  • Swift mentors help our new drivers train on the road before they go out solo. They love sharing their experience and wisdom with new CDL holders, but also make extra money doing it. They're one of the reasons that in 2020, Swift student drivers logged 100 million miles with a crash rating that ranks in the top 10% of the Industry.

As a mentor I get students who already been through 3 or 4 bad mentors. Truth be told the mentor pay is still too low to incentivize the good mentors to keep doing it. Swift should have an action plan to make all 2 year drivers into mentors and throw as much money at them to convince them to do it

What about a mentor that does local work? What's the incentive for a driver that does intermodal or some other fleet? What benefits are for those that steps up?

    Mentors are 'trainers'.

I have to be honest, this is my third time being at Swift Transportation, my other times I allowed the Swift Transportation talkers ( haters) to feed my mind and never took the time myself to learn the system but this time around I have noticed a big change in the atmosphere at Swift Transportation and it has a much better feeling to it. Before I would constantly see people hanging out and cutting up but now when you are at the Terminal it has a much better professionalism to it and also I feel like when I call after hours dispatch or any other support team I feel there are people who are willing to help but I didn't feel that way before, I love working for Swift Transportation now and want to Mentor after having 8 years of driving experience and want to make sure the students get a good understanding of not just driving but using macros, using onroad when they have issues etc because back in 2014 when I went with a mentor and got off the truck I think this was frustrating the most for me because I didn't get much of hands on doing these myself so it took me forever trying to find the information in my books but now I know the students can always call their dispatcher and they will either know how to help or can point you in right direction. I'm out of Lancaster Terminal and Nakosha is my dispatcher and she is wonderful in helping me out and is also gracious when she needs to help me correct something I am doing wrong and I couldn't ask for a better person than her.

It's never about the money, but however, they should be given something making the dangerous job worth the while

9 month!!! Of minimum experience!!! You have got to be kidding me. As usual a mega carrier who has no idea or methodology of putting experienced drivers with students that need an experienced mentor. All driver mentors needs to have a minimum of two years of experience. But as usual mega carriers are "hiring mills* that just pushes drivers out the door i to an 80,000 pound machine. Please, save the *pep rally talk"
