This looks like the most stressful relaxation game ever.
Spherical space is very stressful imo. Space is finite and depending on how small the hypersphere is it can be extremely claustrophobic.
@@TheRealToaster2 hyperbolic space could be really stressful on some maps too - if that forest one is a maze, that could be hella confusing because there is just so much stuff crammed around a single point to get lost in (especially since you can get turned around without turning).
@@Owen-bk5fc Definitely. In Hyperrogue when you are trying to find a way around an obstacle or building, it feels like you are going in multiple circles even though you aren’t even half of the way to the other side.

I'm probably most excited to see what non-euclidian shenanigans you'd need to do in a speedrun. And having to watch people like Summoning Salt try to explain non-euclidian space in a world-record progression.
Some tips that I can think about right now:
• In spherical space, if you could find your way to the center of the sphere, I believe you will just fall onto the other side! You could use that as a shortcut!
• In hyperbolic sections, you want to get high (up). Because of the way the vertical axis works, you actually move faster the higher up you are.
I'm also thinking about a challenge where you can only rotate the camera through holonomy.
Who needs parallel universes, just walk slightly aside and travel a thousand meters in the other direction :D
I think your interpretation of spherical geometry is flawed. The space acts like the surface of a sphere, but in fact there is no sphere, and thus no centre. You couldn't point out where on a map of the Earth the 'centre' was, unless you pointed to wherever the middle of the map is, or maybe the intersection of the equator and date line. I think the space being used is S2 + E, so it will indeed act like the surface of a sphere but you can jump up and down a bit. Jumping will not get you closer to the other side of the space, even though it appears right above you, in fact it may appear that the space above you draws further away.
Edit: Checked the "spherical geometry is strange" devlog and I was wrong. He's using S3, not S2 + E, so it probably behaves as you described.
I believe in the hyperbolic sections, he made the vertical axis flat instead of hyperbolic, just to make it easier to add verticality to levels. So sadly being higher up won't actually make you move faster.

Most of the time the game seem 2d, but it has actually some layer of 3d for some mechanics, and indeed it's euclidian to keep stuff simplier.
"Why he is running in circles ? It's because his magical sword has a fixed angle, and thank to the holonomy of hyperbolic space when you came back to where you were your orientation will have changed, and it's look like the sword changed angle but it's only the orientation that changed"

Let's just hope that some big name Let's Player stumbles across this. Because that' probably the only way this game will find real success, considering that this channel has less than 150,000 subs.

love the track for this trailer, slightly off tune but also experimental electro style? giving it the futuristic vibe those robot npcs give but also the off keys hammer in the fact that hyperbolica is non-euclidian and mostly as a consequence, mind-bending

WOOOOOO! So proud of you! I'm so glad to see this isn't one of those overly ambitious indie projects that just sort of fades away like Miegekure did. I remember watching the very first video you did about hyperbolic geometry when it came out and I was instantly hooked. Major props to you for sticking it out and actually working through it to get to the end. Super excited to play it!
Miegekure hasn't faded away, it's still in active development and the developer posts updates on their blog every few months. it takes a long time to make a game, especially one that is doing something that's never really been done before

@@spiderstheythem Development for games does take a long time but Miegakure started development back in the same year the PS3 slim was announced. If other games were developed at this kind of pace consoles wouldn't exist because the first games for any given console wouldn't come out by the time the next was obsolete. I hope Miegakure does release some day but it's not like it's taking 13+ years just because games take a lot of effort to develop. Even *Half Life* is seeing faster releases at this point.
@@clancywiggum3198 I was gonna write a lengthy response to this, but to summarize; "normal" games have tons of premade tools they can use to speed up developing by many years. Miegakure has none. It has to do everything from scratch. So your comparisons are unfair.
Codeparade talks about miegakure's development in his third devlog on this game.

The pitch for "A game that takes place in hyperbolic space" was already incredible, let alone the level of polish and ideas that clearly got added in!

I just played through this in VR and beat it for the first time. I HIGHLY recommend playing this in VR to anyone who has that option, it was a trippy, wild experience. Especially the final section (even if I have kenophobia which means it scared the hell out of me). My brain still feels all tingly.

Congratulations to the author on (almost) completing the game! I've been watching this channel for about a year and was really looking forward to that game. I'll be one of the first to buy it. :)
It's an awesome concept, and there's certainty no shortage of things to do in the game... but I have to ask: what is the game about? Is it just a mashup of loosely-connected mini-games in a hyperbolic world? Is there a story? There certainly wasn't a premise conveyed in the trailer.
I want to love this game, but I don't even know what it's about!
It is both. It has an overarching story and loosely connected minigames.
Why do people climb Mt Everest? Why do people read books? Why do people do psychedelics? If you don't value the experience of exploring hyperbolic space, that's completely fine as it's your own personal preference. For me, the premise alone is worth it.
@@CodeParade Reminds me of Jak and Daxter; in abstract, that concept somewhat loosely applies to it as well (perhaps aside from J&D having a core collect-a-thon and/or combat gameplay loop). I love games with variety.
Id prefer if there was no story, just exploring hyperbolic space is enough.

Oh wow. When I first started watching the devlogs I thought it would just be a short small indie game but look at all these minigames and quests! Seems like it would be a great game. Even if the date was moved It seems as if it would be worth it!
