with my A3. The adjustment worked and the door is locking again. Thanks!!
oooh my god, thanks for this video. finally passengers no longer have to get in my Audi A5 through the trunk 🤣🤣
Just saved me from replacing my door actuator ! Thank you
Thanks for let us know how fix this issue, you save me lot time to found the problem, thanks again.
Definitely worked thank you so much. I’m still having trouble fixing the drivers side because the mechanism doesn’t have the same shape as the other doors
I pulled out the rubber flap and I do not have that white adjustable thing in it. mk5 gti
This just happened to me and my 06 Cayenne S this morning on a very cold Nebraska day! Thank you for this video! FYI the Cayenne has a similar rubber cap, but it covers a release mechanism allow the lock to open.
Thank you. Same issue and fix, mine a 2011 Porsche cayenne. Saved me beaucoup $. Much appreciated.
dude you just saved me a lot of time and money.
Thank you so much for this ! My door has been doing this on & off for a few months.
You my friend rock. I was just about to buy a new actuator and tried this. Fixed. Thank You
Is it still working?Ty in advance
That's what I wanna know how long did it last and stay fixed
PHEW solved my issue, at least temporarily - THANK YOU!
Which way do I hv to turn? Mine doesn’t have the blue markers.
So right door counter clock-wise & left door clock-wise?
Tks
It’s not an adjustment btw. It’s just a manual mechanical lock/unlock knob. You can basically nudge the sticky automated mechanism inside to either lock or unlock position. They’re known to jam or stick unfortunately.
Thank you soooo much! This solved my problem. I have a 2006 Jetta turbo. Same exact issue with passenger rear door. I didn't have a knob to twist but I did pull off the little black plastic tab and shoved my flat head screw driver in there and it immediately engaged the lock. Now the door locks but doesn't unlock with my remote. I can still open it from the inside. My main concern was locking all doors. Thanks!
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!! I was getting ready for hours of headache, and i decided to watch one more video. thank God it was yours. it worked on my a4. I wish I can kiss you. xoxoxo
haha, I took the panel off looking to replace actuator, and while playing with it doing exact same thing as you I fixed it...wish i saw vid first.
My inner door handle did not work
And this was the solutution
Thank you!
Thank you! Fixed my Q5 perfectly. What would people do without UA-cam?!?
pornhub
Hats off to your sir! Same issue on my Passat was fixed because of your video. THANK YOU!!
Love the video and I’m liking the comments, been holding off from not going to pay probably for an actuator when it’s as simple as this. I’ll come back and update my comment if this works lol.
You are the God of Audi
Thanks! This worked on my 2012 Cayenne as well. Really appreciate you sharing!
this fixed mine.. door wasn't locking or chiming.. bless up
worked on my 2012 tiguan, thanks so much!
But how to use with this button? Turn it anti- clockwise?
You did save my Bacon there!!
Seems to be a good short term fix.
Worked for my A3.... So weird, glad it was an easy fix!
Is it still working after months?
Thanks you just save me so much worry and stress.
Thanks, my VW Jetta MK5 rear left door didn't lock /unlock using the FOB or the central lock switch, the indicator light on the central lock switch still off but all other 3 doors working well, so I pushed a red mechanism inside the hole and the locking system begins to work, I think the red mechanism is part of the child locking system, maybe mine is broken and doesn't work with the external mechanism. Thanks again.
haha... I had the same problem in my VW bora 2009 (mk5), I dint have idea how to solved it.
It's not the child lock system, that red mechanism is the actual door lock module. It holds the door handle mechanism from being able to go back far enough to open the door.
Bro thank you so much for this tip, saved me a ton $$$ and worked, only thing is I have to twist the nob every time I need to lock it but I can live with that haha. Easy fix!! Appreciate the help once again 🙏
it worked for me on my 2012 Touareg. Thanks loads.
mine doesn't have that white screw, just a white blank
Duuuuude ! Thank you ! Fixed my A5 . Its chirping again thanks to you!
Thank you! thank you, worked for my vw Passat. You saved me a lot time and money.
Is it still working?Ty in advance
@@SlavisaNedic yup, one month later and still working. I added WD 40 and worked in the actuator adjustment knob.
@@girgisville Ty for your reply buddy, its good to know that simple fix is not just short time fix.
@@girgisville am i suppose to turn car on to reset it after I turn that reset button?
@@lonestar8968 i don't recall doing anything with the ignition, think the principal is the mechanism inside gets stuck in the unlock position and turning the knob loosens it up. Thinking how stuck it is inside affects the results. Going on a year now and still working.
Like Jeremy mentioned earlier, this helps lock door once. But then, after I unlock it from inside, all locks just go nuts! All of them may stop locking or unlocking (driver door always unlocks). Or maybe just the bad door stays locked and other don't lock at all. Or they lock and bad door does not. Then, after walking around, opening and closing doors, pushing on remote a lot, they suddenly may start working (except the bad one). The way they are related to each other somehow is really bad design.
This is the second time your video came in handy
Awesome dude, my rear passenger door wasn’t getting locked for 10 months and even i wasn’t aware of that , noticed today and fixed it in 5 min
Thanks 👊
What to do if I twisted that lock and I cannot open my door anymore?
Just did mine and it worked out perfect thanks a lot man💯💯
Thanks a lot. It worked for my 2010 A6 Quattro. You saved me a lot of $$$$$$. Thanks again
that is a manual lock incase the actuator fails. I used that to permanently lock a rear door but when opened from the inside it overrides it and won't lock again until you do it manually..
Hi I’ve done this on a rear door but now not opening from I inside or out any ideas?
I thank you for this mann, my issue has been solved!!!
The function of these two locks is pretty simple really and is explained in your owner's manual. The child safety lock prevents the door from being opened from the inside (logical). The other lock prevents the door from being opened from the outside. This will definitely not fix any real problem with the actuator you have. Simply put, your problem might have been solved because someone else before you was playing with these locks and the second one was put in a locked status.
just worked for my Q7. Thanks!!
Thanks so much man you don't know how happy I am
Does it have to be certain position?
Have a problem with 2012 Passat. Front passenger door doesn't lock.
You’re a life and wallet saver. Thank you
ok i tried this and it was okay for one few times but yes i think my actuator is actually bad and ultimately does need to be replaced
Yes it helps we audi people need to stick together ill try it as soon as mine leaves the shop.
Tryed it today on my passat rear driver side door. It worked but then I went back later to unlock my doors and guess what the issue was there against..it did not completely fix my issue☹am I suppose to turn car on to reset it??
But when i close the doors and open again the plastic thing move back to the possition as before
Bought a used Jetta and the back doors wouldnt open...Started losing my mind only to realize because of your video...the child lock was on....I turned it off and tah daaaaaaaaaaaahhhh. Problem solved!
My 08 S5 is having the same problem so I checked the door for the grommet with the lock on it.. I take the grommet off and I see a similar white knob/switch except mine doesn’t have a groove it’s just flat and I can’t turn it. Any ideas?
Anyone know why my drivers side does NOT have this adjustment? (2009 Q5 Pr. Plus package 3.2L Quat)
I’m having very same symptoms but (of course) the failing door does not seem to have this adjustment - there’s a white plug, but there is no way to turn the white adjustment. In other words, there’s no recessed area to fit the key or a screwdriver in there why?
That was the easiest fix ever, thank you so much.
In my AudiA6 2000, glass doors started sliding up and down until my battery was dead. My mechanic told me to change the central actuator or unplug the driver side lock. Now my driver side lock don't work with the electronic key but rest of the doors are fine. Any tip?
Tried this on my Audi A3 today and it worked but kept failing after I locked the car again. The mechanism keeps moving, if I turn it and it opens, after I shut it a couple times it reverts back to another position it’s so frustrating! Does this mean it’s actually broken? My door was fine until I took it to my mechanics last week for an MOT! Really annoying issue.
This worked on my 2007 A3! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! Save me $590!
So, I have the same problem and tried to do what you do in the video here, but it doesn't look exactly like that. There's nothing there when I remove the grommet. But! If I shove my key (screwdriver, whatever) in the hole, something gets pushed back & clicks. But it doesn't seem to stay that way. I'm stumped.
Mine won’t rotate the mechanical door lock mechanism it seems stuck and the rear door won’t open from the inside
Hello, I did this fix and it fixed the problem for a while, then it went faulty again and I had to readjust and fix it again. Not a hard or time consuming fix however can be very annoying.
Does anyone know what to do if this problem keeps reoccurring, as in how do I keep the adjuster from moving ? Thanks
Awesome video, I have the same problem, the right rear door wont lock. however this adjustment for my audi a4 2013 only has 2 settings, one for unlock and lock for the exterior door latch. right now I've adjust it to lock and the chirping when i lock with the fob is back. However i cannot unlock the door from the outside. Probably just going to leave it like that until i really need to use the rear door.
I have the same thing to the front passenger door. Its like the manual way to lock the door. People think I'm an ass because I don't open the door for my wife lol I will replace mine after the new year.
I am having the same issue! how to fix this
My ‘15 Jetta has it too. Was wondering what it did!
Shouldn’t the blue stripes be lined up though?
That part confused me a bit..
so erm... what do i do if my actuator adjustment does not have alignment marks?
i checked all 3 doors i have this problem with and none of them, not even the driver's door has alignment markings on the adjustment screw 😅
Worked for me on my 2015 A6! Thanks a million!
Is it still working after months?
